(Or ruined it?) I know the title is hard to believe, but it is true. Even if I did waste too much of my life trading. Maybe this can be a little inspirational to someone here. Maybe some of you will think it is sad. During high school I was addicted to a MMORPG and played 40+ hours per week. I would trade/invest in different items in the game, eventually becoming well known within the game and one of the best. I would corner markets to the point that drop rates/rules were changed to stop me. I was well regarded and well respected within the game. People would ask my opinion on stuff, want to join my trades with me, etc. etc. In college I tried to distance myself from gaming, but my experience with trading virtual items made me see the potential in cryptocurrency early on. Junior year I turned $200 into $20k and cashed out $15k. Then senior year I turned the $5k remaining into $80k and cashed it out. This is all while I got straight A's in math, economics (majors), and physics (minor). But doing all of this together led to extreme burnout. When I did not apply to grad schools I felt like I was failing all my teachers. I "coasted" my last semester still managing all As but was so burnt out I didn't apply to any jobs. I started applying to a few once I graduated, but when none of them got back to me for months I felt like a complete and utter failure because I had always been such a perfectionist and always on top of my game. I didn't know how to fail. I eventually got an internship in the marketing department of a finance company. They would have me go stand in line to buy them lunch and stapled together their marketing material in an industry that was going through a rough patch. Meanwhile, a few of them mocked me for trading bitcoins (and traders in general) asking me if I had seen the price movement every large crash as it fell from like $400 to $200 over a few months. I do not have good social skills and couldnt make any friends or defend myself and my self esteem continued down. I managed to get a job in programming about a year after college but I was no expert in it. I felt like the worst person on the team and was treated like it. Extremely regimented days where I would meet with the boss every day and tell her exactly what I was doing and had to record everything in 15 min intervals. Most people had depression and burnout it seemed like, and I realized I did not like programming or working in an office, and started to contemplate suicide. Eventually I decided that I would travel the world for a year or two and then kill myself. That would be it. Maybe find a way to do it while travelling. So I quit and my family freaked out like crazy. Dad suggested I should become a baggage handler at the airport. Mom suggested to apply to anything and everything. Grandma suggested going to church. I just wanted to travel. Now my family saw me as a failure, in addition to my past employers and teachers. I was 24 and had about $170k saved up, and there I was believing I was a complete failure while wondering if I should take a min wage baggage handling job at the airport or just off myself. (Nothing against baggage handler or min wage, but it was so different from my my plans/studies) But then Bitcoin started to make a comeback and appeared to be entering another bubble cycle. I decided I would trade and while travelling see if I can make a year's worth of my old salary doing so. This was early 2017. Out of the $80k I cashed out of crypto a couple years earlier, I put $20k back in. In 2017 I was on top of my game. I had seen many bubbles play out before and I was going to trade it as perfectly as possible. I managed to turn the $20k into $1 million that year with no drawdowns over 20%. Completely killed it. Recognized it was overhyped in December and cashed most of it out. Made another few hundred k trading rebounds on the way down. Basically I was in "do or die" mode working upwards of 100 hour weeks analyzing everything. I had to basically prove to everyone (myself, my family, my last employers, friends who thought I was crazy, etc.) that I knew how to trade and the entire time I felt like my life was on the line with every trade. It was the most stressful year of my life. It was me vs the world and I put every ounce of energy into the battle. But I had done it - made $1M at age 25. Maybe this would be enough to stop the relentless depression and the self hate. I somehow convinced a bank to give me a loan to buy a house based on my trading record alone, and rented it out to roommates who pay for most of it. Spent some on a Tacoma that doesn't depreciate much. Spent a little more on travelling. Then i moved a large portion into stocks where I made a decent amount on Canadian weed stocks, a 30-40% rebound in REITs, and some others. All from strategies learned in crypto, which were modified from strategies learned in online gaming. I am very far from recovering from depression. And if you asked me now, I still do feel like a complete failure. Except for one thing - the time it was me vs the world and I won against all odds. I don't really know what to do to get my mental health better. But at least I am still here.

Payment is via sendmoney24.com) (Update 26 July 2020: I got progesterone, scroll down for details) so this is my experience, with as many details I can remember. i am a binary(ish?) trans woman, so obviously my experience will be different but they're apparently really good with gender diverse & non-binary folks too. I was also over 18 when I realised I was trans so if you're younger it's probably going to be very different.
