I'm trading for 11 months with pretty good success.
I never traded metals and forex before, just stocks. Today when gold started to consolidate at the last hour, I decided to scalp short it with a large amount, so I opened 100 lots. I haven't realised, in forex 100 (lots) doesn't mean "100 pcs", because I used to stocks and I went full retard without knowledge.
Seconds later, I realised it means 10 million dollars (1 lot = 100.000, and I had 500x leverage).
It moved up a bit and immediately I was down £4000. I scared as fuck and rather than closing the position quickly I hoped maybe I could close break even.
The market closed, and I waited for the Asian session. The gold popped like never before, and I lost all my life savings (£55000) in less than two hours. (including the 1-hour break between sessions).
If I count that I lost all my earnings as well, I lost around £85000.

IC Markets closed my position partially in every 1-2 minutes until I shut it myself at £35.

Many of you asked the same questions, I answer it here:
- I live in Europe, and we usually trade CFD's, not futures.
- Currency in GBP.
- As you can see, this account made on IC Markets. They not just allowing you a 500x leverage, it's the default.
- You can ask me why I went against the market. Because gold is way oversold? Because I expected institutions would sell their shares before gold is hitting £2000, leaving retails hanging there. Also, as I said, I wanted to scalp, not riding the gold all the way down. If I had a loss of £100, I would close the position immediately. But when I saw the £4000, my heart is stopped, and my brain just freezes.
- I went for a revenge trade with my last £2k, and I don't have to say what happened. I uninstalled the app, and I give up trading for a while.
- Again, in the past months, I was cautious, I lost a significant sum in March, but I managed to recover. Made consistent gains, always with SL. This is just an example of how easy is to fuck up everything you did.
- I didn't come here for some shiny digital medals. I can't tell about my losses to anyone who I know in real life. I would make a fool of myself.
- Anyone who attacking me that it is a scam. Well, think what you want. I feel terrible and the last thing is to answer all the messages saying "You fucking karma whore". I don't give a shit about karma.

This weekend, Sunday Dec 4 is the "Italian Referendum", a much hyped vote being put to the Italian populace concerning a large amount of varied and confusing proposed changes to the laws and constitution of Italy. In the "news", this referendum has been pounded with as much drama as is needed to get clicks. Here at /Forex, we recognize that these drama generating tactics will obscure what is likely the reality, so we wanted to give you a heads up on what to expect.
The short version is that the current Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his center-left Democratic Party are pushing a bill to amend the Italian Constitution to allow for more centralization of Government. The Italian Gov't is very decentralized, and has been so since WWII, a response to the conglomeration of power that Il Duce Mussolini sought for a strong, centralized, Fascist government. Beyond this, it gets confusing, muddy. Basically, there is a push to make the power shift from the provinces to the center in Rome. Mr Renzi has stated that these reforms are necessary for the well being of Italy, and that he will resign if they are not passed. If you want your eyes to glaze over read the wiki page.

• A "no" vote brings Renzi's alleged resignation. If he resigns, there is likely some sort of temporary government which may compromise on some issues. There is fear that this paves the way for a "right wing" (see discussion below), nationalist, Eurosceptic party called the "5 star Movement" (M5S) to come in to power. They have leaders who are vociferously anti-bank, also anti-EU and (important for us) anti-EUR (many, including Beppe, have advocated for a return to the Lira).
  
• A "yes" vote paves the way for M5S to run on a strongly Pro-Italy, Anti-EU platform in the next general election and move to a larger representation in power; this gives them the advantage of having an already reformed constitution that has centralized power.
  

However, leaving the EU is not as easy for the Italians as the media has made it out to be.
There is a great analysis here at Business Insider as to why; I'll quote the key parts:

Morgan Stanley staff members Daniele Antonucci and Phanikiran Naraparaju point to Article 75 of Italy's written constitution, which enshrines the fact that Italy cannot hold a referendum on anything related to international treaties: "A general referendum may be held to repeal, in whole or in part, a law or a measure having the force of law, when so requested by five hundred thousand voters or five Regional Councils. No referendum may be held on a law regulating taxes, the budget, amnesty or pardon, or a law ratifying an international treaty." Membership of both the European Union and the euro, are by definition international in nature, and as a result, for Italy to give its people a say on leaving either, the constitution would have to be changed. Obviously, that is no easy task and would require a strongly eurosceptic government with a serious will to leave the EU.

