Bookmaker's office Liga Stavok - review of the leader of gambling sites
The bookmaker's office Liga Stavok was founded by Yuri Krasovsky and Oleg Zhuravsky. It was they who launched the gambling project in 2007. For 2 years under this brand the whole network of elite betting establishments "Oscar Yard" was opened. Moscow, St. Petersburg, Togliatti, Yaroslavl, Chelyabinsk, Ufa, Volgograd, Samara, Yekaterinburg, Kirov, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary, Krasnodar, Omsk, Kazan, Saransk, Penza, Tula, Voronezh - these are not all the cities where the popular bookmaker's bets are accepted today. In the Russian Federation at the moment there are about 500 such establishments. All of them are the property of "PMBK". The bookmaker's office Liga Stavok online became the first officially recognized virtual project in Russia. The website was launched in 2016. Then it obtained the license for its activities. In a relatively short period of time, this site was visited by millions of players. Many of them became regulars of the office. The official Liga Stavok website is a portal with a stylish white and green design. On the top panel of the home page there are sections:
Live;
Match center;
RPL;
VIP;
Video broadcasts;
News;
Information.
In the upper right corner of the portal there are two useful keys "Login to the site" and " Sign up". They provide players with the opportunity to put money on the line, get winnings and payouts, participate in promotions, activate coupons, find out the results, today's forecasts and competition coefficients and many other manipulations. Every day on the site there are bets on thousands of events. The choice of competitions is diverse. On this resource you can put on football, tennis, volleyball, hockey, boxing, eSports and other sports disciplines. You can bet on coaching appointments, events in politics and show business. Here players can bet on LIVE and pre-match. The average margin value in the first variant is 7-8,5%. In pre-match - 4-7%. The minimum rate is Br10. The opportunity to invest in bets is given by registration and identification on the portal. Based on the decision of the company's shareholders' meeting, the coefficients were increased by reducing the margin. Thus, the margin for the Russian football championship reduced to 6%. Its figures for NHL hockey battles are up to 5%. NBA basketball tournaments - 10%. The margin is extended to the total with forms. It should be noted that these figures are much more attractive than the offers of many domestic brokers. Not surprisingly, the number of clients of the Liga Stavok is steadily growing. The full version of the website is available to PC players at www.ligastavok.ru. The mobile version of the gambling site will also help to get to the main portal. This application can be easily downloaded to an Android device or phone with another OS. Install the program in a couple of clicks. The mobile version has all the features of the main site. You can visit your personal account, place bets, participate in the promotion, view contests online, replenish accounts, transfer the winnings to the bank card. Beginners are advised to familiarize themselves with the platform's internal regulations before registering on the site. Bookmaker's office rules allow to block a player's account if he played unfairly or violated the terms of the user agreement. In cases when the user is blocked for reasons unknown to him, there is always an opportunity to contact the support team with a request for unblocking. The account can be restored by the specialists of the brokerage company, if there are no serious violations done by the player. https://esportsbetting.pro/liga-stavok https://preview.redd.it/sgt9v9joyqu41.jpg?width=1333&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abd1e5a45d96d3d4cc3b877ac3043e3d774ccaa4
Good afternoon Canucks Nation, it's time for another catch-up with the Farm!
Full disclosure, I am incredibly hungover. Last night I met up with a cousin of mine, whom I had not seen in over four years! Like the genius I am, I didn't eat anything prior to meeting up, and then I went on to have seven or eight High Life IPA's thanks to my good friends at the Brewhall in Vancouver!
Last night the Utica Comets eked out a 2-1 regulation victory over the Checkers, even after doing their usual second-period collapse where they got outshot 12-to-5.
Fortunately, stalwart rookie netminder, Michael Di Pietro, put up an impressive 33-save performance, posting a 0.971 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average.
Tonight, it looks like Cull will be giving Mikey a bit of a break, as Jake Kielly looks to get his first AHL start of the season.
Although this is far from the same team that won the Calder Cup last season, the Checkers are a much tougher team than their record would indicate. Comets coming away with four points off this double-header weekend will do wonders for their playoff push.
The Comets record in the second game of back-to-backs remains at seven wins, nine losses, and one shootout loss. Slightly under a 0.500 points-earned-percentage

Goldobin gets the veteran-scratch for a third consecutive game. Have to feel for the guy, but hard to ignore how ineffectual he has been at 5-on-5.
With Blujus out with injury, Sautner slides back in with Rafferty as the team's top pair. He took a dirty hit in the first period from last night's action and is feeling the effects today. That opens the door, again, for Josh Teves and Mitch Eliot to come into the lineup to try and impress the bench boss for more ice-time.
1st period
[Comets in White]
FYI: I didn't realize the sound was shut off on my capture device until midway through the second period, so apologies for the lack of audio.
Lukas Jasek takes a high-sticking penalty off an offensive-zone draw and the Comets are back to the penalty-kill
Brogan Rafferty sent out as the 2nd PK d-pairing *eyes emoji*
GOAL - CHARLOTTE - 1-0 Checkers: The Checkers capitalize on the powerplay, as a heavily screened Kielly can do nothing to stop a gorgeous tip from Charlotte's, Ryan Bourque, off a shot from Joey Keane. That's two games in a row where the Comets gave up the opening goal against the Checkers.
1st peeper comes back out for the final o-zone draw in the final five seconds of the period
The score at the end of the 1st period: 1-0 Checkers
Not sure I like Graovac on the first powerplay unit, the guy simply doesn't have the legs to chase down pucks along the wall. Overall, it was a bit of a hot-and-cold period of play from the Comets. To start, the team was giving up some high-danger scoring opportunities, but by periods-end, they managed to reel the Checkers back. Both teams are doing well at holding each other to the outside perimeter for shots. Have to feel for Kielly, a bit, on that opening-goal as there was literally nothing he could do to stop that one. Penalty-killers have to do better at clearing space around Kielly's net, so he has clear sight-lines on the puck. The dreaded enemy of the Comets, the second-period, could mean a comeback opportunity, or a full collapse. Fingers crossed its the former. Points are critical these days as two teams behind them in the standings, the Binghamton Devils and Laval Rocket, are both on decent win streaks to put them in contention for playoff spots. The Comets already got two points off this conference-foe, but another point or two could be all the difference between getting in or falling out.
2nd Period
Comets early powerplay ends without much going for it
GOAL - CHARLOTTE - 2-0 Checkers: The Checkers quickly spoil the Comets second-period pressure by scoring their second of the night. Clark Bishop finds himself alone on the Comets right-circle, and he rifles a shot towards the crease of Kielly's net. Mark Cooper crashes the crease to get a last-second redirect of the puck under Kielly's pads.
GOAL - UTICA - 2-1 Checkers: Reid Boucher (#24) scores again! His 33rd of the season! Every point that Boucher scores is breaking franchise records, he's now one point away from tying Alex Grenier for career-points with the Comets. At his current pace, that seems like an inevitability for him to both match and surpass that total.
Before the faceoff, Sven Baertschi heads down the tunnel with the athletic trainor....oh god
The score at the end of the 2nd period: 2-1 Checkers
So tilting, realizing I didn't have sound captured through the first twenty minutes of play. Despite how dull the period was, the Comets did well to generate shots on goal, as they held the Checkers to just five total. One of those being a goal, but, HEY! Can't save 'em all! Concerning that, Baertschi went down the tunnel with the athletic trainer seemingly unprovoked. Fingers crossed that this isn't concussion-related. Kole Lind and Justin Bailey have had really impressive games so far, but have been unable to capitalize on any of the multiple scoring chances they've created.
3rd period
Baertschi not on the bench to start the third :(
Lind subs in on the Comets first-line alongside Camper and Boucher
Reid Boucher gets stood up at center-ice while trying to transition, but Lind recovers the puck for the zone-entry. Checkers eventually ice the puck
GOAL - UTICA - 2-2 Tie: Wow, what a quick response! Who else but Reid Boucher (#24) to rifle a one-timer past Kinkaid for his 34th goal of the year! Fantastic drop-pass from Tyler Graovac (#44) to set up Boucher for the game-tying goal.
