You're converting your CS:GO sensitivity wrong, here is why.
UPDATED: This new FOV method is the ONLY way to achieve a near-perfect 1:1 conversion between both games, providing you are willing to loose (or gain in some situations) a little bit of screen real-estate. This will match your games' FOVs in terms of screen distances by taking advantage of Valorant's locked FOV. This is now my preferred method, and I'll leave it at the top. I've left the old post below if anyone can't handle loosing some screen real-estate. In the following few paragraphs, most use-cases are covered. I will create a set of custom resolutions to run Valorant at below. These should all be scaled 1:1 by your video card on your monitor (No Scaling, aka, no pixel stretching). If you have stretched CSGO, you are screwed, see the next paragraph. 4:3 non-streched users can rejoice, as can 16:9 users. 16:10 users can't use the FOV method, but get a reasonable multiplier, and aren't entirely screwed, but its not as good news as the 16:9 and 4:3 non-stretched users who get heaps of options. For non-streched users, these will all use the standard 3.18 divider for your CSGO sensitivity, as we have matched FOV, and we can happily match 360 rotations AND achieve perfect on-screen distance for aim. If you don't want to have any black bars on the horizontal, just match the vertical resolution to the same as CSGO. I believe this will give you some vertical sensitivity error though (eg: instead of using 3622x2038 in Valorant in the first example in the resolution list below, I could just use 3622x2160 and accept some vertical error, but only take on side black bars, with no top and bottom black bars. Valorant will look a little more distorted though too). If you can't figure it out with other weirder CSGO configs, feel free to request, and I can give it a go, but I have already spent a lot of time on this and would rather let people start reporting them in. If you really can't figure it out, ask and let me know. STRETCH USER: Note to users who take a CSGO 4:3 native ratio/resolution and stretch it out to fill a 16:9 or 16:10 monitor: TLDR: Stretched CSGO users are screwed. Nothing can be done, and as I said near the bottom of my original post, this is your punishment for sweating over fat terrorists your whole life. It is IMPOSSIBLE to salvage the same FOV in valorant. You have an hFOV of 90 in CS, stretched out to take up your whole screen real-estate. You need to somehow get Valorant's hFOV from 103 down to 90. You can't. You would have to somehow superscale the game past the edge of your monitor, and clip its wings, loosing much of your HUD, and I also have no idea how you could even render it like that. For these users, either use the original 3.18 value, or 2.53 if you want your horizontal distance to match. See my footnote for stretched users way below (2.53 will FUBAR your vertical sens for Valorant, and give you radically wrong 360 motion.). There is no ideal solution for stretch CS users. For most stretch users, I would recommend the 3.18 value as a starting point and learning the new sensitivity. Any data I presented was based on Non stretch conversions. Stretch conversions has the same kind of error gradient that emerges, but radically worse. CUSTOM RESOLUTIONS FOR VALORANT TO MAINTAIN A 1:1 FOV CONVERSION WITH CSGO: CSGO NOT STRETCHED, 1:1 implies pixel perfect scaling. Pixel doubling would also be ok (using resolutions half the amount of your monitors native). If you are not 1:1, or 2:1 with pixels, it might still work as long as the ratios are the same, depending on how your graphics card behaves. Not listed below? If your CSGO VERTICAL resolution is listed below, then pick any one that has the same vertical res as you, regardless of horizontal, and find the valorant conversion. They all become the same, because csgo just clips your horizontal anyway. Simple formula!!!: Take your csgo vertical resolution (the 1080 in 1920x1080 for example): Times by 0.9428793 = new Valorant horizontal res Times by 1.67622932 = new Valorant vertical res Thank you to x_Delirium in this following post for the math (I adapted his math to figure out the vertical constant without needing to use mouse-sensitivity.com): https://www.reddit.com/VALORANT/comments/fw5nb9/guide_how_to_get_valorant_103_fov_in_csgo/ Common list already done for you, rounded to nearest whole and even numbers: CSGO: 3840×2160 1:1 16:9 -> Valorant: 3620x2036 1:1 CSGO: 2880x2160 1:1 4:3 -> Valorant: 3620x2036 1:1 CSGO: 2560x1440 1:1 16:9 -> Valorant: 2414x1358 1:1 CSGO: 1920x1440 1:1 4:3 -> Valorant: 2414x1358 1:1 CSGO: 1920x1080 1:1 16:9 -> Valorant: 