Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United started the new season pretty badly after a 3:1 home defeat against Crystal Palace. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side put a very poor display, and a lot of work is ahead of the Norwegian manager. It seems that the Red Devils failed again to produce a productive transfer window, as they signed just Donny van de Beek. Several names circulate around the club, but it is questionable how much they can improve the squad. The home side managed to book their first victory against Brighton last weekend, but only after a stoppage-time penalty that Bruno Fernandes converted. They faced the same opponent in a mid-week EFL Cup clash and were much more confident with a 3:0 win. If the hosts want to challenge the very top of the table, they need to improve significantly in the coming weeks.
Tottenham Hotspur is pretty unpredictable at the beginning of the new season. They also opened the campaign with a narrow 1:0 defeat against Everton and got back on the winning track after trashing Southampton 5:2. However, they failed to a late draw against Newcastle United and dropped two points. Everybody thought that Jose Mourinho’s side would lose against Chelsea in the EFL Cup, but the Spurs managed to see their way through the next round after a penalty shootout. Harry Kane and the lads played against Maccabi Haifa just 48 hours later in the Europa League qualifiers and managed to book a confident 7:2 victory. Another tough challenge is ahead of them, and we will see if they have enough strength to put another good display.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

Although Manchester United doesn’t seem very confident at the start of the season, we believe they can benefit from Tottenham’s tight schedule. They have a couple of days more to prepare for this game, and they should be able to take all three points.

Goals Market Prediction

Their head to head clashes have usually been pretty moderate in terms of the total number of goals. Jose Mourinho should apply a bit more defensive approach, but we still should be able to see goals in both nets.

Manchester United vs Crystal Palace Betting Tips

Once again, the home side is going to challenge for the Premier League title, the first one after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. The Red Devils were not too successful in the title hunt in previous seasons, and this time, they want to be as much competition as possible. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed to lift the team after a disappointing first half of the latest campaign and launch it to the 3rd spot. Man Utd hasn’t been too active on the transfer market, but they brought Donny van de Beek, who should be an impactful signing for the hosts. The home side needs to keep winning as many points as possible at Old Trafford since, in the previous season, they spilled too many of them on draws.
Crystal Palace managed to win in the season-opener against Southampton at the home ground. Although they didn’t have much of the game, Wilfried Zaha’s winner in the first 15 minutes of the clash secured the first three points for the Palace. The away side had a decent campaign last season, but they were in a terrible form after the break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Roy Hodgson’s side had a lot of troubles finding the oppositions’ back of the net as they were the second most inefficient team in the competition. They are in a bad streak when playing away from home since the Palace lost four times in a row. We are eager to see if they can cause an upset and remain undefeated at Old Trafford.

Full-Time Winner Odds & Prediction

Manchester United is a firm favorite in this clash, and everything except their victory would be a surprise. We believe they will meet the expectations, and the Red Devils should snatch all three points from this game.

Goals Market Prediction

Crystal Palace managed to score against Man Utd at Old Trafford in just one match out of the last seven. Therefore, we believe that the hosts might keep the clean sheet once again.