Physical board battles in the Comets zone followed by Lind and Camper trying to set-up one-timers in the Checkers end
Appears to be a noticeable momentum shift for the Comets who are moving the puck up-ice considerably better than the Checkers
Comets late surge pays off, as this one heads to overtime!
The score at the end of the 3rd period: 2-2 Tie
Fantastic battle from the Comets to even things up at two apiece I originally had a point in my second-period musings that said the Comets shouldn't bank on getting another powerplay to try and even things up. But sure enough, that's exactly what it took, and Reid Boucher, once again, proves the COmets hero. Loved the compete level from Kole Lind that entire third period. It genuinely felt like he was on the ice for 90% of the time — an impressive game from him to turn this game on its head for Utica.
Overtime
Rafferty, Jasek, Graovac the first trio for Utica
Not sure I'd pick the guy with one-eye, a guy coming off IR, and another guy coming off IR as my first trio to roll out in OT
2 minutes into OT and the Checkers have held the puck for the entire time
Justin Bailey caught out on an incredibly long shift after going end to end to out-race an icing. Jake Kielly gloves down the puck at the side of the net, mercifully allowing Bailey to change
1:30 left and Kole Lind finally out for OT
GOAL - UTICA - 3-2 Comets: Brogan Rafferty (#25) goes full god-mode as he dangles around two Checkers defencemen before drop-passing to Kole Lind (#13) for the game-winner! I audibly yelled, "what the fuck" at Raff's absolutely disgusting display of dangles to weave the puck through the feet of the Checkers' defencemen. Stoked to see Lind, finally, wind up on the scoresheet as he had nothing to show for an incredible game-played up until that point.

Takeaways
Lmao, Rafferty got the first star of the evening, but after having as many giveaways as he did, I don't know if I'd be willing to give him that much. That overtime play was certainly something though.
Fantastic comeback win from the Comets to earn a crucial four-points on the road. Comets finish their night getting outshot 27-to-26, but the resilience they showed in the final twenty minutes of play was really quite something. Despite their best efforts at 5-on-5, the bounces just were not going their way. Checkers' fans can't even argue that the Comets were gifted a powerplay to even things up, as there was a blatant non-call on Lind mere seconds before Steven Lorentz' slashing penalty
I said it a few times tonight, but Kole Lind had himself a statement game. The stat-lines won't do justice to the kind of work that Lind was putting along the end-boards that resulted in numerous scoring opportunities for the Comets. Linds OT winner was his 14th of the season, which now has him sixth on the team, with 0.54 primary-points-per-game. Reid Boucher sits first with an astonishing 1.10 primary-points-per-game.
Carter Camper recorded two assists tonight, which has him leading all centermen with 32 assists on the year. Should Carter Bancks return, the team is going to have to sit one more veteran. Earlier this season, I chided Trent Cull for his decision to scratch Camper in favour of having both Carter Bancks and Wacey Hamilton on the starting lineup. Please write your local MP, should Camper get taken out of the lineup, because he has been integral to the Comets goal-scoring this season.
Lukas Jasek looked ok in his first game back since injury/illness. He started strong, but later in the game, he looked slow, which makes me wonder if he's entirely over whatever it was that had him sidelined?
Poor Sven Baertschi, I genuinely hope him leaving the game has nothing to do with head-trauma. He looked solid in the opening goings of the first period, but after that shakeup along the endboards, he became less noticeable.
Brogan Rafferty had a game that fully encompassed why it is tough to project how he fits in an NHL lineup. He has tremendous skating and puck handling through traffic, with the offensive flair of a power-forward and the passing skills of an NHL defensemen. Unfortunately, he also has some of the worst egregious giveaways among Comets defensemen. Everyone is understandably excited at this management group finding another NCAA free-agent d-man, who's tearing up the AHL. Those same people have pencilled Rafferty into next-years starting Canucks lineup. However, can you imagine what Travis Green would do after seeing a tape-to-tape giveaway in the D-zone like the one Raff had tonight? Food for thought
Jake Kielly, too, had a really impressive showing for the Comets! 25 saves on 27 shots for a 0.926 save percentage and a 1.88 goals-against-average. Not bad at all for someone making their first AHL start! Kielly truly did set the tone for the Comets after he made those huge stops early to prevent Charlotte from generating a lead. I'm sure Trent Cull and co. are relieved to see they have a backup who may be more reliable than they had expected.

The Comets Trajectory?
The Comets win tonight moves them into second place, as they edge the Rochester Americans on regulation-wins. The Comets will look to maintain that place in the standings when they return home this upcoming Wednesday, as they take on division-rival, the Syracuse Crunch.
As always, if you want to read up on this Comets Harvest or the 2018-19 Farmies editions, you can find them all at my Comets Harvest Blog here
The Utica Comets are inside the final 20 games of the season, and holy guacamole, do they have a month in store for them!
Two 3-in-4's to start the month, then a Tuesday game that immediately follows a double-header weekend. Afterwards, it's a triple header, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, mid-month, concluding with two more 3-in-4's at the close of March and start of April.
Did I mention that only nine of those thirteen games are against divisional opponents? Meaning, the Comets can't afford to slip up anywhere this month. A losing streak at any point this month could mean a freefall out of a Calder Playoff spot.
Hot off the heels of a disappointing drubbing by the Laval Rocket, the Comets will start this month against the North Divisions, second-place, Rochester Americans, an all too familiar foe of the farms.
The Comets' last game against the Amerks was an interesting one. Despite getting thoroughly out-attempted at 5-on-5, the Comets managed to earn two big points via the shootout. There is an asterisk on the game, in that, the Comets arguably should have won in regulation. The referees missed a blatant trip against Sven Baertschi as he drove with the puck towards the empty-net. The non-call denied the Comets an automatic empty-netter goal-for, and on the ensuing 6v5, the Amerks managed to score in the final 28 seconds to force extra-time.
By no means did the Comets play a clean game against the Amerks. Getting out-attempted more than two-to-one across all-strength-situations means the team was basically in survival mode all game.
Out-attempted two-to-one is the common thread between all of the Comets/Amerks matchups this season.
Out of their seven-game head-to-head this season, the Comets have out-attempted the Amerks at 5-on-5, wait for it, ...once
No surprise, the only thing that has been separating wins from losses in this seven-game series, is goaltending.
The Comets are already seeing what can happen if they ride their goalie too hard. Mikey Di Pietro was making his ninth straight start for the Comets against Laval, pairing that with a blatantly lethargic Comets team in front of him, was a breeding ground for disaster.
Perhaps the past few days off has allowed the Comets to refill the stamina bars. Well, at least we hope they have because with two teams nipping at their heels for the third and fourth-place playoff spot, they can't afford any more performances like they had against Laval. Its Crunch time. But not literally Crunch time, because it's actually Amerk time ...you know what, you get the idea! Let's get into tonight's matchup!

So Stefan LeBlanc gets to slide back into the lineup, and impressively, moves into the top-9 alongside Stevens and Goldobin. Like the makeup of the line, a strong forechecking presence from LeBlanc could be a great compliment.
Goldobin gets the veteran scratch, which, I'm sure, is delightful for him.
Pretty surprised that Eliot and Teves can barely crack a healthy Comets roster, but when the Comets are down two d-men, they get paired together. It makes me question if its a matter of trust with Trent Cull, or if its a matter of skill. Both Teves and Eliot have looked perfectly adequate in the AHL this season. Obviously, when they are healthy, the Comets' third pair is a tough spot in the lineup to crack. It makes me wonder why Eliot and Teves weren't sent down to Kalamazoo to play out the entire season to get ample ice-time.
Have to feel for Olli Juolevi, man, injuries have just completely fucked up this kids' career path. Hip soreness for the second/third time this season is a bad look.
1st period
Comets in their Away whites
Comets controlling play early throughout the opening two-minutes, not much for shot-attempt generation, but Comets doing well at moving the puck up into the offensive zone
Rochester almost gets on the board with a tap-in attempt from the crease of Di Pietro's net, but the Rochester forward whiffs on the tap
GOAL - UTICA - 1-0 Comets: John Stevens (#16) sets up Stefan LeBlanc (#3) for the tap-in goal to get the Comets on the board! What did I say about the active forecheck that LeBlanc will provide this line? After an exhausting battle along the Amerks endboards, Casey Nelson stumbles with the puck in the slot, accidentally pushing the puck over to Stevens. Stevens backhands the puck to LeBlanc (#3) in the slot, and this time, LeBlancs one-timer gets past Hammonds blocker side.