1810x1018 1:1 **\* CSGO: 1440x1080 1:1 4:3 -> Valorant: 1810x1018 1:1 **\* CSGO: 1366x1080 1:1 ??? -> Valorant: 1810x1018 1:1 **\* CSGO: 1280x960 1:1 4:3 -> Valorant: 1610x906 1:1 CSGO: 1024x768 1:1 4:3 -> Valorant: 1288x724 1:1 CSGO: 1280x720 1:1 16:9 -> Valorant 1206x678 1:1 CSGO: 960x720 1:1 4:3 -> Valorant 1206x678 1:1 CSGO: 640x480 1:1 4:3 -> Valorant 804x452 1:1 **\* See how if you use a blackbar res that isn't 4:3, you can get 1:1 with valorant by finding a res above that matches your csgo VERTICAL res, here, that res is 1080. A decent guide for custom rez creation: https://appuals.com/how-to-create-custom-resolutions-on-windows-7-8-or-10/ 16:10 Native USERS CSGO: Any 1:1 16:10 NATIVE Resolution -> Valorant IMPOSSIBLE. You only have 100.39 degrees of FOV in CSGO, and you have no more monitor horizontal space to work with to give Valorant room to breathe. It is the same fundamental problem the stretch users are facing. If you use 16:10 on a monitor natively, but somehow have horizontal black bars (this would be weird and unlikely) then it might be possible to do something. For 16:10 users, your best bet is to just use 3.18 or 3.037 (based on my original post's logic) as your sens divider, and see what you prefer, or use something in between. Fortunately for you, 3.037 is a decent multiplier that won't fuck your vertical sense, or 360 too badly. It is pretty much as good as the 3.370 multiplier that 16:9 users who don't want to match FOV can use. 16:9 USERS NOT WILLING TO CHANGE THEIR SCREEN REAL-ESTATE TO MATCH FOV The divider value I originally posed as being better than 3.18: 3.370 Not everyone will agree, no problem. Consider 3.18 to 3.37 as the sensitivity region you may like. If you pick one, and something feels wrong, try the other. Yes, my original claim about 3.18 being the downright wrong choice is alarmist. Some people will reasonably prefer one or the other, and there are merits to both choices, as I pointed out all along. Now back to the ideal FOV changing method, and how this ideal FOV matching method works: CSGO maintains a variable horizontal FOV depending on resolution ratio width, and at 16:9, it is 106.260205, and maintains 73.739795 vertical FOV, LOCKED. At more boxed resolutions/ratios, the sides get sliced off, and you loose hFOV. You never lose vFOV Valorant maintains a tight 103 horizontal FOV, and ~ 70.5328 vertical FOV. BOTH locked. I've tested this in game by wildly changing ratios and custom resolutions. The game image will always distort to maintain the H and V FOV. We can use this to our advantage to distort Valorant into a screen space that matches what those angles and distances would be in CSGO. Valorant is basically just a slightly zoomed in image compared to CSGO, so now we are going to zoom it out on our monitor a bit to match it. I originally did some incorrect math to convert this (didn't use trig...). There is a simpler way using the mouse-sensitivity website. I'll run through what I did for my screen (2560x1440). This should be correct providing the mouse-sensitivity equations are correct behind the scene, and I do trust that they are. (This is redundant now. I used the trig to get the constants. See near the res list to the easiest method possible). Select CSGO as your game. Set sens and DPI. Set res to 2560x1440 (or your native res of CSGO). Start to adjust the 2560 number until it closes in on 103 degrees actual hFOV at the data readout. 2414 pixels is the spot... We just found out what our horizontal res needs to be for valorant (with some small black bars) to match perfectly to csgo, seeming valorant will lock at 103 hFOV no matter what. You could stop there, and it would be pretty good. Horizontal aim and 360 degree matching is now near pixel perfect. I haven't proven this, but I believe your vertical aim will still be off though. So let's do the same for vertical matching: Now, convert to Valorant as the output. Set the above horizontal res number just found (2416) as your Valorant res. Now adjust the Valorant vertical res number, until Actual vFOV output closes in on 70.5328. This is taking advantage of what I believe is actually a bug on the Valorant data on the website: it thinks valorant's vFOV can change, even though it can't, so we can use it to figure out what pixel count will salvage our smaller vFOV with black bars. I believe for me, 1358 is that number. If they fix this, we will loose the ability to easily match this using the website (redundant now, we can just use the trig derived constants instead of the website. See above the Res list). Redundant: However, it will still be possible to do by matching it until the