The bold is the key part. BI's analysis:

This is the chain of events Naraparaju and Antonucci think needs to happen for Italy to drop out of the EU (emphasis ours): "So, the bar for leaving is high and the chain of events much longer than, say, for the UK to leave the EU. In Italy, a Eurosceptic party would have to win an election with an absolute majority and then set in motion the exit process after having changed the constitution with a two-thirds majority in both chambers or 'just' an absolute majority followed by a referendum. As Eurozone membership is indissolubly linked to EU membership, leaving the EU would also automatically mean leaving the EMU."

The TL;DR: It's simple:

• 1) Italy is not leaving the EU this Sunday
• 2) Close out your trades this Friday, or get small positions/low leverage if you just have to be in.
• 3) Expect volatility on Monday
• 4) The mods here at /Forex give our usual speech in light of big events: don't fucking gamble with your accounts; this is not a casino. For those of you trying to duplicate the success luck you may have had with both the Brexit vote and the US election, remember that this vote comes on a Sunday... so you won't be able to modify your position for several hours after the fact, and you will be doing so in the Asian market, not the most liquid of markets.

2) Integration with ONEZERO
We ordered the placement on servers of Equinix - LD4. This data center hosts the largest European banks and brokers. Given that B2BX will have a cross-connect with liquidity providers, the speed of obtaining prices from providers and the speed of execution of orders will be as high as possible! New working conditions with OneZero will reduce the cost of services for our customers and increase our attractiveness for new customers. Recall that in B2BX will be able to nominate margin accounts in any currency, including cryptocurrencies.
3) CRYPTOCURRENCY PAYMENT GATEWAY
There is also the possibility of accepting a B2B coin with zero commission. We have started integration with 10 merchants and have begun to develop a site for B2B coin, which will accumulate information about all crypto-brokers, exchanges and other customers that will start to accept the B2B coin for payment. Can US Indexes trade during asian session? On this platform they trade in the european and in the us session. That is good. But some brokers(like icmarkets) allow for trading of these us indexes to be done in the asian session too. (this making it very similar to regular forex market hours, non stop, 24/5).
Can the same thing be done about Nikkei? Nikkei is only traded in the asian session on this platform. On other platforms(like icmarkets) they have it available both in the eu session and the us session.
The same thing could be asked about Hang Seng. (On icmarkets, they let it trade until EU session close, which is also generous).
And similar for the Aus200 or ASX200 index. (on that already specified broker, it lets you trade it on eu and us session (though with a bigger spread)). Also, it would be good to know the liquidity providers you use for trading.
To some traders, the feature of 24/7 for some indexes like us indexes and nikkei index (and maybe aus index) would be great!

What is volatility?
Volatility is the degree of variation in price of a given asset on a defined timeframe. When price moves quickly, market volatility increases. When price consolidates, market volatility decreases (simple definition). It is like the speedometer in our cars.
I usually add an Average True Range (ATR) on my charts to gauge approximately market volatility or market nervousness. However, it is not necessary, when you look at a chart you are able to tell if price is spiking, trending or consolidating.
Volatility is part of any strategy. It gives an expectancy toward future price action. In general, when market volatility is low, we expect significant support and resistance levels to hold price in a range. And when market volatility is high, we expect price to break these levels.
Volatility patterns
Fortunately, in the Forex market, daily volatility is predictable. We tend to see volatility peaks around major markets openings, which are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and the Japanese Exchange. At the late hours of these markets, volatility tends to decrease.
These fundamental patterns are the most exploitable patterns in the Forex market. Yes, at least more exploitable than deceitful technical signals you are looking for. And they happen almost every day. However, there are exceptions. For example, we do not expect volatility peak to happen when countries of these big markets are on bank holiday.
EURUSD hourly volatility
The chart above shows the 4-weeks hourly volatility for the EUUSD pair. It is the average in pip of the difference between the highest and the lowest price of each hour of the day, over four weeks. Each bar represents the average in hourly range over four weeks.
There are two major peaks corresponding to the LSE and the NYSE openings.
Since the EUUSD is the most traded pair, we consider its volatility as "market volatility". In fact, the hourly volatility chart of the other pairs gives approximately the same pattern.
USDCAD hourly volatility
These charts were taken in May 2016. Take a look at Mataf.net’s volatility tool and type four (for four weeks) in the entry box. You will see approximately this same pattern in hourly volatility, with the two major peaks (UK and US opens) and decreasing volatility starting from the mid-US session. (Currently the pattern is disturbed by the brexit monster volatility, it will become clear again within few weeks)
We also have decreased volatility during the Asian session when there is no major news release coming from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) or the Bank Of Japan (BOJ).
Asian sessions
These charts tell us market volatility is predictable. This leads us to define two principles:
First Principle: Around major markets openings (active time), market volatility tends to surge. We expect to see range breakouts, spikes or rallies. It is the best time to trade breakouts i.e., buying new highs and selling new lows.
Second Principle: During the late hours of major markets sessions and when major markets are closed (quiet time), market volatility tends to decrease considerably. We expect to see trading range or congestion in price action. It is the best time to range-trade i.e., buying the lows and selling the highs.
principles
Any trading strategy or system has to adapt to these variations in volatility to perform over time. If you are struggling with a particular strategy, maybe you are ignoring these changes in volatility.
How volatility patterns can help in improving your trading?
One cannot apply a strategy any time and expect to be profitable. When we simulate an automated and intraday trading system over three months without time filtering, we will notice the system is only profitable at certain hours of the day. This simply reflects intraday volatility variations.
You have to determine if your trading strategy is a trend following method or a range trading one.
If your strategy is a trend following approach, you will want to only trade around major markets openings to maximize profits. Otherwise, you will tend to give back profits as price slows down in the mid-session and market volatility decrease.
If your strategy is a range trading or reversal approach, you will want to only trade during quiet market time and avoid trading around market openings or around news releases.
Less trades maximize profits. Most of my trading sessions last less than one hour.

