r/afkarena FAQ (Updated 6/12/2020) & Quick Information about Updated Guides Section
Welcome to the AFK Arena FAQ! Updated 6/12/2020
Please read how the FAQ works before scrolling aimlessly. Trust me! It will help :)
Search the page for keywords you feel are relevant to your question (using CTRL + F on PC and Command + F on Mac) (ex. Signature Item).
This will (hopefully) take you to the table of contents and you’ll be able to find the relevant question associated with your keywords.
Search the page for either the question itself or the associated ID (ex. #004).
This will take you straight to the associated explanation and/or resources.
If you can’t find your answer, check that it’s not in the FAQ/Guides section and then post in the subreddit.
This is a new system we are trying that will continually be updated by the mod team in the future. This FAQ is designed for easy readability and searchability. To use the FAQ, simply follow the steps outlined above. Since this is the system we are using, the questions are not ordered in any particular fashion. If you’re new and looking for general information please check out the FAQ/Guides section of the sub first! There is a general guide section and a new player guide section. Check here for specific questions following that. If you still can’t find the help you need, feel free to post about it! One major question that won’t be answered in each question is when the feature unlocks because this is both tedious and easy to find on your own. Here is a resource that covers all feature unlocks. In the future, as questions continue to arise, suggestions are made, and game features are updated, we will add to the FAQ to answer your questions and reduce clutter in the sub to provide original content, guides, and discussion to be more prominent. Please comment down below any suggestions for questions or keywords that you feel should be added or to point out any incorrect information.
As you know, we’ve completely overhauled the Guides section, making it contain more relevant information. We’ve also reorganized it entirely to provide information for people at different sectors of the game. In the latest change, we’ve added guides for recurring events and events that are ongoing! This will continue to be updated when guides are available in the future.

Who should I ascend first/should I use my ascended tier hero as fodder? (#003)
First of all, it is never considered good practice to use ascended tier heroes as fodder. Any posts in the subreddit about this will be removed. Only use legendary tier heroes as fodder (see #016 for more info). When deciding who to ascend first, refer to the FAQ/Guides section where you can find several guides to help make this decision, including the most recent AFK Arena Tier List (makes sure to look at the FAQ/Guides section to see heroes that have been added to the game after the tier list made), Common mistakes new players make, and the AFK Arena Cheatsheet
What are Signature Items (SIs)? How do I get resources to upgrade them? Which heroes’ SI should I upgrade? (#004)
Signature Items are another upgradeable feature in that game that you unlock when your hero reaches Mythic. You can then upgrade their SI to level 40 if they are a celestial/hypogean/dimensional and level 30 otherwise. Going from 0 to 10 requires 220 primordial (silver) emblems, going from 11 to 20 requires 240 amplifying (gold) emblems, and going higher requires faction emblems (300 from 21 to 30 and 1000 for 31 to 40). Faction emblems can be acquired from faction choice (red) chests. Dimensional emblems for 21 to 40 can be bought from the shop or store. Non-celestial/hypogean emblems can drop from the campaign. Celestial and hypogean emblems can be opened from red chests. Silver and Gold emblems drop from the campaign and can be bought for gold from the in-game store after a hero reaches Mythic. There are other sources as well for these resources but these are the main ones that are affordable. Upgrading heroes to SI 10 is something you can always do, simply because these are not rare in any way and does not take a long time to collect/buy either. However, you should prioritize the best SIs over the worst (eg. Rowan over Brutus) so you can start working on your SI 30 heroes first. For this question, most people are referring to the SI 30, as it is what is one of the first major accessible hurdles for most players given that SI 20 and 10 are relatively easy to achieve. Regardless of how much you spend, Rowan has one of the most god-tier SIs in the game currently and is generally everyone’s first choice to max out. If you’re a heavy spender, the next choice will be Talene and then other celestial/hypogeans. Talene is also the first choice for those stargazing for her. For lower spender or free to play (F2P), the next best choices are from the “F2P trio” of Ferael, Eironn, and Safiya in that order. A good early SI 20 is Lyca. After this, you can generally choose your next 20s and 30s by following this SI tier list (makes sure to look at the FAQ/Guides section to see heroes that have been added to the game after the tier list made).
My game isn’t working and is having issues, where should I go? (#005)
Please utilize in-game support and don’t post your issue in the subreddit.
How does ascending heroes work? (#006)
For Dimensionals: To ascend dimensional heroes, you simply link them with another hero in the temple of ascension. For Celestial/Hypogeans: Click me For other factions: Click me
How are celestial/hypogean heroes different? How do I get more copies to ascend them? (#007)
Celestial/hypogean heroes are stronger and rarer than most regular heroes. Their rarity is complemented by their increased strength and powerful kits. To learn how to ascend them, refer to the infographic in question #006. When it comes to getting more copies, there is a low chance to acquire these heroes in the noble tavern and elite hero soulstones. The primary way of acquiring these heroes is through stargazing. Please refer to question #008 to learn about stargazing. Wukong can be acquired through the Labyrinth Store and Athalia and Ezizih can be acquired in the Legend’s Challenger Tournament Store.
What is stargazing? How does stargazing work? Who should I stargaze for? (#008)
Stargazing is a feature of the game that unlocks in chapter 16 or once you reach VIP 13. Here’s a really great guide on stargazing that answers what it is and how it works and who you should gaze for. One important note is to only ever stargaze for celestial hypogeans as they are extremely rare and are the only heroes that justify the cost of stargazing. You should also not focus on stargazing until you have a few ascended of every faction except Celestial/Hypogean/Dimensional.
