Let's Check in with Goteborg 22-23 [Story]

Let's Check in with Goteborg 22-23 [Story]
Could Goteborg bounce back from the record sale of talisman Alhassan Yussuf? Would tired legs see them crash of the Europa League? Or would star forward John Carlsson continue to drag the team along on his (admittedly large and strong) back?
The race for the 22-23 Allsvenskan is tightening up, as Goteborg rotate their squad after midweek matches, and give some young players opportunities. With 27 games played, Goteborg hold a narrow 3 point lead over rival Djurgardens IF with just three matches left to go in the season. A recent run of inconsistent form has allowed Malmo to close to within 4 as well, so Goteborg fans will be gripping the arms of their couches for the remaining two weeks.
The table, May 4th
The hot game will be against Malmo FF on the 7th, with implications for the potential Allsvenskan crown. A win should see them comfortably home, but a loss and a Djurgardens win would see the two squads level with two matches to go; and Malmo close behind. It's all to play for in May for Goteborg
3 fixtures left
On the goalscoring front, the attack at Goteborg has been soaring, with strikewinger 3rd in the league with 12 goals; his compatriot Carlsson shows up with 8 in just 14 games. Asked about Carlsson's playtime, manager Drue Desjardines noted, "We brought in Ohi for his experience and composure, and wanted John to get his minutes as well. When you're a striker, some days the ball bounces in, some days it does not. But we had objectives we set within the locker room, to advance in the league and in Europe, and having a rotation of players was important for that."
Omoijuanfo leads Goteborg's line with 12 in the league
Talented youngster Jon Carlsson with 8 goals in the league
Carlsson, however, can be found doing more than banging goals; the centre-forward is the team leader in creating assists, with 8 assists in his 14 matches.
Assists in the Allsvenskan, top 5
Overall, Allsvenskan teams face a multifarious attack when playing Goteborg, as any number of players can score from anywhere on the pitch. Defensive midfielder Jacob Christensen and holding midfielder Tobias Christensen have proven to be very dangerous on late-arriving runs, allowing the forwards and wingers to lay off easy passes.

While playmaker Kristoffer Olsson has only registered 2 league goals, he has been a threat in every match, and his movement and acumen have opened up the lanes for Abu Francis, Mikael Holm, and both Christensens to attack the goal, as he drags defenders out of position or cycles and possesses the ball.
Europa League Progress
The Swedish side have been the darlings of the European competition, and have blessed long-shot bettors around the world with surprise winnings in upset after upset. After last season's quarterfinals exit, Desjardines promised the team would be back. And indeed they have come back.
The team could not overcome their Champions League draw, exiting at the group stage after another 3rd place finish. "That was not an easy group," laughed Desjardines. "We kept our spirits up knowing we could try to make a run in the Europa competition.
And it's been a run.
After seeing off Sparta Praha, the Swedish side faced RB Leipzig. After a quiet 0-0 struggle at home, Goteborg lit up Leipzig with a shocking away win to advance 4-2.
Facing Hertha BSC in the quarterfinals, Goteborg put in such a dominating performance that the Hertha manager was sacked following a 10-0 destruction over two legs, each engineered by Kristoffer Olsson and Tobias Christensen pulling the strings in the 4-3-3 preferred by Desjardines.
It was old nemesis Roma in the semifinals--the same Roma that saw Goteborg out last season. This time around, John Carlsson insisted it would be different. "The manager saw that I was in good form, and he trusted me to go out there for us, and I just tried my best to be dangerous." And dangerous he was, in a topsy-turvy match that left the manager scratching his head in wonder at his defense. Carlsson and Christensen netted in the opening 15 minutes, and Goteborg looked to sit and defend its lead. But two defensive errors led to easy chances, and the score was level at halftime. In the second half, Carlsson completed a hat-trick via an unstoppable dribble that he blasted into the roof of the net, and a volley that he scuffed past the flailing keeper. But even the 4-2 home lead was inadequate, and Roma came storming back with two goals of their own, both through Pellegrini.
Having given up a shocking 4 away goals, it was all to play for in Rome-- anything but an outright win would send Goteborg crashing out again. One round later, to be sure, but disappointed again. "We made some important defensive adjustments and tried to make sure we were not going to give away the shots we did last match," Desjardines said. "Of course, Roma, you know, they say the same thing as us, and so it's going to be down to individuals--who finds the space, who makes the pass, who gets a clean shot, who beats his man or locks him down."
https://reddit.com/link/iy14zt/video/d0w1y4kavso51/player
Perhaps the most important moment of the game arrived in the 25th minute, and it wasn't a player who made it happen. Unhappy with the way the team was losing possession, Desjardines switched from the preferred 4-3-3 holding, bringing his wings back closer to the defense, and adding another defensive midfielder. Now in a 4-2-3-1, the team found new threat going forward and generated shot after shot. The new look closed off Roma's shooting chances as well, and Goteborg escaped Rome with a stunning shutout win-- a scoreline that betting houses had at 60-1 after the first leg. Some punters got very lucky.
The win sees them facing Sevilla in the final-- a chance to lift yet more hardware after last year's Allsvenskan victory. "It would be sweet to win that," said Desjardines. "After a long season and campaign of weeknights, to be champions would make the effort pay off for the men, you know. We might even be a year early--we set this goal, of the finals, for a long way out, we thought maybe in 23-24 season we could reasonably do it, but the draw has helped us and the men have absolutely stepped up, and so we are early for this final in our plans."
Can the Swedish side upset Spain's new giants? Or will Sevilla make the leap into the top tier with Madrid, Atleti, and Barcelona? What magic can Carlsson make as he chases the golden boot in the Europa League, where his is 2nd with 11 goals-- and Boateng's Monaco side are done.

Transfer rumors
There are rumors that several players could see their contracts wind up, and as Goteborg grows in stature, so too do the transfer rumors. While Matias Jorgensen has served well on the left wing, there are reports that scouts have observed Alborg's Lucas Anderson and Molde's Eirik Hestad. Both would be upgrades at the wing position, although the recent electrifying play of Carlo Holse has impressed and possibly solidified his position on the right.
https://preview.redd.it/61sf4ryixso51.png?width=812&format=png&auto=webp&s=a537ebecbeeb4cdbd1229f8a4e53f4d6ad4999c1

In defense, the team could benefit from an upgrade at fullback--especially if another European season is in the cards. With Rasmussen playing fullback instead of his more natural winger position, and Jonsson (and super sub Hansson) still developing, one or more defenders would improve the lineup immensely.
https://preview.redd.it/mbogot1ayso51.png?width=705&format=png&auto=webp&s=5103e69a3374bcf447c7efc7892cf22dd0bafddb
Regarding the midfield, pundits are split. The underrated Jacob Christensen has been strong in breaking up plays and contributing goals, but some think that a more technical player in that spot would benefit the team significantly. "As always, we can only operate within our means," said Desjardines. "We have our shortlists, and we know our budget limits, so those are our constraints."
Will Goteborg make splashes in the free agent market? Can they lure a top-notch winger to the cool wilds of central Sweden? Goteborg is not exactly known for being a top destination for luring players--will the allure of European football be enough to land their man?
And most importantly: with 4 matches to go-- can they secure the silverware of a Europa League final AND an Allsvenskan crown?
Check back to find out!