I told my GP mid-April that I was trans and wanted to start HRT, she asked me for my preferred name (but actually updating my name in their system seems to be a different process that might be harder, I will ask her about it next time), and then sent in a referral to Auckland Sexual Health Services. if you're at uni, GP appointments there cost something like $20-25. something I didn't do at this point was reach out to local LGBT orgs & add myself to FB groups in retrospect I should have done this because throughout the whole process I felt really alone. either that or finding a therapist / counsellor to confide in. also ask your GP for a blood test form for your hormone levels so you have a baseline (ASHS will test them later on but you can't see it)
getting an appointment with ASHS took about 3-4 months. they will send a text to your phone 1-2 months and give you a list of possible appointment dates, then a confirmation text 1 month before the appointment asking whether you still want the appointment. spaces are really, really limited.
my appointment was in Greenlane, & with Dr Jeanie Oliphant. if you can't get a lift there look up multiple bus routes in advance, I very nearly fucked this up & missed my first appo.
in the first appointment - which like everything else is free - they will probably 1. give you a blood test form 2. ask if you want to freeze sperm 3. ask you some general questions about your sexual history, mental health background, how you experience being trans, etc., 4. discuss some possible hrt options 5. give you some forms to complete relating to fertility preservation
then they will schedule an appointment with a counsellor,. mine was in mangere which was a significantly long drive. they will make you do two appointments with the counsellor, the first 1 month after the 1st appo, and then the second a month after that. if your appointment is in the morning they might open 15-20 mins late, but maybe that was just the one time.
honestly i kind of did the 'cis baby talk' thing where i described my experience as a trans woman in the most unambiguous & stereotypical way possible to maximise the chance i'd get hrt, but in retrospect that was probably unnecessary. they're working on an informed consent model so don't worry about it i guess
you shouldn't be worried about how the counselling session will go, the office is kind of cramped & weird but it was very non-judgemental & the guy made it clear to me that the point of the sessions was evaluating mental health & managing expectations around hrt - not "decide whether or not she can have hrt". just be prepared to talk about yourself
the actual date I got the prescription for HRT was late December, so if you haven't processed your thoughts about your gender yet & you can't afford to go private then get a referral from your GP ASAP, do the processing in the meantime, & if you decide against it you can always cancel the appointment. this wait-time is shorter than other countries but it felt like a stupidly long time, especially because I hadn't found an antidepressant regimen that worked for me yet.
T-blockers: they offer you Lucrin injections, Zoladex implants, or cyproterone tablets. I went with the cyproterone (12.5mg a day), but I want to switch to Lucrin since it's apparently the gold standard.
estrogen: they offer you progynova tablets and estradot patches. they will start you on 50ug/day for patches and 2mg/day for tablets. push for higher amounts one month in, prescription guidelines say to start you on the lowest amount. with progynova tablets you can suck the coating off and dissolve it under your tongue which has 6x higher availability, but Dr. Powers' presentation said to start by taking it orally (swallowing it) to mimic the higher estrone (E1) levels (not E2, estradiol which is the pills & the patches) that girls have when they start puberty. I'm trying this
you can see the max amount subsidised here: https://www.pharmac.govt.nz/2020/02/01/Schedule.pdf. for estradot this is 100mcg day, two patches a week. for more of that, all I know is that the Greenlane Hospital pharmacy charges $55.10 for 24 (3 months supply = max they can give you) but other pharmacies charge more or less. You can google "pharmac estradot" for the pharmac cost, all the pharmacies mark up from that. for progynova you can get theoretically as much as you want, but the 2018 Guidelines for trans healthcare only go up to 6mg, but you can argue for 8mg by just saying you want to try it out - if you're young ask about the risks of deep vein thrombosis, that will kind of force your practitioner to do a mental risk/reward calculation that comes out favourably for you.
if they schedule another appointment in 3 months, your prescription probably won't last until then. Dr. Oliphant told me to text Jove the fax details of my local pharmacy or clinic to get a new prescription.
install a pill tracker alarm app to your phone to keep track of when to swap patches/take pills.
a month in ask your GP to give you a blood test. my e levels were super low & I wasn't absorbing anything from my patches (one 50ug/day patch, rotated every 3.5 days) when I placed them on my stomach, so I used micropore surgical tape I'd ordered from Aliexpress to tape down the edges securely (otherwise you get a lining of lint and hair and shit idk) & placed it on my bum instead of my stomach, which lead to less wrinkling. judging by my better mood this seems to have worked but I'm getting another test to see whether this made a difference or whether I'm just a non-responder to transdermal patches (???)