The Monday After: Thursday Edition GW35-36

Hey guys,
It’s been a few weeks of premier league madness since the last ‘Monday After’ post. Hopefully you all managed to get through the doubles unscathed and out the other side with a green arrow! As the hysteria dies down, we look towards GW36 with fresh eyes, a fresh team (for those who recently used their WC) and still loads of points to play for. So this post is going to highlight the teams we should have in our thoughts, the teams we definitely shouldn’t, and what to do with the Triple Captain Chip for those that are still to use it.
Here’s my team and OR update. After GW34 I had 2 suspended players, 2 Brighton defenders and no Sterling. To fix these issues I decided to gamble on a huge -12 that didn’t quite pay off. Foster lost out on a clean, whereas Ryan managed a goalless draw against Wolves. Eriksen scored the only goal against Brighton whereas Sterling managed just an assist. So I’m actually 16 points worse off than I would’ve been! A calculated risk but a risk all the same. I’m not down and out just yet, though. My OR is just over 2k.
If you’re interested, I use my twitter to go over all of my transfer ideas, fixture planning processes, captaincy options and thoughts on FPL news. I’m quite active and my DMs are open so if you’re looking for more info than just these posts, you know where to find me!
Here’s some useful links that help me write-up these TMA posts:
Premier League Fixtures – A great way to line up the fixtures for the specific gameweeks you want to see. Orders the teams from best fixtures to worst.
Player Analysis by Performance – Amazing tool that compares every player based on Shooting, Creativity and Attacking involvement. Options for looking at any combination of teams too.
Player stats per Game – Great for looking at team stats per player for Offensive and Defensive plays. Also shows heat maps!
Teams to Look At
Liverpool - Every week that goes by I wish more and more for the chance to own 4 or 5 Liverpool players in my team. There are so many great options and I want them all! Sadly, we can only have three, and because we're so close to the end of the season, the ones we choose now will probably be with us until the end, for better or worse. Salah (13.2) is still the highest priced player in the league, but his current ownership % is nearly half that of teammate Mane (10.0), who has been playing extremely well, particularly at home. With his slump now over, however, Salah is quite enticing for a home game against relegated Huddersfield, but if his cost is just too much for your team without taking hits, then maybe it’s best to stick with Mane. For less than the cost of Salah, you could get Robertson (6.8) and TAA (5.6) in your team, which may actually be a better choice than two attackers based on how consistent they’ve recently been in defence. The only caveat in that is the rotation before the Champions League games. Trent and Robbo did look quite tired during the last match, so you could opt for Van Dijk (6.6) instead for the guaranteed starts. Last but not least, we have Firmino (9.3), who in the last 3 games has been 2nd highest striker for Shots, Shots on Target and Chance Creation. He’s first for Key passes too. If you can’t afford Salah, and have cash to spare for a striker, he is always an option. Maybe not captain-able over the midfielders, but a decent option none-the-less.
Man City - With the Champions League out the way, and another KDB injury, it’s actually easier than ever to predict the Man City line up. Sterling (11.6) has played every game in recent weeks and continues to return for his owners with no signs of slowing up. Aguero (11.8) is much the same as he’s been all season: Played when fit. The only difference now is he isn’t getting subbed at 60 mins. Bernardo Silva (7.6) continues to improve and has looked good recently, getting into the box more, and taking more shots than he usually does. Could be an option for those looking to triple up in City attack. Other attackers are less nailed and so may be worth avoiding so close to the end of the season, but Ederson (5.6) has played out of his mind recently and deserves a look in here for those wanting a way into the City defence. He's managed save and bonus points due to his efficiency between the sticks, and is the main reason for the Cityzen's recent cleansheets. Other options include Laporte (6.1), the DGW God, who has a bit more attacking threat for half a million more than the Goal Keeper. Mendy (6.1) is unfortunately still a rotation risk and should be kept at arms length. If you’ve got nothing to lose, though, he might be fun to own. You could even get Alonso in as well for a Holy Trinity reunion.
Wolves - If City win the FA Cup, 7th place means a Europa League spot (I think!). Wolves are currently sitting in 7th, exactly 1 point ahead of Watford who they play next. We all know what happened to Burnley this year with Europe troubles, but a newly promoted team getting European football is surely an amazing achievement worth fighting for. Wolves have two good fixtures before playing LIV in GW38, so those with just one asset could think about bringing in a few more. The usual suspects are still contenders for your starting XI: Jimenez (6.9) is highly owned and is still a rank killer despite his recent dip in form. Jota (6.2) has came leaps and bounds since the start of the season and has been giving it his all these last few games. Passes the eye test and has amazing stats to back it up. He’s some player! Doherty (5.3) has been playing well recently, managing to get on the end of a set piece for his goal against Arsenal, but more importantly kept a clean sheet against Brighton! If you don’t already have him, though, it may be best to go for Jonny (4.3) who’s been showing some real promise these last few games. One to consider if you aren’t feeling like holding on to a Dunk or Duffy. The rest of the Wolves midfield are a bit hit and miss, and with so many decent ways to spend your money, it may be best to look elsewhere.
Everton - What a turnaround ending to their season! We all ditch Everton, casting them to the fire, and they rise like extremely frustrating phoenixes that we wish could have started this incredible form before we got rid of them. But then if that happened it wouldn’t be FPL, would it? Regardless of the past, their recent form surely must be considered. Despite his recent knock, Digne (5.3) is set to play this weekend and looks like the best asset on the team. Set pieces, clean sheet potential, loves a cross and loves a goal. What more can you ask for? A better GW38 fixture maybe, but with Spurs potentially locked in 3rd place by GW38, it shouldn't be a terrible match up. Siggy (7.3) is another player in form, and has found the consistency we’ve been waiting for all season: 6 returns in 8 games. With Richarlison (6.4) flagged for injury, our Siggurdsson will be looked to as the teams main goal threat, and hopefully won’t be dampened by Richarlison’s absence. Either way, he’s been a monster lately and you could do a lot worse than grabbing him for the last 3 games of the season.
