Reminder: Do NOT buy from 3rd Party Marketplace Seller on Ebay/Amazon/Newegg (unless you want to pay more). Assume all the 3rd party sellers are scalping. If it's not being sold by the actual retailer (e.g. Amazon selling on Amazon.com or Newegg selling on Newegg.com) then you should treat the product as sold out and wait.
Below is the compilation of all the reviews that have been posted so far. I will be updating this continuously throughout the day with the conclusion of each publications and any new review links. This will be sorted alphabetically.
NVIDIA says that the RTX 3080 is the gaming card and the RTX 3090 is the hybrid creative card – but we respectfully disagree. The RTX 3090 is the flagship gaming card that can also run intensive creative apps very well, especially by virtue of its huge 24GB framebuffer. But it is still not an RTX TITAN nor a Quadro. These cards cost a lot more and are optimized specifically for workstations and also for professional and creative apps. However, for RTX 2080 Ti gamers who paid $1199 and who have disposable cash for their hobby – although it has been eclipsed by the RTX 3080 – the RTX 3090 Founders Edition which costs $1500 is the card to maximize their upgrade. And for high-end gamers who also use creative apps, this card may become a very good value. Hobbies are very expensive to maintain, and the expense of PC gaming pales in comparison to what golfers, skiers, audiophiles, and many other hobbyists pay for their entertainment. But for high-end gamers on a budget, the $699 RTX 3080 will provide the most value of the two cards. We cannot call the $1500 RTX 3090 a “good value” generally for gamers as it is a halo card and it absolutely does not provide anywhere close to double the performance of a $700 RTX 3080. However, for some professionals, two RTX 3090s may give them exactly what they need as it is the only Ampere gaming card to support NVLink providing up to 112.5 GB/s of total bandwidth between two GPUs which when SLI’d together will allow them to access a massive 48GB of vRAM. SLI is no longer supported by NVIDIA for gaming, and emphasis will be placed on mGPU only as implemented by game developers.
So there we have it. The RTX 3090 delivers - at best - 15 to 16 per cent more gaming performance than the RTX 3080. In terms of price vs performance, there is only one winner here. And suffice to say, we would expect to see factory overclocked RTX 3080 cards bite into the already fairly slender advantage delivered by Nvidia's new GPU king. Certainly in gaming terms then, the smart money would be spend on an RTX 3080, and if you're on a 1440p high refresh rate monitor and you're looking to maximise price vs performance, I'd urge you to look at the RTX 2080 Ti numbers in this review: if Nvidia's claims pan out, you'll be getting that and potentially more from the cheaper still RTX 3070. All of which raises the question - why make an RTX 3090 at all? The answers are numerous. First of all, PC gaming has never adhered to offering performance increases in line with the actual amount of money spent. Whether it's Titans, Intel Extreme processors, high-end motherboards or performance RAM, if you want the best, you'll end up paying a huge amount of money to attain it. This is only a problem where there are no alternatives and in the case of the RTX 3090, there is one - the RTX 3080 at almost half of the price. But more compelling is the fact that Nvidia is now blurring the lines between the gaming GeForce line and the prosumer-orientated Quadro offerings. High-end Quadro cards are similar to RTX 3090 and Titan RTX in several respects - usually in that they deliver the fully unlocked Nvidia silicon paired with huge amounts of VRAM. Where they differ is in support and drivers, something that creatives, streamers or video editors may not wish to pay even more of a premium for. In short, RTX 3090 looks massively expensive as a gamer card, but compared to the professional Quadro line, there are clear savings. In the meantime, RTX 3090 delivers the Titan experience for the new generation of graphics hardware. Its appeal is niche, the halo product factor is huge and the performance boost - while not exactly huge - is likely enough to convince the cash rich to invest and for the creator audience to seriously consider it. For my use cases, the extra money is obviously worth it. I also think that the way Nvidia packages and markets the product is appealing: the RTX 3090 looks and feels special, its gigantic form factor and swish aesthetic will score points with those that take pride in their PC looking good and its thermal and especially acoustic performance are excellent. It's really, really quiet. All told then, RTX 3090 is the traditional hard sell for the mainstream gamer but the high-end crowd will likely lap it up. But it leaves me with a simple question: where next for the Titan and Ti brands? You don't retire powerhouse product tiers for no good reason and I can only wonder: is something even more powerful cooking?
When we had our first experience with the GeForce RTX 3080, we were nothing short of impressed. Testing the GeForce RTX 3090 is yet another step up. But we're not sure if the 3090 is the better option though, as you'll need very stringent requirements in order for it to see a good performance benefit. Granted, and I have written this many times in the past with the Titans and the like, a graphics card like this is bound to run into bottlenecks much faster than your normal graphics cards. Three factors come into play here, CPU bottlenecks, low-resolution bottlenecks, and the actual game (API). The GeForce RTX 3090 is the kind of product that needs to be free from all three aforementioned factors. Thus, you need to have a spicy processor that can keep up with the card, you need lovely GPU bound games preferably with DX12 ASYNC compute and, of course, if you are not gaming at the very least in Ultra HD, then why even bother, right? The flipside of the coin is that when you have these three musketeers applied and in effect, well, then there is no card faster than the 3090, trust me; it's a freakfest of performance, but granted, also bitter-sweet when weighing all factors in. NVIDIA's Ampere product line up has been impressive all the way, there's nothing other to conclude than that. Is it all perfect? Well, performance-wise in the year 2020 we cannot complain. Of course, there is an energy consumption factor to weigh in as a negative factor and, yes, there's pricing to consider. Both are far too high for the product to make any real sense. For gaming, we do not feel the 3090 makes a substantial enough difference over the RTX 3080 with 10 to 15% differentials, and that's mainly due to system bottlenecks really. You need to game at Ultra HD and beyond for this card to make a bit of sense. We also recognize that the two factors do not need to make sense for quite a bunch of you as the product sits in a very extreme niche. But I stated enough about that. I like this chunk of hardware sitting inside a PC though as, no matter how you look at it, it is a majestic product. Please make sure you have plenty of ventilation though as the RTX 3090 will dump lots of heat. It is big but still looks terrific. And the performance, oh man... that performance, it is all good all the way as long as you uphold my three musketeers remark. Where I could nag a little about the 10 GB VRAM on the GeForce RTX 3080, we cannot complain even the slightest bit about the whopping big mac feature of the 3090, 24 GB of the fastest GDDR6X your money can get you, take that Flight Sim 2020! This is an Ultra HD card, in that domain, it shines whether that is using shading (regular rendered games) or when using hybrid ray-tracing + DLSS. It's a purebred but unfortunately very power-hungry product that will reach only a select group of people. But it is formidable if you deliver it to the right circumstances. Would we recommend this product? Ehm no, you are better off with GeForce RTX 3070 or 3080 as, money-wise, this doesn't make much sense. But it is genuinely a startling product worthy of a top pick award, an award we hand out so rarely for a reference or Founder product but we also have to acknowledge that NVIDIA really is stepping up on their 'reference' designs and is now setting a new and better standard.
This commentary puts the RTX 3090 into a difficult spot. It's 10 percent faster for gaming yet costs over twice as much as the RTX 3080. Value for money is poor when examined from a gaming point of view. Part of that huge cost rests with the 24GB of GDDR6X memory that has limited real-world benefit in games. Rather, it's more useful in professional rendering as the larger pool can speed-up time to completion massively. And here's the rub. Given its characteristics, this card ought to be called the RTX Titan or GeForce RTX Studio and positioned more diligently for the creatoprofessional community where computational power and large VRAM go hand in hand. The real RTX 3090, meanwhile, gaming focussed first and foremost, ought to arrive with 12GB of memory and a $999 price point, thereby offering a compelling upgrade without resorting to Titan-esque pricing. Yet all that said, the insatiable appetite and apparent deep pockets of enthusiasts will mean Nvidia sells out of these $1,500 boards today: demand far outstrips supply. And does it matter what it's called, how much memory it has, or even what price it is? Not in the big scheme of things because there is a market for it. Being part of the GeForce RTX firmament has opened up the way for add-in card partners to produce their own boards. The Gigabyte Gaming OC does most things right. It's built well and looks good, and duly tops all the important gaming charts at 4K. We'd encourage a lower noise profile through a relaxation of temps, but if you have the means by which to buy graphics performance hegemony, the Gaming OC isn't a bad shout... if you can find it in stock.
Summarizing the GeForce RTX 3090's performance is simple -- it's the single fastest GPU on the market currently, bar none. There's nuance to consider here, though. Versus the GeForce RTX 3080, disregarding CPU limited situations or corner cases, the more powerful RTX 3090's advantages over the 3080 only range from about 4% to 20%. Versus the Titan RTX, the GeForce RTX 3090's advantages increase to approximately 6% to 40%. Consider complex creator workloads which can leverage the GeForce RTX 3090's additional resources and memory, however, and it is simply in another class altogether and can be many times faster than either the RTX 3080 or Titan RTX. Obviously, the $1,499 GeForce RTX 3090 Founder's Edition isn't an overall value play for the vast majority of users. If you're a gamer shopping for a new high-end GPU, the GeForce RTX 3080 at less than 1/2 the price is the much better buy. Compared to the $2,500 Titan RTX or $1,300 - $1,500-ish GeForce RTX 2080 Ti though, the GeForce RTX 3090 is the significantly better choice. Your perspective on the GeForce RTX 3090's value proposition is ultimately going to depend on your particular use case. Unless they've got unlimited budgets and want the best-of-the-best, regardless of cost, hardcore gamers may scoff at the RTX 3090. Anyone utilizing the horsepower of the previous generation Titan RTX though, may be chomping at the bit. The GeForce RTX 3090's ultimate appeal is going to depend on the use-case, but whether or not you'll actually be able to get one is another story. The GeForce RTX 3090 is going to be available in limited quantities today -- NVIDIA said as much in yesterday's performance tease. NVIDIA pledges to make more available direct and through partners ASAP, however. We'll see how things shake out in the weeks ahead, and all bets are off when AMD's makes its RDNA2 announcements next month. NVIDIA's got a lot of wiggle room with Ampere and will likely react swiftly to anything AMD has in store. And let's not forget we still have the GeForce RTX 3070 inbound, which is going to have extremely broad appeal if NVIDIA's performance claims hold up.