vertical distance based sensitivities are the same as the 360 degree rotation sensitivities, but it won't be quite as precise or easy, and will require payment on the site. It is plausible that the vertical component of this is slightly off, but I can't see how or why, and if it is, it would be a tiny deviation. If anyone wants to do the math manually to check, please do. We now have a new resolution 2414x1358. Set this with NVIDIA control panel, (or AMD, not familiar with it though) as a custom res, and use it in valorant. Divide your csgo sens by 3.18, or use the default (and free) 360 match on the website (it is doing the same division, just more decimals), and use that. Set scope multiplier to 0.747, or set/leave to preference (see closer to bottom of my original post far below). I still use 0.747. A near perfect 1:1 experience between both games is now achieved within a tiny and imperceptible margin of error. All we have done is matched Valorant to fill 103 degrees of CSGO's 106.26xxx screen real-estate on the horizontal (talking from a 16:9 perspective), and 70.5328 degrees of CSGOs 73.73xxx on the vertical. You may have lost about 11% of your screen real-estate. Effectively, it is like playing CSGO with a little bit of the top, bottom and sides of your screen sheered off. The benefit is a near perfect match in horizontal and vertical behaviour at both the aimer, all the way through to 360 degree movement, a 1:1 match. If you just do the black bars at the sides, your vertical sensitivity will be the same as when using the 360 method, so slightly off, but you've salvaged your horizontal sens completely. Add the vertical black bars, and it should be perfect all-round. If you use a 4:3 CSGO native resolution, you will GAIN screen real-estate in order to match FOV. A few notes. This does NOT significantly distort Valorant from a native 16:9 (providing you are coming from 16:9 CSGO). Things look absolutely fine. You will almost certainly need to run on Fullscreen mode for it to function well. Windowed mode would work too, but leave your desktop in the wings. Fullscreen Windowed doesn't work for me, it just stretches it back out to full screen. Are there any negatives to the FOV method in terms of perception and aim? Well, your perception may hinge somewhat on the moving region of the screen being identical in both games. However, I think it most likely that matching FOV, and distances on your monitor, sitting roughly equidistant at all times, and having everything else perfect, will be by far the most successful method for the vast majority of users transitioning between games. I personally have also clipped CSGO now to give it 103 FOV on the horizontal instead of 106.26 (giving me the same vertical black bars between both games) for the utmost consistency. So the only difference between the two games is Valorant has some horizontal black bars. Doing this of course didn't impact my sensitivity in CSGO at all, it just clips the image at the sides a little, giving me some black bars. Remember, CSGO's horizontal FOV is variable based on resolution. My CSGO res: 2416x1440 native black bar ~ 103x73 FOV blackbars on sides My valorant res: 2416x1358 ~ 103x70 FOV blackbars on sides, top and bottom. Hopefully that makes sense. If you refuse to loose a bit of screen real estate, this is my original post below which uses a different divider that prioritises screen distance instead of 360 degree rotation as the method of matching sensitivities between both games. Both my number below, and the original 3.18 number (without doing what I propose above) will have significant errors, in different parts of your aiming. I argue that my number is better if you want to match your aim. It won't feel right for everyone, and some still preferred 3.18, which is perfectly reasonable. I personally now will be using my above method of matching FOV for a 1:1 match, making this entire section obsolete. THE ORIGINAL POST WITH THE ORIGINAL VALUES THAT CAN RECOVER SOME OF YOUR AIM IF IT WAS FEELING OFF, FOR THOSE NOT WILLING TO LOOSE SOME SCREEN REAL-ESTATE: IMPORTANT EDIT: This new number can change depending on your game window ratio. If you are not using the simple 16:9 to 16:9 conversion, proceed with caution. This is largely, although not just, due to how valorant distorts to maintain its 103 hFOV. However, it should be ok if neither game is distorted. So black bars 4:3 CS is ok, as long as valorant is 16:9. I encourage you to head to mouse-sensitivity.com to get a more reliable value using 0% horizontal distance as your match if there is any deviation from these norms. It will cost $3. To anyone I