Pre-Match Thread: Arsenal vs. FC Koln - Europa League

Arsenal vs FC Koln
Competition: Europa League
Kick-off: 8:05pm, Thursday, September 14th.
Location: Emirates Stadium
Team news:
Arsene Wenger will rest a host of first-team players when Arsenal begin their Europa League campaign at home to FC Koln, but Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere may feature.
Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny, Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka, Danny Welbeck and Alexandre Lacazette have all been left out of the squad
Wenger says the best way of returning to the Champions League next year is via a top-four Premier League finish.
"We did that for 20 years," he said.
"We got 75 points last year and overall, I am humble enough to be happy to win every competition," added the Frenchman.
"I think the best way to do it is through the Premier League."
Wenger has included Chile forward Sanchez in his squad for Thursday's game.
The 28-year-old - Arsenal's top scorer last season with 30 goals in all competitions - was close to joining Manchester City this summer before the Gunners pulled out of a £60m deal.
Opta stats:
  • This is the seventh consecutive season Arsenal have faced German opposition in Europe - they've faced Bayern Munich in four of those (2012/13, 2013/14, 2015/16 and 2016/17), Borussia Dortmund in three (2011/12, 2013/14 and 2014/15) and Schalke once (2012/13).
  • Arsenal and Cologne faced each other in the 1970/71 Fairs Cup, with the Gunners losing on aggregate on away goals. Arsenal won the home leg 2-1 at Highbury with goals from Frank McLintock and Peter Storey.
  • This is Arsenal's first European match not played in the Champions League since the 2000 UEFA Cup final, which they lost 4-1 on penalties to Galatasaray after a 0-0 draw.
  • Cologne's last European match against English opposition came in September 1995 - they routed Spurs 8-0 in an Intertoto Cup match.
  • In European competition proper, Cologne's last win over English opponents was in December 1976, beating a QPR side featuring Frank McLintock in the UEFA Cup.
  • The Gunners haven't lost a home game on a Thursday since Boxing Day 1974, losing 2-1 to Chelsea at Highbury - they've won eight and drawn three since.
  • Including qualifiers, Cologne will be the 64th different team Wenger has faced in European competition as Arsenal manager - he has registered at least one win over 56 of the previous 63 (89 per cent).
  • Lacazette has been involved in 10 goals in his last 10 starts in the Europa League (eight goals, two assists).
  • Of players to have featured in the Europa League for at least 600 minutes since 2009/10, Mesut Ozil has the best minutes per assist ratio, averaging an assist every 110 minutes. Ozil featured in the 2009/10 Europa League, assisting six goals in eight matches for Werder Bremen.
  • In three of Arsenal's last four European competition campaigns outside of the Champions League, the Gunners have reached the final - 1994 and 1995 Cup Winners' Cups and 2000 UEFA Cup final.
Betting:
Arsenal are just 4/9 with Sky Bet to make a winning start to their Europa League campaign, with Cologne up against odds of 11/2, while the draw is priced at 7/2. The Gunners are joint outright favourites at 7/1 alongside AC Milan, while their German opponents are given a 33/1 chance. Lacazette and Olivier Giroud head the first goalscorer betting at 11/4 apiece, while Artjoms Rudnevs is considered the visitors' main threat at 10/1 to open the scoring.

Pre-Match Thread: Arsenal vs. Red Star Belgrade - Europa League

Arsenal vs. Red Star Belgrade
Competition: Europa League
Kick-off: 8:05pm BST, Thursday, November, 2nd
Location: Emirates Stadium, London
Team news:
Arsenal:
  • Shkodran Mustafi (hamstring), Sead Kolasinac (hip), Santi Cazorla (ankle), Danny Welbeck and David Ospina (both groin) will all play no part against Red Star.
Red Star Belgrade:
  • For the visitors, left-back Milan Rodic is serving a one-match suspension after picking up a red card when the two clubs met last month.
Opta stats:
  • Arsenal's win in Belgrade was their first in three meetings with Crvena Zvezda - they also met in the 1978-79 UEFA Cup last 16 when Arsenal were eliminated after they lost 1-0 on the road and then drew 1-1 Highbury
  • Arsenal have only ever won their opening four games in the group stages of European competition once - winning their first five in the 2005-06 Champions League en route to the final
  • The Gunners are unbeaten in all six of their home UEFA Cup/Europa League games under Arsene Wenger, winning the last five in a row after drawing with PAOK Salonika in 1997-98
  • Arsenal have only failed to score in one of their last 26 games in European competition, with that failure coming at the Emirates against Barcelona in February 2016 (0-2)
  • Olivier Giroud has been directly involved in eight goals in his last eight starts in Europe for Arsenal (seven goals, one assist)
Betting:
  • Arsenal are Sky Bet's 1/3 favourites for the victory, with Crvena Zvezda up against odds of 8/1 to win and 9/2 to leave the Emirates with a point. The Gunners are even shorter odds to win Group H and 11/2 outright favourites. Giroud heads the first goalscorer betting at 11/4, despite not being considered Wenger's first-choice option for Premier League action, while Richmond Boakye is rated the visitors' main threat at 8/1 to net first.

Are these World Cup bets worth it?