In Summary: this card is a real giant, especially at higher resolutions, because even if the lead over the GeForce RTX 3080 isn’t always as high as dreamed, it’s always enough to reach the top position in playability. Right stop of many quality controllers included. Especially when the games of the GeForce RTX 3090 and the new architecture are on the line, the mail really goes off, which one must admit without envy, whereby the actual gain is not visible in pure FPS numbers. If you have looked at the page with the variances, you will quickly understand that the image is much better because it is softer. The FPS or percentiles are still much too coarse intervals to be able to reproduce this very subjective impression well. A blind test with 3 perons has completely confirmed my impression, because there is nothing better than a lot of memory, at most even more memory. Seen in this light, the RTX 3080 with 10 GB is more like Cinderella, who later has to make herself look more like Cinderella with 10 GB if she wants to get on the prince’s roller. But the customer always has something to complain about anyway (which is good by the way and keeps the suppliers on their toes) and NVIDIA keeps all options open in return to be able to top a possible Navi2x card with 16 GB memory expansion with 20 GB later. And does anyone still remember the mysterious SKU20 between the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3090? If AMD doesn’t screw it up again this time, this SKU20 is sure to become a tie-break in pixel tennis. We’ll see. For a long time I have been wrestling with myself, which is probably the most important thing in this test. I have also tested 8K resolutions, but due to the lack of current practical relevance, I put this part on the back burner. If anyone can find someone who has a spare 8K TV, I’ll be happy to do so, if only because I’m also very interested in 8K-DLSS. But that’s like sucking on an ice cream that you’ve only printed out on a laser printer before. The increase in value of the RTX 3090 in relation to the RTX 3080 for the only gamer is, up to the memory extension, to be rather neglected and one understands also, why many critics will never pay the double price for 10 to 15% more gaming performance. Because I wouldn’t either. Only this is then exactly the target group for the circulated RTX 3080 (Ti) with double memory expansion. Their price should increase visibly in comparison to the 10 GB variant, but still be significantly below that of a GeForce RTX 3090. This is not defamatory or fraudulent, but simply follows the laws of the market. A top dog always costs a little more than pure scaling, logic and reason would allow. And the non-gamer or the not-only-gamer? The added value can be seen above all in the productive area, whether workstation or creation. Studio is the new GeForce RTX wonderland away from the Triple A games, and the Quadros can slowly return to the professional corner of certified specialty programs. What AMD started back then with the Vega Frontier Edition and unfortunately didn’t continue (why not?), NVIDIA has long since taken up and consistently perfected. The market has changed and studio is no longer an exotic phrase. Then even those from about 1500 Euro can survive without a headache tablet again.
RTX 3080 was heralded by many as an excellent value graphics card, delivering performance gains of around 30% compared to the RTX 2080 Ti, despite being several hundred pounds cheaper. With the RTX 3090, Nvidia isn’t chasing value for money, but the overall performance crown. And that is exactly what it has achieved. MSI’s RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio, for instance, is 14% faster than the RTX 3080 and 50% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti, when tested at 4K. No other GPU even comes close to matching its performance. At this point, many of you reading this may be thinking something along the line of ‘well, yes, it is 14% faster than an RTX 3080 – but it is also over double the price, so surely it is terrible value?’ And you would be 100% correct in thinking that. The thing is, Nvidia knows that too – RTX 3090 is simply not about value for money, and if that is something you prioritise when buying a new graphics card, don’tbuy a 3090. Rather, RTX 3090 is purely aimed at those who don’t give a toss about value. It’s for the gamers who want the fastest card going, and they will pay whatever price to claim those bragging rights. In this case of the MSI Gaming X Trio, the cost of this GPU’s unrivalled performance comes to £1530 here in the UK. Alongside gamers, I can also see professionals or creators looking past its steep asking price. If the increased render performance of this GPU could end up saving you an hour, two hours per week, for many that initial cost will pay for itself with increased productivity, especially if you need as much VRAM as you can get.
As with any launch, the primary details are in the GPU itself, and so the first half of this conclusion is the same for both of the AIB RTX 3090 graphics cards that we are reviewing today. If you want to know specifics of this particular card, skip down the page. Last week we saw the release of the RTX 3080. A card that combined next-gen performance with a remarkably attractive price point, and was one of the easiest products to recommend we've ever seen. 4K gaming for around the £700 mark might be expensive if you're just used to consoles, but if you're a diehard member of the "PC Gaming Master Race", then you know how much you had to spend to achieve the magical 4K60 mark. It's an absolute no brainer purchase. The RTX 3090 though, that comes with more asterisks and caveats than a Lance Armstrong win on the Tour de France. Make no mistake; the RTX 3090 is brutally fast. If performance is your thing, or performance without consideration of cost, or you want to flex on forums across the internet, then yeah, go for it. For everyone else, and that's most of us, there is a lot it does well, but it's a seriously niche product. We can go to Nvidia themselves for their key phraseology. With a tiny bit of paraphrasing, they say "The RTX 3090 is for 8K gaming, or heavy workload content creators. For 4K Gaming the RTX 3080 is, with current and immediate future titles, more than enough". If you want the best gaming experience, then as we saw last week, the clear choice is the RTX 3080. If you've been following the results today then clearly the RTX 3090 isn't enough of a leap forwards to justify being twice the price of the RTX 3080. It's often around 5% faster, sometimes 10%, sometimes not much faster at all. Turns out that Gears 5 in particular looked unhappy but it was an 'auto' setting on animation increasing its own settings so we will go back with it fixed to ultra and retest. The RTX 3090 is still though, whisper it, a bit of a comedown after the heights of our first Ampere experience. To justify the staggering cost of the RTX 3090 you need to fit into one of the following groups; Someone who games at 8K, either natively or via Nvidia's DSR technology. Someone who renders enormous amounts of 3D work. We're not just talking a 3D texture or model for a game; we're talking animated short films. Although even here the reality is that you need a professional solution far beyond the price or scope of the RTX 3090. Lastly, it would be best if you were someone who renders massive, RAW, 8K video footage regularly and has the memory and storage capacity to feed such a voracious data throughput. If you fall into one of those categories, then you'll already have the hardware necessary - 8K screen or 8K video camera - that the cost of the RTX 3090 is small potatoes. In which case you'll love the extra freedom and performance it can bring to your workload, smoothing out the waiting that is such a time-consuming element of the creative process. This logic holds true for both the Gigabyte and MSI cards we're looking at on launch.
There’s no doubt that the $1,500 GeForce RTX 3090 is indeed a “big ferocious GPU,” and the most powerful consumer graphics card ever created. The Nvidia Founders Edition delivers unprecedented performance for 4K gaming, frequently maxes out games at 1440p, and can even play at ludicrous 8K resolution in some games. It’s a beast for 3440x1440 ultrawide gaming too, as our separate ultrawide benchmarks piece shows. Support for HDMI 2.1 and AV1 decoding are delicious cherries on top. If you’re a pure gamer, though, you shouldn’t buy it, unless you’ve got deep pockets and want the best possible gaming performance, value be damned. The $700 GeForce RTX 3080 offers between 85 and 90 percent of the RTX 3090’s 4K gaming performance (depending on the game) for well under half the cost. It’s even closer at 1440p. If you’re only worried about raw gaming frame rates, the GeForce RTX 3080 is by far the better buy, because it also kicks all kinds of ass at 4K and high refresh rate 1440p and even offers the same HDMI 2.1 and AV1 decode support as its bigger brother. Nvidia likes to boast that the RTX 3090 is the first 8K gaming card, and while that’s true in some games, it falls far short of the 60 frames per second mark in many triple-A titles. Consider 8K gaming a nice occasional bonus more than a core feature. If you mix work and play, though, the GeForce RTX 3090 is a stunning value—especially if your workloads tap into CUDA. It’s significantly faster than the previous-gen RTX 2080 Ti, which fell within spitting distance of the RTX Titan, and offers the same 24GB VRAM capacity of that Titan. But it does so for $1,000 less than the RTX Titan’s cost. The GeForce RTX 3090 stomps all over most of our content creation benchmarks. Performance there is highly workload-dependent, of course, but we saw speed increases of anywhere from 30 to over 100 percent over the RTX 2080 Ti in several tasks, with many falling in the 50 to 80 percent range. That’s an uplift that will make your projects render tangibly faster—putting more money in your pocket. The lofty 24GB of GDDR6X memory makes the RTX 3090 a must-have in some scenarios where the 10GB to 12GB found in standard gaming cards flat-out can’t cut it, such as 8K media editing or AI training with large data sets. That alone will make it worth buying for some people, along with the NVLink connector that no other RTX 30-series GPU includes. If you don’t need those, the RTX 3080 comes close to the RTX 3090 in raw GPU power in many tests.
NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3090 is an interesting card for many reasons, and it’s harder to summarize than the RTX 3080 was, simply due to its top-end price and goals. The RTX 3080, priced at $699, was really easy to recommend to anyone wanting a new top-end gaming solution, because compared to the last-gen 2080S, 2080 Ti, or even TITAN RTX, the new card simply trounced them all. The GeForce RTX 3090, with its $1,499 price tag, caters to a different crowd. First, there are going to be those folks who simply want the best gaming or creator GPU possible, regardless of its premium price. We saw throughout our performance results that the RTX 3090 does manage to take a healthy lead in many cases, but the gains over RTX 3080 are not likely as pronounced as many were hoping. The biggest selling-point of the RTX 3090 is undoubtedly its massive frame buffer. For creators, having 24GB on tap likely means you will never run out during this generation, and if you manage to, we’re going to be mighty impressed. We do see more than 24GB being useful for deep-learning and AI research, but even there, it’s plenty for the vast majority of users. Interestingly, this GeForce is capable of taking advantage of NVLink, so those wanting to plug two of them into a machine could likewise combine their VRAM, activating a single 48GB frame buffer. Two of these cards would cost $500 more than the TITAN RTX, and obliterate it in rendering and deep-learning workloads (but of course draw a lot more power at the same time). For those wanting to push things even harder with single GPU, we suspect NVIDIA will likely release a new TITAN at some point with even more memory. Or, that’s at least our hope, because we don’t want to see the TITAN series just up and disappear. For gamers, a 24GB frame buffer can only be justified if you’re using top-end resolutions. Not even 4K is going to be problematic for most people with a 10GB frame buffer, but as we move up the scale, to 5K and 8K, that memory is going to become a lot more useful. By now, you likely know whether or not the monstrous GeForce RTX 3090 is for you. Fortunately, if it isn’t, the RTX 3080 hasn’t gone anywhere, and it still proves to be of great value (you know – if you can find it in stock) for its $699 price. NVIDIA also has a $499 RTX 3070 en route next month, so all told, the company is going to be taking good care of its enthusiast fans with this trio of GPUs. Saying that, we still look forward to the even lower-end parts, as those could ooze value even more than the bigger cards.