recommended a value to NOT using 16:9, it may be wrong. Apologies. I have a caveat about stretch to non-stretch conversions in a footnote you need to be aware of if deploying this. TLDR: The normal method is to divide your CSGO sens by 3.18. This doesn't actually give you correct aim, only a correct abstract sense of movement in the world. Divide by the below instead: 16:9 CSGO to 16:9 Valorant (Native to native): 3.370 4:3 CSGO blackbar non-streched to 16:9 Valorant: 3.370 4:3 CSGO STRETCHED to 16:9 Valorant (Don't fuck with valorant here, it won't behave how you hope): 2.53 PEOPLE USING STRETCHED CONVERSIONS, SEE THE FOOTNOTE BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS PLEASE :) TLDR IS THAT ALL OPTIONS SUCK AND YOU REALLY MAY WANT TO JUST STICK WITH 3.18. Ideal, and common scope multipliers are given at the bottom in the scope footnote. For any other weird options, again, pay and go do the work at mouse-sensitivity.com Yes, using 3.370 will 'feel' a little slower to get around in Valorant now compared to 3.18, at worst about 6% slower in fact, but your aim is more likely to be left in tact. Use whatever you prefer though. Just giving people another option and some stats to what the difference is. Keep reading if you want to know why these proposed conversions (really just the 3.370 one) are technically "better" than 3.18: This is the bulk of my original post: ORIGINAL POST AND PROOFING: People are under the impression that they should be converting their sensitivity from CS:GO by dividing their CS:GO sensitivity by 3.18... People think this will give them the same sensitivity, thus muscle memory, between the games. They are (kind of) wrong. This will only give you the same sense of traversing the game world, as it matches the amount of distance required to move your mouse for a 360 degree rotation. BUT, due to the FOV difference between the two games of 3.26 degrees, you will not have the same feeling of SENSITIVITY. Here is the result of some math as to why. How far do I have to move my mouse, in order to get from where my crosshair is, to where that enemies head is on my screen? You can only achieve a perfect conversion between the two games at ONE point on your monitor. ONE distance. And I can tell you, the 360 degree rotation conversion is wildly off, unless you intend to do a few rotations first in order to hit someone in the head. I ran the math, and the correct point to calibrate to on your screen is almost certainly 0%, right at the crosshair, making subtle movements at the crosshair (in order to target enemies near your crosshair) perfect between both games. Many may already be aware of this, but it is interesting to understand why. Ok, if we use the 0% conversion, we end up with a 1:1 SENSITIVITY match between CS:GO and Valorant AT THE CROSSHAIR. Great, but what about points AWAY from the middle of my screen? Well, things gradually get worse the further the distance, and I will provide the percentage of deviation from a perfect match between the special 0% mark, and the very edge of your monitor, if you set at this 0% mark, and I include the error in doing a 360 too. %distance from edge of screen to crosshair with 0% reference: % error in ideal conversion from CSGO at 0% reference What do we notice? Perfect conversion (within a few units of error not shown) within a full 15% distance from crosshair to edge of your screen. And very low error, less than 1%, all the way up to 50% distance to edge of screen. This is the hot spot region of aiming. If you are flicking to the VERY edge of your screen, 100% of the way, you have a 2.89% error. Achieving a 360 degree rotation has a 6.02% error, so moving around the game world will feel a bit slower compared to CS:GO, but your aim is comparatively left in tact. A 180 will have about a 5.78% error according to my best calculations. To compare, lets check the error at each aiming location using the 360 degree as our baseline, the common method where one divides their CS:GO sens by 3.18... %distance from edge of screen to crosshair at 360 rotation reference: % error in ideal conversion from CSGO 360 rotation reference We can see, our 0% distance from edge of screen naturally carries the most error with this method. The aiming hotspot is the WORST translated region. Only a 360 spin is well conserved, NOT your aim. Even aiming to the edge of the screen at 100% carries a (slightly) higher error of 2.95 compared to matching your aim to the 0% mark (2.89% error). At 120% distance from your crosshair (heading offscreen by 20%) the methods switch place, and the 360 degree method becomes less error prone compared to 