Rochester pressuring late, ending the period outshooting the Comets 13-to-9
The score at the end of the 1st period: 1-0 Comets
That was a really fast-paced period of hockey, with zero penalties issued and only a few couple timeouts. Comets still struggle mightily against the speed and size of the Amerks squad. The Comets do try to match the physicality brought by the Amerks, but, as you could see in a couple of those streamables, Amerks play a heavy game that even the veterans and toughest Comets players can't match. Comets still electing to play that heavy four-deep in the o-zone style that gives opponents a jarring number of odd-man rushes-against.
2nd Period
Comets ice the puck to start the period, giving the Amerks an offensive zone draw
GOAL - ROCHESTER - 1-1 Tie: 28 seconds into the Teves penalty, Jean-Sebastien Dea backhands a pass to Taylor Leier in the high-slot, who beats out John Stevens (#16) for a backhander over the glove of Di Pietro. Write us a postcard from Kalamazoo, Josh, because I bet Cull won't forget that one
Comets generate a few fleeting shots on net in the waning minute, but this period was all Rochester
The score at the end of the 2nd period: 1-1 Tie
Yikes, that was a rough period of hockey displayed by the Comets. After 40-minutes of action, the Comets find themselves getting outshot 30 to 17. Rochester is a volume team, who uses their speed and size to open up space for shots on goal. Utica is an opportunistic team, who uses their speed and vision to capitalize on errors for scoring chances. Unfortunately, Utica's approach to generating offense requires them to actually be in the offensive zone. Rewatch that streamable of the Comets standing still as the Amerks generate shots towards the net. The Comets fade the second they don't regain the puck in their zone.
Chaotic puck-possession displayed by both teams in the final ten minutes of this final period. Puck is on a yo-yo as both teams take turns stealing the puck off each-other sticks
Comets attempting to imitate the Amerks approach of offense, and are throwing anything and everything towards the net of Hammond
5:30 left and momentum is starting to favour the Comets -- Amerks looking tired after the extensive pressure dished out in the first two periods of play
GOAL - UTICA - 2-1 Comets: The Comets third-period surge pays off, as Sven Baertschi (#47) plays give and go with Carter Camper (#19) before going backhand over the glove side of Andrew Hammond for his 13th of the year. Great puck movement from the Comets started by Ashton Sautner's (#6) thread through traffic to get Baertschi inside the o-zone.
A shot from Wacey Hamilton gets blocked at the Amerks blue line, nearly springing an odd-man rush for Rochester. Fortunately for the Comets, Remi Elie blows a tire to kill the opportunity
Amerks pull Hammond for the extra attacker
GOAL - UTICA - 3-1 Comets: Comets repel the Amerks pressure, as Brogan Rafferty (#25), Wacey Hamilton (#36), and Justin Bailey (#95) combine to move the puck around their end boards and out to Tyler Graovac (#44). Graovac walks the puck into the Amerks zone for the empty-netter and records his second AHL goal of the season.
Comets withstand the early dominance of the Amerks as Mikey Di Pietro posts an incredible 36 save performance, earning the Comets a critical two-points against a division rival.
Comets stay out on the ice post-celebration to give handshakes to Derek Sylvester, who I can only assume was retiring after this game.

Takeaways
Comets pull the classic rope-a-dope, as they withstand 40-minutes of relentless Amerks offense to earn the win with some late-game heroics from the first line. Can't understate enough how important Di Pietro was to the Comets in this game. Amazingly, Di Pietro was only the 2nd star of the night, while Sven Baertschi got the first-star for his game-winner.
Di Pietro finished the game with a 0.973 save-percentage and a 1.00 goals-against-average. *larry-david-pretty-pretty-pretty-good.gif*
Not a pretty game shot-attempt wise, but the Comets did admirably at moving the puck up-ice when they were able to gain possession of the puck. Against this fast Amerk team, however, they weren't afforded many opportunities to strip the puck off their opponents. Don't think the Comets want to end up in a playoff series against Rochester, because the Amerks clearly play a style of hockey that will dominate come playoff time.
Underrated game for Dylan Blujus, who recorded a team-high of five shots on goal. I think he and Sautner looked, possibly, their best all season, and it might have to do with the fact that both were playing on their strong-side for a change.
Speaking of shots on goal, Boucher looked fantastic in his first game back after an undisclosed illness. Dynamite on the penalty-kill as usual, he had moments of standing around waiting for the puck to happen upon him. However, that asterisk can get applied to every single Comets player tonight. Love his ability to steal the puck off opponents and create chances out of thin air. He wasn't able to land on the scoresheet, but he still remains the team's most potent threat in the o-zone with the puck on his stick.
CTRL C+V my comments about Stefan LeBlanc's play from a few games ago. Great effort, hustle, and forechecking presence that earned him the games first-goal of the night. With the Comets hamstrung by the veteran limit, and Brisebois/Chatfield up with the Canucks, I doubt Teves/Eliot's positions are in jeopardy. A position that sucks for LeBlanc who's opportunity has been thrown a wrench by having to play off-role. That being said, LeBlanc has performed above expectations in my eyes. Have ti imagine his performance of late has earned himself a full-time spot on the roster, whether that's as a forward, or as a D-man.
Still a bit concerned that the Comets have yet to figure out a gameplan to combat the Amerks. They've played eight games against each other now, and I don't know if I'm confident that the next game won't see the Comets getting caved-in for two of the three periods. The rope-a-dope worked tonight, but in a five-game playoff series, I don't know if that's something a team like this should bank on
Graovac got the empty-netter, but boy, his skating sure does look rough still. I said after his last game that I wouldn't harp on it. But he looked like he was skating in mud through much of tonight's action. Probably just a reps thing where he'll look more like himself, the more game-time he gets in.
Francis Perron had an underrated performance playing alongside LeBlanc and Stevens. Perron's had a tough season, what with the eye injury that forced him out of eleven games, then he took a puck to the head in practice that took him out of another five. Perron has speed, tenacity while displaying some decent offensive chops, but he's only managed two goals and one assist in his last 20 games played. Perron's contract expires at the end of this season, but sadly for him, I don't know if his streaky production has been enough to warrant another look next year.
Not on the Canucks, but Casey Mittelstadt is a really fun player to watch -- had a couple of goofs behind the net in the Amerks zone, but his speed makes him such a massive threat whenever he blitzes into the o-zone. I don't watch a lot of Sabres games, but I can't imagine why his skills don't translate into the NHL.
I already said it, but I genuinely just feel bad that Olli Juolevi is, once again, dealing with lingering injuries. Alongside Brogan Rafferty, Juolevi posted the best shot-attempt differential at 5-on-5 in the Comets games against Rochester and Toronto last week. Reminding you that one of those games was another against Rochester, in which the Comets were out-attempt two-to-on at 5-on-5. Godspeed to the fragile Finn in his recovery.

The Comets Trajectory?
Comets return this weekend for a double-header road trip against David Ayers' Charlotte Checkers, I won't be on recap duty for the Friday game, however, as I'll be meeting up with family whom I haven't seen in over four years! So expect another Comets Harvest, for Saturday's game only!
As always, if you want to read up on this Comets Harvest or the 2018-19 Farmies editions, you can find them all at my Comets Harvest Blog here
As some of you have probably noticed, I've been posting game predictions in the GDTs for most of Edmonton's games this year. There has been a decent amount of feedback and mostly positivity surrounding it even when the predictions have been less than flattering, so kudos to you guys! Anyway since there has also been quite a few questions regarding some of the metrics and my methods I thought I'd write a bit on it (sort of a FAQ) so I can simply refer to this post later on. Apologize for the wall-of-text, feel free to skim to what interests you. DISCLAIMER: I am not a statistician or a mathematician, I work in a BI role. Everything below is just trial and error and there are definitely far better ways to do this stuff. I am always open to suggestions and improvements.
Why do you post this stuff?