Got my dose increased to 6mg instead of 4 with absolutely no issue, didn't have to pay anything. Since I was also on boron it was more like 9mg? or 10mg? Dr Oliphant wrote a paper on trans healthcare that suggested going above this is unnecessary so I'm imagining I'll get resistance if I try to push the dose higher, but I'm planning on asking since there's no harm. Switching to sublingual: I switched to sublingual 5 days ago (and I should've done it earlier, my boobs were stuck at tanner 3.5 for a while). 1mg at 8am, 12pm, 4pm, 7pm, then oral at 10pm since I cbf. Someone recommended to crush them into powder but I found that unnecessary. Split them in two and it takes five. Pill cutters from Aliexpress are less than $4, they're a life-saver. Once you suck off the coating, they dissolve completely under your tongue in 14 minutes. The first time I did it, I swallowed a lot but it was a learnable skill and the longer you avoid swallowing the easier it becomes, what I do now is: swill water around in my mouth for 30 seconds to stop saliva production, don't put anything in and try to stop swallowing reflexively for 2-3 mins which means you'll get the reflexive swallowing over and done with, and then put the pill in and start doing ocused in-out deep breathing (I'm sure there are more tips, look up "how to stop reflexive swallow"). Since I got diagnosed with ADHD ritalin has made this 100x easier for some reason, could be partly salivation inhibition as a side effect, could be better focus and self-control. Maybe neurotypical people find this whole thing much easier. Overall changes: Okay I'm getting Boron: Obviously this is still experimental blah blah blah etc. etc., I got boron from iHerb like 4 months ago, I compared around 5-6 different sites with different shipping policies and a LOT of different brands and the cheapest per unit was [this](Now Foods, Boron, 3 mg, 250 Capsules) at 7.7c/capsule, realistically 23c a day (9mg was the point at which I got really noticeable breast tenderness w/o changing my e dose at all), currently it's Source Naturals Triple Boron since the other one is out of stock. I considered buying boron from Alibaba (USD$23/kg) which is literally a thousand times cheaper but that requires talking to people and negotiating and shit. Maybe a long-term option. If it goes well I will list the supplier I ordered from. EDIT: so according to this post, boron doesn't do much unless you're taking a lot of e already. check out their chart Progesterone: So I'm on the Genderbridge FB group (really should've joined ages ago) and there are at least two people who have managed to get utrogestan prescriptions from their GPs. A few more with progesterone creams. My GP said go to the specialists and the clinic said no. So I'm going to find someone else and if that's not possible I'll try get progesterone creams since amazon4health says 90% of unauthorised pills get caught. Not sure about vials. UPDATE ON PROGESTERONE: Oneroa Accident and medical ctr gives out progesterone. Make sure to speak to Dr Michael karetai or Dr Isla Karetai or Dr Margaret Karetai. They do phone consultations, $70 if you're not registered and you're over 18, details on their site, much lower if you have a community services card. Further update: Dr Margaret Karetai is the absolute best. If you have done the research, then she will trust you. Be clear about exactly what you want. She is very nice and I got utrogestan 200mg and bicalutamide 50mg!!!!!!!!!! Note: pharmacy costs vary a lot, ask for your utrogestan prescription to be faxed to your nearest Chemist Warehouse (cheapest option) since it's not subsidised. The two non-prescription EV sources I've interacted with that ship to NZ are Lena and otokonoko. Otokonoko is pricier but their shipping is faster and they do refunds if it doesn't get through customs. Regarding electrolysis and laser
If you're nearby I recommend Julie Martin for electrolysis. Electrology is kind of expensive, for her it's $90 for a 1 hour session if you can tolerate up to that much and it doesn't go that much lower. Apparently another option is combined electrolysis+laser, you start with laser, wait 6 wks, go to an electrologist and get whatever's left cleared away. Some laser places are doing a 50% discount right now, and they cheapen it if you pay for all your sessions at the same time upfront. Not sure, this might take longer overall, not sure about permanence.