Teams to be Wary of
Tottenham - Spurs are currently in a great position. They’re sitting in 3rd, 3 points ahead of 4th place Chelsea. They’re unable to catch Liverpool and City, but they have much better fixtures than Chelsea and Manchester United (6th) who play each other in GW36. They also have better fixtures than 5th place Arsenal who play Leicester away and Brighton who are fighting to stay in the top flight. The only difficult fixture for Spurs is Everton, but like I said above, with a win against West Ham and Bournemouth, 3rd place will be confirmed before the Everton game even starts. So what does this mean for FPL? It means uncertainty. It means rotation. If it wasn’t for a few injuries and a suspension, I’d wager that no Spurs attacker was safe from a benching against West Ham considering they have just two days to rest before Ajax on Tuesday. As it stands, we know that due to his yellow card against City, Son (8.8) won’t be playing in the first round of the Semi Final, so he’s safe for now. Eriksen has played 90 minutes in every game since GW20, so he should be okay too (we hope). Every other player has been rotated often enough to be concerned, so keep this in mind if you’re planning on transferring anyone in. There is definitely points to be had with Spurs assets, we should just be wary of who we’re choosing.
Man Utd - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ‘New Manager, New United’ hype is now officially dead. The 4-0 loss was hard to watch, and the defensive errors leave very little to be desired. Add in the rotation we’ve seen in the last few games and Man United have now become an FPL minefield. With only the Chelsea game to show improvement before their tasty fixtures in GW37 and 38, we may have to just avoid the Red Devils altogether. We can usually count on Huddersfield and Cardiff to botch their attempts on goal, though, so if you really want a piece of the Man Utd action, you could wait for GW37 and then go for a cheeky punt on Shaw (5.0) or Lindeloff (5.0) perhaps. Just don’t go selling the whole farm for under performing, lowly owned players who’ll just end up hurting your rank. We’ll reassess after Chelsea.
Leicester - Now I know this may be controversial, but I’m not sure that Vardy (9.0) does like playing against the bigger teams. He certainly has played well against the top 6 in years past, but in this season his ratio of returns against bottom teams vs top teams shows a Vardy who loves pushing around the little guy. We haven’t seen Rodgers take on the big dogs either, so that coupled with the huge price tag; I don’t think I’d want to own Vardy much longer. Arsenal’s horrible defensive form is pretty enticing I’ll admit, but after that it may be a good idea to look for another way to spend your cash. I don’t think I need to mention Leicester defenders here, and other than Vardy, there isn’t much to say about other attacking assets. Not worth taking hits to get rid of anyone before the Arsenal game, but certainly plans to move them to other assets might be worth while.
Plans And Strategies
Triple Captain Chip - What a headache! At least with our Wild Card and Bench Boost we knew roughly when to use them, but the TC can be such a minefield! It’s a good time as any to remember to be mindful that a captain can always blank despite the odds, and we shouldn’t be too disheartened if the TC doesn’t pan out (RIP Sane GW25). Having said that, let’s take a look at the options. You’ll notice I’ve only highlighted Liverpool or Man City, and that’s because I feel that they have the highest ceiling for points this close to the end of the season and with such a close title race.
Mane/Salah home vs HUD (GW36)
Sterling away vs BUR (GW36)*
Aguero/Sterling home vs LEI (GW37)
Aguero/Sterling away vs BRI (GW38)**
*No Aguero due to poor away form
**Only if BRI are already safe/relegated
Any of these games has the potential for big hauls, but just know that the vast majority are going to be picking Mane/Salah vs HUD for GW36. It’s the best fixture on paper and a must win game for the Reds. If you’re looking to stay the course and coast through on a similar OR to what you have now, then maybe your best bet is to follow the pack so as not to fall behind. If you’re looking to get ahead and need a differential pick, even picking GW37 or 38 would provide an opportunity to jump up in the rankings, but only if GW36 turns out to be a dud. It’s a risk that could pay off big or see you fall even further back than you are now. Good luck!
End of Season Guide - A few key points kept cropping up while writing this article today, so I’d thought I’d include them in case it’s useful to know. First off, hits are a lot more costly now, as the players you bring in only have 3 games to recoup the loss of the -4 + player transferred out. It’s important to add this to your calculations whenever you’re doing a pro/con on a transfer between now and the end of the season. If possible, avoid hits even more than usual. Second, please keep in mind that the teams fighting to avoid relegation are going to be much tougher to beat. Sounds like an obvious tip, but a lot of the time we glace at the fixtures without really checking who is where in the league and what we should expect. Games like Arsenal vs Brighton or Cardiff vs Crystal Palace in GW37 are now no longer easy to call in favour of the top half team. Brighton showed us against Spurs that they are willing to do whatever they can to stay in the premier league. Cardiff, Brighton and Southampton should all be playing much better than their current table placing suggests, so remember this when thinking about Captain options and potential transfers. Lastly, the exact opposite effect can take place on teams no longer fighting for anything. Keep in mind that teams already ‘on the beach’ might be more inclined to take it a little easier at the end of the season, so bringing in their assets can turn out a little frustrating. It’s always best to target players who still have something to lose!
And that’s a wrap! Good luck out there with your GW36 picks. We’ve not got long left to go now so it’s one final push to cement that OR you’re hoping for, or a few weeks of punts if you’re already miles behind and just going to have a laugh from here on out. As always, thank you so much for reading, and following these posts! There is a tonne of amazing, encouraging managers in this sub and it makes such a huge difference when making content. Without the feedback in my first few posts, I might not have continued, so cheers guys. You’re all awesome!