Still, the performance offered by the RTX 3090 is impressive; the Gaming X is 53% faster than RTX 2080 Ti, 81% faster than RTX 2080 Super. AMD's Radeon RX 5700 XT is less than half as fast, the performance uplift vs the 3090 is 227%! AMD Big Navi better be a success. With those performance numbers RTX 3090 is definitely suited for 4K resolution gaming. Many games will run over 90 FPS, at highest details, in 4K, nearly all over 60, only Control is slightly below that, but DLSS will easily boost FPS beyond that. With RTX 3090 NVIDIA is introducing "playable 8K", which rests on several pillars. In order to connect an 8K display you previously had to use multiple cables, now you can use just a single HDMI 2.1 cable. At higher resolution, the VRAM usage goes up, RTX 3090 has you covered, offering 24 GB of memory, which is more than twice that of the 10 GB RTX 3080. Last but not least, on the software side, they added the capability to capture 8K gameplay with Shadow Play. In order to improve framerates (remember, 8K processes 16x the pixels as Full HD), NVIDIA created DLSS 8K, which renders the game at 1440p native, and scales the output by x3, in each direction, using machine learning. All of these technologies are still in its infancy, game support is limited and displays are expensive, we'll look into this in more detail in the future. 24 GB VRAM is definitely future-proof, but I'm having doubts whether you really need that much memory. Sure, more is always better, but unless you are using professional applications, you'll have a hard time finding a noteworthy difference between performance with 10 GB vs 24 GB. Games won't be an issue, because you'll run out of shading power long before you run out of VRAM, just like with older cards today, which can't handle 4K, no matter how much VRAM they have. Next-gen consoles also don't have as much VRAM, so it's hard to image that you'll miss out on any meaningful gaming experience if you have less than 24 GB VRAM. NVIDIA demonstrated several use cases in their reviewer's guide: OctaneRender, DaVinci Resolve and Blender can certainly benefit from more memory, GPU compute applications, too, but these are very niche use cases. I'm not aware of any creators who were stuck and couldn't create, because they ran out of VRAM. On the other hand the RTX 3090 could definitely turn out to be a good alternative to Quadro, or Tesla, unless you need double-precision math (you don't). Pricing of the RTX 3090 is just way too high, and a tough pill to swallow. At a starting price of $1500, it is more than twice as expensive as the RTX 3080, but not nearly twice as fast. MSI asking another $100 on top for their fantastic Gaming X Trio cooler, plus the overclock out of the box doesn't seem that unreasonable to me. We're talking about 6.6% here. The 6% performance increase due to factory OC / higher power limit can almost justify that, with the better cooler it's almost a no-brainer. While an additional 14 GB of GDDR6X memory aren't free, the $1500 base price still doesn't feel right. On the other hand, the card is significantly better than RTX 2080 Ti in every regard, and that sold for well over $1000, too. NVIDIA emphasizes that RTX 3090 is a Titan replacement—Titan RTX launched at $2500, so $1500 must be a steal for the new 3090. Part of the disappointment about the price is that RTX 3080 is so impressive, at such disruptive pricing. If RTX 3080 was $1000, then $1500 wouldn't feel as crazy—I would say $1000 is a fair price for the RTX 3090. Either way, Turing showed us that people are willing to pay up to have the best, and I have no doubt that all RTX 3090 cards will sell out today, just like RTX 3080. Obviously the "Recommended" award in this context is not for the average gamer. Rather it means, if you have that much money to spend, and are looking for a RTX 3090, then you should consider this card.
Let's be clear: the GeForce RTX 3090 is now the fastest GPU around for gaming purposes. It's also mostly overkill for gaming purposes, and at more than twice the price of the RTX 3080, it's very much in the category of GPUs formerly occupied by the Titan brand. If you're the type of gamer who has to have the absolute best, and price isn't an object, this is the new 'best.' For the rest of us, the RTX 3090 might be drool-worthy, but it's arguably of more interest to content creators who can benefit from the added performance and memory. We didn't specifically test any workloads where a 10GB card simply failed, but it's possible to find them — not so much in games, but in professional apps. We also weren't able to test 8K (or simulated 8K) yet, though some early results show that it's definitely possible to get the 3080 into a state where performance plummets. If you want to play on an 8K TV, the 3090 with its 24GB VRAM will be a better experience than the 3080. How many people fall into that bracket of gamers? Not many, but then again, $300 more than the previous generation RTX 2080 Ti likely isn't going to dissuade those with deep pockets. Back to the content creation bit, while gaming performance at 4K ultra was typically 10-15% faster with the 3090 than the 3080, and up to 20% faster in a few cases, performance in several professional applications was consistently 20-30% faster — Blender, Octane, and Vray all fall into this group. Considering such applications usually fall into the category of "time is money," the RTX 3090 could very well pay for itself in short order compared to the 3080 for such use cases. And compared to an RTX 2080 Ti or Titan RTX? It's not even close. The RTX 3090 often delivered more than double the rendering performance of the previous generation in Blender, and 50-90% better performance in Octane and Vray. The bottom line is that the RTX 3090 is the new high-end gaming champion, delivering truly next-gen performance without a massive price increase. If you've been sitting on a GTX 1080 Ti or lower, waiting for a good time to upgrade, that time has arrived. The only remaining question is just how competitive AMD's RX 6000, aka Big Navi, will be. Even with 80 CUs, on paper, it looks like Nvidia's RTX 3090 may trump the top Navi 2x cards, thanks to GDDR6X and the doubling down on FP32 capability. AMD might offer 16GB of memory, but it's going to be paired with a 256-bit bus and clocked quite a bit lower than 19 Gbps, which may limit performance.
Great choice. You probably have some questions which led you here... A quick intro: Nashville has a lot of transplants. [LA-05] “Never forget what you are, for surelythe worldNashville will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armour yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you” As such, we get a lot of posts asking for help finding a place to live. The results can be… mixed. It’s generally the same questions (“What’s the best place to live?”/”Can I afford ___?”) with little to no helpful information ( not helpful: “Love Nashville, finally moving there. Any help would be great. Can’t wait!” Helpful: "Here's my budget, bedrooms, job location, commute time ideals, pets, city comparison, etc.) and disbelief that they get directed to the Wiki <https://www.reddit.com/nashville/wiki/index>, or Google, instead of providing a full market analysis for their specific situation. Please read this before asking any questions. If you can’t find the answer here, or through Google, try giving the sub a quick search to see if it’s already been asked/answered. If no luck then feel free to post. The more information you can provide (barring any personal contact info) the higher the odds of someone stepping in with an answer, well a helpful one. Housing Buying Get a Realtor! The buyer’s agent’s cost is covered by the seller in a traditional real estate transaction. You’ll find no shortage agents. Talk to multiple before deciding. You’ll be interacting with this person a good bit, on quite possibly the largest purchase of your life, so clear communication on both parts is huge. A few Redditors that may be able to assist:

We’re also Real Estate Agents, but instead of buying/selling houses, we find people apartments all throughout the Greater Nashville Area (every surrounding county except Cheatham currently). The pictures/videos are, usually, great on said websites, but the pricing and availability are also, usually, outdated. (Most Nashville apartments have switched over to software-based pricing that updates frequently) Reviews can be helpful, but also distracting. Repeat mentions of specific issues merit attention, but reviews are also often used as a means of retaliation. Ask your Locator their thoughts and if they’ve had any clients move into said apartments and their experiences. Private Rentals (Houses - Condos) My resources/expertise in this matter are far more limited, but give me a shout and I can probably point you in the direction of someone that can assist. Drive around neighborhoods of interest (turn down every road) calling every “For Rent/Lease” sign you see. I’ve found great deals on housing this way. There are plenty of landlords out there that don’t bother listing online and only use word of mouth/bandit signs (signs in the yard) to find tenants. Sign up for Realtor emails. They will promote their upcoming listings and a lot of Realtors will offer to list rentals for their clients.

Roommates, rooms, short-terms, & subleasing Apartments generally only offer month-month to their current residents. The shortest lease term that I’ve seen is a 2-month lease term. However, the price usually goes up with a shorter lease term. That being said, there are a lot of people that are looking to move before their lease ends so they look for people to sublet their leases. Subletting is most likely going to be your best bet in finding an affordable short term lease. Conversely, check with the leasing office if they allow sublets for your lease. If they do then consider getting a longer lease term to sublet the months you won't need. (This comes with the risk of not finding someone to take over your lease so take serious consideration if you're comfortable subletting your lease)
Furnished units? There aren't a lot of apartments throughout Nashville that will offer furnished units. When you do find one you'll notice that it comes with a price increase. You're paying to rent out the furniture. Here's the secret. Just because an apartment doesn't offer the furnishings directly doesn't mean you can't get a furnished apartment. You can furnish any apartment in Nashville regardless of whether the apartments offer it or not. The ones that do offer furnishings go through a company called CORT. You can go to their website and look their rates up. However, I deal with their local representatives so if you want some direct contact info feel free to give me a shout. With CORT you'll be paying for two things. The furniture and the service. They will move the furnishings for you at the beginning/end of your lease. If you transfer units they will move it as well. You can furnish as much/little as you would like through them and as such their prices will vary greatly. I like to tell people to expect to add a few hundred to the budget for furnishings. Another option that I've had people do is to simply find used furniture and then attempt to sell it before your lease ends. You won't recoup all of your money, but you have the potential of recouping some of it as opposed to simply renting it and not getting anything back. Are apartments/houses touring currently? It varies. Apartments that are doing physical tours are generally doing so by appointment only. Few are accepting walk-ins. Practically every apartment community is offering some form of virtual tour. You should get a quote for a specified amount of time (24-72 hours) locking in the price*** while you make a decision. (***A quote doesn't reserve the unit under your name, it simply reserves the price for that unit for a specific amount of time {Yes, I've had to break the news to multiple people that the quote doesn't prevent someone else from leasing the unit before you and it's not a fun conversation for anyone}**\*) You found your next home, now what? Apply!\* You’ll apply online with most apartments/property managers. It’ll vary with individual landlords. The only way to ensure a place for yourself is to apply to start the screening process before anyone else. Apartments/property managers won’t “hold” units while you wait. A private landlord is more likely to honor that request since they have more flexibility, but they also can use that flexibility to change their minds and lease their place to someone else with no notice.
Application fee $25 - $75 per applicant (anyone over the age of 18 will be considered an applicant)
Administration fee $150 - $350 per application (one application per apartment/house)
Pet fee $100 - $300
Pet rent $15 - $35 a month (per pet) {some places will do a flat $50 for 2}
Security deposit (Varies from place to place) (Contingent on credit) $150 - 1-month rent
*Exercise caution when renting from strangers online. The risk of renting an apartment site-unseen is that you end up with an apartment you hate. The risk of renting a private rental site-unseen is that you get scammed out of money. Don’t send/transfer funds without physically seeing the property if possible. If not possible get them to Facetime/Google Duo you to show you the property, if they can’t/won’t do that it’s a red flag. If they can’t send you videos/pictures they probably don’t own the rental. I’ve talked to an average of 2 people per month this year that have been scammed when trying to find a home. What information will be checked when you apply? There are 3 things that will be checked when applying for an apartment, that will probably be checked by a property management company, and might be checked by a private landlord.
