Another RPO fanfic idea kicking around (and what I have thus far).
As y'all know from previous mentions, I had an idea kicking around in my head for a bit of a follow-up to Live To Tell, and the followup was going to be a bit of "what the replies to Daed's story would have been in-universe after publishing it on the OASIS" kind of thing. So far, what I'm about to post is what I've manged to put out, but can't seem to find a direction to go (as it's meant to be the reply section of the story). And so far, I've only gotten segments with Aech, Parzival and I-r0k's replies done, and don't know what any of the others would say. At this point, not even sure if I will continue. But, since you guys helped out the last time, I figured maybe lightning can strike twice (non-BTTF joke, BTW. XD). Anyways, I don't have a title for it (I'm leaning towards "From The Peanut Gallery"), but this is just what I've kicked out this far. NOTE: The following replies and likes have been limited from the thousands who replied to the tale of Daedalus Tigerheart, who recounted his take on the events of the Battle of the Third Gate. The limited replies and likes are from familiar names from Daedalus' tale and from Parzival's account of the Egg Hunt. Post: Aech – Posted 52 Days Ago
Hey old timer. Enjoyed reading your view of the battle. You certainly captured the chaos of the whole thing from the ground. I completely get that. I never realized how much our fight in the mechs were more one-on-one than the massive ground battle that the other gunters had. And I didn't mean my response to you about the achievements to be a jab at you. You really did earn them, and I'm glad I sent you that message.
(Daedalus Tigerheart And Seven Others Liked This Post) Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart – Posted 52 Days Ago
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, a ground fight is different from the mech fight. But, as I've stated, I saw it more as a civic duty than something that required an achievement. But, I can't complain. You pretty much pulled a laser-guided “Call To Adventure” moment, for sure. XD

Hey, I hope you don't mind, I shared the story with Parzival, Art3mis and Shoto. Though we caught a lot of the references (Art3mis dug the Red Dwarf passphrase, BTW), but some of the others were confusing and we had to Google it due to the fact we're more masters of 1980s pop culture. WTH is Earth 2? I mean, is it a book series?
Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart – Posted 52 Days Ago
It's a very short-lived TV series that came from Amblin Entertainment and Universal Studios back in the mid-1990s. I happen to know about it because my Dad had it in his DVD collection when he met my Mom. So, as a result, I inherited a whole lot of VHSes, DVDs and Blu-Rays for my collection. My Dad loved a lot of short-lived series. Deadly Games, Nowhere Man, Dark Angel, Herman's Head, Terra Nova, Automan, Moonlight, Profit, Probe, Almost Human, The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr. VR.5, The Lone Gunmen... Jesus, I could go on and on with how many short-lived shows from the past my Dad introduced me to, which a lot of people have forgotten nowadays.
But, my collection not only contains just short-lived TV shows, mind you. Got a helluva lot of classics, both well-known and cult classics too. Hell, I got Laserdiscs of the Star Wars OT series, pre-Special Edition screw-ups. Kinda wish they were the widescreen versions, but still the closest thing you'd find to the unaltered theatrical versions.
Reply: Aech - Posted - 51 Days Ago
Wait... You have the original theatrical releases of the OT SW films? Including Return of the Jedi? Before Disney CGed over Leia's slave outfit with that stupid white bodysuit underneath the bikini? Now, I'm jealous! XD Any chance I can get a screencap of Leia in that outfit?
Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart – Posted 51 Days Ago
Yep. Back when Han Solo shot only, back when the ships looked like they were actually REAL objects, back before Lucas had his constant revisions and back before Disney tried to edit references to the Abrams-involved abominations into the originals. “Before the dark times... Before the Empire.” And, sure, here you go. (Attachment)
Reply: Aech Posted - 51 Days Ago
Dude, thank you! That's totally becoming my wallpaper! And, please, don't mention the Abrams-involved abominations. Seriously, they made the Holiday Special look like an actual better sequel.

Yeah, well, that's at least one thing that Star Wars and Star Trek fans have in common: their equal realization of how terrible that guy's involvement in both franchises really was. I'll never understand how anyone could even consider his work “good”. The only good things he did right was writing the script for Regarding Henry and being the producer of the HBO reboot of Westworld. That's pretty much the only real contributions he should be known for.
Reply: Aech - Posted - 51 Days Ago
I'll agree on those two. Say, isn't Deadly Games that show with Christopher Lloyd?
Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart - Posted - 51 Days Ago
Yep. Executive produced by Leonard Nimoy, the original Mr. Spock himself, and guest starring several Star Trek alumni, Anthony Michael Hall and the mom from The Partridge Family.
Reply: Aech - Posted - 51 Days Ago
I can't even find that show on YouTube. The only thing is the opening credits and a review of two episodes done by puppets back in 2016 (weird video, actually).
Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart - Posted - 51 Days Ago
I've got all episodes on VHS, recorded by my Dad back when he was a kid and off of UPN (back when it existed too). I'll capture them to video and set up a torrent for you if you want to check it out. May not be the best quality, but still, better than nothing.
Reply: Aech - Posted - 51 Days Ago
Sure! Both Z and I are in a Christopher Lloyd kick right now anyway. Since the Egg Hunt has completed, we've decided to see what else Lloyd's done outside of Buckaroo Banzai, BTTF and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. We're almost done with the complete run of Taxi and his performance in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

Okay, but be warned: it's kinda cheesy. But then again, it was the 1990s.

