As previously mentioned, the next two updates with be at the conclusions of the 2030 and 2034 World Cups bringing everyone to just after their 32nd birthday and the mid-end of their prime.

The Great Player Project Part 4: January 1, 2023 / 2022 World Cup

This is definitely the most exciting update yet, at twenty years old we have players firmly establishing themselves as world class and winning awards. And without spoiling too much a couple played a small part in the World Cup.
The next update will be a couple years at least, likely the end of the 2025 season. From there I am thinking updates will be World Cup to World Cup. As always feedback/suggestions are welcome.

The Great Player Project Part 3: May 31, 2021

Three seasons in and almost everyone has now established themselves as a rotation option at least (though I do fear for a few players' futures), next update will be very soon and an exciting one covering the 2022 World Cup. I am thinking of simulating 4 years after that update to bring us to the 2030 WC, thoughts? Opinions? Feel free to let me know.
Also if you happen to own FM19 you can get the databases I'm using here and here and I have uploaded the save file here should you want to poke around.

NRL 2019 Predictions: "Experts" vs /r/NRL

This post serves two purposes:
  1. Record the predictions for NRL 2019 from Foxsports, NRL.com and gambling agencies for review at the end of the season.
  2. Allow /NRL "experts" to test themselves against people who are clearly biased, out of touch and have low football IQs.
If you want to get involved, post your predictions here. If you leave your username we can publicly shame you for your ineptitude at the end of the season. If not, you'll be just another fan yelling at clouds - nothing wrong with that.
I'll add in any other major news outlet predictions - post the ones you see below. Especially keen to get the Courier / Telegraph and Nein tips. Buzz vs Gus vs Paul the Octopus will be interesting.
Matlcokjnr has a similar setup - log your predictions with his survey here.

CYPES instructions

Saw several questions related to CYPES, as the web site is in French. Trying to give some clarifications. Please note that I'm French, so I may not use the appropriate words and I don't know the menus in the UK version of PES.

  1. Where are the options files ?
https://www.custom-your-pes.com/cypes-2-0-ps4-pc/
or
‘Nos matchs’ -> ‘PES 2020 (PS4 & PC) -> CYPES 2.0 (PS4 & PC)
from the CYPES web site.
CYPES 2.0 merges CYPES 1.0 & Bundesliga with one caveat ‘see the notes.
2) What is the content ?
a) Competition names & logos
Kits :
Premier League (UK), Liga (SP) and Bundesliga (GE) in High Res and Low Res
- SkyBet (UK), Liga SmartBank (SP), Serie B BKT (GE) in small res
- Team names, logos, manager names, stadium names, rival club for all the aforementioned + Ligue 1(FR), Ligue 2 (FR), Eredivisie (NL), Serie A (IT), Liga NOS (PO), Raiffeissen Super League (CH), Süper Lig (Turkey), Ladbrokes Premiership (Scottish), Russian championship, Belgian championship, Danish championship and ‘other Europe’ teams
- Adds 4 teams to “Other Europe” : Belgrad Red Star, Salzburg Red Bull, Malmö FF, APOEL Nicosie.
3) What is missing ?
In PESUniverse and PESWorld, you also have sponsors and missing managers pictures.
Note that you can add them manually for your preferred teams if you want.
4) What are the different versions ?
As you have a storage limitation on PS4, you just can’t patch all team with high res (L) kits, so they provide 4 versions hoping to please everyone.
- Version A : only those teams have High Res kits. Chelsea – Liverpool – Manchester City – Tottenham – Atlético Madrid – Real Madrid – Valence – Séville - Mexico - Uruguay
- Version B : all kits in lower (S) resolution
- Version C : same as A but with S kits for GK
- Version D : all Premier League, Liga and Bundesliga in high res, the rest in small res.
Important notes :
- S doesn’t mean low quality. Most of the time, S is sufficient on console.
- I think CYPES 2.0 version D can be installed on PS4. I made my ‘own’ mix that was 365 Mo and CYPES D is 367 Mo…. The storage limitation of D version for PS4 will only happen in future version I suppose.
- CYPES 2.0 version A doesn’t have the Bundesliga logo for the competition (a mistake…). So you can take the competition folder from version D (0. Logos Compétitions). Unless this has been fixed.
- Like with PESUniverse and the likes, you’ll need to modify the Bundesliga competition to transfer the corrects teams in it : change competition team number to 18 and move teams (Shalke, Bayern, …) into it.
Hope this helps.