Income
Credit
Background
Each matter. However, the degree to each will vary depending on the apartment community/property managelandlord. When you apply at whatever place you decide to call home your information will be sent over to a 3rd party screening company for them to review and decide. Income Gross income (pre-tax) ≥ 3xbase rent (some will ask 2.5x){base=not including amenity/utility/fees/specials*) [i.e. $1,000base rent ($3.00-$6.00 pest/$5-$25 trash + 1 month free = $1,008-$1,031 net rent + 1 month free*) < $3,000 gross monthly $1,000 base rent < $3,000 gross monthly] Generallyaccepted documents to verify income:
Offer letters
Pay stubs
Income statements
Bank statements (showing sufficient funds to cover entire lease term will at times suffice)
W2’s, 1099’s
Tax returns
Credit
≥ 600 is the general benchmark for approval
< 600 some places will deny but you’ll still have options; higher deposits may be required
Bankruptcies limit options
***Just because you've been denied at an apartment doesn't necessarily mean that all apartments will deny you, you just have to know which ones and what documents will help get you approved**\* Background
Rental background (Generally looking for 2 years rental history {flexible so don’t sweat this)
Evictions limit options (set up a payment plan to increase your odds of approval at certain places)
***Just because you've been denied at an apartment doesn't necessarily mean that all apartments will deny you, you just have to know which ones and what documents will help get you approved**\* Co-SigneGuarantor Most apartments will allow you to use a co-signoguarantor if you can't get approved on your own.
A co-signer would be someone to co-sign on the lease that is willing to use their credit/income to vouch for your application sharing the financial responsibility should y'all default on the lease (Family member, friend, co-worker, etc.) {This is generally another individual} (The income requirements will increase for the co-signer to 4x, 6x, 8x, or 12x monthly income to base rent depending on which apartment)
A guarantor is similar to a co-signer but is a company that will take on the financial responsibility for you should you default on the lease (You will have to pay them for their services {usually a fee equivalent to 1 month of rent but it varies}
You said something about a “special”? Correct. Apartments periodically run “specials” & “look and leases” that can save you quite a bit of money, if applied correctly. Phrasing matters as deals all vary. Specials are generally unit/time-based. Look and leases will have short expirations, generally the life of the quote (24-72 hours), to incentivize you to make a quick decision. In each instance, you will receive a credit worth the amount of whatever special you receive in your online account (where you will pay your rent) upon move-in. What will vary is how the apartments will allow you to prorate your special. For example: “Move-in by the end of the month and get your 1st month free!”* *(1 bedroom w/ 13 month lease) Must physically move in by the end of the month to receive 1 month free on a 1 bedroom unit with a 13-month lease. “Lease by the end of the month and get your 1st month free!”* *(1 bedroom) Must sign lease agreement by end of the month to receive 1 month free on 1 bedroom units. “1 month free” Must sign lease agreement by time point (end of special) to receive special. ***Specials are usually only applied for specific lease terms (12 months)*** In each instance, you will receive 1 month free. However, the apartment will determine how that credit is applied. Either way, you will receive the same amount in savings from the credit.
Credit is used for your 1st full month (you don’t pay rent your 1st full month)
Credit is prorated at your volition (you choose how you spread out the credit over your lease)
Credit is prorated over a specific amount of time (i.e. First 4 months)
For example:
$1,000 for a 1 bedroom apartment offering 1 month free on a 13 month lease (1st full month)
$1,000 X 13 months = $13,000 Spent on rent over life of lease without special $1,000 X (13mo -1 mo) = $12,000 Spent on rent over life of lease with special 0 + 1,000 + 1,000… = $12,000
$1,000 for a 1 bedroom apartment offering 1 month free on a 13 month lease (Self-prorate) (a lot of ways you can prorate this)
$1,000 X 13 months = $13,000 Spent on rent over life of lease without special
$1,000 X (13 mo -1 mo) = $12,000 Spent on rent over life of lease with special
0 + 1,000 + 1,000… = $12,000 - or - $12,000/13 mo = $923 per month if spread out evenly over the life of the lease $923 x 13 mo 923 + 923 + 923… =$12,000
$1,000 for a 1 bedroom apartment offering 1 month free on a 13-month lease spread over the first 4 months (Specific increment)
$1,000/4 = $250 off for first 4 months $750 + $750 + $750 + $750 + 1,000 + 1,000… = $12,000 Look and leases will generally be smaller offers such as waiving your application fees, or a smaller credit, that is only good for a short period of time (24-48 hours) to incentivize you to apply. The time will start upon contacting/touring the apartments depending on the apartment. For example: “Move-in by the end of the month and get your 1st month free!”* *(1 bedroom w/ 13 month lease) Application and administration fees waived if leased within 48 hours” Must physically move in by the end of the month to receive 1 month free on a 1 bedroom unit with a 13-month lease. However, if you lease within 48 hours you will also get your application and administration fees waived. That being said, what one considers “safe” will be subjective. It’s unfortunate that I have to add this, but some people will incorrectly judge the safety of an area based on the demographics of said area. It’s such uneducated, and divisive, judgments that previously led to unfair & unethical Real Estate practices (redlining [lenders wouldn’t lend to minorities in certain areas essentially creating a redline around areas], blockbusting [agents/developers would tell white landowners minorities were moving into the neighborhood to scare them into selling], steering [using a protected class {color, race, sex, age, etc.} to steer a buyeresident to/from an area]) that had to be addressed with legislation (Fair Housing Laws) to prohibit discriminatory practices. As such when dealing with any Real Estate professional we will not discuss any matters of demographics for an area. Such information is easily found through Google. Aside from online tools, you’ll find it’s highly recommended to drive around, stop, and get a feel for any areas you’re considering making home, particularly during the times you’re most likely going to be out. If you don’t feel comfortable driving, let alone walking, around then you probably won’t feel comfortable calling that area home. https://www.crimemapping.com/map/tn/nashville https://spotcrime.com/ https://www.familywatchdog.us/Default.asp Utilities Utilities List (Multiple Counties) -https://liveitnash.com/utilities NES (Nashville Electric Service) -https://www.nespower.com/ Piedmont Natural Gas -https://www.piedmontng.com/home MWS (Metro Water Services) -https://www.nashville.gov/Water-Services.aspx Internet There are others aside from the major 3 below. Bodog Casino Review
Among known brands in online betting and casino gaming, Bodog is without doubt one of the best. Since 1994, when Calvin Ayre launched it, the site has gone through many development phases. There was a time when it was one of the foremost online gambling options for folks in the United States; however the site no longer accepts American customers. Its sister site, Bovada, is now left with that task. Presently, Bodog is entirely focused on the Canadian market and accepts customers solely from this region. Some of the gaming options available at the site include sports betting, casinos, horse racing, and poker. While sports betting has been the primary focus of the site, other features are also very inviting, with casino play now being more prominent than ever. Below is a comprehensive review of the site, looking specifically what Bodog Casino offers players and whether or not this casino website is worthy of acclaim.
Going Through the Motions
You definitely are going to be impressed when you check out the Bodog Casino website. The home page is very simple, however it makes it very clear what the site is about with bold graphics, as it does its best to place the spotlight over the games it makes available. You will find links to each of the main sections of the site, and a noticeable link to register an account. If you click the link to open an account, a new window will display and you will have to enter your country of residence, along with other relevant registration information. At present, only Canadian residents may use Bodog Casino. The sign up process doesn’t take long; basically you just have to provide a few small pieces of personal information. This includes your name, email address, and date of birth among other things. As soon as you’ve concluded the process, your account will be registered and you’ll be able to start betting and gaming as you see fit. >>Join Now and Get Free Spins<<
Just One More Spin
Bodog Casino puts its budget to fantastic use, as it provides players with advanced graphics and an incredibly smooth gameplay experience across all casino game games. Focusing in on what is most impressive, table games like craps and roulette, along with card games like blackjack and poker are particularly enjoyable. Bodog Casino blackjack has also long retained the reputation of being one of the most effective casino games on the Internet, as it never fails to disappoint. Bodog Casino slots are increasingly improving with each new release too, which shows that this is an online casino that is making progress. When it comes to games, Bodog Casino is sleek to say the very least, as through one click of the mouse a game is started instantly (no registration is needed to play for free).
Quit While You’re Ahead
Depositing and withdrawing at Bodog are both straightforward. Visa or Mastercard can both be used to deposit, and the site is excellent at getting credit card deposits processed fast too. A few other methods are available as well, like BillPay and Interac e-Transfer. There’s no charge for depositing, and funds will normally be ready for you to make use of instantly. Withdrawals are usually processed within a fairly good timescale; you can expect to have your funds within a couple of days in most cases. You can withdraw via cheque or direct bank transfer, as well as Visa. Although it must be noted that only specific Visa cards are eligible though. All customers are entitled to a minimum of one free withdrawal per month, but charges are applicable on all successive withdrawals. >>Join Now and Get Free Spins<<
The Perfect Leg-Up
There are three welcome bonuses offered by Bodog, one for each of the main products it has to offer. The sports betting bonus is designed to match 100% of your first deposit, up to $200, with just 3x rollover requirements in place. There’s $600 available for new players at Bodog Casino, which is split into two different bonuses formats for slots and other games. While for those who have a specific interest in poker, Bodog Casino puts a tempting $1,000 bonus up for grabs. Bodog runs several other promotions too, so there’s plenty of extra value to be found here by regular customers.
Classic Canadian Custom
Awful customer support can surely bring down a gambling site, but thankfully Bodog Casino doesn’t suffer from this. The customer support there is great, and that truly enhances the overall feel of the site. Should you ever stumble upon a problem, or just have an inquiry you want answered, you can be assured of a speedy and useful response. You can get in touch with a member of Bodog Casino staff via e-mail or phone, and there’s an alternative to submit any queries directly from the on-site contact page too. >>Join Now and Get Free Spins<<
Go Big or Go Home!
Bodog Casino is an excellent place to play casino games; it really is just that obvious. Their online casino is of the highest standard, with a terrific collection of games put on show. The majority of these games can be played through their download software option or the instant play alternative, and they’re also many mobile games available too. The variety of slots is extremely impressive, with some appealing jackpots on offer. At this point in time there are not any live dealer games at hand, which is probably the biggest disappointment here. There’s unquestionably a lot of fun to be had at Bodog Casino, and there’s a rewarding customer loyalty scheme in place for regular players as well that only heightens the playing experience.