The Monday After: Thursday Edition GW15-16

Hey guys,
Well that was fucking brutal, eh? A thousand players rested, every cleansheet destroyed, plans out the window, couple of injuries and some red cards sprinkled on top. Only a few stars were shining in an otherwise steamy pile of shit. I'm not even sure how to tackle GW15. Last time in the series I wrote a ‘Winter Special’ looking at every team, examining their fixtures and players to watch. I also had a quick look at some strategies and plans I’ve seen starting to form for the winter, so check that out if you didn’t get a chance. It should still be quite relevant, despite the madness this week.
Here’s my team and OR in case you’re wondering. My transfers saved the day this week: Kane, Fabianski and D.Silva (-4) grab 36 points between them, whereas Aguero, Allison and Mane return a total of 3. Richarlison and Fabianksi brought home the bacon, while Hazard and Doherty returned for the team as well. I had three players with 0 points though, so a red arrow for me this week, but a much smaller one than I would have thought. Sitting at 3710 going into GW16.
This week on The Monday After we’re back to normal, albeit on a Thursday. I’ll be going over a few teams who I think need a closer inspection going into GW16, as well as players we should be considering. I’ve also decided to keep the ‘strategies and plans’ section, which this week will cover some of the specific questions that’ll be circulating for the rest of the week. I’ve been posting some extra ideas/advice on my twitter so you can catch me there as well if you’re interested.
Right! Enough with the lotion. Let’s do this.
Teams To Look At
West Ham – Arnie (7.2) is finally injured. He’s been fucking us about all season, but this time he’s staying down. We don’t know the full extent, but he’s out at least until January. So in the meantime we can rely on Felipe Anderson (7.2) to grab some goals in the next few weeks. Snodgrass (5.3) has done well in the last two games, with impressive stats and 3 assists. Might be a decent punt! As for other strikers, Chicharito (6.2), Lucas (6.2) and now Carroll (5.4), who scored in his first game of the season, should probably be avoided until we can determine who’s taking what place. Chich has been playing regularly so if you want a sideways swap, he’s your best bet. But he isn’t exactly a player that screams consistency, and his stats aren’t great. It’s a “meh” from me. Loads of managers are already brining him in and he may increase tonight. West Ham are still going through amazing fixtures right now, so it would be good if we had options, but only Anderson shines out now that Arnie’s out for December.
Tottenham – It was quite daunting going into GW16 knowing how poorly Spurs did in GW14, but Kane (12.5) and friends hauled ass against Southampton, winning comfortably. Tripper (6.1) has trolled all his owners with the only cleansheet in the game this week, but only got it ‘cause he went off with another injury. We’ll need to see how that plays out in next few days. Poch said it wasn’t as bad as it seemed so there’s hope at least. Interestingly enough, Eriksen (9.2) managed a few corners even with Tripp on the pitch, which was a worry beforehand. This makes Eriksen a lot more enticing; especially with the defender possibly out with another boo-boo. Alli (8.9) was rested, but so was everyone else so don’t kneejerk him out. He’s sure to start with Son (8.4) the more likely to get benched. Overall a great start to the fixture run, but we’ll need to wait for news before picking up a Spurs defender.
Wolves – Proven that they can be both shite and amazing only 4 days apart, we can confirm that these guys should be kept in our teams through their iffy fixtures. Most managers who benched their Wolves assets had them come into the team with a little something extra. Doherty (5.0) returns points despite a missed cleansheet for the second time in a row, and Jimenez (6.0) now has 10 returns in 15 games. You could do worse right now, and the fixtures alternate between bad and good quite nicely. With a solid bench our Wanderers assets should continue to do well for us. If you don’t have any yet, they still offer extremely good value, so you’ve not missed the train on these guys by a long shot. Better late than never!
Teams To Be Wary Of
Chelsea – What a shitshow this week. With a pretty standard line up, apart from a few rested here and there, Chelsea should have dominated against Wolves. Loftus-Cheek (5.2) found the back of the net with help from the opposition’s noggin, but apart from that there wasn’t much to write home about. They were awful at the back; Christensen (5.0) and Alonso (7.1) were the most horrendous defensive partners I’ve watched in ages; had no idea where they were supposed to be. Hazard (11.0) scraped some points this week, and his stats were okay, but holders of the Belgian will be glad Chelsea only have 1 difficult game in the next month. They’re gonna need to do something quick because they are underperforming and it’s very frustrating. Let’s avoid bringing Blue’s players in for the time being. Hazard and Alonso owners might as well stick it out now and see how they get on after Man City.
Leicester – A few weeks ago I wrote that these guys should probably be let go due to the poor team form and horrible fixtures. In the time since Pereira (5.1) managed to grab 3 clean sheets and Maddison (6.8) has scored 2 goals. But when you actually watch Leicester play, they just look off. One week they’re playing okay and the next they’re playing like an old man who doesn’t remember where he is. Now with TOT, che and MCI in the next 4, I would probably consider using the value you’ve made on these guys to upgrade to other players. The Foxes’ fixtures don’t pick up again until GW27 where they go on a fantastic run for 9 games, but if you aren’t a patient manager, you’re probably not waiting around until GW27, right?
Plans And Strategies