How does the VIP system work? (#009)
The VIP system in an AFK arena is a rewards system geared to encourage heavy spending. As you spend money on the game, you earn VIP points which get added to your total. As your total breaks past certain points, your overall VIP level increases. You can also earn VIP points by leveling up. Without spending, you can still reach VIP 10 simply through leveling up. You can go in-game and click the plus button in the top right next to your diamond count to see your current VIP level. You can click on the perks icon to see all of the VIP levels and their rewards. The rewards include heroes, equipment, fodder, increased rewards and AFK time, early access to the stargazer, and far more. At VIP 14 you unlock exclusive chat and support functions and more redemption codes.
Here is information about how many VIP points are required for each level.
What are redemption codes? Where can I find them and redeem them? (#010)
Redemption codes are codes that are occasionally released by the developers to give us some free rewards. You can find them on the subreddit or you find all active codes listed here. Spenders at VIP 14 or higher also receive exclusive codes. To redeem codes, click your player icon, click Settings, click redemption code, and paste the redemption code in and redeem.
How do tavern pulls/scrolls work? (#011)
The noble tavern is where you can use diamonds, friendship points (hearts), scrolls, faction scrolls, and, later, stargazing cards to “pull” heroes. It is your primary source of income for both new heroes and “fodder” heroes (see #016 for “fodder”). The other source is rare and elite hero soulstones (“blue” and “purple” soulstones respectively). One of the most important notes regarding tavern pulls is, when using diamonds to do pulls, always wait until you have 2700 diamonds to do a pull of 10 instead of just a single pull. This is because you are spending an average of 270 diamonds per hero when using this method, effectively giving you a 10% discount over single pulls. This guide covers all of the other useful information regarding this topic.
How does the wishlist work? (#012)
The wishlist can be accessed through The Noble Tavern. It gives the player the option to add 5 heroes total for each faction, except celestials/hypogeans/dimensionals, to the list. The wishlist only works for diamonds, friendship points or scroll pulls (both normal and faction scrolls). Soulstones are not affected and will produce any hero in the game. This guide goes in-depth as to how exactly the wishlist works.
How to get all the game currencies and get as much of each as possible? (#013)
Here are all of the main game currencies: diamonds, gold coins, hero experience/EXP, hero’s essence/dust, challenger tokens, guild coins, hero coins, labyrinth tokens, and twisted essence. There are a few other currencies such as resonating crystal coins that are more niche and less important. These have been left out for the sake of brevity as they are less important. Below is how to obtain the relevant ones and where they can be used (mostly complete, maybe missing a few as many resources can be obtained from multiple sources): Diamonds: How to get this currency: Purchases, Quests, King’s tower rewards, Hotfixes, Peaks of Time, Bounty Board, Arena, Arcane Labyrinth, Guild Hunts, Wall of Legends, and others Where to use this currency: Noble Tavern, Stargazing, Store Gold coins: How to get this currency: Campaign rewards, Fast Rewards, Guild Hunts, King’s Tower, Faction Towers, Quests, Peaks of Time, Arcane Labyrinth, Bounty Board, Arena, and others Where to use this currency: Leveling up heroes, Store Hero Experience/EXP: How to get this currency: Campaign rewards, Fast Rewards, Faction Towers, Quests, Store, Stargazing, and others Where to use this currency: Leveling up heroes Heroes’ essence/dust: How to get this currency: Campaign rewards, Fast Rewards, King’s Tower, Faction Towers, Bounty Board, Quests, Store, Stargazing and others Where to use this currency: Leveling up heroes Challenger tokens: How to get this currency: Legend’s Challenger Tournament, Arcane Labyrinth Hard Mode Wrizz Where to use this currency: Legend’s Challenger Tournament Store Guild coins: How to get this currency: guild hunts, team hunt rewards in the mail, Arcane Labyrinth (Hard Mode Wrizz) Where to use this currency: Guild Store Hero coins: How to get this currency: retiring “green” or common heroes Where to use this currency: Barracks store Labyrinth tokens: How to get this currency: Arcane Labyrinth, get extra from VIP rewards, Arcane Labyrinth (Hard Mode Wrizz) Where to use this currency: Labyrinth Store Twisted essence: How to get this currency: Twisted Realm Bosses, Barracks store Where to use this currency: upgrading branches of the Elder Tree
What is the dust wall and how does it work? (Hero’s Essence) (#014)
As you level up your main 5 heroes, you’ll find that the cost of Hero’s Essence increases to the point where it will become your main resource wall. It will likely remain your main wall from about 200 to about 270-280 at which point Hero Experience becomes the main resource that is lacking.
Here’s a great guide on the dust wall and how to tackle it!
How does the resonating crystal work before and after 240? (#015)
The Resonating Crystal pre-240 gives you the opportunity to add heroes you have obtained to it in order to level them up to your current lowest level hero on the Pentagram, regardless of their ascension level, but limited by their maximum ascension. A hero cannot be leveled up if they are currently using the Resonating Crystal. There cannot be more than a 40 level gap between the highest level heroes on the pentagram and the lowest. When a hero is removed, the slot it possessed will go on a 24-hour cooldown before it's ready to be used again, however spending 100 diamonds immediately resets the timer. This timer will only occur if you remove a hero manually, not if they are retired or ascended. Once you break the level 240 limit, you may not level up the heroes individually, but the Resonating Crystal as a whole. Hero slots can be added through Resonating Crystal Coins.
Here’s a guide to look at which explains it as well.
How do I tell if a hero is ascended tier or legendary tier? (#016)
The difference between ascended tier and legendary tier heroes is that ascended tier heroes can level up beyond level 160, whereas legendary tier heroes reach their maximum level there. When going to the hero tab and looking at the portraits, you will notice two different sections. The first area is labeled ascended and contains all ascended tier heroes, the second one contains the legendary tier heroes, and the third one contains the common or “green” heroes. Legendary tier heroes are what’s known as “fodder.” They are only useful in the very early portions of the games and can thus be used as food or fodder to ascend ascended tier heroes. The only exception here is Arden who is used quite often even after the player’s resonating crystal level is past 160. Many players keep a copy of Arden in their crystal for his usefulness.