I've been reading a little about forex in the past couple weeks, and as a software engineer, I find it appealing that it can be conducted almost entirely via technical analysis (i.e. it's work a computer can do, unlike fundamentals). A lot of folks on here and around the web have talked about their robo-trading, so I figured one of the best ways for me to learn more would be to write an app and experiment with a test account.
Before that, though, I spent ten minutes writing a simulation to test out some of my assumptions, and see if the math checks out. I'm sure most of this will be cleared up with practical experience, but I thought I'd quickly ask for a second opinion before spending days (and hundreds/thousands of lines of code) on the problem.
My plan, tentatively, is to do some automated range trading during Asian hours. Looking at a couple USD/EUR charts to get a feel for how quickly things move, I plugged these values into my "simulation."

• Starting capital: $10,000
• Leverage: 10:1
• Target profit ratio: 2-to-1 (e.g. target 10 pips up or 5 pips down... let winners ride, cut losses)
• Simultaneous positions: 3
• Expected trade duration: 90-120 minutes
• Trading window: 8 hours

With three concurrent positions open and each of them lasting up to two hours, that means the sim is doing ~12 trades per 8-hour day. Targeting a 2:1 profit ratio, that means only 33% of the trades need to be correct in order to break even. If I set it to 35% it makes a tidy profit, and if I crank it up to 50% things start to get a little obscene.
This is all math, but I'm better with an IDE than I am with a calculator. And of course, none of this gets into how to determine where the ranges are -- that's a problem I'll try to solve while writing the actual app.
Before I start writing code... what in there looks totally out of whack? What am I not taking into account? I don't consider the numbers coming out of this shitty little mini-program worthwhile, but it was a fun little experiment, and I found myself curious whether any of it was realistic, or if it needed to be significantly reconfigured. Thanks for any advice.