World Cup Tips & Predictions
Alright lads, here we go! As I’m writing this we are 7 days away from the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and to say I’m excited is an understatement!! Over the course of this article I will be giving my predictions and tips for the tournament and my reasoning behind them. Some really nice bets lined up and I will be doing daily tips once the tournament starts. Also just want to mention that I am working on a video explaining a strategy where you make 100 6 cent attempts to predict the exact finish of each group where the returns range from anywhere from 14k all the way up to 250k, all for a total investment of €6! (Iea was taken from a post on this subreddit) So it is definitely worth a try. Just before we start, depending on where you are reading this you can follow my progress and my other tips for the tournament on my twitter page @TheProfitBets. So without further ado, let’s get into my World Cup predictions!
Winner: France @ 13/2
The main bet most people will look towards before any major tournament is “Who is going to win it?” so it’s only right that we start things off here. France are 4th favourites for the tournament behind Argentina, Germany and Brazil. So why do I fancy France over others? First of all, let’s look at talent. France are truly blessed at the moment talent-wise and an XI of players France aren’t bringing to Russia would put many other National teams to shame. In each position France have World Class players from Llorris in goals to Kante, Pogba (On his day), Mbappe and star-man Antoine Griezmann (who we will hear more from later). They have many different options off the bench also and can approach games in many different ways with players like Giroud, Matuidi, Fekir and Tolisso all offering something different. This squad is largely similar to the squad that narrowly lost out in Extra-Time to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final so tournament experience is something France have in their favour, even given the youthful look of their squad. France are in Group C with Denmark, Australia and Peru and are expected to progress with ease to the Round of 16. Where they will likely face Uruguay, before a possible gauntlet run to the final where they would possibly have to beat Portugal, Brazil and Germany before lifting the trophy. A tough run no doubt but with the huge depths of talent at their disclosure I think that the French can go all the way. The reason I fancy France over others is because of that depth of squad, which can only be rivalled by Germany, who France beat 2-0 in the Euro 2016 Semi-Final. The likes of Argentina and Brazil are reliant on a couple of players and if Messi/Neymar were to have a bad day or get injured, their teams likely would not be able to pick up the pieces (*see Neymar’s absence vs Germany in 2014 and Messi carrying Argentina through qualification). This leaves me at a toss-up between France and Germany, which I find very hard to call but have leaned towards France. France are currently priced at 13/2 in most bookmakers.
Top Goalscorer: Antoine Griezmann @ 13/1
I’ve gone for Antoine Griezmann to be top goalscorer at this year’s World Cup. His finishing is deadly and his pace and eye for goal is among the best in World football at the moment. Griezmann won the golden boot at Euro 2016 with 6 goals and is coming off a season where he scored 27 goals, including 2 in the Europa League Final. The main reason I’ve picked Griezmann is because of the group France are in. France are likely to put plenty of goals past Australia, Denmark and Peru and we could easily see the Atletico man score a few in the group stage. Griezmann is also France’s penalty taker which will probably see him scoring at least one or two goals from the spot throughout the tournament. Although Griezmann is my pick for top goalscorer other honourable mentions include Neymar @ 12/1, Timo Werner @ 20/1 and Thomas Muller @ 33/1 (World Cup Muller!). Overall though I feel the Frenchman is a good bet for the golden boot.
Group winners/to qualify ACCA @ 11.6/1
Now that we have done the two main outright single bets, let’s look at some multiple selections. This bet I look at who I think will win or qualify from each group to make a nice looking 11.6/1 accumulator. This is nicely priced and will provide entertainment for each game in the group stages.
Group A – Uruguay to win group @ 10/11
Group B – Portugal to qualify @ 4/11
Group C – France to win group @ 1/3
Group D – Argentina to qualify @ 1/7
Group E – Brazil to win group @ 2/7
Group F – Germany to win group @ 2/5
Group G – Belgium & England to qualify @ 2/9
Group H – Columbia to qualify @ 4/9
I think this looks a great bet. Uruguay will play an Egypt side without Mo Salah and should have too much for Saudi Arabia and Russia. Portugal should beat Iran and Morocco to get out of the group. We have already looked at France. Argentina should qualify from their group however it is a tricky group so feel free to leave them out as 1/7 is an awful price I think. Brazil should see off the Swiss, Serbians and Costa Rica to finish top of Group E. Germany should be well able to see off Korea, Sweden and Mexico. Belgium and England will surely breeze past Tunisia and Panama while Columbia should get out of a tricky group with Poland Senegal and Japan. This is one of my favourite bets for the tournament so let’s hope it goes our way!
Last place treble @ 5.6/1
This is a nice little treble where I look at teams who I think will finish bottom of their groups.
Group A – Saudi Arabia to finish last @ 2/5
Group B – Iran to finish last @ 10/11
Group H – Japan to finish last @ 3/2
Saudi Arabia are competing in their 5th World Cup and their first since 2006. They are in Group A alongside Uruguay, Egypt & Russia. On paper they look to be the weakest team in the group and they will open the tournament against hosts Russia. Every other team in their group has far superior players and a last place finish looks likely for the Saudi’s. Iran are in Group B with Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Again, Iran are by far the weakest team on paper and it is hard to see them getting a result from either game with Spain or Portugal and will likely not have enough to challenge a Moroccan side with players such as Benatia and Ziyech. 10/11 looks a great price here. Japan are in Group H with Columbia, Poland and Senegal. They were in Columbia’s group in 2014 where they lost out 4-1. I think Poland and Senegal will also have too much for the Japanese and I see them finishing bottom of the group. Overall, 5.6/1 looks a decent price for this bet and looks to be great value.
Group Games ACCA @ 18/1
More of a fun bet that looks good on paper so I’m not going to go through each selection here as it is an 11 fold! But nonetheless here it is!
France to beat Australia @ 2/9
Brazil to beat Switzerland @ 4/11
Belgium to beat Panama @ 1/7
England to beat Tunisia @ 4/11
Columbia to beat Japan @ 3/4
Uruguay to beat Saudi Arabia @ 1/4
Spain to beat Iran @ 1/5
France to beat Peru @ 4/11
Belgium to beat Tunisia @ 1/4
England to beat Panama @ 2/9
Portugal to beat Iran @ 1/3
Group Game MEGA ACCA @ 127/1!!
This one is a bit of a stretch to say the least but I’ve put a free bet on it for some excitement.
Uruguay to beat Egypt @ 4/7
Portugal vs Spain over 1.5 goals @ 2/5
France to beat Australia @ 2/9
Croatia to beat Nigeria @ 5/6
Brazil to beat Switzerland @ 2/5
Belgium to beat Panama @ 1/7
England to beat Tunisia @ 4/11
Columbia to beat Japan @ 3/4
Portugal to beat Morocco @ 8/15
Uruguay to beat Saudi Arabia @ 1/4
Spain to beat Iran @ 1/5
France to beat Peru @ 4/11
England to beat Panama @ 1/5
Portugal to beat Iran @ 1/3
Spain to beat Morocco @ 4/11
Jesus that was a mouthful! Going to be hard to land that one but that is not the focus of my tips for the tournament by any means!
Best Value Bets
Here are some bets that I feel offer great value whether you back them as singles or in multiples.
Columbia to beat Japan @ 3/4
Iran to finish bottom of Group B @ 10/11
Croatia to beat Nigeria @ 5/6
Egypt to score vs Russia @ 4/7
Egypt to beat Saudi Arabia @ 8/11
Brazil & Serbia to qualify from Group E @ 6/4
Portugal & Spain to qualify from Group B @ 4/9
My favourite bets are the 11.6/1 bet and the 5.6/1 treble but what I’m most excited about for the World Cup is the 6 cent bets which we will look at in the next article. Thanks for reading and be sure to give me some feedback or have some discussion on my twitter @TheProfitBets. Cheers!