How does the rickety cart work and how do I automatically get rid of green heroes? (#017)
The rickety cart gives the player 3 options total. Resetting a hero, which means returning the hero to its original state and giving all resources used back to the player, except SI emblems. This can be done for 20 diamonds and is very useful. The second option is retiring heroes, which means that all common tier heroes are disenchanted and turned to hero's essence and hero coins. There is an option to do this automatically and can be toggled on and off. The third option is reverting a hero, which can be used when the player currently possesses two copies of the same hero that are higher than elite+. The hero with the lower ascension tier will be reverted and all rare heroes required to ascend the hero will be returned. This is useful if you accidentally ascend two heroes past elite+ as you only need one ascended copy of each hero.
How does the Library work? How do Unions and Elder Tree work? (#018)
The Library has two sections: Unions and the Elder Tree. Unions allow you to give boosts to your heroes. If, between you, your guild, and your friends list, can fill all the heroes in the union by either having them, having them at elite+, or having them at legendary+, you will get all the respective boosts. The boosts only apply to the heroes in that union. Some fodder heroes are required in some unions The Elder Tree is a stat-boosting feature. The main elder tree upgrade applies to all heroes and can be upgraded using Flawless Droplets. Flawless Droplets can be acquired by ascending heroes to a new level for the first time. The branches can be upgraded by Twisted Essence which is acquired from the Twisted Realm and store. These upgrades only apply to the heroes in that branch. Extra stat boosts are received at various levels. You can see these stat boosts and which branches you should upgrade here.
How do all the stores work and what should I buy in them? (#019)
Guild Store: The currency used in this store is guild coins. You get guild coins from guild hunts, team hunt rewards in the mail, and Arcane Labyrinth Hard Mode Wrizz. You should only spend guild coins on mythic gear, T1 upgrades, and T2 upgrades. There is a maximum of 100,000 coins so if you hit the maximum before you unlock mythic gear, you should use them as there is no point not to. Barracks: The currency used in this store is hero coins. You get hero coins from retiring “green” or common heroes. It is only worth it to get elite hero soulstones. Twisted essence is not as worth it but you can buy it if you really want. Labyrinth Store: The currency used in this store is labyrinth tokens. You can get labyrinth tokens from, Arcane Labyrinth and Arcane Labyrinth Hard Mode Wrizz. Shemira is generally considered the highest priority in this store. The priority of the rest of the heroes is debated heavily. Within this guide there is a pretty widely accepted priority list going Shemira > Nemora/Thoran > ArthuWukong > Khasos/Skreg > Estrilda > Seirus. Raine doesn’t really count. Rigby doesn't either. Legend’s Challenger Tournament Store: The currency used in this store is challenger tokens. You can get challenger tokens from Legend’s Challenger Tournament and Arcane Labyrinth Hard Mode Wrizz. Tokens in this store should only be spent on Athalia and Ezizh. Athalia is generally more valuable for PvP and wilder teams and Ezizh is more valuable for PvE and lightbearer teams. Here is another resource debating this to help you decide between which one of the two to buy.
How do guild hunts work and what are the best teams? (#020)
Guild hunts contain 2 bosses that can be attacked for guild coins, gold, diamonds, and fodder gear. These bosses are Wrizz and Soren. Wrizz unlocks daily and is generally considered easier. Soren unlocks when your Guild leader or deputies unlock him after your guild reaches 9,000 trophies (trophies are generated by players completing daily quests). You can attack each boss once and then repeated your highest damage attack so you don’t have to sit through the fight each time the boss opens. It is difficult to pin down what teams to use as the meta is currently shifting. Lightbearer support (particularly Rowan and Rosaline) and the twins are generally considered staple heroes. Belinda used to be the primary damage. Once Talene was released she became the primary damage dealer but remained inaccessible for many players. Now, with the release of Saurus, many teams use Saurus, even at low ascension, to great effect. In summary, it is good to use Belinda if you lack Saurus and Talene. Saurus is generally considered better than Talene now if you have him but Talene is still invaluable as secondary damage and support if you have her at decent ascension/SI. It mostly comes down to which heroes you have.
How does Twisted realm work and what are the best teams? (#021)
Here is an in-depth guide on Twisted realm and the best teams.
How does Peaks of Time work? (#022)
Peaks of Time is a game feature that allows you to complete puzzles to receive rewards. You unlock them by stage. Many of them are complex and difficult and require some leveling and strategy to beat. They give many rewards, the most important being Dura’s Artifacts (See #025) to learn more). The Peaks of Time are split up into two sections: Historic Ventures and Wandering Balloon. You can find a series of guides on how to complete every Peaks of Time on the FAQ/Guides section.
How does the Arcane Labyrinth work? (#023)
Here is an in-depth guide on the Arcane Labyrinth.
How do battle wagers work? (#024)
The Legends’ Championship is a cross-server tournament, in which the top 10 players with the most Challenger Points qualify in. Players that perform well in the Legend’s Challenger group will progress to the group stage, at which the player must face every rival once. After passing this stage, the player progresses through to the 64 player knockout stage. Once open, the Legend’s Championship will run every day for a week. During this week you may bet on the finalists using a certain amount of gold, which increases with your progression. For tips on how to win battle wagers, please refer to this guide
How do Dura’s Artifacts work and who should I put them on? (#025)
Dura’s Artifacts are powerful boosts that can be equipped on any here. There are 7 of them and they are obtained by beating specific Peaks of Time. You can see which heroes you should put them on here.
How do I get Mythic gear, T1 upgrades, and T2 upgrades? What is the mythic trick and how does it work? (#026)
Mythic gear, T1 upgrades, and T2 upgrades drop from the campaign and are purchasable in the Guild Store for guild coins. You can also purchase them with diamonds in the store but this is not advisable. Here is a guide that covers Mythic Trick, gearing, gear upgrades, gearing priorities, and more about gear in an in-depth fashion.
