CoinCode: infos on coin/blockchain code, tools, and tech.
CoinCode in my mind is a specialized place in that I would like to discuss all things coin/blockchain that pertain to code, tools/software, and technology. This is a partly product of me having to dig through posts to find the ones with code blocks in /bitcoin, but also to help perpetuate the open and free ideals that the blockchain/bitcoin code were born from.

I’m new to buying Bitcoin and I seem to have misplaced exactly which iOS wallet app I transferred my deposit to. I took some screen shots of the wallet for my records but I can’t remember what app is was. Anyone mind helping me out?
I think I am losing my mind! I lost my bitcoin wallet.
Firstly, you shouldn’t lose a bitcoin wallet because of how precious it could be. You can also secure your bitcoin wallet by enabling the two-factor authentication. This is gonna protect your wallet for you with a private password you will generate yourself. So in case there’s external source tryna get in or in a case of hack, you get alerted immediately. Also, try and use the licensed and regulated exchange such as coinbase, binance, bitrex and the likes. These are all the tips I got in my experience. Lastly, I never believed in bitcoin retrieval cos I felt and was made to understand it’s not possible. But sometimes last year I fell for a binary option scam which promised a higher return and I lost close to $75,000. I read an article on here as regards a recovery expert and genius so I reached out and to my surprise I got all bitcoins recovered within 12 hours. I don’t know if I’m allowed to share the links on here but you can message me privately if you require such help. Don’t fall for wannabes on here.
"No changes will be made to the Bitcoin.com Wallet with respect to the network upgrade" Bitcoin.com support. Seems like the wallet will not split your coins anymore ? Is this a change of mind ?
I wasn't able to find the announcement that Roger Ver did 2 weeks ago but I remember that Bitcoin.com announced they would run ABC and BU nodes during the fork, and taint all transactions with an OP_DSV opcode to allow splitting in the case of a chain split. In my memory this included the bitcoin.com wallet outgoing transactions. But it appears this is no longer the case with their support now saying:
No changes will be made to the Bitcoin.com Wallet with respect to the network upgrade
Obviously this news should be confirmed by a bitcoin.com staff member or Roger Ver himself before being considered as fact. However all other services will still use the tainting strategy previously announced:
After the network upgrade, Bitcoin.com Faucet, Cash Games, and Mining Pool services will send BCH originating from an output using OPCHECKDATASIG
If I understand this correctly this means that unless you use the faucet, games or mining pool, just using the bitcoin.com wallet in the case of a chain split will have a random behaviour: if you have untainted coins, transactions will be replayed on both chains, but if you have DSV tainted coins, they will only be sent on the ABC chain. Am I right about this ? What are your thoughts ?
How many of us are really ready (or willing) to be our own bank?
I know this ad came out like last month or something, but yeah I just saw it recently. Talking about the "Be Your Own Bank" ad campaigns on Hong Kong public transport. I think the message is cool, even if it takes a while to understand it. And I think it's great and all especially for some of us living in these societies where our freedoms are chipped away at. But let's say I'm just a regular guy with a regular very old-fashioned family. I want to start supporting their future, and I do want in on Bitcoin in a big big way... but it seems like I have to go extreme. To be my own bank, I should get Bitcoin from P2P people. To use Bitcoin I should use my own wallet and do offline tx and come on to broadcast (or something like this). I shouldn't trust exchanges. Banks. Companies. But how on earth am I supposed to use Bitcoin and be my own bank easily? I know I could, but then how do I convince my partner? And my family? How do I do this without sounding like a wacko at dinner? The ads don't tell us how:/

Can I get some thoughts on Coinbase? I’m looking to buy some bitcoin with a few hundred dollars of my savings and trying to decide what bitcoin wallet to use. I don’t mind paying a small fee as long as I can conveniently buy, hold and later sell when I wanted. I’d really appreciate some good input.
Square on Bitcoin Core: "Keep in mind, transfers to the blockchain take time to process, and it may be hours before you see a transfer in your external wallet."
Shower Thought: Dark Wallet would be funded, and out by now if it had a more suitable name, and marketing. Something like "Peace of Mind Wallet" or "Bitcoin Privacy Wallet" project. I think the political nature and tone of the project turned people away.