Arnie Replacement – This is the final straw in our relationship with Arnautovic. We’ve been patient, but enough is enough. He has to go. Arnie’s already dropped in price since last night and there’s a lot more games to miss in December if you’re planning on keeping him, which I hope you aren’t. So who do we swap him out for? There are a few good posts I’ve read on this sub and twitter today and they all agree on the same contenders. Wilson, (7.0) who despite his bad fixtures, has managed to consistently return points and is now the best scoring value player in the game. Form over fixtures is evident here and he’s already made me look a fool this season so what the fuck do I know. Players scoring against the odds don’t really compute, but if you’re wanting on that Bournemouth train now is the time! Many managers have done the same, with 39.3% ownership. Next in line would probably be Mitrovic (6.6). He has great fixtures after Man Utd in GW16 and Fulham seem to be much better since swapping managers. A proven goal scorer, he wouldn’t be considered a poor choice by anyone unless they are particularly slow. He’s also a tad cheaper. I’ve also seen a fair few managers going for 2 premium forwards for the first time since the start of the season. Kane (12.5) and an arsenal striker seem to be the flavour of the month, but his will cost you a premium midfielder and most likely a hit. So it’s a bit risky, but there isn’t a better way into the arsenal attack than through Auba (11.2) or Lacazette (9.6).
Other than these options there isn’t much else to look at in the same price bracket as Arnie, but you could take this opportunity to change your structure up a bit. Going for a budget striker instead like Jimenez or Success gives you funds to upgrade your midfield, potentially a City or Spurs midfielder, or even helps to add some value back into your bench. So a lot to think about!
Liverpool’s Rest Week – Liverpool played a B team last night and most of us suffered for it. It’s not an indication of Liverpool’s strategy going forward because the Reds won’t be playing Burnley every week, but they did show they have a little bit of depth about them. Robertson’s (6.5) dead leg should be revived soon, so no worries there, and with Gomez (5.1) out for a while, Lovren (4.9) and TAA (5.3) are less of a rotation risk now. These guys offer a cheap alternative to Robertson and Van Dijk (6.1), and will return similar points. As for forwards, Salah (13.0) played just 24 mins last night so he’ll be all set for Bournemouth. If you have him and are thinking about transferring him out, you could get away with holding him until City’s harder fixtures are out of the way. Mane (9.8) is looking a wee bit injured and arguably not at his best, so you can swap him out to your hearts content. Shaqiri (7.0) will be a decent replacement if he’s injured long term.
Rotation of other premiums – So I’ve been asked a lot about squad rotation, and whether this player or that player is going to play. I even saw a post asking if we should sell Kane! This is fucking madness lads and it’s got to end. Through December and January there will only be a select few players who AREN’T rested. Everyone else will sit on the bench at least once. Have you ever seen The Incredibles when the wee ginger arsehole grows up to hate the super powered guys and starts inventing weapons to make everyone super? He uses the line “When everyone’s super, no one will be". This is the exact same shit here in FPL! If everyone is going to be rested at some point then we don’t need to worry about it. Everyone has the same risk unless you’re taking a 1 week punt. Sterling (11.5) will probably play next week. Sane (9.4) might not. This doesn’t mean you should swap Sane out, it means your bench needs to be ready to come on to do some fucking damage! Let’s be clear though; there’s a difference between congested fixture rotation and rotation risk. If your player was getting rotated before December, then there’s a good chance they’ll stay like that. But if not, let’s just put our knees quietly back into place and calm the fuck down.
Wilson and Fraser – I feel like I write about these two every week. Each game week that passes I think they’ll eventually stop returning and we’ll need transfer them out so let’s just get out now before the well dries up. Yet they keep doing their thing, week after week and I feel like a tit. It’s somewhat frustrating for players that play the fixtures, but for the Form Over Fixtures managers, you’ll be laughing all the way to the bank. I just want you to know that we are beyond stats and patterns now with Wilson and Fraser. We’ve entered a universe we haven’t been to since Leicester won the league. A universe where rhyme and reason don’t exist, only chaos and uncertainty. For those that are jumping on for the ride, I salute you. It’s too much excitement for me, but I wish you all well. As a young chaotician once said: “Bournemouth finds a way”. Good luck!
Aubameyang Vs Lacazette – This is going to be something that rages on well into the season, so I’ll be brief. The stats are very similar between the two, but Auba (11.2) has scored more goals with less shots. The general consensus is this conversion ratio has happened before with him, but he may still be slightly over performing. Lacazette (9.6) is cheaper which is cool but hasn’t started in a few matches. If he does start, Aubameyang will still most likely play, just out on the wing. That hasn’t really affected his goal scoring ability so don’t be too worried about that. He has lost his place before, but Arsenal fans agree that he should be nailed on for now, and that’s what you’re paying an extra 1.6m for. No one can predict 100% who will start and who will be doing better in the next few weeks, so just go with who you think will be best for your team. Or just go with Kane and avoid the whole mess entirely.
And that's a wrap! Hopefully that gives a rough overview for between now and Saturday. I wanted to say thank you very much for reading and following the series as it progresses. I've had a lot of positive feedback and I really do appreciate you guys reading and commenting every week. So cheers! Shout out to u/Jurkenit who suggested the name for the post. With prices changing insanely fast right now it might actually be better to do your transfers sooner rather than later. Don’t miss out on your players by waiting - we don’t have long until the next lot of fixtures! Just 2 days and we get to do it all over again. Fucking love this time of year. Good luck lads!