What is the early game hero/team meta? Shemira? (#027)
Most teams are based around what supports you should use. The main two support teams are wilder and lightbearer. The wilder support consists of Tasi, Lyca, Nemora, and (before 180) Arden. Brutus is often used as a 4th slot. The lightbearer support consists on Rowan, Lucius, Rosaline, Fawkes. Rowan, once his SI is unlocked and is past level 160, can be used decently well with wilders too, becoming more of a staple as levels increase. These supports are usually paired with 1 damage hero, often called a “carry.” Good early-game carries (before level 160) are Saveas, Mirael, and Belinda. After 160, Shemira and Belinda become the main carries until 240-270 when heroes like Ferael, Eironn, and Safiya begin to take over. Saveas and Shemira are great with wilders. Mirael, Shemira, and Belinda are good with lightbearers. Later, Ferael functions well with both, and Eironn and Safiya are used with wilders.
How do I get past the stage I’m stuck on? (#028)
Please refer to this guide and follow the flowchart in question 5.
What are the purchases that give the best value? (#029)
These are the main spending sources. If you intend on spending more than this, you can judge what is valuable to you. Many of the deals that pop up when you complete milestones are very useful but not always.
*** How does the Field of Stars Work?* (#030)**
Field of Stars can be found in the Library and provides many unlockable bonuses when you reach certain in-game milestones. The Hero Choice Pack is an unlockable feature paired with the Field of Stars that allows you to spend 3,000 diamonds on a 10-pull of heroes. The main caveat associated with this is that, every elite pulled here will be a non-celepogean hero of your choice. You can do this upto 6 times a month once you unlock the respective bonuses. In this guide, you can find all the unlockable bonuses for Field of Stars.
*** How does the Oak Inn work?* (#031)**
The Oak Inn can be found on the Ranhorn tab of the game. You can collect poe coins through campaign and other resources and spend them here to acquire furniture. You can acquire elite, legendary, and mythic tier furnitures. Elite furnitures are faction-based, Legendary furnitures are faction-based and elder tree branch-based, and mythic tier furnitures are hero specific. If you get 3/9 or 9/9 mythic tier furniture for a hero, you unlock extra abilities for that hero, similar to signature items.
The workshop is used to spend poe coins. The workshop also has a wishlist, pity timer, and periodic rewards similar to tavern summons.
Here is a quick-start guide for Oak Inn. It covers many of the feature regarding the Workshop Here is a Tier List for Furniture that will help you design your wishlist.
With Cheltenham Festival coming up, I thought I’d put together a comprehensive guide and overview for what is THE most profitable time for matched bettors. So whether you have been doing matched betting for a while or you’re completely new to the concept, with a bit of luck this post should be interesting/useful. Just a quick disclaimer. Throughout this guide I will be referencing Heads&Heads, however, this is not a promotional piece. The advice below can be used and applied to whichever service you happen to be with. There will be an offer at the bottom of this guide. Ignore it if you are not interested, I won’t be offended – the important thing is we all smash Cheltenham while it is still so profitable. Firstly, why exactly is this such a profitable time for Matched Bettors? Well, simply put, the Cheltenham Festival is one of the world’s biggest horse racing events. As such, all the bookmakers will be falling over themselves to ensure punters place their bets with them rather than their competitors. Why Cheltenham is a Big Deal Cheltenham Festival is one of the busiest times of the year for bookmakers with projections of around £500 million to be placed in bets over the 4 days of racing. There are a total of 28 races to bet on giving an average of around £17,850,000 bet on each race. Punters at the Festival and around the country betting online jump on early ante-post markets and last minute bets. The rise of mobile betting in recently years has given bookmakers a new way to connect with customers and now it’s easier than ever to place a bet wherever you are. With so much money involved in betting on races at Cheltenham, bookies fight for customers in the run-up and during the festival. One way bookies entice customers to bet with them over a competitor is to run special promotions for the races. These can be in the form of free bet offers, money back specials, extra places, best odds guaranteed and more. Punters looking for the best value in their bets should take advantage of these enhanced offers while they are around as they can result in increased returns and minimised losses. All of this plays into the hands of matched bettors like us, who can take advantage of the value without incurring risk. If you are holding back on completing welcome offers before Cheltenham, then you should know that several bookmakers run enhanced offers throughout Cheltenham. Some of the more popular ones being Betfair, SkyBet, Ladbrokes, Coral and Betfred. 6 Steps For Tackling Cheltenham With all the offers and potential profit flying around it can become a little overwhelming. The best place to start is by simply practicing the basics - and that is our first of six steps for getting ready to tackle Cheltenham. Note: I will update this post with the key offers closer to the time. 1. Practice Makes Perfect When it comes to matched betting you can never get enough practice! You may think you understand every reload strategy there is. However, when the offers come as quickly as they do during Cheltenham, practice can be the difference between getting into breaking the £1,000 profit mark and missing out. So, make sure that you have familiarised yourself with and practiced the popular horse racing offers before Cheltenham. These include 2nd to SP Fav, 2nd place refund, 4/1 winner, fallers insurance. Simply doing a Saturday’s worth of horse racing reload offers will tick a lot of these boxes. If you would like to understand the concept a little more, we recommend going to the Training Section of Heads&Heads and looking at the guides under the sub-heading, ‘Offer Strategies’. 