Europa League teams prepare for the quarterfinals

Now that the remaining teams are within striking distance of the quarterfinals, the interest for the Europa League has increased. There are a couple of strong contenders for the titles, including the reigning champions, so there are not going to take this remaining game slightly. While half of the games are two lopsided to present any interest to football fans, punters will still pay attention to everything that happens on the pitch. Betsafe gives them a compelling argument, by offering great odds on the outcomes. Shakhtar will play against Anderlecht ends credited with the first chance to advance the next stage, with bookmakers expecting the Ukrainians to win the first leg. Dortmund is also favored by bookies, despite the fact that they play against Tottenham which is in great form. The English side was more concerned about winning the Premier League and that's why their resources will be diverted towards the domestic competition. There also less likely to win on the road but will give their best in front of their fans. Sevilla plays on the road and the reigning champions are known for their inability to defeat other teams are they don't have home pitch advantage. Lazio can definitely relate to their struggles away from home and the Italian side is going to those its efforts in Prague. Both teams are expected to win the second leg, so punters should refrain from betting on their victory outright. A better solution would be to trust them to claim at least one point and these bets would make a great accumulator. By far the most exciting games are the ones played between Spanish teams, with Athletic Bilbao taking on Valencia. They've already defeated them last month by three goals to none and this time they also have home pitch advantage which means a great deal. Villarreal will also play the first leg in front of its fans and takes on Leverkusen, a team that used to play in the Champions League. Unfortunately for them, they are completely out of form and will have a hard time containing the threat posed by the Spaniards. Elsewhere, Fenerbahce was pit against the very difficult opponent as Sporting Lisbon is quite capable of winning games away from home. The Turkish side has the advantage of leading the domestic league by two points, yet Beiktas has a gaming hand. Sporting is in the same situation after failing to defeat Benfica over the weekend and both teams will do their very best to win the domestic championship. This is the kind of game that punters should avoid or at least bet on fewer than 2.5 goals. Last but definitely not least, the English rivalry is reignited when Liverpool takes on Manchester United for a chance to make the quarterfinals. Since both of them are out of the race on the domestic front, they can throw everything they've got in this fight. This is a game that could go either way, but it makes sense to bet Liverpool,…

Advice on outright bet

Basically a while back out on a threefold of outrights for the FA cup, Champions League, and Europa League, picked Chelsea, Real Madrid and Atletico respectively, it returns around 1.6k. This is a lot for me, usually only bet 1-2 pounds don’t have much money atm being a student in my overdraft. Anyone got any advice on if/when I should counter bet so I am guaranteed some money? Thanks in advance.

Europa League Betting Tips: Dortmund Remain the Team to Beat despite Tough Draw

Europa League Betting Tips: Dortmund Remain the Team to Beat despite Tough Draw

One of the best decisions that UEFA have made in recent years is to grant the winner of the Europa League an automatic place in the Champions League the following season. This has turned a competition that was in danger of becoming a non-entity into something worth winning; and fans and punters alike have been rewarded with a last 16 line-up here that contains some of the biggest names in European football.
The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool and holders Sevilla will battle it out for honours, and while for the former pair a Champions League place in 2016/17 it likely to be secured through their fine domestic form, the latter trio is still sweating on their ability to finish in the upper echelons of their respective league tables.
With most of the sides left in the competition quite fancying their chances of winning, we can bet with more confidence that their motivation levels are suitably high. So here are some betting tips to ponder:

Outright Winner

Straight off the bat we have to fancy Borussia Dortmund to win the tournament, and so they are the best of the football betting tips from Bet Advisor today. Available at 5.00, we have to remember that the German outfit are five points behind the unstoppable Bayern Munich but a full fourteen ahead of third-placed Hertha Berlin. They may be destined to finish in the Champions League places, but don’t expect to see them resting key players when their Europa League fixtures come round; a crucial distinction.
Sevilla will defend their trophy with gusto of course, but their away form in La Liga (no win in 14) suggests they may lack the quality to get the job done over two legs.
Of the English trio it is perhaps Liverpool who stand out at 12.00. They don’t have any pressure on them domestically, so can pour all their resources into lifting the silverware. They have a decent pedigree in Europe in recent years too.

Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham

One of the ties of the last 16 is undoubtedly this clash between the second-placed teams in the Bundesliga and Premier League respectively. Despite their symmetry in terms of league position, the actual nature of their campaigns couldn’t be more different.
Dortmund are on easy street domestically, and quite frankly are scoring goals for fun at the moment – averaging more than two per game.
Spurs, meanwhile, have a particularly stressful situation to deal with; they could, mathematically, still either win the Premier League title or finish below their bitter rivals Arsenal in third. Either way, Tottenham’s focus will be on domestic duties, and that’s good enough reason to back Dortmund to win this tie as part of your football betting tips at 1.63.

Liverpool v Manchester United

Those in the know believe that the team that hosts the first leg of a two-legged fixture boast the power. That’s mainly because they can head into the second leg in complete control of their own situation – whether that’s to defend a lead or find an away goal or two. With away goals being such a commodity in tightly-contested encounters, we would have to say that Liverpool hold the aces here.
This isn’t a vintage Liverpool outfit by any means, but four wins in their last six will have buoyed Jurgen Klopp and his troops. Playing against their most detested rivals – arguably more so than Everton in some circles – will bring the best out of the Anfield crowd, and this Manchester United appears to be lacking the kind of leadership that will help them cope with such a raucous occasion.
As such, we’re happy to back Liverpool to progress to the quarter finals at 2.00.

Basel v Sevilla

The gulf in class between these two sides is clear, but given their respective home/away form we’re happy to give Basel a chance here.
The Swiss league leaders have won 10 of their 11 home matches this term, while Sevilla have failed to win in 14 on the road (nine draws, five defeats). Basel drew with Fiorentina on home soil – and they are no mugs – in the group phase of this competition, while the Spanish side lost all of their three Champions League away matches; conceding eight goals in the process.
Supporting Basel in the Double Chance bracket at 1.73 looks a sensible investment.