My first one when i was 18 got me to know my area pretty good. 7 resturants later i jus look at a ticket and go, no need for gps. its seccond nature by now. The worst job i had was for a company that let you use their fleet of cars and they paid for gas but thought that ment it was okay to pay you 20 dollars for a 10 hour shift plus your tips.. I made it a year and a half in that one before leaving to enjoy a summer with my savings. My current job has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least. A sushi place opened up in 2014 ( i live in long island ny ) and i became buddy buddy with the owner who is a pretty cool dude. I work from 11-9 with a 1 hour break from 3-4 because all sushi resturants like to close for a hour (chefs break)
i always drove stick so it keeps the job pretty physical, But my boss is so chill that i dont even have to be there in between any deliverys. I live less then 5 minutes from the store so im pretty much a on call driver. When i get a text saying the letter D it means a delivery just came in, if i get a text R that means it just got ready and i need to step on it to dock at the store but im usually there before that, well why you wonder? because to my benefit and my misfortune, i am the only driver. My boss is too cheap to hire more then one driver, this means i am responsible for every single order that comes in throughout the day near or far. we take around a 4.5 mile radius but because i know my hood like the back of my hand i cut threw all the back streets, Avoid lights and get this shit done. i work in a very weathy neighborhood and usually deliver to mansions in the bay area and lots of residential houses, businesses, docters and the like but if i get into a accident, am feeling under the weather or god forbid broke a leg or some shit im fucked. My boss has tried other ppl and they cant pull it off the way i do. I worked for 2 years straight eventually worked some 7 day weeks. I get paid $50 a day house pay and thats suppose to cover my gas and stuff.
Sushi tips are for the most part better then pizza tips. In the past week i got 40 from 1 guy on new years and multiple 20 dollar tips, And 70 bux for delivering to a private jet company at JFK Airport, which was like 9 miles away and i had to sacrifice my break so they could get it done. The worst part about this line of work is you miss out on Life, you litterally live behind the wheel. Im my bosses right hand man and as much as i dont want to let him down, Im not struggling for money or anything. I trade the forex market on the side and invest in crypto currencies and during those 2 years i had a awsome clientel for 420, so i helped out alot of people. It got to the point where i was making more then double what i would make in a day from the sushi alone. One day in october 2016 i overslept and woke up to a bunch of pissed texts from my boss and decided to Quit. My hustle grew and i got to the point where i was banking like 500-1000 profit from that then caught a case when i jus made the wrong turn at the wrong time dec 29 2016. with something not stashed and a cop pulled me over for having a ipad mounted on my dash. I was riding w 2 other people and all 3 of us got arrested. my car is jus mad suspect to begin with, scion coupe, tinted windows, 18 inch rims, loud subs. Im never the type to smoke in my car ever and everything stays vaccume sealed always. 3 Grand to lawyer fees and a few months of draged out court dates but steered clear of probation or jailtime. So i consider myself lucky i guess? After laying low for a few months i burned threw alot of my savings. Although i got into a cool hobby racing drones and building them from scratch while i was on that year off from delivering. I discovered a new passion but its by no means a cheap hobby with plenty of expensive gear and components. In october 2017 i stop by the sushi place for the first time in a year and sit down just to eat, chat and catch up and see how the business was because i left on a bad note, even though i was having the time of my life. He said you ready to start driving again and as we were eating, i seen the chinese guy, my replacement, running in and out of the store and it brought back all the memorys of the job. So i said "yea part time" He only gave me one day a week so i was like whatever because what off the boat asian delivery guy wants to work less then 6 days a week. So i took him up on the offer and the next week the guy quit after working 9 months to take care of his kid or some shit. He was obviously looking for a ticket out and i was it. So now i went from working 1 day back to 5 and its like i never left now. He is forced to close the resturant 1 day a week this winter which he has never done before to save on bills and payroll because the store hasnt been doing as good, probably because his other drivers throughout the year sucked balls and couldnt handle the pressure. Now im stuck in the same trap as a year ago. I had a taste of my dream career but it got snatched from me because im stuck in this loop again. Im not a big pothead but i know alot of them. I havent fliped anything since i got off with a slap on the wrist but i dont know if im going to fall back into that too. I dont really care about the money, its the free time i miss and 50 hours a week in the winter is really sending waves of thoughts threw my head. Snowstorms are just gonna get worse. The main point of my thread is after reading all this, If you are a delivery driver would you think i have it easy as a driver with this one? Would u switch in a heart beat or stay with yours? I make 140-160 a day consistantly but at the expense of no life. Shifting all day 10 hours is taxing and sitting all day in my coupe just pools the fat. I was a avid gym goer now i jus get exhuasted after a days work. It was fun when i was younger but im 26 now and kinda want to get into something that doesnt involve wasting away in traffic all the time. My boss looked out for me when i met him in 2014 and was down and out but 3 years later im kinda ready for the next chapter of my life. I have a gf of 3 years that i met when i first got the job way back, i had 2017 to myself but got sticked with a full schedual now. 2-3 days a week i can handle but if he finds another asian dude they are gonna wanna work like 6-7 days a week and ill be shut out. Any advice or thoughts? Whats the most amount of hours you guys work and how do you not let it break you. i get 7 to 10 dollar tips all around locally.
Sushi orders are cold so time doesnt matter too much in that respect but if its sent with hot food it gets crazy because as the only driver sent with 3-4 deliveries at a time i get to pick the late one and the hood deliverys to far rockaway suck balls. They take 15 minutes to 20 to drive to and almost never get over a 5 dollar tip. Lucky to get 3 out there.. This is just my 2 cents rant from a guy whos not a newbie to this industry by any means. In between deliverys i get free time but not much sometimes its almost not worth it to leave the store but i do have the option.i feel like a on call EMT but for sushi. I kinda dont know where 2018 will take me. if you read all this, thankyou just one drivers story to another man! I