I've not had a lot of success in sports betting before so I thought I'd make an attempt to see if I could beat the system using statistics. I've been meaning to make this for a few years but finally got round to coding some. I then found many of the factors involved very intriguing and the head-to-head comparisons make watching the games more analytical so I thought I'd start posting them for others as well (I first did the tables by hand, but now its code-generated).
What tools do you use?
I have a very simple setup at home using SAS University Edition1 running on an Oracle VM. I work with SAS so I chose it because of familiarity, not because it's necessarily best suited for the job (I do find it very versatile though). I run the code manually whenever I want to analyze games/place bets. Since this is running on a VM there is no batch-processing involved (a SAS-license for a server doesn't really make sense for personal use).
Where do you get your data?
I have some code that polls the NHL API2 and a betting website API. Additionally I scrape data from corsicahockey3, puckonnet4 and naturalstattrick5 .
What do you do with the data exactly?
The basic data-flow is structured as follows:
Get team stats (NHL API)
Get league aggregated stats (NHL API)
Get current standings/rankings (NHL API)
Get advanced stats a) Expected goals-% (and xGF/xGA/60) (corsicahockey) b) Corsi & Fenwick EVSA (puckonnet) c) Aggregated GSAA, xSV% (naturalstattrick)
Update list of games with final results (NHL API)
Get list of today's games (NHL API)
Get game winner odds for today's games (Betting website, open API)
Clean up and format datasets for analysis
Calculate custom metrics for teams a) Team form b) Team fatigue
Analyze today's match-ups
Print reports (& reddit text table for EDM games)
Store predictions in datamart tables and a) Analyze prediction accuracy b) Analyze metric correlation
There is some other stuff going on in conditional data-flows but that is mainly for ad-hoc analysis.
What is "Form Score"?
Okay, so this one is meant give a better idea of a team's recent performance than simply looking at wins/losses or points/pt-%. I calculate the initial score based on the game result as follows:
Result
Win
Loss
Regulation
2
0
Reg. 1-goal game
1.5
0.5
OT
1.25
0.75
SO
1
1
Each game's score is then adjusted by the opponent's Point-%, and by league home advantage (~0.96) or away disadvantage (~1.04) The game scores are summed together and the result is divided by 6 to find the mean. Finally, the mean score is adjusted using the team's current PDO (aka SPSV%). So a hypothetical maximum form score at the time of writing would be if the Hurricanes (worst PDO or "luck" in the league with 0.963) played 6 away games (1.04 modifier) against the Tampa Bay Lighting (best Pt-% in the league with 79.5), and they won all of them by more than 1 goal (2 PTS per game).
(2*79.5*1.04)*6 = 165.36 / 6 / 0.963 = ~172
Current actual maximum (04.12.2019): 83.06 (BOS) Current actual minimum (04.12.2019): 0.00 (DET)
What is "Fatigue"
I calculate fatigue based on a few metrics:
Jetlag = Time-zones crossed in the last 6 games (lower is better)
Schedule = Days between the 6th game and today (higher is better)
Travel miles = Number of miles traveled divided by schedule days (lower is better)
The actual formula also includes a constant (to off-set negative values) and some weights:
(50 + Jetlag - Schedule*2) * sqrt(Travel miles)
This results in a fatigue score that typically ranges from 100-1000 (higher is worse). For simplicity, the team's are categorized by whichever 33-percentile they end up on (LO-MED-HI), but in the head-to-head analysis the actual fatigue score is taken into account. In addition, back-to-back win/loss percentage is added to the initial fatigue value when comparing teams head-to-head.
How do you come up with "Expected Score"?
Expected score is based on a few metrics:
xGF/60 = Expected goals for per game
xGA/60 = Expected goals against per game
GF/60 = Goals for per game
GA/60 = Goals against per game
From this we can average out a realistic expectation of goals per game, lets call them rGF/60 and rGA/60, for both teams. Averaging out the opposing measures...
...and extrapolating based on estimated certainty of win/loss...
*(1+-certainty^2)
...we get the approximate number of goals for both sides. From here, we could use floor and ceil functions to get more variance between the numbers, but a simple rounding with zero-fussing will give a more realistic score line. Typically 3-2 or 2-3 (although atm thanks to higher scoring, the most common scores are 4-3/3-4 and 2-1/1-2 both with 11,8%).
How do you analyze the match-ups
In order to determine which team has a better chance to win you have to consider both internal and external factors that relate to win percentage. External factors are mostly event specific, eg. home/away advantage, recent travel etc. Internal factors are by far easier to analyze as they are composed out of qualities that we can evaluate using past games as reference ie. power play efficiency, goaltending, possession, shooting percentage and so forth. In my model I utilize the following metrics in addition to considering home/away advantage (using league average win-ratios):
Metric
Category
Fenwick EVSA
Control
xGF%
Offense
HDCA
Defense
GSAA
Goaltending
xPPG for
Special Teams
Form Score
Form
Fatigue
Schedule Effects
Comparing these metrics in a match-up results in one team having an advantage over the other. However, not all of these metrics have an equally large effect on win probability, so they need to be weighted. I determine the weights by calculating correlation coefficients for the metrics. Put simply: the stronger the apparent correlation between a metric and actual GF%, the larger the weight.
What do you use it for?
There's a whole lot of data and dozens of data tables involved but primarily this whole shebang simply prints out some reports for me. First one includes all the games for the day with the expected game winner highlighted along with estimated certainty and additional stats regarding recent form. [https://imgur.com/1rFSOdc] The second one displays betting odds for the games along with visualized form scores. Colors are determined by individual games' form score. [https://imgur.com/FnOjoQ2]

Select games are highlighted depending on the odds and estimated accuracy for predicted result. The third report is a table of suggested doubles for betting: [https://imgur.com/T2GXk4f] And of course, I use it to post statistics to EDM GDTs. It gives me a text table to copy and paste.[https://imgur.com/HzaPj9q]
Does it work?
Last season I had an overall accuracy of about 61% and made a roughly 4-5% return for investment, while betting mostly on doubles/triples & singles with large handicaps.
Can I get access to all the results?
Maybe at some point in time. I'm working on sharing these on a free-to-view website.

/r/hockey NHL Power Rankings Week 20 Feeling the Blues Edition
/Hockey NHL Power Rankings Week Feb 11, 2019 - Feb 17, 2019
Thank You
Thank you to all of the volunteers doing the power rankings. Each ranker has their own system and have their own reasonings and analyis. It truly is a lot of work.
The visualization contains historical data, so you can see how your team has done over time. Hopefully, we can run this for many years in hopes that we can see the rise and fall of teams by /hockey opinion. It automatically updates so feel free to bookmark. You can find it here
Process
How does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers. The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /hockey!
I think everyone else in the hockey world has taken care of describing how incredible this season has been or how amazing Vasy is or how Kucherov is on pace to the first player to yada yada yada. The real question that lightning fans are wondering is if they should anyone at the deadline. We have loads of assets and could go for any of the top rentals however that could come at the cost of negatively effecting team chemistry.
Moving forward I am curious about Deboers strategy on resting players. We know this team in making the playoffs but there is stark difference in how this team plays when guys like Karlsson and Vlasic are injured. At least Jones is starting to round into form as that has been key a part that has yet to show up this season.
I am starting to question Bill Peters handling of Rittich. Young goalies don’t have the breadth of experience veteran goalies have and if they lose their confidence it can be a hard thing to regain. Pulling Rittich during the San Jose game after two goals was awful. For better or worse I think you let them play and see if they can bounce back. Pulling them that early gives the impression that you just don’t trust them to come back and that can be shattering to the goalies confidence. Then to not play them against Pittsburgh shows that you don’t even have confidence in them as a starting goalie. This team needs goaltending to perform at the consistent level they have been.