England Premier League and Championship - Betting tips for 5.11.2017

England Premier League + Championship

POTD Event: Manchester City - Arsenal Prediction: Arsenal +1.50 Odds: 1.86 Stake: 1U
Man City have no new injury problems and are very close to full strength, with just Kompany and Mendy out, neither of whom are being missed given the current form of the team, even if they would be first choice if available. Minor changes are likely from midweek, Walker, David Silva and Gabriel Jesus all being in line for recalls, leaving the team a little stronger and more balanced overall. They're in superb form coming into the game, having won their last 14 in all competitions, which makes the -1.25 handicap justifiable, even if Arsenal will pose a very tough task. Only a win will please and with current momentum they'd be disappointed with less, taking the game to their visitors with an attacking approach. If they go behind, crossing the line could be a little harder. With a full strength attack at their disposal, they'll feel they have what it takes to break down the Arsenal defence on a couple of occasions, and even if ahead they'll not ease up or play cautiously. The 3.5 total goals line reflects this as it could be an open game for long stretches. If Man City trail, a lot of risks would be taken, leading to chances at either end as a defeat isn't acceptable.
Arsenal are expected to be at full strength for the trip to Man City, but will need to take a late decision on Kolasinac, who has been struggling with a slight groin issue. He's trained and is expected to be fine though. They rotated heavily as normal in midweek, but are likely to revert back to the line-up from the previous league game, which is their best available, with no key players out. Away form has been fairly poor by Arsenal's standards this season, and though they need to get a result to keep touch with the top teams, a +1.25 handicap is about right considering the form of their hosts. A draw would please but they'll turn up and look to assert themselves on the game with intent to win. Confidence could drain if they go behind though, so scoring first will be important. With their attacking threat they'll feel they can cause enough problems to work chances against Man City, with the 3.5 total goals line suggesting an open game. Their natural approach makes them vulnerable in transition, and though they'd become a little more conservative if leading, it's not their true strength to be defensive and play on the back foot for long spells.
Arsenal have been going along quite nicely of late, winning eight of their last ten in all competitions, though this does include some mediocre Europa League opponents. Regardless, it has built momentum and belief in the squad, and they'll travel to Man City with plenty of confidence. Given the form of their hosts and the relatively poor away league form shown by Arsenal up until now, they'd be more than happy to come away with a draw, which would be a considerable feat at this stage. They won't fear Man City, and there won't be any lack of motivation.
Event: Everton - Watford Prediction: Everton -0.25 Odds: 1.86 Stake: 1U
Everton continue to have a number of injury problems coming into the match, but only Martina is a new absence and doesn't weaken. Keane is the main concern but is expected to return and could replace Williams in defence, which is a slight positive. Senior players rested in the Europa League midweek will also be recalled, with Unsworth sending out his best team in search of turning form around. Despite their desperately poor form, Everton come into the game as slight favourites with a -0.25 handicap, but with belief in the group so low, it won't be easy at all to overcome this and take a win against an away strong Watford. Only a win pleases and the players should be plenty motivated, Unsworth describing the game as a cup final, but if they trail they could crumble. Goals haven't been easy to come by for Everton this season, and with their need to get a win more than impress with a performance, the 2.5 total goals line is just about fair. If they go behind they'd have no choice but to open up and really attack, as anything but a win is a massive failure and deepens the crisis at the club. If they lead, they'd be very likely to drop in and become very cautious.
Watford have some concerning team news as five players who would be seen as first team regulars will miss out. However, just one change is likely from the previous game as Gray replaces the suspended Deeney in a neutral change in attack. Further rotation with a weakened squad would leave the team worse off, making changes in personnel unlikely. Despite their team news, Watford will be feeling fairly confident of their chances coming into the game, having been very strong on their travels so far. They're fresher and in better spirits than Everton, and will feel they can get at least a draw to overcome the +0.25 handicap. They'll be content to play on the break and won't open up unless trailing by one in the final few minutes. With a strong threat on the counter attack, Watford will feel they can trouble the Everton defence with regularity. They'll aim to start quickly and try to unsettle a confidence hit and nervy opponent. If they got in front they'd dig in and defend, making it harder for the 2.5 goals line to be crossed, though they'd keep playing forward on the counter whenever they get the opportunity.
With their need to win, Everton may look to be a little more expansive in their approach for this game, but a 4-3-3 system looks most likely, as above all they can't afford to lose or be left trailing early on. They lack confidence, so starting the game solidly at the back should be the first step. If they go behind they'll likely struggle to even take a point from the game, having lacked cutting edge and firepower in front of goal. Real risks would be taken as they need a win, but to get anything from this clash in all likelihood they would need to score first and consolidate. It is also important to mention that they left all the best player at home for the midweek match in Lyon and something like this could be proven crucial to secure a win.
Event: Middlesbrough - Sunderland Prediction: Middlesbrough -0.75 Odds: 1.88 Stake: 1U
Middlesbrough are slightly sweating on the fitness of left back Fabio, who has been struggling with illness. He was due to train on Friday, so he should be fine. Friend waits on standby, and is an excellent alternative to have. Considering Middlesbrough are in good recent form, no changes are anticipated unless any late issues materialise. Gestede remains the only injured player in the squad. Quite a high -0.75 handicap has been afforded to Middlesbrough ahead of this clash. The doubts are that this is a big local derby and it could easily turn into a tight and scrappy affair. Middlesbrough haven't lost to Sunderland since 2008, so the fans will contribute to a big atmosphere. That'll help and recent form is much stronger. Middlesbrough are rightly favourites and should win. Most of Middlesbrough's matches have been low-scoring affairs, so beating a 2.25 total goals line could be tough. Sunderland are lacking goals and whilst they concede many, they will be motivated and harder to break down. Middlesbrough aren't known for scoring many themselves, plus defensively they remain well-organised and hard to penetrate on a regular basis.
Sunderland begin life post-Simon Grayson with Browning, Vaughan and Maja the only injured players. Changes are expected to be made by McKinlay and Stockdale, just to offer a lift and some freshness. Steele, Jones, Cattermole and Watmore could all be recalled into the starting eleven as they are characters where this local derby will mean a lot to them on a personal level. Sometimes a change of manager brings an improvement in the squad as the players know they now have a new man to impress to stay at the club with the January window not far away. Recent form is simply terrible but Sunderland do prefer playing away from home. They've drawn four of their last five, so they haven't been used to losing in recent weeks at least. A win looks unlikely at a +0.75 handicap. A very bad defensive record has contributed towards mostly matches involving at least three goals. A repeat could see Middlesbrough have a great day and beat the 2.25 goal line outright themselves. The tight nature of local derbies though may mean more of a tactical game whereby fewer chances are created. Middlesbrough can be frustrated at home, so Sunderland aren't without hope.
Middlesbrough enter this local derby in high spirits on the back of two fine away victories. The pressure will be on them in this game as they are viewed as the better team at this moment. Depending on results on Saturday, a victory could take Middlesbrough into a play-off position.
So in short, 3 bets:
Arsenal +1.50
Everton -0.25
Middlesbrough -0.75
I would also like to mention, that Arsenal are undervalued at anything over 7.00(my model shows "real" odds at around 5.00 - 5.30), so if you want a bet at bigger odds, go for it.
Good luck! Previous results(a couple of leagues and sports missing, taking quite a bit of time to get everything in excel).