Are the non-green options on https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ OK to use? I want to send my Bitcoins to a new wallet but don't mind if it takes 3-4 hours.
https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ currently says that if i were to pay 21-30 Satoshis per byte then it would take an estimated 240 minutes. How accurate does this information tend to be? If I do this, are my coins likely to be stuck for a few days and fail or will it actually only take a few hours and pretty much certainly be done by then? Also, does the estimated time relate to the first confirmation only and will each confirmation after that take equally as long or once there is one confirmation will the rest follow at a "normal" rate independent of fee paid? I've had Bitcoin for a year or so now but I've never sent any before.
[Winner’s Thread #57] Wow!! I never thought it would be me!!!
What a thrill this is!!! I honestly was stunned (and a little overwhelmed!) when I realized I’d been picked this month. I’m relatively ancient for a redditor, thoroughly middle aged - and a little bit of a technological luddite. Setting up accounts and sorting through all of the business end of this has been a learning experience. I don’t know how many hours I spent on that, but it was a lot!! Luckily, with a little bit of handholding from u/lilfruini I feel like I’m in pretty good shape (hope your physics went well!!). I have learned SO MUCH, and if nothing else, I’m grateful for that - I honestly had only the dimmest understanding of bitcoin and now I’ve got a bitcoin wallet! What?!?! A bit about me… Middle aged like I said before. I’m a speech therapist, a plant lover (as has been noted already!), and I have a very rare neurodegenerative disease called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia. It’s a progressive disease, and although nobody would wish for something like that, if you’re going to have a neurodegenerative disease, I pretty much have the very best one. Honestly, I am pretty lucky. I’m in a profession that I love, a place that I love - all of my needs for shelter, food, safety, companionship are met… I know that I’m doing better already than so many, and I have so much to be grateful for in my life. As to what I plan to do with donations… I had a lot of time yesterday to think about it!!! First - I need some things for my students - I need a voice amplifier, and some new materials that I can use both in person and for distance learning. If I can find one cheap, I’d also really love to have a second monitor to make teletherapy easier to manage. I’ve already spent so much of my own money on teachers pay teachers and other sites, but there are many more materials and supplies that would help make this challenging school year a little better and easier. Second - I have my eye on a couple plants - a rubber tree tineke and a manjula pothos… neither of them are very expensive or rare, I just haven’t felt like I had the leeway in my wallet to treat myself to those recently. And last, but certainly not least. This week just happens to be Spastic Paraplegia Awareness Week! The Spastic Paraplegia Foundation (SPF) is the national organization dedicated to advancing research and finding cures for two groups of closely related, progressive neurological disorders (Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia and Primary Lateral Sclerosis). I have been participating in all of the studies available to me - (knowledge is power!) and although I don’t have a lot of money to donate towards research, I certainly don’t mind being a guinea pig in the hopes that someday a treatment or a cure might be found. There are clinical trials going on in Australia right now and they’re working on funding to bring trials to the US as well. If any of you are so inclined and want to learn more you can check out sp-foundation.org. Thank you to all - and especially again to u/lilfruini who was an enormous help to me. update This has been a crazy 24-ish hours!! I'm not gonna lie, seeing all the notifications about money coming into my accounts has been exciting, but what's been even more meaningful to me are all the kind words, congratulations, and well wishes from all over the world. Pandemic, and protests, and fires, and everything else going on in the US this summer... It's worn me down... I've been feeling so very tired deep into my bones. All y'all have reminded me that it's not always this way - hope for humanity restored!! :) My heart feels full and warm and I sincerely wish that everyone could experience this. It's amazing and even after the money is gone I will remember this feeling. I'm not a millionaire! ;) I haven't done the exact math, but I'm a thousandaire for sure. I hope all of you who have donated know that I genuinely appreciate it and I will be certain to put this money to good use. I've tried to keep up with thanking everyone - if I missed you it wasn't intentional (except for that one guy - he was a jerk!!) Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving me this amazing gift.