2. Be Organised This can be best summed up as - make sure that your money is where it needs to be before the end of the weekend prior to Cheltenham (7th & 8th March). Additionally, try to have completed the majority of the welcome offers for the major bookmakers. The key bookmaker to have ready is Bet365 – their Horse racing offer during the festival is massively profitable. Set up a separate PayPal for faster withdrawals. If you've not got a massive exchange balance, then on this rare occasion we recommend boosting its size using your own funds. Of course, because you’re matched betting the only risk is the tiny qualifying loss per offer, which you should be used to by now. The last thing you want is to be missing out on offers and not making the most of the available profit. Try to get some bets on the night before if the odds matches are strong. Know which offers are available on which races and know what offers you want to go for on each race. 3. Go Easy Early Do easy low stake reloads (Free bet on a loss, 2nd place, 2nd to SP favourite, etc) the night before if possible or early morning. The Exchanges will have a lot of liquidity, even hours before the races – meaning that you will not need to worry about unmatched bets when laying. 4. Odds Boosts & VIP Look out for the boosts and make a note to check the Heads&Heads forums facebook group hourly for any updates on potential boosts. These will come thick and fast, but if you are quick, you can create some pretty incredible profit margins. Additionally, make sure you check your email over the 4 days. There will be plenty of bookmakers handing out ‘tailored’ offers to their VIP members. VIP has a loose definition in the eyes of the bookmaker, so you’re likely to get a lot more of these than you think and they are often very lucrative. If you want Heads&Heads to check a VIP offer before you attempt it, just post on the forum or message us on Live Chat. 5. Enjoy It Sounds cliché but don’t let it stress you out. Making money is great but taking the week off work and then running yourself into the ground all week isn't worth it. Matched betting is a side earner – something to enjoy and be done in your spare time to earn you some extra cash. It should not feel like a job. 6. A Small Exchange Balance Is No Excuse! Is it worth taking part with a really small bank like £500'ish? Even if you just did the offers that guaranteed a profit, you’d still make around £250 and this would not require a massive exchange balance. So yes, it is absolutely still worth it. What If I Am Gubbed by Most Bookmakers? This is a very common question and not an unreasonable one either. After all it is incredibly frustrating to have your account with a bookie gubbed. This is even worse when a huge event like Cheltenham is coming up. Honestly, it will restrict your ability to make money, but it is still possible to make a profit from Cheltenham. Extra place strategies are worth looking at. This is made possible because Extra place betting doesn’t rely on you using free offers. So, if the bookie has only restricted your use of free offers then this is your best option. Furthermore, if you are restricted from getting reload offers by a bookmaker, you should still be able to take advantage of odds boosts. So, keep an eye out for these on the Heads&Heads Forum. Anything I Should Be Looking Out For? One issue to be aware of is that of the smaller bookmakers offering very generous odds. If an offer looks too good to be true then you should be careful. This was particularly true a couple of years ago, when a lot of smaller bookies offered really good odds and then refused to pay out people’s winnings. This problem is unlikely to occur again (happened in 2017), with bookmakers under the spotlight by legislators like never before. In addition, if you have an account with the bookmaker prior to Cheltenham starting, then you’ll be slightly more trusted by the bookie and thus they will honour your pay-out. Should You Book Time Off Work? Are you planning to take time off work during Cheltenham? This could be a great idea. As well as watching the races on TV, you can stay up to date with all of the offers during the day. However, we want to stress that taking time off work is by no means 'required' to make money during this week. That said, speed will be key for so many of the opportunities during the festival. You may only have a small amount of time to place your bet or lose the opportunity. Being at home will, of course, make this a lot easier. However, not everyone can take all 4 days off. So which days should you prioritise? Simple answer really. The first day – Tuesday (10th March). The reason for this is that the first day sees more offers available than any other single day. The bookies tend to start off strong and tail off towards the end. Cheltenham Schedule Day 1 (Tuesday 10th March 2020) 13:30 -The Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle 14:10 - The Racing Post Arkle Challenge Trophy Chase 14:50 -The Ultima Handicap Steeple Chase 15:30 - The Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy 16:10 - The Mares’ Hurdle 16:50 - The Close Brothers Novices’ Handicap Chase 17:30 - The National Hunt Challenge Cup Day 2 (Wednesday 11th March 2020) 13:30 - The Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle 14:10 - The RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase 14:50 - The Coral Cup 15:30 - The Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase 16:10 - The Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase 16:50 - The Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle 17:30 - The Weatherbys Champion Bumper Day 3 (Thursday 12th March 2020) 13:30 - The Marsh Novices’ Chase 14:10 - The Pertemps Network Final 14:50 - The Ryanair Chase 15:30 - The Stayers’ Hurdle 16:10 - The Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate 16:50 - Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle 17:30 - The Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Day 4 (Friday 13th March 2020) 13:30 - The JCB Triumph Hurdle 14:10 - The Randox Health County Handicap Hurdle 14:50 - The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle 15:30 - The Cheltenham Gold Cup 16:10 - The St. James’s Place Foxhunter Challenge Cup 16:50 - Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Handicap Chase 17:30 - Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle Our Predictions Now, predictions may seem a bit useless as we are matched betting. However, knowing who the experts favour to win can help you pick a horse. So, for example, if an offer was triggered if your horse lost, you'd want to be sure you were avoiding those favoured to do well. So, use the below to help inform some of your decisions when completing Cheltenham reload offers. Epatante Epatante has caught the eye of punters during the early betting for the Champion Hurdle and, at the time of writing, rates as one of the strongest race favourites of the week. We likely have not seen the best of this horse. Benie Des Dieux Benie Des Dieux is quoted for a few Cheltenham races this spring but traders at major bookmakers are confident she will run in the Mares Hurdle. If she does, bookies expect her to win the race with a bit to spare. Envoi Allen Envoi Allen is priced as the standout horse in the Ballymore Novices Hurdle and traders