Put on Your Poker Face
It’s without doubt fair to state that poker isn’t the central priority at Bodog Casino. Even though its poker room isn’t quite up there with the very best, it’s still of a decent standard. The focus of such is placed on casual players, given by their use of anonymous tables to circumvent the use of monitoring software that many serious players make use of. As a consequence there’s very little of high stakes action, and there’s also not much in the way of advanced features either. However, these criticisms are considerably minor, and there’s one huge advantage to playing here. The focus on casual players means the all-round standard of the opponents you’ll find isn’t that great. This provides lots opportunities for making some cash if you are a relatively good player. >>Join Now and Get Free Spins<<
Every Dog has its Day
Bodog Casino is generally well liked by the online casino masses and it is fairly easy to see why. They are trusted and they have been around for quite a long time now, with this experience now beginning to shine through in the casino platform they make available. Dare we say, the only real issue we have is that they only accept customers from Canada. Of course, this is great for Canadians, but not so great for people in other parts of the world, as they’re missing out on a truly entertaining online casino experience. Conclusively, all gambling websites have their shortcomings, and Bodog Casino isn’t exempt from criticism. But the criticism we have however is all relatively minor, and the strengths surpass the shortcomings at Bodog Casino by a country mile. It may have gone under the radar in the past, but it looks like Bodog Casino is now stepping out, with more and more players becoming aware of what this casino has to offer. >>Join Now and Get Free Spins<<
That day began as all the ones before. I awoke at 7 a.m., and rolled out of bed to the bathroom, feeling groggy. I worked from home doing a freelance job, but I still preferred to wake up early as though I had somewhere to be. After washing my face and brushing my teeth, I threw on a bathrobe and went to the kitchen, aching for my daily cup of coffee. I shuffled around the kitchen, almost robotically out of routine. Once my coffee was on, I went to my office and booted up my computer. I saw I had a few notifications. I sighed and began dismissing. Most were random emails and promotions from various social media sites. I noticed one that seemed a bit strange. The subject line was simply, “hello.” I frowned. Must be some kind of spam, I thought. It was then that I noticed the email was sent from my own account, to myself. I opened the email. It was blank. How odd. I decided it was best to change my password and move on. I did so quickly, before I could forget. I changed it to something I could remember: Daisy120385!. My old family dog’s name, and my older brother’s birthday. I wondered if that was too weak, but I figured it wasn’t too big of a deal. I’d had my email hacked before, and I had just changed the password, and the problem was solved. I opened up the project I had been working on yesterday. I had made some good headway, but I wasn’t sure the quality was up to my standards. I bit my lip and sat back in my chair. I loved doing digital art on commission, but sometimes the requested images were challenging. The one I was currently working on was a piece for an older woman, of her and her dog. I had the dog down just fine, but for some reason I just couldn’t seem to get the eyes right for the woman. She kept looking sort of sad. I sighed and began to attempt to redraw her eye area, using the photo she sent me as reference. My computer “dinged” to let me know I had another email. I clicked on the notification without really thinking about it. My stomach dropped. It was from my own email, and sent to myself once again. Hello. Why did you ignore me? I shook my head. This must be some sick spam email, or a virus. I flagged it as spam, deleted it, and then went back to my settings to change my password again. This time, I tried to be as random as I could. Bz2AO045*!. I wrote it down on a slip of paper so that I wouldn’t forget. I slipped the paper into my desk drawer. Satisfied, I got up and retrieved my piping hot coffee from the kitchen. I came back to the computer and worked on the drawing for the rest of the morning. At around 1 p.m., I decided to take a break and make myself some lunch. Nothing special, just grilled cheese and some chips. I sat back down on my computer, only to find that my drawing was not there. Had I closed it before going to make food? I hadn’t thought so…. I opened my project folder. It wasn’t there. Oh, please, no, I thought, beginning to panic. If this art was missing, I was screwed. I had promised it would be done by the end of the day Friday. That was tomorrow. I frantically clicked through my folders and other areas of my computer, heart racing. Where could it have gone? Eventually, I had to resign myself to the fact that my art was gone. I needed to start over. I opened up a new document and began to sketch the outlines, fighting back frustrated tears. I hated putting out subpar work, as I felt it was unfair to the client, and it gave me a bad reputation. I decided that if I couldn’t come up with something by the end of the day tomorrow, I would give the woman a discount and an apology, and extend the deadline. I realized I was pushing rather hard on my stylus. I relaxed my hand, taking a deep breath. It’s okay, I told myself. My computer “dinged” again. Oh God. My stomach dropped. This time it was a Facebook message. It was from a user with no photo. The name simply said “Unknown.” I wondered why Facebook hadn’t removed the profile yet. Especially after I read the message. Hey, Daisy120385!, Bz2AO045\!,* it read. Why won’t you talk to me? I gasped. Who was this asshole? They had my passwords…. How on earth did they get my newest one? I had only written it on the small slip of paper. Was this some sort of dark web operation? Had my information been sold? I reported the Unknown profile, and then blocked them. I decided it would be best if I saved my newest art onto one of my hard drives, so as not to lose it again. I couldn’t be sure if this mysterious creep was behind it, but I didn’t want to take any chances. I uploaded it onto my hard drive and unplugged it from my computer. My email notification chimed. I couldn’t help it. I clicked on it. Nice idea. Doesn’t matter though. You’ll have to finish it at some point. My heart was threatening to pound out of my chest. How did they know? Did they have access to my whole computer? Rage blinded me. I angrily typed, What the fuck is wrong with you? I knew as soon as I sent it to “myself” it was a bad idea. I should have downloaded some anti-virus software or something. Although, it was becoming clear this was not a virus. Someone hacked into my computer. And they knew what I was doing. I received a message almost immediately in response. Hey, that’s rude. I’m just trying to be friends. You seemed stressed with work, so I got rid of it for you. I didn’t believe my eyes. How was this happening to me? Why me? I typed back, Fuck you. I worked hard on that, and I needed it tomorrow. I hit send. I wondered if that was even necessary. Could he just see what I was typing regardless? Well, you looked sad. My stomach clenched. I looked sad? No, they must have been bluffing. I quickly went through my desk drawers, finally finding some duct tape. I took a small piece and covered the webcam. Almost instantly, I received another message. That’s not going to stop me. I felt close to having a panic attack. Should I call the police? I wondered. It seemed like a good option, although I was unsure if this was little more than a cruel prank. I knew I shouldn’t engage with this psycho, but I couldn’t help myself. The more information I could get from them, the better. Right? Who are you? I said. It was simple, and they were unlikely to answer, but I figured why not. I’m someone who cares for you deeply, they responded. I guess you could say I’m your ‘secret admirer’. I’ve seen you often before. I just… Couldn’t help myself. You’re so beautiful. I felt sick. Was this someone I knew? Someone stalking me? Don’t be a creep. If you like me, and know me in real life, why didn’t you just talk to me? I responded. I hoped that if I kept my responses neutral and polite, they wouldn’t do anything else to my computer. This is a better way. Plus, I said ‘secret admirer,’ remember? It’s a secret. I shuddered slightly. Maybe they were just some smart geek who took things too far…. Well, I have a boyfriend. I’m not interested. He’ll be home soon. I wrote. It wasn’t true. But I hoped it would deter this person. You don’t have a boyfriend. You live alone. You barely even have friends. You leave the house once a week for food. You’re alone. I pushed my chair back from my computer. How could they possibly know? Lucky guess? I cast my eyes around the room, as though expecting to see cameras pointed at me. If there were any, I didn’t see them…. Are you watching me? I typed. I hesitated, my finger over my mouse, ready to click “send.” Did I want to know the answer? Maybe not... I pressed send anyway. Of course. I told you I cared for you. How did you get onto my computer? I asked. It’s simple really. You don’t have much cyber security. But why me? I said. I told you already. I think I’m in love with you. And I have a proposition. What? I asked tentatively. I want to commission a drawing from you. I have attached a picture. I didn’t know what to say. I wasn’t sure I wanted to see what it was. I opened it. Curiosity got the better of me. It was the outside of my apartment building. I gasped. I’d had enough. This was some sick person trying to scare me. I unplugged my computer, and went into the main room of my apartment to ensure my front door was locked. It was. I went into the kitchen, and picked up my phone, toying with the idea of calling the police. Could they do anything? It was then I received another email. You fucking ignoring me? Turning off your computer? Fuck you bitch. I said I loved you, and no response? I dropped my phone. I hastily retrieved it from the kitchen floor, brushing it off. I didn’t reply to the email. My phone buzzed again. You know what I could fucking do to you? Frightened beyond belief, yet still not certain I wasn’t just part of some elaborate prank, I didn’t open the message. Maybe if I ignored it, they would stop bothering me. What a futile hope. My phone began buzzing erratically. Emails and Facebook messages, and even texts were bombarding me. You bitch. I hate you. How could you do this to me? Why won’t you talk to me? I want my drawing. I didn’t know what to do. I went into my bedroom, curled up on the bed, nearing tears. What was going on? I jumped when I heard a knock at my door. Was it safe to look? Surely, I could look through the peephole. I went to my kitchen first, and retrieved a knife. I crossed the living room to the front door, hands shaking. I tried to be as quiet as possible. I looked through the peephole. I saw it was a FedEx delivery man. He held a package. I wasn’t expecting anything. “Um...could you just drop it off?” I asked. My voice quivered and sounded rather shrill. “It needs a signature,” the man said. “Um, okay,” I said. I took a deep breath. It was probably just my mom sending me something, I thought. She didn’t live far away, but she often mailed me books or little trinkets she thought I would like. I unlocked and opened the door a crack. The man looked rather bored. He held out a keypad with a stylus for me to sign. I took it hastily and scribbled my signature. He handed me the package in exchange for the keypad. “Have a good day ma’am,” he said dully. I almost wondered if I should ask him for help. Would it do me any good? He was already at his truck. I guess not. I closed the front door and locked it firmly. I looked at the package. It was messily wrapped, with the FedEx label stuck on with