The bounceback continues as the Leafs move to 8-2-1 in their last 11 games. Unfortunately they somehow always manage to find new ways to shockingly (albeit briefly--thank god) disappoint. A really solid performance against a #ActuallyGood Vegas team (despite their recent slump, VGK are elite in shot share #s) was followed up with one of the wettest farts the Leafs have ripped this season. Scrappy not-so-good teams like ARI (no offense and we'll always love you for creating Papi) seem to be a weird Achilles heel for this group as they frequently look like they just don't care in those matchups. Here's a nice visual aid. Thankfully the playoffs shouldn't even offer them the opportunity to "play down" as every team is good so hopefully this isn't anything more than a weird regular season quirk. Oh and speaking of the playoffs, MTL is slipping (as was expected) while BOS is surging so I guess we can start penciling in our first round exit now :-/
While offense has been underwhelming for a few weeks now their defending and gogaltending continues to help them win games. Biggest news is Ladd and Hickey being activated with a conditioning stint in Bridgeport set to end right after the trade deadline with the roster expanding. Hopefully Ladd can have success on Barzal's wing like he did at points last year, and be a shot on the powerplay that threatens to score if left undefended. At this point the biggest thing for the team is to stay healthy and not have any distractions, as they hunt their first division title in over 30 years. Also of note, they are done in Brooklyn until (if they make) the second round of the playoffs. They have played very well in Nassau and this should be a great advantage for the home stretch.
A limerick, for the Winnipeg Jets in their most cursed week of the season: Now, Winnipeg cries out in pain, "Our team simply can't win a game!" They're first in the central, Still buying a rental, "Please, God, don't let it be Duchene!" See, Winnipeg's just outta luck "Watch Laine go bobble the puck!" The defense imploding, The Cup-hopes eroding, "Why won't PoMo bench Hellebuyck?!" The Hockey News prophecy said That Canada's cup drought will end Give us back Ehlers, Good health for our Wheeler And let us make good of their bet!
The Bruins currently have tied their longest winning streak of 5 games this season as they temporarily creep into second place in the Atlantic and Eastern Conference; ahead of the Maple Leafs. The team is still playing its usual style of hockey which is concerning but the Bruins are managing to win games in regulation instead of collapsing in the 3rd; especially in the Ford F-150 Final Five®, and going to OT. Jake DeBrusk is on a hot streak right now after not scoring for 13 games. Sean Kuraly is also being fed points since he is on the top line in place of Pastrnak who was injured in an accident and will be out for around a fortnight. It has also been weird to see Marchand evolve from a pure goal scorer to more of a playmaker, considering he currently has more than twice as many assists as goals and leads the Bruins in points now. Now if only the rest of the secondary could keep showing up on the scoresheet :stares daggers at Backes in the press box:.
The St. Louis Blues will never lose again. We haven't lost in 27 days. The boys are playing for each other and both 'tendies look amazing. Tarasenko is the hottest player in the League right now. Even Mike Milbury is saying nice things about us. Everything's coming up Blue Note.
Who knows which Jackets team will show up? The team that blanked Washington 3-0 that held them to 6 shots TOTAL in the first two periods and played probably the most complete game I have ever seen them play, or, the team that got blanked by the Islanders that couldn't keep up with a team that was playing better. But, 5-1-0 since the 5 game losing streak is definitely how you bounce back.
Two games, two losses against two contenders. Both rough losses, where we had solid periods only to let it slip away. As I write this, time ticks down on a Panthers game that we have lost control of. Add to that the fact that the Pens and Canes, Just WON'T STOP WINNING and Habs fans definitely feel like the sky is falling, and well, I guess we will see next week when we have our rematch against the Leafs. In the meantime please enjoy this clip of Max Domi, doing what he does best, the antagonistic little hyena.
Things are starting to get tight in the eastern conference race and that Anaheim game is one we can’t afford to lose. Against one of the worst teams in the league we drop a dud and against one of the best we actually put in a great effort. At this point in the season .500 hockey is not going to be enough to get us into the playoffs. We need much more.
I have to wonder if Fluery is getting tired from playing the amount of games he has. The last three games haven’t been the best granted his defense still needs to help him out.
Flyers are 12-1-1 in the last 14, losing to the Pens for that one loss. Dont even @ me that we aren't on fire rn. We have recently been not playing our best and our Good boy(Tm) Carter Hart has kept us in every game. We had a two good games against detroit, Hart in his first back to back, showing his resiliency. Lost to the pens, and beat the Wild somewhat handedly. Acquired Talbot for stolarz, so Hart could have a friend and veteran mentor for his development. In the West, we'd be in a wildcard with a few point buffer. But in the East, we are 6 points out. We need to win this next weeks games, and then we are right back in the race for the playoffs. Hail Gritty.
Dear Western Conference opponents: Can you please hurry up and bury the Wild in the standings so we can blow this team up and start over? $200 Million of Suter and Parise and an underachieving group of malcontents didn't even result in a WCF appearance in what is now Year 7 of the Brothers Albatross. Hell, give Seattle this franchise in expansion and they could be the Seattle (Rime of the Ancient) Mariners. I don't even know if Fentonyl is the right man for the job but anything is preferable to this. The only thing worse than a bad team being bad is a good team being bad. The 2018-2019 Minnesota Wild are the latter.
Patrick Kane has 13G, 24A on his current 17-game point streak. His current 16-game assist streak is tied for 6th longest all-time (with Jaromir Jagr). Those above him are Wayne Gretzky (23, 17x2), Adam Oates (18), and Paul Coffey (17). He is doing his best to will the Blackhawks into the playoff race. Also, since the Winter Classic, Alex DeBrincat and Jonathan Toews each have 11G, 11A. In other news, Dominik Kahun (a rookie, signed out of the DEL) has played every game this season and has recorded 0 PIM. Corey Crawford has been taken a full practice, bringing excitement for those who wish him to play again, and fear (of re-injury) from those who do not.
The Canucks offended the goalie gods by sacrificing their 19-year old third stringer to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. In return, they were forced to make amends by gifting the Ducks' Kevin Boyle a shutout on his first NHL start. The injuries are piling up once again, exposing the team's lack of depth in every category. Pettersson continues to be a cool NHL player that I like, and it's nice to see some other rookies (Gaudette, MacEwan) making an impact as well. But some proprietary data I've been working with suggests this last week is the beginning of a serious slide for the young team.
Well Last week was a sort of must win. The Avs are likely not making the playoffs this year, and it is time to take account of our assets. Sakic appears to feel the same way as immediately news is out we might trade Zadorov. We have a lot of UFA players so we can certainly make some noise in the draft it just depends how much we don't want to sign a lot of these guys. Wilson, and Nemeth are probably the most valuable UFA pieces we have and we should find a buyer for both, even if its a 4th round pick. As for the team the good news is they showed life in Winnipeg. The hope is the team keeps competing though cause some of these guys are playing for their jobs still. Would really like to see Rantanen scoring again as he has really fallen off the past few weeks, but has looked much better the past few games.
A close game against Winnipeg started off this week. Wasn't the best game we've played this season, but to come within one goal of a serious contender is impressive for this team. Next we have the Buffalo game. Oh boy was this a treat. Not only did we win by 4 goals, Tony D (who is good) one-punched Okposo. I love Okposo and I hope he's ok, but jeez that was something. To close off this week we had a 6-5 loss to the Pens. The boys showed that they had fight in them after going down 6-3. Zucc played a great game and our top line in general has been on fire. Here's to hoping for another exciting week.
Kings traded Nate Thompson and a 5th rounder to the Canadiens for a 4th round pick. Despite moments of inspiration over the past month or so- it looks like the Kings are set to get a solid draft pick in the first round next year.
Random rant of the week: Can fans of rebuilding western teams stop acting like still being in the playoff race is an actual accomplishment this year? There's absolutely nothing special about being in a playoff race where a team 1 game under .500 is only 1 point back. Good lord.
As I sit here astounded at a 5-2 victory on Neidermeyer’s jersey retirement night I can’t help but feel that the video clips they played should not have included New Jersey. Anyway, the Ducks sandwiched a lackluster performance against Boston with a great first start for Kevin Boyle(shutout in first start) with an excellent performance against Washington. /Hockey NHL Power Rankings Week Dec 3, 2018 - Dec 9, 2018
Thank You
Thank you to all of the volunteers doing the power rankings.
I typically spend every week here highlighting a player that has stood out but after this week there are way too many Bolts that I could talk about. Something about the team feels different this year. Outside of the “Vegas Hangover” loss to Arizona there hasn’t been a single loss that they have felt out of it. Even the game where Eddie Pasquale struggle in his NHL debut, the team never gave up. If I do have to focus on one player then I gotta give some love to Mathieu Joseph. A lot of hockey may not have heard of this kid but you should. He is one the fastest skaters in the league, is tied for 2nd in goals for rookies and 7th in points. Much like Brayden Point had a slow start to his rookie season and started to turn it on, a similar thing is happening to Joseph. He is one player that all hockey fans should be keeping a close eye on.