[META] Bookmakers

Hi all,
As mentioned before, we will be doing an update of our sidebar and adding more information regarding betting on soccer. We often get questions regarding which bookies to use. For that, we are creating this thread and will be creating a list with some of the most popular bookies. Are they always the best bookies? Not always, but they are usually more beginner-friendly, which is what we are looking for. This thread will be added on the sidebar once we update it.
What do we want from you guys? Share your experience and reviews! The best way to get to know a bookie is to hear from other users. Just comment what bookie you use and what you think of them.
Bet365
Bet365 is one of the biggest bookies in the gambling industry. Odds are available in three formats: Decimal (European), Fraction (UK) and American (US). They have a huge coverage of the major football leagues, as well as several American sports. You are also possible to cash out a parlay/accumulator, which is not always possible at other bookies. Thread with users discussing Bet365
Betfair
Betfair is a bookie from the United Kingdom and offers the possibility of betting on 22 different sports. They usually offer cashing out paylays/accumulators as well. The bookie is not available in all countries. If you are into match/lay betting, this may be a good choice.
Unibet
One of the most known bookies in Europe, as it is available in many countries. For the most popular games, the markets can be pretty large. They also offer betting on some more unknown leagues and even live betting on some of them. However, cashing out parlays/accumulators is not possible. Cashing out singles is only possible on live bets and if the market is still open.
PaddyPower
The biggest and most successful bookmaker in Ireland and pretty popular in the United Kingdom. If you like innovative and silly bets, this may be a solid choice. They put a lot of effort in customer service and money-back specials, giving the customers a better experience.
Ladbrokes
The largest bookmaker in the United Kingdom. Ladbrokes offers many special bets and are pretty known to getting big punters. They have several betting facilities at FA Premiership grounds, meaning they are pretty solid for betting on the Premier League.
Pinnacle

21:46

ROWETT EXPECTS BUTLAND TO STAY

Stoke boss Gary Rowett is confident Jack Butland will stay and believes he can still fulfil his England ambitions at the club.
The Potters are yet to receive a serious offer for the 25-year-old after relegation from the Premier League last season.
Rowett said: "I expect him to stay, I hope he stays. I'm also pragmatic enough to know it's football and anything can happen in the last few days of the window.
"I imagine he would be the type of player who some teams would covet. I'm a realist but I hope he's still here.
"I can only react and answer what's in front of me. The answer is we haven't had an offer which the club feel is financially viable - or I don't think any strong offer yet.
"Jack has never made any real moves to want to leave and he's contracted to us and we're not even a week away from the first game."
21:45

VRSALJKO TO INTER, ARIAS TO ATLETI

Crouch is understood to be interesting Burnley over a summer departure from the bet365 Stadium before the transfer deadline on August 9.
"Crouchy is certainly not one of those players we want to lose," Rowett told SSN at the EFL launch.
"He is the type of guy you want around the group. He has obviously played in the Championship before so he knows what it is about.
"He is a Premier League quality striker and he is such a different option to have. We all know of his aerial ability."
20:35

MACKINNON EAGER TO SEE HOW NEW BOYS FARE

Hamilton skipper Darian MacKinnon has warned the club's new players that they will need to learn fast in Scotland's top flight.
Six of Accies' nine summer signings will be playing in the Ladbrokes Premiership for the first time and Hamilton have not had the best of preparations for Saturday's season opener against Hearts.
MacKinnon said: "We have lost a few players and brought the new ones in so it will be interesting to see how they cope in the Premiership.
"They are all good players having seen them in games and training but it will be interesting to see if they can do it in the Premiership on a consistent basis because they have been playing kids' football.
"They will see when Hearts come to town on Saturday that you have not got time for six or seven touches, it's a touch and then bang. So we will soon see."
20:04

