How should I respond to this scammer? (eBay Bitcoin Scam in progress)
I talked my parents into buying some bitcoin, my parents are big on ebay and they saw a lot of listings of people selling bitcoin. I let them sell a couple bitcoin on eBay before I saw about all the scams, and well, now we are experiencing one firsthand. http://imgur.com/a/fIwNm I've linked all our emails back and forth, but here's the short version - We sold 1 BTC on eBay, waited about a day and a half, got payment(paypal, stupid I know), sent him his BTC. He waited about a week, said 'hey I never got my BTC' at this point I already knew he was scamming us, and had made my parents cease all BTC selling endeavors on eBay, but now he's started an Ebay investigation and he's saying he hasn't received his BTC. I don't know how to respond. My dad wants to yell at him but I want to try to be smoother about it, should I just flat out accuse him of scamming? Should I ask him if he knows how to access his wallet? My mother seems to think he might just not know how Bitcoin works or something. I am honestly at a loss for how to reply, has anyone ever won when this type of thing goes to an eBay resolution? Maybe this should go to /advice or something because that's kind of what I'm asking for, but anyway, how should I respond to this scammer?
Selling Bitcoin on Ebay - "Hypothetically scamming the scammer" - How would this play out?
Hi Everyone - I, along with allot of people thought it would be a great Idea to resell bitcoin from one of my sources on Ebay. Great to do when you don't do any research right!? Well like allot of you, 75% of my buyers claimed there account had been hacked, started a case with Paypal etc etc etc. Luckily i'm not Down too much! However, I wanted to ask you experienced sellers/ Paypallers etc how this would pan out: "Hypothetically of course" When this occurs, Paypal asks you to either refund the full amount or prove that you sent the item. As my Bitcoins i am listing is in the BitMiners Category it is listed as a physical product. What If "Hypothetically" you sent a Blank evenlope to the Scammer with Tracking. Then upload the tracking info to Paypal. Would PayPal be able to take the Sellers side and let you keep the money? How would this pan out? Thanks!
I have become a victim of an eBay / PayPal Bitcoin charge back scam.
I'm trying to work with ebay, paypal, and I would like for the police to get involved as well. I am being scammed out of approximately $2000.00 worth of bitcoins that I sold on ebay over the last several weeks. There are two users who have filed PayPal chargebacks against me. The users are: fiedlerhm3224 and auscooter12. I believe this is a very sophisticated scam since both of these users have been ebay members for many years and have many positive feedbacks. So I believe what has happened is a perpetrator has stolen and taken over these userids and has orchestrated the scam, gaining my trust, sending me money for which I sent the bitcoins, and then, once the real owner found out (perhaps they got a call from the credit card company?) at that point the real user activated a charge back. Either that, or these two users really are the scam artists themselves, which I find unlikely. I was able to trace the IP number of one of them who claims to be living in VA to a CA location, to a server that has been marked as a potential "botnet" threat. This is why I think this was a highly sophisticated attack and that ebay/paypal/law enforcement should investigate it thoroughly. I am ready to cooperate fully and have all the records of the bitcoin transactions, as well as email communications that I have had with these two scammer buyers The most disgusting thing is these scammers had left me a string of positive feedbacks, only to stick the knife in, in the end! This sort of behavior does nothing for the ebay community or for any community for that matter. If anyone has any advice for me I would be very interested in hearing from you. The title says it all. The shitty part is that communicating with Paypal is like communicating with a bunch of spoiled brats. So there's that... Applying the Ebay gift card code causes an error, when reapplying the code you might get an auto process that doesn't take you to paypal and then some how charges your credit card on file... So there's that too. I am thinking that all three of these companies can go jump off a cliff and you know the rest...
Butterfly Lab scam auctions on eBay are getting out of control. This particular auction is for a pre-ordered 30GH/s unit with a low order number of 7. Dude didn't even take the time to properly edit out his much larger order number. New to bitcoin? Be careful.
Is there currently a solution for bitcoin accounts to establish your trustworthiness as a buyer/seller of bitcoin so that when others approach you for a trade, they feel confident you are not out to scam anyone? Sort of like an ebay seller rating tied to your public key? /r/Bitcoin
Alright.. now that your here maybe you can help.. so I am looking into maybe buying a minning rig off ebay but but the seller asks to pay through Bitcoin but also make a deposit with paypal.. but the item may not ship for a month or three.. my question is if i send Bitcoins to said wallet.. before the item ships whats stopping him from running off with my money if its all anonymous.. there would be no trace back to him if the item never showed and no regulation from my understanding.. is there something im missing... this would be the link but ive noticed others.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BitForce-Mini-Rig-SC-1-500-GH-s-BitCoin-Miner-Butterfly-Labs-ONLY-176-10-BTC-/261199252235?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd0b04b0b
I've actually bought some bitcoin on ebay, I gave the seller my wallet address but I've never received any, but at least I got a refund when I asked for it. Are there any legitimate bitcoin sellers on ebay that anyone can recommend?
I am wondering if the contracts on ebay is just some sort of scam? Namely, I notice contracts for sale where the bids are even higher than the GH/s is even predicting for a profit...is this like buying lottery tickets in a way? Buying a hedge on the 24 hours? For example, 30 GH/s is going to make you .0213BTC....or assume at 1000USD/BTC, $21.30... Then why is the bids up around $30? Is that a hope for a "luckier 24 hours"

When buying or selling bitcoin locally, a counterparty may ask you to meet in person to conduct the exchange. If it isn't a trusted party that you already know, this is a very risky proposition that could result in you getting robbed or injured. Con-artists have also been known to exchange counterfeit fiat currency in exchange for bitcoin. I am an Ebay seller with over 1000 positive feedbacks. I have been on PayPal for over 15 years with no problems. After acquiring some Bitcoin, I decided to sell a small anount on Ebay. Two transactions, paid through PayPal, emails through Ebay's email communications and everything seemed fine. It's important to note that these are scams that have existed for much longer than Bitcoin has been around. Most have been adapted to take advantage of this new payment form, but have previously and are still conducted using gift cards, Western Union/MoneyGram, money orders, or even bank wires.