Summer Transfer and Rumour Megathread 2017

ATTENTION

I've hit the character limit here, this will now serve as a place for official actions by the club and an archive for the old rumours. You can check out the new rumour thread here.

Hey all, it’s that magical time of year again, and Shakespeare is on the hunt for some new foxes. I am making this thread to try to keep up with all the transfers and rumours, as well as give everyone a place to discuss transfer related topics. I’m going to be borrowing unabashedly plagiarizing from last year’s model a lot (a quick thank you to lgfualol and company).
Also, as the lcfc beta website was just put up, there isn’t much news about anything as I’m writing this.
At the moment I have a lot of free time at work as well as at home so hopefully I can keep up but I will also appreciate any help you provide staying up to date with the speculation and whatnot.
So, firstly and very importantly, Craig Shakespeare was appointed manager on a 3-year deal on 15 June.
Michael Appleton has been named the club's assistant coach.

INNOCENT POSSUM'S PICKS:

Happy New Year, everyone! Hopefully we can kick off 2017's soccer betting with a bang! I am going BIG again, due to my win on Boxing Day. As a general rule of thumb, I keep betting big until I lose. From experience, the wins come in waves. You have to ride the wave while the momentum is still there. Once the wave fades, it's time to dial the stakes back.
I will be updating this thread to show when I am cashing out: https://www.reddit.com/InnocentPossumsPicks/comments/5lhxjh/020117_monday_cashout_thread/

EPL Quick Breakdown 4/13

Soccer is one of the least predictable DFS options out there. And as a sport that truly mixes and matches their lineups each week depending upon matchups, injuries and suspensions, you truly have no idea who will suit up and play each week until an hour or so before the game begins.
It’s this lack of clarity over who will play and at what position that makes individual projections quite silly in my mind. Someone could be a wonderful or terrible play depending on where the coach decides to play them and whom else is on the field with him at the same time. For this reason, I won’t be talking about individual players very often but mostly just breaking down the overall situation. I also won’t get too specific for numbers. If goals can only be scored in even numbers, then the difference between a team scoring .8 goals vs .9 is simply a rounding error and meant to imply they will have a tough time scoring, that’s really all you need – beyond that and you’re deep into meaningless noise.
HUD @ TOT
This match has the highest implied goal total of 3.2 and the highest overwhelming favorite of -550 Tot. Tottenham is at home and vs a horrible team. However, 38% of bets are still on Huddersfield despite they have less than 1 implied goal. This could have a lot to do with the line sitting around +1500 so I wouldn’t read too much into this betting behavior. It’s also possible a lot of the action is based on Harry Kane’s recent injury.
Regardless of Kane’s status, this should be a good cash game lock to jam in a lot of Tottenham players as they both project to score the most and allow among the least goals. It also makes Huddersfield an interesting GPP play, it’s possible the betting public is onto something but my hunch is they’re running down narrative alley chasing very tempting odds.
WLV @ SOU
This game is too close to call, which makes it intriguing for gpps as a lot people like myself usually avoid teams that aren’t overwhelming favorites. Southampton is favored at +140 but the line has since shifted to +160. The public overwhelmingly bets 78% on SOU vs 4% on the Wolves.
I think if there is a player or two here you like that’s fine but I’d hedge more on the SOU side of things given that they are home, the favorite and the public doesn’t seem to believe in the wolves one bit. I’d personally hedge more towards defenders and goalies here, you can’t get too carried away with strikers in a game with the lowest projected goal total of 2.5 unless you have some real conviction plays.
EVE @ FUL
Everton are the favorites here but not by much and they are not playing at home.
The game has a decent implied total where both sides are expected to produce goals. Both teams provide a lot of fun DFS options and there should be goals on both sides with a likely 2-1 outcome.
The public is very split as well with 49/49 betting splits. If there is a player or two you like on either side, have at it.
CC @ BUR