SCHOLES: UNITED NOT CONTENDERS

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes does not believe his former club have the quality to challenge Manchester City or Liverpool in the Premier League this season.
"When you look at Manchester City, possibly Liverpool, I don't think they [United] have the quality of those two teams at the minute. Liverpool have made some really good signings. United finished above them last season," said Scholes, speaking in Hong Kong.
"I just don't see United getting closer to City. City are a really good side, great manager, some great players, a way of playing that they all know about and Manchester United seem to be not too sure what's going on.
"You don't really know the team, you don't really know the players, you don't know how they're going to perform from one week to the next. So I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see them challenging for the league this year."

"We know if John is here he is a plus for the team, he is a good player. So we are without John but we are still here and we still have the quality of player to do well.

Everton vs Southampton odds, preview and predictions 04/04/2015

Saturday 04/04/2015, 16:00, England Premiership, Round 31 Everton vs Southampton Preview Everton were eliminated from Europa League and they suffered the same fate in the domestic cup, so the only have the domestic championship to focus on. The team sank in the second half of the standings and is not threatened by relegation, so motivation is at its lowest and they are unlikely to play their a-game tonight. By contrast, Southampton is still clinging on its chances to make the Champions League groups. Everton vs Southampton Odds At Winner Sports Everton 2.50, Draw 3.40, Southampton 2.90 Everton vs Southampton Tips Southampton had four players missing throughout March, but even so they managed to avoid defeat in all the games played and won twice. Both victories occurred at home, so they will be hard pressed to claim their first points on the road when they travel to Liverpool. Everton had a hard time keeping clean sheets recently and even though they managed to score in virtually every game, the defensive effort was subpar. With only two players missing but both of them defenders, the hosts will be vulnerable in their own half and Southampton has the strikers capable of finding the wide breaches in their defenses. Everton vs Southampton Prediction Bold punters can bet on the visiting team to prevail outright, but if you want to mitigate the risks, take the safety net of a 0:0 Asian handicap. If the visitors fail to win on the road and the game ends undecided, you are stakes will be returned, so you won't take unnecessary chances. Bet: Southampton Draw no Bet @ 1.85 with Winner Sports

Molde vs Sevilla odds, preview and predictions

Thursday 25/02/2016, 20:45, Europa League, Last 32 Molde vs Sevilla Preview Molde is mired in a lengthy losing streak of six consecutive games, but most of them were friendly matches. It goes without saying that the interest in winning these fixtures is dwarfed by the necessity to test players. The Norwegian team already lost the first leg of the Europa League against the reigning champions and is virtually eliminated from the competition. Molde vs Sevilla Odds At Paddy Power Molde 4.80, Draw 3.80, Sevilla 1.60 Molde vs Sevilla Tips After dropping the first match in Spain, Molde can only hope to wash away some of the misery by winning the second leg. It's not going to be easy against the team that won more Europa League trophies than any other squad on the old continent. Having said this, the Norwegians have an ace in their sleeves and will try to make the most of the favorable circumstances. The home side is about to resume the regular season and it has all its players fit to play and will field the best starting formation. The footballers are hoping to prove their quality on the pitch and in doing so, convince the manager that they are worth a place in the first 11. By comparison, Sevilla is a more pragmatic team and the priority is to advance in the European competition, while also securing a Champions League berth. Even though this might prove to be a bridge too far after failing to win any game on the road in La Liga, they are not going to give up. Over the weekend, they scored two early goals on the road against Rayo only to allow the home team to level the score in the second half and split points. Sevilla will travel to Barcelona on Sunday to play against the reigning champions and the most powerful Spanish team right now. They will need their best players in great condition to have a chance and is unlikely for these key footballers to travel to Norway. Key Facts Molde players will give everything in this match, while the visitors are already thinking about the Sunday derby. Sevilla is already qualified for the next stage and they will rest key players, gladly settling for one point. Molde vs Sevilla Prediction Even though it doesn't sound like a good idea to bet against the reigning champions and one of the best teams in Europa League, this is the time to go against Sevilla. They might be the better team, but they are not motivated enough to win in Norway and that's why the right thing to do is to bet on the home side to win or draw. Paddy Power offers excellent odds of 2.20 for this outcome and risk-averse punters should take it at full stakes, while those who are not afraid of a bit of a challenge can even bet on the hosts win outright. Basel vs St Etienne odds, preview and predictions

Thursday 25/02/2016, 20:45, Europa League, Last 32 Basel vs St Etienne Preview The first leg between St. Etienne and Basel was a roller coaster, with a total of five goals scored and a victory for the French. It was a surprising turn of events, since the home side is known for being pragmatic and scoring few goals while defending brilliantly. It is fortunate for them that they managed to win in front of their fans, because they can now settle for one point on the road. Basel vs St Etienne Odds At Expekt Basel 1.90, Draw 3.80, St Etienne 3.80 Basel vs St Etienne Tips St. Etienne is still trying to finish on the podium in the French first division and was on the verge of overtaking Nice this weekend. By allowing a goal late in the match, they squandered valuable points and also missed out on a rare opportunity to win in southern France. It would've been the first time in history when they defeated Marseille at home, so they need to postpone that objective for 2017. Meanwhile, the team is struggling with injuries and will rest a couple of players when they travel to Switzerland. They return to their basic strategy and hope that they can weather the storm by defending for 90 minutes. The midfield is the most affected by a wave of injuries, but the backline is also accusing fatigue and the goal allowed against Marseille was the result of players performing at less than 100%. By comparison, the hosts can focus exclusively on Europa league, because they have a significant advantage over the pack in the domestic championship. There are almost guaranteed to win the trophy once again, so they will throw everything they've got at visiting team. Basel plays offensive football both at home and on the road, so it was not exactly surprising that they score twice in France. This time, they need to do a better job defensively and the backline will feature for players, while Janko and Embolo will spearhead the offensive. The Austrian striker has scored 13 goals in 16 games, so he will be a major threat for St. Etienne. Key Facts The visitors have bigger fish to fry and will not change outright victory in Switzerland, but try to capitalize on the first leg win. Basel takes the Europa League very seriously and tries to make a deep run in this tournament. Basel vs St Etienne Prediction Punters shouldn't be impressed by the fact that St. Etienne scored three goals in the first leg, because things got out of hand printed only in that match. This is going to be a very different game, with the Swiss side taking the initiative early on, so it is worth trusting them to win at odds of 1.90 offered by Expekt. Bet: Basel @ 1.90 with Expekt