believe he will take all the beating. A loss here will rate as one of the biggest upsets of the week. He won each of his first seven starts. Defi Du Seuil Defi Du Seuil can be found quoted in the Champion Chase antepost betting and the early money has been promising. He has won 13 of his first 18 and those stats aren’t to be taken lightly, certainly not by backers. Tiger Roll Tiger Roll is a fans favourite but have we already seen the best of Tiger Roll? As it stands Tiger Roll is the antepost favourite to win the Cross Country Chase and is a short price at that. Every Cheltenham offer will be posted on the Reload section. It is also worth keeping up to date with the Cheltenham Forum thread – here the best offers of the day will be discussed. If you are interested in giving matched betting a go or Heads&Heads a go I’ve posted a discount code below. As I mentioned at the start of the guide, you can either use it or not. 2. Extra place strategies are worth looking at (on Heads&Heads Training). Every Cheltenham offer will be posted on the Reload section (on Heads&Heads). It is also worth keeping up to date with the Cheltenham Forum thread (on Heads&Heads) – here the best offers of the day will be discussed. If you are interested in giving matched betting a go or Heads&Heads a go I’ve posted a discount code below. As I mentioned at the start of the guide, you can either use it or not. The r/MtvChallenge Fantasy Tournament: Redemption House - Day 24 (REDEMPTION HOUSE FINALS)
Greetings, losers and winners alike! Welcome to the last day of user competition for this off-season. It’s a big day. Let me set the stage: In early December, sixty-four teams drafted four players each in the hopes of becoming the inaugural MtvChallenge fantasy tournament champion. For the last seven weeks, teams have battled head-to-head on a series of randomized finals. Some teams have eked by in their matches, others have routed their opponents, and still others have been on nauseating, topsy-turvy rides through the main bracket, down to the redemption house, and back up through redemption. Now (or, in a few moments after I announce the results of yesterday’s matches), we are left with our four last losers: two from the Real World bracket, and two from the Road Rules bracket. Today, they will battle each other in the War of the Worlds 2 final to decide which team is the ruler of Redemption. We as voters have a great responsibility ahead of us; let us not take it lightly. So come one, come all, and help elect the first loser’s bracket champions in the history of the sub. Before we get to the voting, let’s recap last night’s match-ups. Real World Bracket
Wow, that’s a lot of votes. 255 friggen voters is an outstanding number! I believe it shatters the previous redemption house record, and it likely beats the highest count for the main bracket as well (until yesterday, at least). So congratulations to all the teams who competed yesterday! Let’s see what we have here. Wow. u/drgibbons3323 ran away with this one. I personally thought Team Walnuts got robbed in their main bracket loss, so I’m glad they got a little revenge for that here. I mean, COME ON. Paulie, CJ, Paula, and Tori… how does one person get that team!? How does that team lose?! Here, in The Duel II Final, they showed their true power. Not even good guy Landon could overpower this team, and his ragtag team of Sylvia, Natalie Negrotti, and Adam Kuhn certainly wouldn’t hold a candle to their opponents this year. The strength and endurance required here or in any final is best suited for Team Walnuts. To u/BCastle18, I’m really glad you got this far and you have an awesome team, but you ran into an unstoppable force today and that is no fault of yours. To u/drgibbons3323, congratulations, and good luck today! Road Rules Bracket
CJ is the darling of the Redemption House, it would seem. He won the RW match by a ton, and he wins this RR match by a decent margin as well. While this wasn’t the rout that the first match proved to be, it was still a sizable victory for CJ and his angels, which include self-appointed Meathead Hippie Emily Schromm, me-appointed Fitness Icon Ashley Kelsey, and brother of a crazy person Mike Boise. I do think this vote came down to the depth of the teams. I’ve said this before, not too long ago: as much as I love Da’Vonne, she lacks a certain amount of endurance that CJ’s Angels definitely have. If we were voting based on clapbacks, maybe the result would have been different. Instead, we were voting on the Free Agents final, and clapbacks weren’t a part of it (omg imagine if there was a final that included clapbacks. I’m actually pretty surprised that wasn’t the case back in the mid-2000s when the show "Yo Momma" was something MTV actively pushed and sought to grow. Maybe we all voted for CJ because we secretly hope he’ll write us a love letter? I don’t know, and I don’t really care. That’s a valid reason to vote for someone in a contest like this, probably. So great! The point is that while “You Cannot Copy My Walk” is a great team name, a timeless moment, and a solid team, u/wade5554’s team just didn’t have what it took to shoot CJ’s Angels down from the heavens. To u/wade5554, you should be proud of how far you made it, but this ends your time here on the MtvChallenge fantasy tournament. Take care of yourself. To u/phillyfly11, congratulations on reaching the finals of the Road Rules loser’s bracket! Good luck in your match today. Now, only our ultimate task lies ahead: deciding who will be crowned the rulers of Redemption. What follows is the matchups. After all the teams are listed, you’ll read the War of the Worlds 2 Final description.
Paulie Calafiore – War of the Worlds I Stats: In Tribunal 6 out of 12 dailies ; Won first Challenge against all Vets ; Eliminated in Final Purge; Eliminated Kam and Ashley C in only elimination Summary: Paulie showed up and showed out throughout the first installment of the War of the Worlds. Placing in the top of 6 of the 12 dailies and controlling his own destiny throughout the season. He showed great bouts of cardio, puzzle solving, and food eating throughout his challenge history up to this point. Was eliminated in the final purge due to diving into the water headfirst and stunning himself, he was unable to complete what is normally a walk in the park and was eliminated prior to the final. Paulie is an awesome finals teammate if paired with the correct people, we saw what happened when Natalie ruined the first day for them in final reckoning. He excelled in all challenges throughout WOTW1 and was a finals threat (Turbo would have still won) but he has shown he is no slouch. He is determined to never quit even if his body would like him too. His puzzle solving is top of the line and he could carry any team in a puzzle checkpoint of a final to a sweet sweet victory.