A collection of famous quotes about the Leafs: * You don't understand! They coulda had class. They coulda been a contender. They could've been somebody, instead of the Bruins' bitch, which is what they are. * Defense? Where we're going we don't need defense. * You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Can the Leafs win in TD Garden?' Well, can they, punk? * Mama always said the Leafs are like a box of chocolates. You never know how soft and fragile their psyche can get. * The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing Leafs fans their team wouldn't crack under pressure in Boston. * Hello my name is the Toronto Maple Leafs. You killed my pride. Prepare to have an easy win. And my personal fave: * Ha-ha, you fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is “Never get involved in a land war in Asia,” but only slightly less well known is this: “Never bet against the Leafs making the Bruins look much better than they truly are!”
30 games into the season, the Calgary Flames are 1st Place in the Western Conference. Repeat that slowly if it sounds strange at first. The Flames were 8-1-1 coming into the meaningless and by all accounts scheduled loss to the McDavids on Sunday night, but remain as the leagues hottest team. With an elite set of top 5 skaters, consistent goaltending form both Smith and Rittich, and an apparent confidence not seen in any Flames team since the cup win in 04'...this team isn't slowing down anytime soon.
Avs were shown this week they are still a young team with learning to do. Against Pittsburgh a few lazy shifts allowed a hat trick in 2:47. Tampa was just a demonstration of how far we have to go. The Avs looked out of sorts defensively and other than the top line we could not hang with Tampa. And our top line was having a lot of trouble the Tampa D-men. On the positive side of things Rantanen's point streak continues and Mackinnon put up almost as many points this week. Depth can still play with the majority of teams, and can get better. another plus is the Avs have only played 11 home games so far this year and they are much better at home, than on the road. This coming week will see a return to home and the western conference, with the Oilers and a back to back against St. Louis and Dallas.
The Caps are riding high after thumping the Blue Jackets in a fight for the top spot in the Metro. With an atypical amount of injuries Todd has had to adopt the next man up mentality, and it's gone surprisingly well. Burakovsky is still a disappointment but Travis "my Boyd" Boyd has three points in in his last two games and Vrana & Connolly have provided the secondary scoring we need to win games. Djoos was healthy scratched, which is something I would advise against, but it allowed another look at Siegenthaler who is quickly proving to be a hidden gem. I don't know why exactly, but the Caps seem to have a knack for finding small, puck-moving LD - Schmidt, Djoos, Siegenthaler, and Orlov. I just wish we were as competent on the right side (jury's still out on Hobbs). Coming up this week we have the Red Wings, Hurricanes, and Sabres. All games a champion should win.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Ten game win streak, followed directly by a five game losing streak. We played a great first period against Philly, then let in six straight goals. Yes, that same Philly team then lost 7-1 in Winnipeg the following day. Have we played any games that we could have won? As a matter of fact, we only lost by one goal in four of the five (including two in OT). In some sick, twisted reality do we lose the next five to nullify the win streak? Possibly. Would that catch any diehard Sabres fan off guard? Probably not. In any case, next week looks like a 50/50 split between LA, Arizona, Washington, and Boston.
What a Jekyll & Hyde week for the Bruins. I had my dank meme prepared going into the Toronto game on Saturday night; expecting a loss, given the 0-5 shutout against the Panthers and then a close loss against Tampa earlier in the week. Something about playing Toronto in Boston brings out the passion in this team. Secondary scoring shows up, and the team is lit. Questionable reffing aside, the Bruins go into Kanata and stole an OT win from the Sens after two tired teams on back-to-backs have a nice goalie battle. I am just happy that McAvoy is healthy after a big hit and the team is starting to come back from the IR and need to play some catch-up in the competitive Atlantic Division after floundering around.
Rough week for the Blue Jackets. I'm still baffled that Brad Larsen is still employed. Our defense has been bad and our powerplay is worse. It seemed that the calendar rolled over and everything good that happened in November was forgotten. At least Korpi, who came on in relief TWICE this week, has been playing great. .
While the Sharks had a decent record this week I'm still not loving their play. The Habs and Canes games went well for them, but the other two felt lacklustre. Although the offence is back on track after the road trip with the system being less predictable this week, the defence has still felt irresponsible at times, routinely giving up multiple goals in a short span and losing momentum in key moments. I'm not unhappy with the record this week, but I know the defence can be better and I'm hoping they pick it up soon.
Big divisional game Saturday night for the Wild, taking a 5-2 win to put them back into sole possession of first place in the competitive Central. Luke Kunin is quickly coming back to form after his ACL tear and Dmitry Sokolov potted a pair of third-period goals to seal the win. Goaltender of the Month Kaapo "Big Kahk" Kahkonen got the night off and CJ Motte had a serviceable 22 save night. The team now has only one regulation loss in their last ten and are firmly in playoff contention for the first time since the franchise moved north. Despite this ranker scouring the internet, news media, and even soup cans tied together with string, there is no word of how the NHL club is performing of late.
Short week for the Ducks with a trade sprinkled in. Sprong for Pettersson was a low risk move by GMBM to light an offensive fire. if it works out, hes a genius. If it doesn't, no one will even remember the trade.
Hitch has the boys buzzing around the ice since he took over the reigns with a 6-2-1 mark, a 6-1-1 mark with McJesus in the lineup. And McJesus is playing much better offensively and defensively anchoring this team that couldn't seem to stop a puck when McClellan was behind the bench. Koskinen and Talbot are now both providing great goaltending The Oilers appear primed for the playoffs at the pace they've been playing the last two weeks.
Finally we have avenged our Stanley cup loss... and in the most exciting way possible. Vegas keeps showing the league that they are here to stay with wins over Washington and Dallas. The loss to the Kings was not explainable, but at least the Knights bounced back at the fortress. We have updates that Stastny will travel with the team on the upcoming eastern coast road trip, so get ready to see an even more active 2nd line. *.
Unfortunate loss vs. WPG. BAD loss vs. Pit. Great win @ Det. Isles will have to maintain the momentum they built off their huge comeback road win Saturday night. With Ho-Sang being called up, hopefully they will be able to improve their powerplay scoring. Barzal still hasn't "woken up" and shown what he is fully capable of, and if that happens soon - watch out. Trotz's effects on this team continue to show week after week, as they are achieving things greater than anybody had predicted before the start of the season. This commentator’s greatest concern is how he is deploying his goalies, with Greiss who has shown problems in the past of dealing with excessive usage, currently getting used excessively. Hopefully with the return of Lehner to full health he can get some rest without compromising Islanders results.
Darling is back... this team is still a questionable team at best. It doesn't take much to determine what this team lacks in the terms of leading the league in shots on goal, and being dead last in the league in shooting percentage. It doesn't help they traded away a guy who is on pace for 50+ goals on a rival Eastern Conference team. Brett Pesce is back and Haydn Fleury is back to a healthy scratch. Terrible effort in LA, much better game in Anaheim and Aho is slowly getting out of his "scoring drought".
Two great games, including another highlight reel Sidney Crosby goal, capped off by an extremely dumb penalty in overtime to lose what should have been a winnable game soured the whole week in my opinion. Ah well. Kessel looks way better on the top line right now than he has most of the season and I hope he stays there. We should also be getting Hornqvist back in time for next game. Also people keep posting videos of Sprong doing good things on our subreddit and that's pretty annoying. We need to beat the Islanders this week. Period period period exclamation point.
At least this team is finally exciting to watch. Adin Hill has played well as of late, the young stars are showing up, and the team is playing much faster. This team appears to be the definition of today's NHL in the fast-paced play with an aggressive attack willing to trade chances and put points on the scoreboard.