Sevilla vs Levante odds, preview and predictions

Sunday 31/01/2016, 12:00, Spain Primera Division, Round 22 Sevilla vs Levante Preview Sevilla is a force to be reckoned with when it has home pitch advantage, winning 11 games in a row, including major victories over Barcelona and Juventus. They would settle for nothing less than a convincing triumph over Levante when the two teams meet on Sunday at noon. The visitors are hard-pressed to pick up points on the road, otherwise they will relegate at the end of the season. Sevilla vs Levante Odds At Pinnacle Sports Sevilla 1.35, Draw 4.60, Levante 10.00 Sevilla vs Levante Tips Levante sits in the last place and it was unable to climb above the relegation area since the beginning of the season. Despite their abysmal performance on the road, they managed to win a handful of extremely useful points when they had home pitch advantage. They defeated both Las Palmas and Rayo Vallecano, teams that are also trying to avoid relegation, which makes them direct counter candidates.Meanwhile, they were disappointing on the road and alternated games with no goals scored, with matches in which they allowed as many as four goals. Interesting enough, in most of these encounters they managed to prevent the opponents from taking the lead early on. At the end of the day, most of the defeats were narrow margin ones, but this only matters for statistics. Sevilla started the season so poorly that nobody gave them a chance to secure a Europa league berth, but they now have even higher expectations. Villarreal is eight points ahead but anything can happen in the remaining rounds if they managed to keep winning home games. In the most recent round, Sevilla denied Atletico Madrid a chance to consolidate his position at the top of the standings by drawing on the road. The two teams splitting points and the only real loss for the visitors is that Vitolo was sent off after seeing a red card. He will be missing in this match against Levante, yet manager Emery will have no problem in replacing him. Key Facts Sevilla has won more consecutive home games than any other team in the Spanish first division, while Levante is the worst traveling team. Sevilla has just one player injured and one suspended and no players will be rested. Sevilla vs Levante Prediction Sevilla is expected to come out firing on all cylinders, because they can't afford to drop points against a mediocre team such as Levante. That's why, punters would be better off trusting the home side to cover the spread of -1.5 goals and enjoy odds of 2.10 from Pinnacle Sports. The alternative would be to bet the hosts to prevail outright, but the odds for a straight victory are simply too low to consider. Bet: Sevilla -1.5 goals @ 2.10 with Pinnacle Sports

Aston Villa vs Liverpool odds, preview and predictions

Sunday 14/02/2016, 15:00, Premier League, Round 26 Aston Villa vs Liverpool Preview There is very little that Aston Villa can do to salvage the season after losing so many points both at home and on the road, yet the team from Birmingham won't stop trying. They sit in the last place and only managed to accumulate 16 points after 25 rounds and only a miracle can help them avoid relegation. Liverpool doesn't fare much better and they were recently eliminated from the FA cup as well, with the Europa League looming. Aston Villa vs Liverpool Odds At Betfair Aston Villa 4.70, Draw 3.50, Liverpool 1.80 Aston Villa vs Liverpool Tips Since Klopp took over, Liverpool was unable to return to the top and is on the verge of sleeping in the second half of the standings. Both at home and on the road the team has been mediocre to say the least and they are currently mired in a four-game winless streak. Even when they managed to score, their opponents somehow found the resources and energy to rebound and deprived them of victory. Perhaps the most frustrating result of this month is the 2-2 draw against Sunderland, in a match that Liverpool lead from start to finish. It was a shining example of how a better team can lose points due to the fact that players were not careful enough in the second half. They should learn from those mistakes and exercise constant pressure against Aston Villa regardless of the score. Football fans from Birmingham always flock into the stadium when Aston Villa is playing against one of the most prestigious teams in the English championship. Even though Liverpool is struggling both at home and on the road, their visit is not going to go unnoticed. It's very likely that the home side will throw everything his got at the visitors, knowing that next year they will probably play against mediocre teams. This presents Liverpool with a rare opportunity of scoring more goals, because they have a hard time winning against teams that defend with all lines. They will need to address a couple of pressing matters, such as the injuries sustained by for players including Brazilian star Coutinho. Key Facts Liverpool hasn't won in five games and the fans won't settle for a single point against Aston Villa. The home side has the worst record in the entire Premier League and home pitch advantage means little. Aston Villa vs Liverpool Prediction Liverpool will be playing offensive football despite the fact that they don't have the support of their fans and will settle for nothing less than outright victory. Odds of 1.80 are not that great given their recent results, but you can't hope for better value than these odds currently offered by Betfair. Bet: Liverpool @ 1.80 with Betfair

Manchester City vs Manchester United odds, preview and predictions

Sunday 20/03/2016, 17:00, Premier League, Round 30 Manchester City vs Manchester United Preview Few football games in the English Premier League generate as much enthusiasm as the Derby of Manchester. Back in the day, Manchester United was favorite to prevail both at home and on the road but things have changed and now their city rivals are credited in the first chance. Both teams have plenty to fight for, in addition to glory and tradition, because the winner will have a better chance at securing a Champions League berth. Manchester City vs Manchester United Odds At 10bet Manchester City 1.85, Draw 3.40, Manchester United 4.20 Manchester City vs Manchester United Tips Manchester City announced its intention to focus on the Champions League this season, a competition that they have never won. So far they are on the right track after causing the Swiss elimination Dynamo Kiev, but the most difficult opponents lie in wait. Until the European competition resumes, they need to focus on the Premier League and defend their position. The stakes are as high as they get, because if Manchester City fails to defend the fourth place, it won playing the most important European tournament next season. Not only Manchester United but also West Ham are trying to unseat them, so there are plenty of threats and tonight the hosts have a great opportunity to address one of them. Manchester United was eliminated from Europa League by Liverpool yet there is a silver lining to the entire story. Many of the players have returned to fitness and the starting formation features some of the veterans for the first time in many weeks. Even so, playing on the road is going to be problematic, as the Red Devils have won very few games when they didn't have home pitch advantage. They've lost back-to-back games against West Bromwich and Liverpool before splitting points with West ham and pushing the FA Cup into an additional round. As key players return to fitness, many of those who had to play plenty of games in 2016 are suffering from fatigue. They will need to play at highest potential if Manchester United is to avoid defeat at Etihad Stadium. Key Facts Overall the two teams are evenly matched with City winning 25 games at home and losing 26. Just two all the last 13 games ended undecided, with Manchester United winning six. Manchester City vs Manchester United Prediction This is not the kind of game in which the teams will play pragmatic football and they won't stop at attacking the opposing net regardless of score. It's a great opportunity for punters to bet on Manchester City to win outright, even though the odds offered by 10bet don't exceed 1.85. Bet: Manchester City @ 1.85 with 10bet