Hello, Daedalus. Aech shared your story with us, and I wanted to say thanks for helping out in the fight. Also, thank you for the best wishes for Art3mis and I. I'm sorry that things didn't work out with you and Dellielah, but glad to read that you two ended on much better terms. Also, I'm glad to read that you got a lick in on Sorrento. I only wish someone could have recorded that so I could have that as a personal clip to replay.

Hey there, Mr. Watts. Thank you very much for the kind words. I'm sure that the OASIS is in good hands. And I hope you at least got a little enjoyment out of Deadly Games.

I have a quick question that maybe you can answer. I remember this TV series that was based on The Flash, but I'm not sure if it's my memory is screwing up what I remember of the 2014 series. I remember watching it with my Dad a long time ago before his death. I mean, I think it was The Flash, but Mark Hamill was in it and he looked much younger than he did in the 2014 version. I tried using Wikipedia to try and find the answer, but you know how that is a majority of the time (much like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy when it comes to these days). Am I going nuts or was there another version of the show that existed?
(Daedalus Tigerheart Liked This Reply) Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart – Posted 46 Days Ago
Funny you mention that, Mr. Watts. In fact, there was a previous TV adaptation in the 1990s. You see, it was originally broadcast on CBS and the show co-starred Amanda Pays, whom you may know from the TV series Max Headroom (I figured you might, considering the alias you used in your Batman Gambit of the IOI). Anyways, Mark Hamill himself played the role of The Trickster in the show. In fact, for the 2014 show, he actually reprises the role of The Trickster (which is why you remember him being younger than how he was in the 2014 series, because he played the same character in two different live-action TV adaptations). In fact, the 2014 version of the show was the his third time playing the character, as he provided the voice for the character in a Justice League animated series.
It's actually quite funny, as Hamill also provided the voice for The Joker in the Batman: The Animated Series, as well as several other animated movies, video game spin-offs and for the live-action, and equally short-lived, TV series adaptation of Birds of Prey (which was Harley Quinn's real first time as a live-action character. Don't fall for the whole “Suicide Squad was Harley Quinn's first time as a live-action portrayal of the character” hoopla. That film was only her first time in a live-action feature film).
(Parzival Liked This Reply) Post: Aech – Posted 47 Days Ago
Wait, who played Harley Quinn first in live-action?
Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart – Posted 46 Days Ago, Edited 46 Days Ago.
I think it was the woman who played Sloane from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. My memory is a little fuzzy on that.
ADDITIONAL EDIT: Just checked the DVDs. Yeah, it was her. Mia Sara. Geez, my memory is getting fuzzy.

Geez, man, you should have just started at the battle. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I helped keep the IOI from going in the castle with you, but I got half way through reading this and just gave up. Everyone wants to get to the good part, not suffer this snooze-fest! Down voted!

I'm sorry you feel that way, Mr. I-r0k. I value your opinion and hope you find enjoyment in other stories.

Damn it, I-r0k! This is his story, he can tell it however he wants. If he chooses to make it as long as Stephen King's The Dark Tower, he's got the right to do so. He even says in the story about how he's not writing it like everyone else has written it. This was his way. And, he actually made you look like a damn decent hero along with his group of friends, you dillweed! Seriously, Daed, you should cut out the reference to him.
(Parzival and Eight Others Liked This Reply) Reply: Parzival, 43 Days Ago
I agree with you, Aech. This poseur should be cut out of the story. Seriously, I-r0k, I was starting to see you as a decent human being for being at Chthonia and on the line with him thanks to this story. You're still just an asshole, aren't you?
(Aech Liked This Reply) Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart, 43 Days Ago
Now, Parzival, please, he's entitled to his opinion, even if his lack of pop culture knowledge is extremely limited. I won't cut him from the story, as he was just as important as everyone else on that front line with me.

Hey, my knowledge isn't limited you, old fart! I bet you don't know anything from the 1980s. I bet you can't even guess what this game is just by looking at the cover art. (Attachment)
Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart, 42 Days Ago
Mr. I-r0k, that's the cover art for the 1984 video game Swordquest: Waterworld, the third game in the Swordquest series, starting in 1982 and ending in 1984 with the limited release of Swordquest: Waterworld. The game was designed by Dan Hitchens and Tod Frye. Tod Frye was also known for adapting Pac-Man from the arcade machine to the Atari 2600 (though probably not the best port of it). Dan Hitchens was also the programmer for the Mario Bros. arcade game released in 1983 and Berzerk released in 1982 before Swordquest.

I almost spit out my drink while I read this! Haha! Man, I-r0k, this guy is older than you and knows more about Swordquest than you do! I can't stop laughing at this! XD
(Parzival And Two Others Liked This Reply) Reply: Parzival, 42 Days Ago
I have to admit, this really makes my day. How are you familiar with Swordquest, Daed? Isn't it way before your time?
(Aech Liked This Reply) Reply: Daedalus Tigerheart
Like I mentioned in my story, my Dad and I used to game together. He didn't just introduce me to PC games of the past, but some of the classic console systems, including the Atari 2600. My Dad gave me a copy of The Art of Atari by Tim Laptino for my birthday one year. In fact, I have all three Swordquest games in my collection, as well as the ultra-rare contest promo insert for the Fireworld Challenge with the original fill-out section still intact. So, Mr. I-r0k, did I answer your challenge correctly and with satisfaction?

Fuck you, old man! You tried to make it look like that the battle was meant to be this honorable public service bullshit. The fact of the matter is that the High Five called on everyone was because they couldn't get through to the gate and needed fucking cannon fodder to do it! I'm out of here!