I’m Australian, this isn’t meant to be an alarmist or sensationalist post, but the economic situation in our country is a lot more serious than most of us think. First off, the current economic situation. Simply put, our economy is fucked. Our housing market is dangerously overleveraged and because of policies by our government at the time, we never experienced the correction the US and most of the rest of the world did during the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. And now the chickens are coming home to roost. Australians are up to their eyeballs in debt, almost half of the housing loans are interest only, it’s the reason the Reserve Bank of Australia hasn’t raised the interest rates since 2016. Because as soon as they do, even by 0.01%, tens of thousands of Australians are going to default on their mortgages. It’s no secret that our housing market is one of the most expensive in the world, and anyone living in our country already knows this. The market value of Australian homes is 4 times the GDP of the country. Our housing market is beyond the point of saving and the bubble is about to pop. And while our mainstream media is trying to convince us that it will deflate slowly, history paints a different picture. And that’s just the start of our problems. It’s no secret that China is our biggest trading partner. We rely on China more than any other developed country in the world. And what is currently happening on the greater global stage? Our most important military ally has engaged in a trade war with China, and the effects of that trade war are starting to be felt. Chinese stocks are in freefall, and that’s only going to be the beginning of the negative effects from Trump’s hardline approach to dealing with China. It doesn’t take a genius to see that this is going to have a devastating effect on our economy. Commodities prices are down. Our manufacturing sector is almost dead. The only thing we have going for us at the moment is agriculture and that can’t prop up the entire economy. You wanna turn white? Our country is in serious economic trouble. And we don’t know shit about it because our media is a duopoly that makes most of its money from their real estate arms. All signs are pointing to our dollar about to be worth a hell of a lot less than it currently is. What can we do? Since this is the crypto subreddit the solution to this impending economic shitstorm should be painfully obvious. Buy fucking Bitcoin. Not the solution for the country, for you. The country isn’t going to do shit for anyone of us except saddle us with debt and a cooked economy that is going to take generations to get out of, if ever. So we should be diversifying. Sure buying gold probably isn’t a stupid idea either, but if you think that is proof against state intervention, read a history book. Even then, gold still needs to be converted into cash to be useful, and anyone paying attention can see that Australia is gearing up for a war on cash that borders on tyrannical. The only way for us as individuals to protect our wealth at the moment is to convert it into cryptocurrency. But Bitcoin is low at the moment! No shit. But if you think it’s going to stay that way you are 1. In the wrong subreddit, and 2. No paying attention to the macro factors of crypto. Wall St is gearing up to enter. The bank that runs the world is getting involved. And not just American banks. Bitcoin may be low now but if you know anything about market cycles, you know that it’ll be back. Here is a good comparison of BTC a few years ago as opposed to now. It’s almost at the point where it’s irresponsible not to be buying bitcoin, and I’m not the only one that holds this opinion. Worst case scenario, bitcoin falls to USD 3k. What do you think is going to happen after that? Bitcoin and crypto aren’t going anywhere and you’re kidding yourself if you think that the value of bitcoin isn’t going to be much higher in the years to come. Of course the RBA is telling people that Bitcoin is dead, probably because they don’t want Australians to dump their soon to be worthless fiat currency. In fact one any given day you’ll see a bunch of anti-crypto propaganda on our MSM. The same MSM that has been telling us all to buy as many houses as we can for the last 20 years. The same MSM that up until now hasn’t said shit about the direction our economy is heading in. The writing’s on the wall people. If we keep our wealth in AUD it’s going to be worth considerably less sooner rather than later. Our property sector is going to crash, our dollar is going to crash, our personal wealth is going to be stripped away from us. If you want to avoid this, if you want to protect your wealth, ensure a future that isn’t financial hardship, then we really only have one choice. Buy bitcoin. Personally I am converting half my pay each week into BTC and just holding it. Not putting it into alts. Just btc. I’d advise you do the same as well. I understand that this sounds super risky. But if you read the articles I’ve linked to in this post I’m sure you’ll see that the only risky move is doing nothing. This isn’t a joke or a false alarm. The notion that our economy has always been fine up until now isn’t valid anymore. If you want to protect your personal wealth and purchasing power in the next few years, you really should be buying as much btc as you can while it is this low. This is what crypto is for, avoiding the negative financial downturns of specific countries. It’s a globally traded commodity that is accessible by anyone with a computer. Our economy tanking isn’t going to affect the price one bit. I hope some of this has been useful. Listen to me, don’t listen to me, it’s your choice. Will NANO be too little too late - or is it just what it needs to be.