Only one game this week, but that's ok! A shootout win against the Panthers still warrants some discussion, both positive and negative. A nice 2-0 lead in the first with goals from Mika and Vladdy, with a good opportunity for Kreids to score on a breakaway. In the second period we were quickly matched, but the lead was regained by a deflection from Matt Beleskey (!) Towards the end of the period Ekblad tied it up to head into what was shaping up to be an interesting third period. Our boy Freddy Claesson scored a damn fine goal to regain the lead early. About half way through the third, Barkov scores to tie it once again. After a very solid OT performance from Hank, we head to the shootout. Mika with a beautiful backhander strikes first. Shatty strikes next with another nice shot. Huberdeau answers, but Hayes hits Lu with a nice move to seal the deal. Fun game to come back from the week off. Hopefully the Rangers can come into this week with some momentum from the win, regardless of whether it was SO or not.
The Wings are playing some 80s hockey. Tons of goals for, tons of goals against, comebacks, deficits, fights, hits and chaos. We win some, lose some, but the whole thing is fun as hell. Dylan Larkin is slowly turning into the franchise centerman Detroit thought they were getting. And the Red Wings have jumped back into the playoff picture after the miserable October they endured.
This week was very flyers. Started with a good comeback bid in CBJ but ultimately fell in OT. Sanheim decided he was done not scoring goals and popped off 2 goals in just a few minutes, which was good to see. Then we had a fantastic, mostly 60 minute effort, where Giroux potted 4 points(1g, 3a) and got the game winning shortie. Then, Winnipeg happened, and I dont wanna talk about that. We had some life at the beginning, and played pretty alright, but Neuvirth in his first game back let in some softies. Then, after the 3rd goal was scored, making it 3-1, the wheels came off and the game turned into an unfortunate mess of a game that was hard to watch (no, that Hagg hit shouldnt get a suspension. A proper punishment was assessed, considering all factors, don’t even @ me). One highlight was Stolarz, who hasn’t played regularly in a little over two seasons since having surgery on them knees. He's looked confident and very solid in net, and should be proving a challenge to Neuvirth for the backup job once Elliot returns from injury
Well, I guess they couldn't lose forever. The Canucks had a great week that included back--to-back wins and plenty of points for their emergent young stars. Over three games we saw 8 points for Pettersson, a hat trick for Boeser, and some high speed hockey from Horvat/Virtanen. Does this mean the Canucks are turning a corner on the season? Almost certainly not. Even with a healthy roster, this season is about enjoying the bright spots in otherwise dark night sky.
Holy shit a win! Against the worst team in the NHL... I'll take it. And hell, the team put eight pucks in the net in Anaheim. Too bad 3 of them went into the net Schneider was guarding.... and that we still can't win in OT. or a shootout. This team needs something. Most likely defense, but take away the egregious mistakes against the ducks and it's 4-2 or 4-3 instead of 5-5 at 60 minutes. Statistically this team shouldn't be as bad as it is, record wise, but they are. What do you mean there was a game against the Lightning? Shuuuu we just won't talk about that one.
So at this point righting the ship seems nigh impossible, and yet some members of the team aren't on board with the whole tanking idea. Jake Allen, for example, is playing some of the best hockey of his life. If only the team in front of him could actually score.
The Kings appear to be in full lose now mode, with a slew of rookies/free agents/randos added to the roster. The shellacking of VGK was nice though and a bright spot for us. #loseforhughes
For the 10th consecutive game, the Hawks have given up the first goal. These goals came at 0:54 (11/21 @ WSH), 0:29 (11/23 @ TBL), 5:48 (11/24 @ FLA), 2:10 (11/27 vs. VGK), 1:43 (11/29 @ WPG), 2:11 (12/1 @ NSH), 10:07 (12/2 vs. CGY), 5:41 (12/5 @ ANA), 1:28 (12/6 @ VGK), and 6:05 (12/9 vs. MTL) into the 1st. In those games, the Hawks were outscored 24-6 in the first period and have led a total of 41 seconds. They have not scored the first goal since 11/18 (vs. MIN). The Hawks are 2 for their last 33 PPs. The Hawks are 3-15-3 in their last 21 games. Connor Murphy returned from a back injury, but Gustav Forsling was placed on IR with a shoulder injury. At least we have the Bears?
[THE FARMIES] Recapping Tonight's Utica Comets (31-31-6-2) vs. Toronto Marlies (37-23-4-3)
THE FARMIES
Whats up Canucks, the Farmies is back after a week long layoff! I unfortunately missed last Saturdays game due to personal issues (if you’ve been keeping up with the Farmies, you’ll know I’m in the process of trying to lock down a new place to live before May 31st, so finding time available to recap and review the Farm lately has been tough!).
Given that the Comets are FIGHTING for a playoff spot, it felt like a good place to restart the timely recapping…as the Comets wrap up their season with two triple header weekends, with the first match being tonight against the Toronto Marlies.
I believe mathematically, all it will take for the Comets to be eliminated is the Cleveland Monsters earning a win in regulation tonight. Essentially, the Comets do need to win all 6 of their upcoming games to have a shot at getting 4th in the division…to be completely honest even if they do get there I don’t know if the current lineup is even capable of making any kind of splash. But regardless it should be a VERY exciting weekend for the Farm as they battle their hearts out to keep their season alive.

Looks like Jonah Gadjovich returns from a lengthy IR stint as well as centermen and PK specialist Wacey Hamilton…slotting out of the lineup are a long list of injuries (some which were picked up in the uncovered Saturday game, that will be done LATE tonight!)
Also making their debuts tonight are Mitch Vanderlaan, a 5’7” NCAA ATO from Cornell University (ever heard of it?); plus Aaron Thow, another NCAA graduate from Clarkson University on an ATO. So unlike MANY games in the past few months, a lot of prospects in tonights matchup worth watching!

Streamable Clarity Improvement Notice
Continuing with last issues theme, going to be Players full name (jersey number) – place in streamable (if not outright obvious) then every sub sequential play featuring that player it’ll be last name(jersey number) – place in streamable (if not outright obvious) I’m also going to reduce the amount of hyperlink in the GOAL streamables, since that’s what I think MOST people are here for and don’t want some gaudy blue taking up the screen.
1st period
Comets in blue
Perennial meathead, Tom “Top Sixtito” Sestito in the lineup for the Marlies tonight
Starting line is Woods/Gadjovich and Gardiner – they win the draw and enter the zone
Sestito looks comically massive relative to the majority of the Comets on the ice…that there is a big boy
Missed the 20 going on 46 year old, was making huge strides in his game prior to his IR stint hope he’s able to come up big in the final 6 of the season
LOL, Tom Sestito gives Tom Pyatt a shove in front of Michael Leighton, and ALL 5 Comets on the ice surround him for shoves, and he easily dwarfs every single one of them haha
The Marlies with their first bit of sustained pressure and BOTH shots from them on open nets go completely wide of the goal
Comets kill the penalty, and then Eemeli Rasanen takes a boarding penalty on Cam Darcy to put the Comets on their second powerplay of the game
1st Unit loses control on the ozone draw, then cycles a bit on their second try only to again lose possession and have to change off…this unit needs much more skating to be successful – I would argue that putting Boucher on the 2nd unit with Graham, Jasek, Gadj and Thow would be much more dynamic.
Petgrave misses a saucer pass on the blue line and the Comets lose the zone and the Marlies are able to kill off tonnes of powerplay time…brutal gaffe from the blueliner
Score at the end of the first period: 0-0 Tie
Not a bad penalty at all from the Comets! Great periods of play from Woods, Gadjovich, Boucher and LeBlanc! Shots even at 8 a piece; but it really felt like the Comets held control of that entire period from beginning to end
2nd Period
Comets start the 2nd with a brief powerplay; 1st unit: Thow, Boucher, Gadjovich, Gaunce, Graham
On a rush lead by new guy Mitchell Vanderlaan, Brendan Gaunce gets dinged for high-sticking to put the Comets on the penalty kill
After a stoppage in play, Michael Leighton was in some noticeable discomfort in his crease, possibly tweaked/pulled something, and MarekMazanec enters the game
Comets at the conclusion of the Gaunce penalty, Jaime Sifers takes a high-sticking penalty of his own to extend the Comets time on the PK with a cold goalie…yikes
GOAL – TORONTO – 1-0 Marlies: facing his second shot from the Marlies, Mazanec doesn’t have good control of the rebound and it gets easily tapped in by Mason Marchment to open the scoring for the Marlies
hard to really fault Mazanec here since he’s coming into the game quite unexpectedly while the Comets are in the midst of 4 minutes of penalty kill time
PP unit getting switched up as Blujus becomes the D point man.