Scotch tape. The return address looked familiar. I realized it was the local library. Probably a bad sign. Should I even open it? My phone buzzed in my pocket again. Did you get my present? Oh shit. Was it dangerous? Could it be a bomb? I thought erratically. It was rather small if it was a bomb. I used the knife I had to open the box. A small item wrapped in tissue paper fell out on my couch. It couldn’t have been larger than a wallet or phone. I unwrapped it, adrenaline coursing through me. It was a hard drive. Much like the one I owned. Plug it in. As if in a trance, I went to my office and plugged in my computer, turning it on. I plugged in the hard drive. Pictures began to pop up. Hundreds. Maybe thousands. I didn’t think to look. It was photos of me, all stretching back to possibly the last year. Me getting groceries. Me in my car. Me visiting my mother on her porch. My heart stopped when I saw the most recent. It was my front door, and the FedEx man outside, hand raised to knock. That’s it, I decided. I was going to call the police. I picked up my phone and began dialing. I heard the dial tone, and one ring, before it was cut off. I looked down at my phone, perplexed. It was just a blank white screen. Was it broken? Could that...person... have gotten ahold of my phone too? What now? My computer “dinged” with another notification. Don’t even bother. I began crying. What could I do? I decided asking a neighbor for help was my best bet. I was sure I looked crazy, all disheveled in my bathrobe. It didn’t matter. I didn’t have time. I grabbed my phone (a lot of good that was doing me) and my keys, and rushed out of my apartment, hastily locking the door behind me. I quickly went to my neighbor’s door, and knocked as politely as I could manage. I didn’t know my neighbors well, but I did recognize the woman that answered. She was older, in her mid-fifties perhaps. I didn’t know if she lived alone or not. “Um hi,” I said awkwardly. “I’m so sorry to bother you, but could I use your phone?” “Oh, uh, sure,” she said. “I have a landline... Come on in.” “Thank you so much,” I said. I went inside. Her apartment was the same layout as mine, but much more organized and decorated. She led me to her tidy kitchen, and handed me her phone. I dialed 911 hastily. My neighbor looked concerned. “Everything okay?” “Yeah,” I said breathlessly, though I wasn’t sure that was true. “I just… had some weird messages this morning, they were concerning, so I figured… I figured I should call the police. My phone is broken.” She nodded, brow furrowed. I think she may have thought I was crazy. After a few rings, the 911 operator picked up. I hastily explained the situation. She assured me they would send an officer over as soon as possible. I hung up and breathed a sigh of relief. “You want to stay here?” my neighbor asked. “Oh, that’s okay,” I said. “I’ll just wait for them at my apartment.” “Okay,” she said. She still seemed concerned. “Thank you though,” I said. “It’s probably just some prank or joke anyway….” I thanked her again, and went back to my own apartment, once again taking care to lock the door behind me. I breathed a sigh of relief. I went to my kitchen and finished my coffee. My sense of security was short-lived. I heard a floorboard creak in my bedroom. On high-alert again, I grabbed another kitchen knife. “Who’s there?” I said, in some attempt to sound tough. There was no reply. I thought maybe I was imagining things, until I heard the sound of my closet door shutting. Oh shit. I hoped the police were on their way. Shakily, I stepped into my bedroom. It looked normal, but I did see that the closet door was indeed shut. I approached it, unsure of my plan. I gripped the doorknob and threw the door open, brandishing my knife. There was no-one there. Had I imagined it? Before I could think it may have been a trick, I felt strong arms wrap around my waist. I screamed. A deep voice whispered in my ear, “Don’t be scared baby.” I tried to use my knife, but the man was far stronger than me and easily disarmed me. He now had both my arms pinned to my sides, standing behind me. I screamed again, and thrashed around as hard as I could. “Come on, don’t make this harder,” he said. He had a very smooth, deep voice. “Fuck you!” I shouted. I hoped the police were almost here. “No no,” he said. “It’s okay. You’re going to come with me. You’ll be happy with me. Your secret admirer.” “No!” I shouted. Maybe the neighbor would hear me and help, I hoped. But no one came. “You’re a fucking creep!” The man easily flipped me around, still gripping my arms. He was wearing a black balaclava, and black clothes. He struck me as the type of computer nerd who took himself way too seriously and had seen too many hacker and spy movies. In most cases, that would be funny. Not this one. “I’m not yours, I don’t even know you,” I shouted. His dark eyes looked hurt. “I was willing to forgive you for ignoring my messages,” he said. “But I think this is too far.” I screamed again, but he shoved something into my mouth. I nearly choked. “Shut up,” he said coldly. He shoved me onto my bed face first, pinning me down with what felt like his knee. I felt plastic on my arm. He was zip-tying my wrists. I tried to kick him. He pushed my leg down and twisted it painfully. I whimpered. I didn’t dare think of what his plan was. This man had clearly been stalking me and watching me for months, almost a year. There was no doubt this would not end well for me. I could feel him beginning to tie up my ankles as well. “Don’t struggle—” he began, before being abruptly cut off. A deafening blast shook the room. I could feel the pressure of the man slip off of me. Ears ringing, I strained my body, looking to see what the hell had happened. My neighbor stood there, holding a gun. She looked grim. My attacker was sprawled on the floor. Wide-eyed, I asked, in a muffled voice due to the gag, “What the fuck…?” She hastened to my side and pulled the fabric out of my mouth. “Are you okay?” I nodded weakly. “The cops should be here soon,” she assured me. “I heard you yell, so I thought...It was better not to wait.” I nodded. I didn’t know what to say. I didn’t look at the man on my bedroom floor. “Is he…” “Dead? Don’t know,” my neighbor said. “We’ll see. Should be, since I got him in the head.” I sat there in some sort of stupor, as she retrieved scissors from the kitchen and cut the zip ties. The police arrived not long after. They asked me some questions, and I suppose I answered them. I don’t remember what I said. The police took photos of the scene, and collected some evidence, including the hard drive he sent. They declared my assailant dead. He was never identified. It’s been a few weeks since the incident. I was finally starting to feel safe in my apartment again. I got a new computer, and got a security system installed. My neighbor finally stopped checking up on me, and I stopped obsessively checking my apartment for intruders every day. I got back into the swing of things, and started doing my art again. I was doing so well. Tonight, I received an email. I’ve missed you. X.

100% up to $300 sports betting bonus
This sports betting welcome bonus is simple: Leo Vegas Casino will match your first deposit up to $300. This is also one of the best betting bonuses around for Canadians and gives a flying start for players wagering, for example, NHL, Premier League, NFL, or NBA. By the way, this LeoVegas sports bonus is available only to Canadian residents, so we’re in luck. On top of a fabulous mobile offering, LeoVegas dishes out lavish bonuses for new Canadian customers. They offer a four-stage deposit bonus loyalty program.
Wagering requirements
As they always do at online gambling, LeoVegas’ bonuses come with a wagering requirement. However, for Canadian customers, the wagering minimum is only 25x. Playing popular games at Leovegas, this wagering requirement means that you need to wager your bonuses 25 times using your bonus funds before you can withdraw the bonus or any winnings. Some casinos offer no wagering free spins, but they are not comparable for LeoVegas deposit bonus.
Restricted Games
You can play the bonus for the full amount in any classic slot or jackpot slot games. Classic slots or video slots give you the best chance to wager your bonuses. However, note that in table games such as Blackjack and Roulette, the bonus contributions are only 10%, so we do not recommend playing those table games with your bonus money. LeoVegas is lax with its bonuses when it comes to minimum deposits. Casino players don’t need to aim anywhere near the maximum bonus amount to receive the extra free spins. Leovegas offers are unique as many other casinos limit your real-money free spin winnings to $20. The only requirement you need to clear before cashing out is 25x wagering.
Playing at Leo Vegas Canada
Games provided by LeoVegas includes a variety of option for online players. Leo Vegas combines an excellent mobile gambling experience with a massive variety of slot machines and other casino games. LeoVegas Sportsbook and live casino offer additional opportunities for Canadian online players. LeoVegas was the very first online casino to go mobile. It launched in a cellphone-friendly format years ago and has only improved since – even sporting its gambling app. It doesn’t matter if you play with Android or Apple iPhone (or tablets, like iPad), you’ll always receive a top-notch gaming experience whether you have a super-expensive top-of-the-line iPhone or cheapo Android matters surprisingly little. The games run smoothly on any device, and navigating the site is easy. >>Get Free Spins Bonus Now<<
Game Providers
Leo Vegas does not create casino games; they simply have games from various software providers. Top gaming providers such as NetEnt, Microgaming, NextGen, Evolution Gaming, IGT, Play’n Go, and other 34 developers. There have included some smaller-name casino software providers like QuickSpin, Thunderkick, and Yggdrasil. While not as famous as something like Microgaming or the mighty NetEnt, these companies have excellent mobile slots that you need to try. Play a spin or two (or a few hundred) of Big Bad Wolf, and you’ll find out why we recommend games by these three companies. LeoVegas has some of those legendary slots (Mega Fortune, Mega Moolah and Mega Moolah Isis) with massive progressive jackpots as well. Video poker and table games haven’t been forgotten either-or ‘normal’ jackpot games.
Leo Vegas Sportsbook
Leo Vegas has a Canada-friendly sportsbook where you can bet on all your favourite sports. LeoVegas hasn’t been in the betting business for long, but it’s already making an impact in Canada. While the LeoVegas Sportbook section doesn’t have quite the same selection of leagues and events as Betway, it does have Leo Vegas’ signature touch: it’s supremely mobile friendly. Betting with your cell phone or tablet is a pleasure, as Leo’s sportsbook is noticeably fast. This is something we’re still not experiencing across the board in 2020! It’s beyond comprehension how mobile sportsbooks are so slow on many gambling sites, but LeoVegas is a welcome exception to this rule. The quickness matters with live betting especially, now you don’t miss a critical in-play bet just because the website was still loading. You can find a comprehensive array of Canadian sports and divisions at LeoVegas. You can naturally place a bet in the NHL, CFL, UFC, or other big leagues, but they also offer more marginal sports such as horse racing, cycling, or even surfing. >>Get Free Spins Bonus Now<<

Leo Vegas – King of Mobile Casinos
Leo Vegas has from the start concentrated on mobile online gambling. You can play all its top casino games on modern mobile devices. Supported devices include all iPhones and iPads, as well as Android phones and tablets. Even Blackberry and Windows phones and tablets are ok. For Android, there’s an optional LeoVegas mobile casino app for mobile gaming. Other than that, there’s no need for casino apps to jump into action on LeoVegas mobile devices.