RODGERS: NO CHANGE TO RECRUITMENT POLICY

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers insists nothing has changed in the recruitment process at Parkhead.
At the media conference ahead of his side's Champions League clash in Rosenborg, Rodgers said, with regards to recruitment: "It is exactly the same as when I walked in.
"We will look to find players that fit the profile of the club and very importantly, the profile of how we play and once we have found the player, it will be over to the club to try to do a deal to bring the player in.
"So it is as simple as that. There is no confusion, there is no change."

"It has been a great day which I had been looking forward to," Alisson told Liverpool's official website.

NEWCASTLE'S LETTER TO FANS

Newcastle made a net profit of £21m this window and after seeing supporters blast their activity again, the club have posted a public letter to fans, urging everyone to "pull in the same direction."
Here is that letter - posted on the club's official website and signed by managing director Lee Charnley, boss Rafa Benitez and captain Jamaal Lascelles - in full:
"Dear supporters, as the transfer window closes and attentions turn to the start of the season, we wanted to make this joint statement, on behalf of everyone at the club.
"Doing good business in a transfer window is about ending the window clearly stronger than when you started and we believe we have done this. The view we all share is that we have a better squad now than the one that finished tenth last season and all involved have worked tirelessly to make this happen.
"Collectively, we must extend praise to Steve Nickson and his recruitment team. Their operations are year-round, but they have worked day and night in recent months to support efforts to enhance the squad.
"We are all excited about the seven players who have joined us this summer. Their combined experience in the Premier League and at an international level – with three of them appearing at this summer’s World Cup for their respective countries – cannot fail to strengthen us.
"Martin Dubravka and Kenedy have already proven themselves to be fantastic players here and we are confident that Ki Sung-yeung, Fabian Schar, Yoshinori Muto, Salomon Rondon and Federico Fernandez will be excellent additions to the dressing room.
"Given our finishing position last season, we already had a team of players who were more than capable of performing well in the Premier League. They have shown heart, guts and determination and the inference that they are ‘Championship’ players and not good enough is unfair and untrue. The players all believe in themselves and in the quality of the squad, and we all believe in the players.
"Now, it’s about all of us pulling in the same direction, for the good of the club. This came through strongly in a recent positive call between our owner and senior members of the squad, who agreed that better dialogue going forward will benefit all parties and is in the best interests of the club.
"With the transfer window now closed, the focus should be on unity and getting behind the efforts on the pitch.
"We know our supporters are incredibly passionate and we know that passion will be channelled into supporting the players we have in black and white on Saturday, and every matchday thereafter home or away."

MORE IN AT STOKE?

Stoke signed Sam Clucas on Deadline Day but boss Gary Rowett has suggested there will be further arrivals before the loan window shuts for Sky Bet EFL clubs on August 31.
That extended window also allows for loans with an option to buy and Rowett, speaking to the club's official website, is hoping to make some shrewder moves with more time to scour the market.
"If you aren’t careful then you can end up rushing a deal or two and ending up with some players for the season that you may not have necessarily wanted," he said.
"It shows far greater common sense to wait and then make better decisions over the next week or two. The arrival of Sam certainly won’t signal the end of it from our point of view."