CJ Koegel – Battle of the Seasons 2 Stats: Won 2 of 6 dailies ; Beat roided out Zach in a Hall Brawl Elimination (Eliminated due to Jasmine being blanked) Summary: Lets be honest, CJ was never going to win battle of the seasons II with the teammates he was put with. But they still managed to win two daily challenges and he is one of the few to best Zach in anything physical. CJ was a physical specimen with the tenacity of a warrior who was unfortunately paired with a lackluster team in BOTS2. However, it was shown that he is an absolute team player and has the knowledge and strength to run a final. He is most known for besting Zach Nichols 3-2 in a Hall Brawl elimination (Winning the first round 2-0) when Zach was at his biggest by using extremely smart strategy to outsmart the behemoth who is no mental slouch himself. CJ deserved to be on more challenges after quitting after two challenges, he was not one for drama but in the right team would dominate in a final.
Paula “Walnuts” “Iron Stomach” Meronek – Rivals II Stats: RIVALS II CHAMP; Won 6 out of 10 dailies; No eliminations this season Summary: Paula along with her partner Emily put together one of the most dominant seasons in Challenge history. Winning 6 out of the 10 dailies and only being in “trouble” to go to elimination by virtue of being voted in one time. But they managed to avoid elimination throughout the entire season. The Rivals II final consisted of Cardio, puzzles, eating disgusting dishes, strength, and more cardio. Paula and Emily fell behind early through the first two stages, but then the “Iron Stomach” showed everybody who deserved to win that final. She absolutely housed the eating portion of the final, and the rest is history. Paula and Emily went on to win Rivals II and Paula walked off into the sunset a 2-time champ. Paula was always known for being a finals threat. She wasn’t the greatest at eliminations but there was no true threat for her to be in an elimination throughout the entirety of Rivals 2. With her top of the line cardio, her insane eating prowess, and her determination of a champion, Paula is an ideal teammate to have in a final.
Tori “The New Choo-Choo” Deal – War of the Worlds 2 Stats: Purged out in the puzzle portion of the final ; Won 9 out of 14 dailies ; 2 elimination wins Summary: CHOO CHOO! The Tori Train is on the tracks and is prepared to take down anyone in a final. With her incredible endurance throughout the season and unwavering confidence, anybody is lucky to have Tori on their team in a final. She absolutely housed anybody put in front of her and was known for being the first person to turncoat in WOTW2. She absolutely destroyed a physical specimen in Jenny West in a physical elimination. Her finals performance was one for the books until a stroke of genius from Dee and Rogan purged her out at the last minute. Team UK was destined for victory no matter who were the top 4 from that purge. Tori was known for having a god like endurance and relentless grit during WOTW2. She was highly regarded as the best female that was on the show with her cardio, swimming prowess, and overall above average intelligence. A puzzle did her in at the last possible second of the final but she showed that she was never going to quit and I am convinced she could have carried the gurney all 16 miles if needed. All in, she is one of the best overall females to compete throughout the Challenge history and she will come back to prove that.
Alton Williams was an OG who competed on The Gauntlet, Gauntlet 2, Inferno 3 and Seasons 2. In his run of the Challenge, it was obvious that he had killer endurance, elite climbing skills, great agility, was a solid swimmer and good at puzzles. Really all that needs to be said is that he was capable of competing at a top level with almost anyone in almost any daily challenge in the show’s history. He also showed great leadership skills as well - capable of stepping up and leading a team. On Gauntlet 2, Alton won the initial Royal Rumble (where unlike the vet guys - the rookies actually competed) and became team Captain. He remained Captain throughout the entire show, going 3-0 in elimination (with arguably the greatest rope climb of all time against Adam K in Capture the Flag) and lead the rookie team to victory in the Final Challenge.
Adam Larson is an OG competitor who participated in Seasons 1, The Gauntlet and Gauntlet 2. Although his time on the show was short, he always showed to be a popular figure amongst the group and could compete well in Challenges with good strength and endurance. Adam excelled on The Gauntlet, showing he could compete at a high level with many competitors we still consider elite today (Theo V, Abram, Darrell, Miz, Alton) and he won the overall season. He tied Theo Von with the most lifesavers won on the Road Rules team with 2 each and was a steady leadership presence on the male side the entire time.
Considered one of the best to never win, KellyAnne Judd was the most feared woman on The Ruins and for good reason. Only on her second season, she had already made a name for herself by beating Rachel on The Island. Tall, strong, great swimmer and a great runner, KellyAnne did not get to show her full potential during the season for two reasons - 1. she had a terrible team, so they were losing the dailies all the time 2. the champion girls were terrified of going against her, even Susie, so they kept her out of the eliminations except when she defeated two champions in Evelyn and Veronica. She also did great in the finals and was close to pulling an upset win with Sarah over Johnny, Evan, Kenny, Derrick and Susie. Unfortunately, we only got two seasons of prime KA, but those two seasons are enough to show that she would beast any final with the right team.
“Ninja is the only woman to finish the hardest final in The Challenge history" is a line we have heard multiple times. However, Ninja's impressive rookie run goes beyond that sentence. In the first episode, she is the first female rookie to finish the challenge/puzzle. She then goes to win 4 dailies before reaching the final. Her finals performance is still the biggest highlight, She outpaces every other woman, including Cara, has to do extra running than others by being thrown in a surprise elimination with the defending champ and overall, manages to keep up with her male competitors. Ninja is not a perfect player and WotW1 did not test all her skills. She might not be a good swimmer or great at communication, but her cardio and endurance skills are some of the best of all time. She has also proven herself multiple times at puzzles and her real-life profession as a rock climber means she is well suited for many finals. She is also someone who enjoys the challenges and the carnival game aspect of them and while she might become defensive when she does not gel with her teammates, we believe that in a team of calm positive competitors, a.k.a. Silent Assassins, she would not face that issue.
Emily Schromm, Rivals 2: In the wise words of the Godfather Mark Long, “She competes like a dude.” The most physically fit female competitor ,Emily dominated Rivals 2 with 6 daily wins en route to winning the season.
Ashley Kelsey, Invasions: I chose this version of Ashley because she was in better physical shape and has running and winning a final experience and a great team player.