Leo Vegas Mobile App
You don’t need an app to play.. So, if you have an iPhone, you simply gamble at Leo Vegas’ website. For Android phones and tablets, LeoVegas has an optional app you can download by following instructions you’ll find after registering at the Leovegas mobile casino. However, most players skip downloading the app. It’s a bit cumbersome as it requires changing a couple of Android’s standard settings. Especially as playing on a mobile device works equally well. Usually, our bonus experts stay with one mobile casino for a couple of days to find out whether there are kinks in the mobile experience. But, we realized LeoVegas is pretty damn good when we noticed our experts had had accounts at LeoVegas for months. The draw here is that besides being technically perfect for Android and Apple devices, the mobile casino has big promotions for existing players. These promos are bound to make you pop back to Leo to play your free spins and other real money casino bonuses. >>Get Free Spins Bonus Now<<

Why SpaceX Dreams Of Colonization But Must Dream Of All Space And How We Might Get There
Why SpaceX Dreams Of Colonization But Must Dream Of All Space And How We Might Get There
Introduction Elon Musk’s had a sentiment sometime last year that it would be easier for Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (SpaceX) to land on the Moon [or Mars] than it would be to convince National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) they could. This is likely no longer true. While publicly Administrator Jim Bridenstine appears to do his best to treat both Commercial Crew Program (CCDev) Partners Boeing and SpaceX equally, reading between the lines of his Congressional budget response, I believe Bridenstine is fully behind SpaceX not just with launching American Astronauts with Rockets on American Soil (AARAS) but moving forward forward with Project Artemis, deep space, Mars, or any future NASA missions.
Old Space and New Space With the CCDev Admin. Bridenstine has himself, personally, been afforded an opportunity to work hand in hand with both partners; with this deep dive into the operations and culture the he now has a clear understanding on the differences between how “old space” of Boeing versus “new space”of “SpaceX” conducts themselves during their success and failures. Admin. Bridenstine has seen the true measure and dedication of the entire SpaceX team, from entry level engineers to the top management including the CEO & Chief Engineer Elon Musk. NASA’s Administrator has witnessed firsthand how SpaceX can quickly adapt, how motivated SpaceX is to its goal of spaceflight and human colonization of space, and the kind of leadership Musk can provide for those working SpaceX, the space industry, and the entire public. Administrator Bridenstine having compared “new space” to “old space” - has seen the future, and that future is now. Both Boeing and SpaceX have seen their fair share of setbacks and failures on the road to AARAS. When this non-official race started, Boeing was legacy and seen as the clear leader. Not only had years of experience building spacecraft but a proven track record flying them. Boeing was already working on SLS and Orion and at the time NASA not only seemed pleased with their projects, they admired them as the only real possible future. SpaceX, when selected did have some success with Commercial Resupply Services (CRS), but later suffered from tarnished record as one of their Falcon 9 (F9) rockets failed during the 7th resupply mission. A year later another F9 failed during propellant loading while on the pad during static fire testing. While SpaceX seriously underbid Boeing by a large margin, most all considered them to be the fall back or the secondary cheaper option to the more sure bet of Boeing. Asking most any space insider at the time to bet who would be first to the ISS, money would have been on Boeing. Now the shoe is on the other foot after what seemed to be smooth sailing for Boeing development. When a root cause analysis is applied to the origin of these failures at Boeing and SpaceX, it shows a fundamentally different foundation for errors and more importantly how these errors are a reflection of the type of company Boeing and SpaceX are. With the first SpaceX failure, it appears to revolve around an issue between parts failing below specification and not being rated to work at the cryogenic temperatures SpaceX was submitting them to. The second failure had to do with some unknown or lesser known interaction of carbon/metal/oxygen in material science. Boeing’s mishaps during the most recent Starliner test flight was especially concerning; not only with a series of errors that should have been part of the readiness testing prior to launch, but even more worrying was how NASA was able to determine that Boeing, who opted for process verification over testing verification, was not following their own process guidelines to prevent such an issue - then seemed to blame its NASA overseers for not catching them. Beyond what problems lie within Boeing from within the Aviation division some of these issues seem systemic and cultural within the company as a whole. Error and failures occur, but what is troubling is how the company handles and responds to them (or doesn’t until forced).
A Paradigm that Shapes the Company and Leads a Nation There are two main types of people when going into a fight: those who follow the warrior ethos and those who follow the survivor mentality. When you are trying to survive, in your mind you think dying is a real possibility and you need to do what you can to survive. The warrior ethos thinks only of defeating enemies. What defines a great company? A great company does not just dominate its market or industry; nor does it simply exist for long periods of time. A great company shapes the way people live, it changes how all other businesses operate, and it serves as a berating disruptive force. This is accomplished not through hyping and making people believe they are great, but through delivering actual goods, services, and products. Now, there are two possibilities at play. The first is that in previous generations Boeing once was a great amazing American company a leader in the Aviation and Aerospace industries, leading to its legacy that led to selection for SLS, Orion, and now CCDev. The second is that Boeing never truly met the criteria to be a great company its secure market position only existing feeding off the teet of taxpayers and it is only now with real competition that the truth is being exposed. With all the systemic failures that have continued to plague this company and continued dangerous ways it handles them, it is clear it is not learning or trying to learn from these failures. Whichever the case, many great people may work for the company, but the Boeing that exists today is a survivor and their mentality is to minimize risks to ensure survival. If they were a great company they will never return to the warrior they might have been before the Boeing 2707. Taking chances on technologies that could take us to Mars or beyond could lead to major failures and that is too much or too costly of a risk for a survivor mindset company. It is not interested in big dreams only big pocketbooks, and I believe the indication is what Administrator Bridenstine has seen from Boeing has him concerned. SpaceX, comparatively, is following the warrior ethos, setting up goals and not letting the fear of failure prevent them from fighting on to the next. SpaceX is not afraid to make mistakes and when errors are made they use them to use them to improve not only their vehicles, but allow the knowledge and technology to improve all spaceflight. What Administrator Bridenstine has seen from Musk and SpaceX not only seems to have him encouraged but has him excited. NASA’s and SpaceX’s goals on human spaceflight are aligned; NASA’s and Boeing’s are not.
Politics, Funding, and what the Public will Tolerate I believe SpaceX now has the full weight of the support of the NASA Administrator. What this means without getting into the mess of politics; if one were to extract the the historic record of an incumbent president with a decent economy SpaceX should have that support for another 4.5 years (written before coronavirus outbreak). At their rate of improvement we are looking at the largest shift in space since Apollo. With support from the Executive Branch of the US Government, one must look at the Legislature. What does it look like for House and Senate elections? The current Democrat controlled House did pass a pretty atrocious aforementioned spending bill that would have handed the keys of spaceflight over to Boeing and prevented private partnerships with SpaceX and other companies on pretty much everything, not just the Moon or Mars. This is likely not a partisan issue along party lines, as this is more an issue with lobbying. The funding must also contend with infamous legends in the Senate like Rep. Sen. Richard Shelby from Alabama who has long harmed space exploration and science in favor of jobs and financial kickbacks. At the heart of impossible dreams, such as becoming a space faring civilization, is the reality that it requires thinking and invention of something intangible - science and knowledge that cannot yet be imagined. If it cannot yet be imagined it cannot be quantified, if it cannot be quantified, it cannot be given a value. However, it is invaluable once you have it, but has no value while you do not. The public has little patience knowingly* spending money on the intangible or what they cannot imagine, but it is these ideas and inventions that are the very foundation for all advancement in modern health and technology. People's lives are forever improved because we pushed and explored our boundaries into the unknown. The core issue is that Congress, thus the public is the crux for any exploration, including space, and they need something tangible to believe in. This is what I am focusing on today.
Do or Do Not; There is No Try Every step and decision that SpaceX makes must align with the dream of getting to Mars, building a sustainable colony, and making humanity a space faring civilization so that the light of life will not be extinguished. Spending the time asking the right question can be more important than spending the time answering correct answers to the wrong questions. As Elon said in his interview with Tim Dodd, the best part is no part. Elon also likes to design along first principles and we can see in a lot of his business how disruptive and amazing these kinds of principles, among others, can be. Right now SpaceX is blasting off like a rocketship getting their first 9 meter (9m) Starship (SS) and Superheavy (SH) parts prepped in Boca Chica (BC) for the 20 kilometers (20k) and orbital tests later this year. These are key milestones necessary for their goal of sending 9m cargo versions of SS to Mars in 2022 and assisting NASA with their Artemis program to the Moon. However, the biggest reason for the push for the 9m SS is that the 9m SS can launch ~540 Starlink satellites for a fraction of the cost with an est. of $5 million or lower compared to $30 million with Falcon 9 (F9). Not only does this reduce a substantial burden of cost for SpaceX for Starlink, but ramps up production and potential revenue for funding further missions going to Mars necessary for SpaceX. When Starlink is successful, thereby funding secured for their Mars Shot, what does the timeline look like for SpaceX? It is aggressive, yet within grasp, cargo to be launched to Mars in 2022 and humans launched early as 2024. We must ask do these radical timelines align as the best way of building a sustainable colony on Mars? Dr. Robert Zubrin brings up this question quite often. He does not want to see boots, flags, pictures, come home, forget senario. In what way does SpaceX doing a couple of early one off cargo and astronaut missions to Mars do for one day sending entire waves of colony ships there? The answer is quite obvious to all of us, besides very important testing and validation of equipment, it is to make people believe we can do it. Right now if you talk to the average US taxpayer who has seen rocket launches like SpaceX F9 land, but don’t know the first thing about them and you tell them that Space Launch System (SLS) NASA is responsible for cost taxpayers 2+ billion dollars is not reusable and the F9 costs ~$50 million, they ask well why isn’t the SLS reusable and why does it cost so much? The brilliant people who lobby jobs at Congress to keep jobs in certain districts knew this would be problematic for voters especially when there are specific laws in place for waste, fraud, and abuse. So they went and created a mission that only SLS could do (*in a single launch) in order to justify its existence. Now when that question is asked, they can tell their voters, “the SLS is state of the art technology derived from the Space Shuttle that is the most powerful* rocket that exists* today and far more capable* than that little Falcon 9, it can even take our American Astronauts back to the Moon* from American Soil!”. Obviously we all here know that that Starship is going to be a serious disruption to this entire industry, these Congresspeople, Senators, and the Space Industry. But the thing is even though the mission and size of the Lunar Gateway is rather unnecessary and was a waste because it only existed to justify the existence of a jobs program, it doesn’t mean similar concepts are invalid when addressed by Starship and SpaceX to benefit the core mission.