'HAZARD, WILLIAN EXIT IMPOSSIBLE'

Batshuayi might have departed but there is no chance of Chelsea losing Eden Hazard and Willian before the transfer window shuts in continental Europe, according to Maurizio Sarri.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's Premier League opener at Huddersfield, Sarri said: "Here the market is closed, so we cannot change important players now. It's impossible."
15:12

BATSHUAYI LEAVES BLUES

So it's another loan spell for Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi, a World Cup semi-finalist with Belgium.
The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, having found his opportunities at Stamford Bridge limited following the arrival of Olivier Giroud. He scored nine goals in 14 appearances for the Bundesliga side but his spell was cut short in April when he suffered ankle ligament damage.
Valencia said: "Valencia CF have reached this Friday an agreement with Chelsea FC for the transfer of Michy Batshuayi until the end of this season."
15:05

ZOUMA TO EVERTON

It's taken a while for this one to be confirmed but the paperwork was submitted in time and Everton have finally announced Kurt Zouma's arrival on loan for 2018/19.
Zouma joins Lucas Digne, Richarlison and Joao Virginia - plus Deadline Day signings Bernard, Yerry Mina and Andre Gomes - at Goodison Park.

JOSE: SQUAD IS THE SAME

Jose Mourinho says his Manchester United squad "is the same" as last season following a frustrating transfer window for the club.
"It is the same, the same squad as last season," Mourinho told Sky Sports. "We changed the goalkeepers with Lee [Grant] because Joel [Pereira] Is such a good young goalkeeper that he needs to play.
"We changed Daley Blind for a 19-year-old kid [Diego Dalot] that we believe has the potential to play right-back or left-back and we changed Michael Carrick for Fred so our squad is the same.
"He [Fred] is a midfield player, he's not a striker, not a central defender, he's a midfield player that technically is very good. In that sense, typically, the Brazilian player has a very rich luggage in technical terms and also in some static beauty movements of football. He's a player to really enjoy, if he adapts as soon as possible."

BRUCE UNDERSTANDS GREALISH SADNESS

Steve Bruce says keeping Jack Grealish at Aston Villa is great for himself, but he can understand the midfielder's disappointment at missing out on a move to Tottenham.
"It is great for myself," said Bruce. "I can understand the disappointment from Jack, in some ways, but he has been terrific and respectable towards the club.
"Let's be fair, Spurs are a huge club in England and in Europe but he has taken the decision from the owner and hopefully we can move forward.
"He [Grealish] will hopefully take us to where we want to get to and fulfil his ambitions with ourselves. I think what is vitally important to everybody is that the owner has put out a statement of intent."

Enhanced odds on all Premiership midweek games

The Premiership will be on break for exactly 10 days, which means that punters have a narrow window of opportunity to bet on this lucrative football league. All important bookmakers, but particularly those targeting the UK audience have diversified their offers and boosted the odds for these games. Ladbrokes runs three distinct promotions aimed at the games taking place this Wednesday, by boosting the odds on Drogba to Score First in the match between Chelsea and Everton. The same bookmaker is going to increase the odds on Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all to prevail against their rivals. The odds previously stood at 7/4 and have been boosted to 9/4, which represents a significant improvement. The same opportunities are available to those who think that Van Persie, Aguero and Messi will all score and this includes a match from the Spanish Copa del Rey. Betfair focuses exclusively on the Premiership and dedicates ample coverage on those games featuring the overwhelming favorites. Manchester United and Chelsea are expected to cross their opponents and the average odds are extremely low, so there is no value in backing the favorites. New customers who open a real money account will benefit from odds of 3/1 for each team to win, not to mention that they will collect a free bet bundle worth €100. These are just two of the available offers and those who already have a real money account have their own promotion to take advantage of. Man City, Southampton & WBA all to win will result in a profit of seven times the investment. Winner Sports has its own idea about how the odds should be boosted for these football events and covers even more games. It comes as no surprise that the match between Chelsea and Everton enjoys the attention it deserves at odds of 3/1, but players can also wager on enhanced multiples. Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Man City and Southampton all to win at 9/1 and Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd all to win to nil at 10/1 are two of the most popular options. Those who prefer to bet on the underdogs, can do the exact opposite and trust Burnley and Everton not to lose at odds of 12/1. Furthermore, those who wager on Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Brom all to win will increase their investment nine times, which is not an amount to frown upon.