This is not FUD before I start, just something that has been going through my mind as someone who has been invested since the days of RaiBlocks, and believed in NANO enough to passed a fair amount of purchasing time on BitGrail (fortunately without loss) and is in no way angry about the current state of the market. So ...profits and price aside, I want to talk about the actual adoption of NANO. In the early stages of the 2017 rush the concept of black-lattice and instant fee-less transactions was such a strong selling point for a coin at a time when both the Bitcoin and Ethereum networks were starting to lag, pre-lightning and with so many coins and so many promises, what we were being given by the NANO team was strong, and regardless of technical hiccups with exchange wallets and the BG fiasco, it was easy to look past that and see the strengths of the company. The problem is, that as we start to look at the longevity of projects in 2018 and double down on strong investments with a future and discard those that we feel may not make it through the next few years, I ask myself if NANO will offer something that other coins will not. "It's instant and fee-less" we shout ay any doubters, ...so let's just look at those two points a moment. INSTANT - How important is Instant. I deposited NANO on Binance the other day and it took ages to show up like 3 hours of ages. This is not the fault of NANO, this is the way Binance receives the funds in a pool then separates them out ...well, that is what I gathered by following the trail ...did I care, no, took 3 hours. Paying with my Visa card is Instant ...still takes 3 days for the funds to actually show as having left my account ...hasn't stopped mass adoption, why? Simple, the merchant is 'guaranteed payment within 10 seconds and that is all you need. You see, a BTC transaction may as we know take from 10-30 mins on a good day, but that does not stop it being the most popular "accepted here" coin, why? because it is the one owned by the greater majority ...AND most importantly, the moment you send that transaction the receiver knows that although it might take 30 mins to arrive in their wallet, it is on it's way, the funds were there to be sent and not you or anyone else (with the exception of a cataclysmic solar flare scenario) can stop it. So is INSTANT that important ...it is cool, ..3o minutes is not, but a coin that can do it in 5 seconds (Stellar Lumens) or anything under a minute (insert your favourite coin here) covers those bases. FEE-LESS - Ok, when looking at BTC fees, or the annoyance of GWEI, GAS or any other coin that might mean upon trying to make a transaction you are told you cannot because you do not have enough of the asset required to perform the action ...this is not something that will score many points in the global currency race ...but are we really convinced that NANO is the only coin to be able to achieve this. IOTA of course already does and whilst it is not marketing itself in any way along these lines, I do not doubt others will come along (a high chance they may even be forks of NANO) that do all that NANO offers and a lot more. As users, do we really care so much if an awesome and all powerful coin, eco-system or network comes along that again like Stellar (not a shill, just a continual useful example) has a very small nominal fee that you really don't feel ...will NANO continue to be alone in this space. Where that leaves me is that last week I sold a huge chunk of my NANO holdings for one specific purpose, to watch the market drop and buy back in and increase my holdings ...my instinct was correct, and although I feel I could wait even longer for greater gains, I have surpassed by 10-15% marker, and now at over 20% gains common sense overrules greed and it is time to get back ....but as I am about to do so, ...I question for the first time as we sail through Q3 2018, if by Q3 2019 (when I personally think price and adoption will start to move significantly forwards again) if we at NANO will be offering enough unique selling points to the market to ride that wave. I watched an advert for Crypterium today (not linking to it because I can save you the time - another promise if instant sending of crypto to friends even who have no wallet - but the experienced can see through it in an instant for what it is - DYOR) ...and whilst I cringed, I also knew deep down that it will be offerings like this (albeit with better marketing departments) which will make Average Joe take the plunge ....and will he care about how the NANO boys weathered FUD, BG, the market of 2018, were the first to be fee-less ..etc. etc. ...of course not, he will not give a sh*t. So ...my faithful fellow NANites ...do not do what the people at REQ did earlier in the year when I made a similar post to discuss the future of their coin (they told me if I didn't like it I could p*ss off because I was wrong and knew nothing and probably got burned - I hadn't, I did sell however and took profits, and have resisted the temptation to go back and say hi recently) - instead tell me why you think we have a fighting chance over the next couple of years or DISCUSS (courteously and with respect of the opinions of others please) if these thoughts I express had not also crossed your minds.