Looking back on my Pre-World Cup predictions

Hi lads, I posted this a few days before the World Cup. Thought it might be interesting to look back at it to see what I thought before the tournament and see how my predictions went. As you can see I predicted a France win but in the original post I was persuaded by people in the comments to go for Germany, which I did lol! Anyway just thought this might be an interesting read, let me know what you think!
Where they will likely face Croatia, before a possible gauntlet run to the final where they would possibly have to beat Portugal, Brazil and Germany before lifting the trophy.
Cheers

JusticeWilson - October 23, 2014

I will add some NHL plays later in the day. They have not been great lately, but I actually make more money with NHL then I do with soccer, historically.
My tracked and verified record is available here - https://fansunite.com/profile/TMussolani
UEFA Europa League: Everton FC At Lille
A quick look at the form charts would show that both of these sides are struggling. Having watched them play, I see two teams going in opposite directions. Lille are really struggling of late, despite not having lost yet in the Group Stage. They have just one win in their last seven matches, and none of those teams were of Everton’s caliber. Now, it’s unfair to single out how rarely Lille have won and not acknowledge that Everton have only won once in their last six. What I do like, however, is that their win was in their last match, right after the international break, in a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa. Everton finally seemed to click in that match, so I’m hopeful they will try and win tonight to carry on the momentum. They have taken a strong squad to France and should have plenty of support since it is only a four-hour train ride. They have taken a strong squad to France, and it seems like the return of Barkley has really added an element of creativity to the squad. Lille are in a very fragile state recently and lack the ability to come back if they fall a goal down. They do have Enyeama in goal, and he has been in extremely good form. I’m hoping Lukaku steps up as he has been disappointing this term, but even if he fails, I have a hard time seeing Everton losing this one. They are finally playing well again and really can’t afford to get a negative result tonight. They have been disappointing in the Premier League and need to get some positive momentum going. They are a stronger side, and Martinez is a brilliant manager. Worst case, I think this match ends in a draw. I’m going to take Everton PK (Draw No Bet, AH 0.0) @ 2.04 as my Pick of The Day
UEFA Europa League: Dinamo Zagreb At Salzburg
To me, this is certainly the most interesting game of the day. Salzburg are quite overrated in the sense that I see this match as much more of a coin flip then the odds are indicating. Salzburg has hired a new manager in Adi Hütter, and he is having some problems in implementing the fast paced, pressing, and purely attacking style that Red Bull likes their teams to play. They transferred out Mane, probably their best player, but they still have great attackers in Kampl, Soriano, and Alan. They play an unnaturally high defensive line, which can often lead to breaks for their opponents. Ramalho, in particular, has been prone to some egregious mistakes in defense lately. Salzburg always play an attacking style, but it’s their defense which will prohibit them from doing much in European competition. They are facing a very good Dinamo Zagreb side tonight, with some classy attackers themselves, like Soudani (who impressed at the World Cup) and Herniquez (from Manchester United). Unfortunately, top striker Cop is missing, but Herniquez will be eager to make his mark. Dinamo really impressed me against Celtic, and I believe they were the better side in that match. Even Salzburg manager Hütter is quoted as saying that he believes Dinamo is the favorite in the Group. Dinamo have the players to play on the counter attack and exploit the empty space behind Salzburg’s high defensive line. To me, there are two great bets on this game. I do think Dinamo have the ability to outright win this game and that there will be some goals due to the quality attackers on both sides, Salzburg’s playing style, and their susceptible defense. I’m going to take Over 3 Goals @ 1.83 AND Dinamo Zagreb +1 @ 1.99
UEFA Europa League: Feyenoord At Rijeka
Everyone knows Dinamo Zagreb as the top Croatian side, but in the past seasons, Rijeka has given them a run for their money. They are a very talented side and bring some real attacking prowess. In 12 games in the Croatian top flight they have 30 goals, with 9 wins. Sure, the Croatian top flight is dominated by Dinamo, Rijeka and Hajduk Split, but that’s still pretty impressive. Rijeka’s naivety was exploited by a poor Standard Liege side in the first group match, but they impressively handled a quality Sevilla side in Croatia. They managed to draw that game 2-2, and a similar score line tonight would be no surprise. Importantly for Rijeka, they will have Moises back for this match, and he really makes their side tick. I would really caution anyone from confidently backing Feyenoord in this match. Rijeka are no pushovers, and Feyenoord have their disastrous record of losing 6 of 7 away games in Europe over the past five years to contend with. Both of these sides trade goals domestically, and I don’t see why tonight’s European encounter would be any different. Rijeka are a much better side at home then they are away. I’m going to take Over 2.5 Goals @ 2.04
UEFA Europa League: Dynamo Kiev vs. Aalborg BK
Aalborg were a decent side up until the end of July. Since then, they have managed two wins in twelve matches. Importantly, one of those were against Rio Ave so they still have a good shot at qualifying from this Group. The issue now is that Kusk has left and they are really predictable in attack. They still have that tenacity, but they are struggling to score domestically, so facing a mature side like Dynamo is going to be an issue. They are a very physical side, and they will need that, but again, the opposition they are facing is not up to the standards of a quality Dynamo team. I really did want to take the over in this match due to Aalborg’s necessity to get a result tonight, but Dynamo Kiev can be overly professional in that they don’t necessarily try to put the other side away. A one goal victory is plenty. They have their star player Rebrov back, finally, and he has been the catalyst in raising the standard of play amongst the rest of the team. Everyone knows the quality of Shakthar Donetsk after the 7-0 beating they put on BATE in the Champions League on Tuesday, right? Well, Dynamo Kiev beat them 1-0 two weeks ago. Additionally, Dynamo Kiev only have a routine cup match on the weekend, so they should be fully attentive to this match. I’m going to take Dynamo Kiev to win @ 1.88