This is just like the Everton game but Burnley doesn’t have nearly as enticing players to choose from and projected to score a little less. Burnley is playing at home and against a very bad team though and here the public is unanimous with 83% betting on Burnley.
I probably won’t touch this one but whomever starts at forward for Burnley will likely be a popular option given playing at home against a team so bad they aren’t worthy of a third letter.
BOU @ BHA
Brighton is the slight favorite in Vegas but the overwhelming favorite in people’s hearts. 94% are betting on them.
Both sides are expected to score at least one goal but unless you can find a reason to disagree with the 94% who chose Brighton despite not very significant odds between the two then I’d definitely shy away from Bournemouth. Even if you’re one of those extreme contrarian guys, you need to have some sort of reason behind the play. As much as the public hates them, Bournemouth is still supposed to score and aren’t that much of a betting line underdog but I’d be sure you know why the public hates them before you proceed to invest in that financially.
WHU @ MUN
Here we have another one of those classic DFS targets where one of the giants is playing one of the fill ins and are expected to dominate. Rosters will be loaded up with Manchester United players and particularly so in cash. They’re also expected to score more than 2 goals and let in less than one so everyone on the team is in a smash spot regardless of position.
Anyone who dares play someone from West Ham is a very brave and contrarian minded player ineed. Anyone who doesn’t play MUN must not play cash very often.
MCI @ CRY
This should be an interesting one. Vegas treats it no differently than West Ham vs Manchester United but Crystal Palace is playing at home and usually has a very good defense. Crystal Palace also has a lot of very reliable and fun DFS options so despite their horrible matchup, some people will probably dip into that well again. On paper, none of those narratives are enough to stop MCI from just steamrolling them but I’m buying into the hype and definitely going be paying plenty of attention to the public betting lines on this one.
I’m always a sucker for Crystal Palace, but then I’m usually of the MCI mega stack roster as well. Going to be a soul searching slate for me. Of all the contrarian plays of playing heavy underdogs for gpp, jamming in a lot of Crystal Palace is the only one that makes any sense to me. But that itself probably means it’s not all that contrarian but more of a go to secondary option. I’m worried I’m selling myself false narratives from my own personal affections for both team and will ultimately fade both teams and pay attention to ownership for better decision making moving forward.
CHE @ LIV
This is one of those perfect storms where two mega teams clash. Liverpool is actually a heavy favorite here but Chelsea is still expected to score at least one goal.
I think Chelsea could be a good play for gpp given that a lot of people avoid these situations – even more so the underdog. But I personally like to avoid these situations and let someone else take that route. On the flip side, this is one of those spots where if you love playing someone like Salah, his relative ownership will probably be quite low. I don’t want to be one of those cliche “anything goes in gpp” kind of guys but soccer is definitely a sport where that can work. There are just so many slates where only a handful of goals will be scored and if you only play the smart plays then you’ll never find yourself with that center back or do nothing midfielder who gets a goal and instantly rockets you into the top 5. Nobody ever won a gpp by playing Messi, he wins because of the other guys.
In general, their pricing gets inflated from all the games where they dominate possession and score in bunches. Neither Chelsea nor Liverpool will likely dominate the game so each player will get less touches, shoot it less, cross it less, etc etc. But you’re paying the same amount as if they were playing Cardiff. It’s just not somewhere I would willingly go. Having said that, this game still has a high implied goal total so there should be some good pieces here, just a matter of choosing correctly.
Final Thoughts
I’m typically a cash game player and don’t have much stomach for playing centerback fluke goal whack a mole. So I’ll probably just target the favorites, jam in who I like and fill out the rest with some of the more uncertain games for salary relief. Typical boring cash game play where the only differentiation is I chose the left back and the opponent chose the right back.
Good luck everyone.