CJ Koegel, Battle of the Seasons 2: Was the Leader of Team Cancun that won 2 dailies and was a part of the major alliance. He proved his ability to think on his feet and his physical strength by defeating Roided up Zach in his HALL BRAWL heat.
Mike Boise, Bloodlines: One of the top performers the entire season, he proved that he wasn’t afraid of any task, asking multiple times to get thrown into elimination and that he has a killer mindset during competition."
Amanda: Solid at most aspects of the game, IMO probably the second-best puzzle solver to appear on the challenge.
Mattie: Top 3 most physically imposing females to be cast behind Laural and Late career Emily. A lot of shit has been talked on here about her stamina. Just remember, wherever you have Mattie ranked on endurance Georgia needs to be behind her. Plus she ran like 16-20 miles on a sand dune and was keeping pace with Cara during that time. Most finals don't even have a course even close to as brutal as that final meaning she will do fine on every other final
Which of these teams deserves to be crowned The Challenge Fantasy Tournament’s Biggest Loser? You decide. But wait! There’s more! BONUS MATCH - Because it’s only fair that the last losers in each bracket get to compete, we are hosting a third-place match for the whole tournament. The runners up in the main bracket get to compete to see who will take home the bronze. While these teams don’t technically live in the redemption house, we’re glad they stopped by to visit just for today.
Winner’s Logic [u/SweatySpaghetti94] - did not provide logic, so I will do so for them
Wes Bergmann is currently moonlighting as a personable lumberjack. Once, he tricked Louise Hazel into thinking that he wasn’t good at running hurdles, but he was! That sly fox! He is one of the most politically savvy players in the game, and this user drafted him in his most physically dominant season. He knows how to mentor teammates, and he is great at getting deals done to even get to finals in the first place. His performance in finals will be as admirable as anybody’s, as he has the smarts, the strength, and the mental fortitude to handle any task.
Devin Walker has an interesting personality. Without him, “TYB” would just be Cory and Nelson. He once followed Bananas around the house for no reason other than to harass him! Lovely! He actually defeated Bananas in a lite brite elimination that same season. Aside from that… he encouraged Cheyenne to piss herself when they ran a final together. So, you can bet he’s a good teammate! He is fairly fit, certainly smart, and has no glaring weaknesses, but I wouldn’t call him the strongest guy to ever do it, not by a longshot.
Georgia Harrison has a cry face that’s made of nightmares. She is ridiculous at endurance, and she also has a lot of passion for competition, but she sometimes lets it get the better of her judgment (“It’s!! Sevennnnn!!!”). She had a showmance with Stephen Bear until he cheated on her with his cousin, at which point… their showmance continued. Georgia gassed out on the hardest final ever, but she had a really formidable rookie campaign on War of the Worlds, the season from which she’s competing today.
Dee Nguyen is loyal to a fault, but she seems to think that’s a good thing. She came into her first Challenge season not knowing how to swim, but after Wes taught her she quickly became a well-rounded competitor. She fell in love with a stripper and then believed his constant lies, won a season with him, and now despises him as she should. She definitely gains power from anger and resentment, but she has also shown that she can use moral support as fuel as long as she has the right person coaching her through it.
Derrick K may not be the smartest but he’s smart enough to play to his strengths and let his team take over his weaknesses. He won’t win a puzzle but he doesn’t need to and will not get in Avivs way. He has strength endurance and is a team player. He’s strong enough to carry his weight plus more but is light enough that his weight wouldn’t hinder his other competitors. He has no issues with eating challenges or swimming
Aviv Israeli military vet who is not afraid of a final She also is a puzzle master who helped Darrell win another final! Strength, endurance, brains. The whole package!
Tori Hall 2/3 team challenge wins (3/4 if you include road rules) whether her teams “should” have won or not, she showed she has endurance for finals and is a solid competitor. Also has a lot of determination and heart!
MJ University football athlete. Brain, brawn, endurance, no issues with eating challenges. A solid team player with no drama!
War of the Worlds 2 Final Description: Again, all three matches are competing in this final today. So base your votes off this description from… I’m not really sure who wrote this. I’ll just creditu/stayoutofthe-forestbecause they deserve to be credited for things they didn’t actually do as much as possible.
Stage 1: Both teams have a gurney with a relic and 20 pounds in sand bags for each team, 80 pounds total. They must complete four miles to each of four checkpoints, for a total of 16 miles.
Checkpoint 1: Use a catapult to put three coconuts into a basket
Checkpoint 2: Each individual competitor, presumptively without help from the other team members, must solve a math equation after determining numbers from a very large board of numbers.
Checkpoint 3: Each individual competitor must land a ball in a basket, with three attempts. If they cannot, they must eat a scorpion, some insects, and a live (!) grub worm.
Checkpoint 4: A triangle puzzle. They then must stay up overnight, sleeping in turns.
Stage 2: The winner of Stage 1 gets a five-minute advantage. The entire team is attached by chains around their ankles. They must run six miles before they reach a NINE PIECE TANGRAM. It is important to note how difficult a nine piece is. As CT noted, many competitors have practiced tangram puzzles before, but never a nine piece. If they can't solve it in five minutes, they move on. They then must kayak to a yacht. First to reach it wins.
Which of these teams will hoist the bronze in the MtvChallenge Fantasy Tournament? You get to pick! Vote for the third-place match and the loser’s bracket championship matches with THIS LINK! Voting ends at 10 PM EST on Thursday, February 20. It’s the last vote, so make it count!
The main thing for me will be people find one or two useful bits of info in this guide. Discount: £2 for 60 days of Premium membership to Heads&Heads. Discount code: BUILDUP Click the link to have the code automatically applied: https://headsandheads.co.uk/sign-up?discount=BUILDUP Timetable template for Cheltenham: https://headsandheads.s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/Cheltenham+Timetable+-+template.xlsx The most important thing is to get involved!