0% matching. So, unless you intend your muscle memory to be all about matching for flicking to targets OFFSCREEN, you should absolutely NOT be using the default division by 3.181818.... Match instead to 0%, and divide your CS:GO sensitivity by 3.370 (This is accurate to +- 0.001 units of Valorant sensitivity). This will give you a cleaner conversion in the region of your monitor from 0% to about 115% off your screen, with the MOST conserved sensitivity region being closest to your crosshair. What is better... for your near-crosshair aiming to carry a 5.68% error? Or a 180 spin to carry about the same amount of error while your key crosshair region carries between none to 1% error. You get the latter with the division I provided above. It seems to me a no-brainer as the better option. SCOPE FOOTNOTE: As for your scope multiplier? Unfortunately, at this time you can only correct for one zoom level. I use the 2.5x zoom, to correct the scopes to the same 0% level of my valorant sensitivity, and if you correct as I have said, using the superior 0% CSGO conversion, you will also end up with your scopes behaving the same between CS:GO and valorant. Otherwise, they too will carry the error over from the 360 degree conversion. These values are below (assuming you use 3.370 as your division initially, things get wonky if you want to keep to your 360 degree rotation conservation, yet want your scopes to somehow match). These are independent of your sens. I think the default of 1.0 in Valorant is equivalent to calibrating all of them to the edge of your screen, 100% by distance. This is, at least, a consistent behaviour. I personally still change it to 0.747. SCOPE: To correct the 2.5x valorant scope: 0.747 This = ~ 0.82 from CSGO. Specifically0.818933 A note about scope multipliers: The ideal provided above is for matching your scope movement to distance via the exact same logic as presented for matching the two games, at 0% distance. A few other common scope mulits that people like: CSGO 1.2 = 1.142 Valorant CSGO 1.0 = 0.927 Valorant ALL these values are dependent on using 3.370 as your primary sensitivity divider, and not 3.18. Otherwise, your scopes will carry the error of the primary sens. If using different stretched values, these scoped values should still work ON THE HORIZON. Remember, stretched conversions cook your vertical sensitivity, and you can't do anything about it. Hopefully Valorant releases the ability to tune every scope/ADS level individually, because right now, every other ADS will be a bit off compared to the ideal 2.5x scope. But still closer than the default 1.0 value. For example, the 1.25x ADS of the vandal etc should be set to 0.870, and will be a bit slow with the 0.747 setting. Yes, scope values can, although not always, change if you deviate from the default 16:9 to 16:9. STRETCHED GO TO VALORANT FOOTNOTE (or vice versa, non-stretched to stretched): Converting from stretched to any Valorant can COOK your vertical sens. Nothing can be done, this is your punishment for sweating over fat terrorists your whole life. The divider for 4:3 stretched to Valorant is generically 2.53. Any divider that deviates from 3.18 will increasingly add error to your 360 degree movement. This means that the with a stretch value you end up with a much greater error ramp through the distances, even though your 0% and nearby is correct. I don't have the percentages of error, and I can't be bothered running them, but expect it to be awful. Not to mention, you can't salvage horizontal AND vertical sens anyway with thiscombination, so it still won't feel right. My recommendation for these users is to match to the 360 or nearby (divide by 3.18), tune to personal preference, and learn the new sensitivity, sorry. If you are doing more bizarre conversions, go pay $3 and figure it out at mouse-sensitivity.com using 0% horizontal monitor distance as your hipfire conversion method. Or tune to 3.18 manually, because just like the above, you can't salvage your old sensitivity with varying stretch conversions to any point that won't feel awful on the vertical and 360 movements. BETTER DATA: For the data folk, this much more complete and accurate set of data will give you the error to each point of the screen given a calibration at a specific point. You'll notice at the bottom, all multipliers to use said distance is provided. You'll notice I've used actually the 15% distance as the default, this is because it is a simpler number (3.37) and it actually will give you, almost 100% of the time, the exact same sensitivity as 0% anyway (3.374). However, if you want to have minimum error across the whole visible space, then you actually want to use 50% as your target point (3.334) BUT the error around the crosshair, at 0-15%, is no longer negligible, even though, in reality, across the whole screen, you could consider this the best choice. Sum of the error is of course absolute values. 