SCHOLES: UNITED NOT CONTENDERS

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes does not believe his former club have the quality to challenge Manchester City or Liverpool in the Premier League this season.
"When you look at Manchester City, possibly Liverpool, I don't think they [United] have the quality of those two teams at the minute. Liverpool have made some really good signings. United finished above them last season," said Scholes, speaking in Hong Kong.
"I just don't see United getting closer to City. City are a really good side, great manager, some great players, a way of playing that they all know about and Manchester United seem to be not too sure what's going on.
"You don't really know the team, you don't really know the players, you don't know how they're going to perform from one week to the next. So I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see them challenging for the league this year."

"I don't think it's going to affect us," the former Celtic defender said. "We are a team, not an individual. We know it's been coming so we will just focus on the game, that's the most important thing for Hibs.
"We know if John is here he is a plus for the team, he is a good player. So we are without John but we are still here and we still have the quality of player to do well.

"He’s going through the formalities of a medical and they also have to go through the process of sorting out a work permit as well. 'BOLT WON'T GET SPECIAL TREATMENT'

Central Coast Mariners coach Mick Mulvey says Usain Bolt will be treated as any other player when he joins the Australian A-League club this month on an "indefinite" trial.
Mulvey will make the final decision over whether Bolt is offered a contract as the Jamaican sprinting great pursues his long-held dream of playing professional football.
"If it was up to him he'd be coming in without any hoopla but that's impossible for a person of his stature. I'm really happy and really looking forward to having him train with the club.
"I'm sure when he arrives he'll give a good account for himself and we'll see what happens from there. If it works, he will be offered a contract."