We want to Remember History with Wings, but it Belongs to those with Anchors On September 12th, 1962 President John F. Kennedy gave his historic speech that forever changed the direction of a nation and a world. Leading the path of the United States to drive forward into the unknown, to strive to overcome challenges that are difficult is part what defines us as human beings, and that we are not just content looking at the stars wondering what exciting discoveries may be up there versus instead of fighting over scabbles over soil. However 50 years ago today, on March 7th 1970 President Richard M. Nixon changed officially undid that directive, with general support from the public. Setting the space program on part with any other domestic program or policy, reduction in the NASA budget, and effectively ending all human spaceflight beyond Low Earth Orbit (LEO) where we have remained for Fifty Years. LEO has become a dirty word for human spaceflight. Space Station is synonymous with a Middle-Age of space exploration. As much as the International Space Station (ISS) has provided goods amounts of scientific research and good will between once enemy nations, it has felt more of an anchor than as a stepping stone. Even the Lunar Orbiting Gateway (LOG) which exists only to give SLS a mission only it can do on paper, (*in a single launch) can provide more amazing scientific studies for astronauts and scientists for the Moon. Perhaps it can even provide some deep space research, but ultimately it provides very little in real funding and technology that moves us any closer to a colony on the Moon or Mars. However, just because these are poor examples of stations doesn’t mean space stations are anchors.
Colonization needs more than a Railroad and only SpaceX can Build it SpaceX is developing and building a 9m Starship with core mission the core mission to colonize Mars but is also using the 9m SS to launch Starlink missions to provide the funding that core mission. Using technology to gain an overlapping benefit is necessary to reach extraordinary goals. In order to reach that amazing goal of being multiplanetary civilization there are several types of technologies, methodologies, and simply partnerships that need to be developed and tested in space before colony ships can begin departing to Mars. As pointed out in a recent interview with Joe Rogan, Astronaut Garrett Reisman said we have research on 1g+, we have research in microgravity ~0g, but not much in between. We don’t know the effects on the human body, plants, or animals of .38g on Mars or .16g long term effects on Luna. In fact right now SpaceX plans to send humans from Earth at 1g, fly for about 3 months at 0g using resistive training exercises to prevent bone and muscle loss, then land at .38g on Mars. On return simply reverse. NASA on the other hand probably has been granted Congressional approval to put together a preliminary panel to decide to study the matter in 2069. We have the ISS, but it is not designed or capable of large scale gravity research of this kind. There are several companies attempting to make launchable modules, but even then there are manufactures that produce blowup dolls that seem to generate less controversy. However, there is one company that is capable and part of their core mission to build something that would allow others to study this and that is SpaceX. Such a large scale station has a number of advantages that only SpaceX can leverage. One, it can be built with the same stainless steel used to build Starship. It is cheap, plentiful, mass-manufactured, easy to repair, and having steel in orbit could always be repurposed for other tasks (ships) in the future. Two, once the station(s) is built SpaceX can access it quickly, easily, and inexpensively with Starship; this means when companies and Congress are forced by opportunity to use this gift it ensures continued partnership with SpaceX on current and future endeavours, something the current House budget bill tries to prevent. Three, since SpaceX can place this in a non-ISS eccentric orbit and in a more friendly equatorial orbit it can rendezvou more often. Rather than having a backlog of NASA Astronauts who have to make a cut to do work in space with this station(s) and variable gravity, low launch costs, and when partnered with Starship it can be a frequented workplace. NASA could have an entire workforce and staff placed there. On Monday morning you take Starship up, on Friday you take one home.
Biggest Hurdle for Multi-Planetary Civilization is not Technical Why do these things matter? How does a massive orbital station help the core mission of SpaceX reach colonization of Mars? I was talking with a few people the other week about going to Mars as I am someone who believes it is the grandest adventure one could take. I am one of those people who has the goal, to be at that point in life that, I can sell my home, buy a ticket, move to Mars, and live on a hostile planet with other human beings so that one day a thriving civilization will arise from dust. However, when listening to Rogan talk to the Astronaut Reisman, he thinks only crazy people will go. That is when it dawned on me after all these conversations, why a massive station matters. Why seeing huge rocket land and it seeming so routine and normal matters. Why the public’s perception of space, not just of people going wanting to colonize Mars, but all space, matters. For the average person, the taxpayer to support what NASA does, to get Congressional and Senate support, they have to see it as normal and reasonable. The public no longer has the stomach for the excitement of the amazing and unknown, only the safe and maybe slightly a little bit out there. We need funding for more than rockets to get there; we need more than a rail road, we need more than Starship to colonize and send people to Mars.
We Can’t Wait Part of what SpaceX does is to push that edge so that edge that once seemed impossible now seems probable until that probable becomes normal and expected, but we must not just dream big, but we must also think wide. We need a large gravity station that can test long-term effects of Mars and Moon like gravity on humans, plants, and animals, including embryonic development because if we are going to have a colony we need to have babies. Ethically we can not wait to put our best minds on the problems of human development for colony research into reproduction until after we are colonizing, we need to start now. Life, uh, finds a way. It can end miracuously or terribly tragically and it is something we have to have figured out before people land there. We need this station to test out plant strains whether grown in Martian soil or hydroponically in .38g or .16g best grow, not when we first set boots there, but now, so it's ready for when we get there. We need to see how cats, dogs, fish, cows, pigs, etc live, grow, react to being in these types of environments. Part of the reason we seek to make life multi-planetary is so that the consciousness and life are not extinguished should something happen on Earth. If we go alone not only is that a lonely way to go it would be selfish. Besides, as much as people ethically want lab grown meat, there should be a backup if the fate of humanity is at risk. We want to joke about space tourism being a joke for someone going up for 20 mins, or a couple of orbits, let’s stop making it a joke and make it a real thing. Space isn’t a joke, space isn’t the future, space is now, and space should be as real for every day folk as taking a cruise. It needs to be that if we want to explore the oceans of Europa with manned subs or see the rings of Saturn for ourselves. Colonizing Mars, are we just going there to die? Life needs things to live and there is more to life than growing food, eating, defecating, sleeping, and breeding. We don’t just want to live on Mars to die on Mars, or Space, or the Moon. We want to live on Mars or on the Moon or in Space - SO we can explore it. We don’t just want to get up in the morning sip our coffee watch the blue sunrise of mars and think, with that calm melancholy of contentment “yup I’m done”, no, we get up with a spark of life and think, “I’ve got so much more to do and see!” Yeah getting there, landing there* (in one piece), and living there is a big piece of the puzzle, but we have to remember part of getting somewhere is the journey getting there. We need to remember Mars is part of the journey not the end. There are other gardens to build and maintain before we get there, and after..
Switching to Stainless Steel Changed Everything How big would such a gravity research station be? How would you launch such an orbital station? While I may not get these numbers right, first draft I propose building a 20 meter launch vehicle; Uber Heavy (UH) lifter and Super Starship (SSS), the UH sitting roughly the same height as the current Super Heavy (SH) and the SSS roughly only 20 meters taller than the SS (with exception to special mission designed fairings). The purpose of this vehicle is to launch 18m ring sections of Starship grade stainless steel with a robotic system that would weld these sections to create massive tubular ring for a station. A floating donut if you will. The SSS would have a robot system protruding out of the end and would act like a spider spinning a web with each 18m ring section completed. First unfurling the rolled cut coiled stainless steel from the cargo bay, then welding the single seam weld to create the ring and birthing the first ring. A secondary precut curve strip would be welded on by the robot and the ring would in forward as another ring would have its single seam welded before welded to the curve strip and the ring the whole section would then be continuously pushed out of the SSS. Again imagine a spider spinning its web or a birthing process. This process may take multiple launches depending on how big of a ring is made and the robot may need to be removed from the ship for ring completion. Once this ring is completed on opposing sides strong docking ports, preferably with potential to rotate Starship can dock and provide energy to boost, spin, and despin. However, this ring can be completed multiple times to create multiple stations for different uses such as fuel depots, where the larger 20m SSS can drop off fuel for the fleets of 9m SS and avoid thousands of launches to send hundreds of ships to Mars. Or one can connect multiple rings together and weld plates to create a drum tube like the Nauvoo from the Expanse.
Why a single 20m vehicle?
Can refuel 9 meter vehicle in less launches than other 9 meter versions
9m is more suitable for Mars in-situ resource production
Can launch and build massive stations out of 18-15-9m construction materials
Can launch 9 m Starship with full vacuum only raptors which can then aerobrake with Earth and dock at dedicated transfer station SpaceX station for physical attunement back to Earth
Reduces launch cadence for refueling, range, noise, landing ships
If not used often Raptors can be placed on other ships
Reduces number of launches for tankers for “fleets” of 9m SS down order of magnitudes
Larger launch windows with weather
Falcon Heavy (FH) was louder than SH according to Environmental Impact Study (EIS)
May mean 20m vehicle may or may not be as loud as people think
Still would need massive launch and landing pad
Why build a SpaceX Gravity Spin Station?
Dedicated transfer station allows for testing and training of people on safety for departing and returning passengers, including gravity acclimation
Logically easier to have Starship Shuttles (similar to Earth to Earth SS) to EO stations and dedicated Mars colonial ships for passengers already in orbit, due to the nature of in orbit refueling
Allows for testing of larger life support systems for Earth to Mars and Moon Missions in increments rather than current component legacy methodologies
Can be used as a shipyard to build other deep space vessels or gateways for other companies or agencies
Workyard in an easy orbit compared to ISS, with 9m Starship could go up to work for a few days can come back by the end of the week
Used with 20m SSS tanker a ring refueling station means tanking can be done way in advance of launch windows, meaning launch assuredness goes up
SpaceX can simply wait in orbit refuel and wait to launch when time is best
No more launch windows, simply rideshare to station on SS and all launch providers launch from station with vacuum/space rated stages to desired orbits
Massive amounts of pressurized volume and space means no more expenditure miniaturizing science equipment and reduction of launch costs so massive boost to scientific study of all kinds science
Stations could be sold or rented for real space tourism
In-space welding
Whether vacuum welds or cold-welding for superior welding of steel for Starships fleets
Conclusion Ultimately SpaceX can always get to Mars by itself, it has all the tools in place to eventually get people, and probably one day a colony there. But with public support, NASA, and the US government the speed and reliability of such an accomplishment is that much stronger. It would no longer be the pursuit of the few great minds of our civilization, but a grand undertaking realized by a civilization as a whole. This is perhaps one of the biggest reasons why space must be made great again, so that whatever accomplishments we strive to make as individuals, can be championed as part of humanity. If some us or our descendants look back at a pale blue dot and remember that only the tiniest of a fraction of a percent cared to make life interplanetary and the rest never bothered to take their gaze off the horizon to even notice that pale red dot, then that tribal divides we have here on planet are going to look childish in comparison. Space is more than just Mars, more than just the Moon, and when SpaceX changed to stainless steel it completely changed the paradigm for everything we ever considered what was possible for what should come next in space, whether space stations, rockets, vehicles, landers, or whatever you can imagine. Right now, the 9 meter Starship is a legacy part. It exists because SpaceX needs to deliver Starlink, but when you think of it everyone is still thinking in the old paradigm of what is possible. Space is big, so much more is possible, you just have to dream big and dream of all space.