Brendan Gaunce SOMEHOW takes a slashing penalty 30 seconds into the Comets powerplay….onto 4 on 4 we go
The Score at the end of the 2nd period: 1-0 Marlies
Wellp, Comets really need to shore up their discipline and get back in this one…they’re picking up loose pucks and doing well to enter the Marlies zone, but their shots on goal are just so predictable…just constantly into the breadbasket or gloveside…switch it up guys! YOUR SEASON IS ON THE LINE HERE!!!! Leighton being out for the rest of this triple header weekend is pretty terrifying for the playoff dream…Mazanec has lost every start, and been pulled twice while with Utica. *something something JB 7th round pick*
3rd Period
Mazanec still in net to start the third…if Comets can’t come back and close this one out for two points then the season is doomed. I genuinely have more faith in Kulbakov in net over Mazanec at this point.
Comets hemmed into their end for the first minute; then, Brendan Woods leads a drive down the wing into the Marlies zone only to end up passing back to Matt Petgrave on the blue line who misses the pass and forces the offside
Wacey Hamilton and Reid Gardiner attempt to combine for a give and go, and Gardiner is BLANTANTLY hooked to the ice but no call is made…refs completely losing this game
GOAL – UTICA – 1-1 Tie: great hustle from Gadjovich(#22) to keep the puck in the Marlies zone, as he bats the puck to new guy Aaron Thow(#40) who flips one cross ice to Woods(#21) who drops the puck at his feet and wrists one past Kaskisuo to tie the game at 1! Great shot!
Both Sestito and MacEwen receive 10 minute game misconducts due to fighting before the puck drop…could be a serious problem for the Comets, without one of their best players
Figures, after a couple blatant trips in the Marlies end, the Comets face a 2-on-1 rush and Wacey Hamilton gets called for hooking as he gets tied up with Mason Marchment…Comets to the PK
bahaha…on the ensuing faceoff draw, Mason Marchment takes a faceoff violation/delay of game minor, so we instead go to 4 on 4...mayhaps the refs recognize how badly their calls have been this game, and decide to just keep things even
Comets holding in the Marlies zone and Subban blatantly goes skate to skate on Boucher to trip him, but no call made
Petgrave just before that streamable facing pressure backhanded a pass into a crowd of 2 Marlies players, so while I cannot stand his defensive gaffes, he does pull off SOME good stuff at times…but boy is it sketchy whenever he’s controlling the puck
No clue wtf the team strategy is, but the Comets 1st unit powerplay’s goal every powerplay is to drive down the wing and then play pass until Boucher can get a one timer…if he isn’t open…then lose possession and retry…its soooooo predictable…they just DO NOT do any controlled entries into setting up on the blue line…its always a dump or drive to the end corner boards and then blindly pass to center.
GOAL – TORONTO – 2-1 Marlies: The Comets give up their 19th shorthanded goal of the season….Mazanec buddy…I know you came into the game late…but this goal is softer than baby shit….horrible…
Time winds down and Cull rolls out Jasek, Woods, Boucher, Gaunce, Graham and Thow…

Takeaways
The Cleveland Monsters won in regulation tonight, so with their victory and the Comets loss, they have been mathematically eliminated from Calder Playoffs
What a heartbreaker to end the Comets season…they absolutely dominated the Marlies, but couldn’t bury their chances when they had them, and the refs certainly didn’t help them either… losing MacEwen with ten remaining….the horrific non calls around the Marlies net that seemingly happened over and over ad-nauseum…just a brutal way to see them lose.
Like Aaron Thow’s game, looked very competent defensively and offensively, looked to be a better powerplay runner than Graham/Petgrave or any other Comets defenseman the past 2 months. Decent speed as well, I think given more games he could develop some solid chemistry with the guys and produce more
Brendan Woods had himself a fucking game man, I genuinely feel bad for him, he was playing out of his mind; chances nearly every single period, skating fast, hard, 3 shots on the night, crashing the net constantly…its really too bad every single player on this team has forgotten how to score goals, because on any other normal night, his goal tonight would just be a footnote…but guy was playing great…
its been an absolutely horrific couple months for the Comets…injuries galore…losing streaks galore…call-ups galore…this is barely a team… I know we praise JB for his ability to draft NHL ready players…but his cupboard building has been godawul… look up the number of draft picks on Tampa Bays farm team and ECHL squad, its actually crazy that we consider Judd Bracket and the JB/JW squad as “draft gods” but really, after 5 years…we finally get 7 draft picks into our farm lineup, 1 is a bonafide NHL centerman stuck behind “heart and soul grinders” that the Canucks MUST have at all times, 1 who the coach doesn’t like and thus leaves for Liiga, 1 blows out his knee early, so we have 4 left and at the end of a season of constant disappointment, we’re left wondering…is this really it? Don’t get me wrong I have faith that one of if not, two of Gadjovich/Lind or Jasek CAN crack an NHL roster…but again after that…there’s just soooooo little. Tampa Bay called up 1 or draft picks this year due to injury so you know what they did, they called up 3 guys they drafted in 2014 and 2015 to fill the void. That’s how much faith they put into their drafting…they plug them into the lineup and build around them…here we just threw them in with our hodge-podge of AHL players and said, “I dunno, the leagues tough…try scoring!” It aint working chief! This aint it!
I genuinely hope that draft guru JB and co put more concerted effort in creating a farm team that can actually help our draft propsects grow…I don’t want to see Lukas Jasek stuck on the third or 4th lines playing with the Carter Bancks and Reid Gardiners of the AHL/ECHL… surely for a team in a rebuild, they can do better… surely we can do better than trading our U23 players for stop-gaps due to injuries, year-in, year-out…. Carcone, MacMaster, Dahlen net out for a net in of Stefan LeBlanc, Josh Leivo and Linus Karlsson…one guy who’s been OK in the NHL playing with the teams best players, a guy who’ll probably be a depth call up maximum, and a guy projected to most likely be a bust OR A FRINGE NHL player. WE HAVE TO DO BETTER FOR OUR PROSPECTS
Dude I’m sorry, but please stop playing Matt Petgrave…I bet he’s a great locker room guy and all that … but jesus the guy is a turnover machine, CONSTANTLY…he can’t hold a blue line to save his life either…its like his depth perception changes when he’s in the offensive zone. A majority of those 1st unit powerplays were lost because off poor puck control by Petgrave on the blue line… I keep saying it over and over agin…Cull clearly sees something more in Petgrave than I do…but please for the love of god play Colton Saucerman over Petgrave…I get that he’s smaller stature but he can actually shoot from the blue line, skates hard, fights if he has to, battles along the boards, but more importantly he can actually defend!
Respect to the Utica faithful for cheering their boys on even as they head down the tunnel…it has been a fucking brutal stretch for this AHL team and I have nothing but respect for the Utica crowd for showing up every night despite the misery… Think they had a better attendance record this past month than friggin Florida for god sakes
Comets Three Stars
Brendan Woods
Aaron Thow
Stefan LeBlanc
HM: Jonah Gadjovich and Lukas Jasek
What’s Next?
The Comets season now over, they head into tomorrow evenings game on the road against the Hartford Wolf Pack with basically zero expectations…I’m kind of hoping we get Petgrave out of the lineup and we see Saucerman out there..I think he’s earned the right to compete for a 3rd pai7th D spot for next season. We know what we got in Graham and as fast as he is, if he can’t score or defend with his speed then there isn’t much point to seeing him out there…I’d like to see Sauce/Woo/Thow out there with Blujus/Sifers/LeBlanc in any kind of combination…I’m done with Pet/Graham this season I think. Give Aaron Thow more ice time…I think he’s worth a hard look.
Despite the way the Comets season ended, It’s been a god damn pleasure doing the Farmies this season for you guys, I hope to continue this into next year as well, Thanks for baring with me as I try to manage recapping games with buying a house, it hasn’t been easy but know I appreciate you guys’ readership and comments! I’ll see you all tomorrow night! (and possibly LATE tonight as I review last Saturdays game)
As always, if you want to read up on this Farmies or past Farmies editions you can find them all at my Farmies Blog here