360 Rot is provided for comparison of error in these regions against the default 3.18(2) method. https://preview.redd.it/z9yz28m5nm451.png?width=602&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e8e88596e7c77faae03c7caf112deef96b0605f DISCLAIMER: I made extensive use of the mouse-sensitivity.com website for gathering all data points involved in these calculations. I did not do any of the math to generate those data points myself, just the analysis. Check them out, and consider giving them some cash if any of this ended up making things better for you. It's a great site.
Razer Gigantus V2 Review - Amazing competitive FPS pad with one major issue -- (Can compare to many other pads listed end of post)
Hey guys, A lot of questions about this pad have been popping up. And a lot of people have shared their pics and first impressions. I’ve had the opportunity to use the 3XL pad for the past week. Big thanks to Razer for sending this one out for me to try. However I should tell you that will in no way change my opinion of the pad. If you’ve seen my other posts you know I’ve grown up on cloth pads. Grew up playing Counter-Strike and ended up settling on a GSR for tournaments and general play. But I've always been on the lookout for something better. Sooo I’ve gone down the extremely expensive road of collecting peripherals lol. I've used the GSR+FK1 for many, many years. I’ve only now finally moved onto another mouse - The xtrfy M4. I’ll make a post about that inmousereviewlater. I don’t generally test out peripherals in aim trainers. I like to practice with the tools given in any game (CSGO Training maps/Valorant practice range/just playing the game) because I truly believe that yields better results. OUT OF THE BOX: Yes, it smells like rubber. It goes away after a few days. It lays flat immediately with no curled edges. I like this. It sits down and hugs my desk like it belongs there. No stitched edges. Cannot comment on fraying after heavy use. I’d bet my left nut the longevity of this pad will suffer for it on arm aimers. I’d like to see a stitched edge option in the future even if it’s just on the regular size. BRANDING: Minimal. Zowie style tag in the corner. Perfect. SURFACE: It feels like the QCK and GSR had a baby and Razer gave birth to it. Very smooth to the touch. Arm aimers rejoice, this will be soft and plush. But not too plush your mouse sinks in (Think Artisan XSOFT). My tracking around corners in CSGO/Valorant felt right at home coming from a GSR. Spray transfer (Switching targets in the thick of the moment while already shooting) felt REALLY smooth on this pad. I was making some insane double / triple kills I had no business doing. The friction of this pad is.. Odd. It almost feels like a bit faster version of the Equate. Very little initial but the dynamic is consistent and thick. If that makes sense? I'll explain this more at the end of the post. Cat hair brushed off easily with a horse hair brush I use on my mouse pads. Dirt doesn’t seem to accumulate on it as fast as an Artisan Zero or GSR. Longevity of glide is yet to be seen, but I imagine since there’s no coating and the tight weave screams quality, it’ll last. But don’t quote me. I’ve seen people claim this has no X Y difference, but they are incorrect. It may not be immediately noticeable when you’re using the pad, but if you rub your finger softly left and right, and repeat going up and down, there is noticeable drag. I’ll explain this further: ISSUES: There is one problem with this pad I need to point out. The X Y friction is backwards. I’ve experienced this with two different sized versions of the same pad before. The Mp510. I tried the mat and got an XL for a friend and felt it and immediately noticed the vertical was faster than horizontal, but on my desk mat version it was the normal faster horizontal speed. Refer to this video for a perfect example. One of the guys on Patched, don’t know their names sorry (Great smaller periph channel on YT), says that left to right had more stopping power than vertical movement. That is not how that pad is supposed to work lol. That would be like the GSR being flipped so left and right is super muddy and up and down is fast. Video of them talking about the mp510, linked to the correct time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_AaSHlVVIc&feature=youtu.be&t=163 See what he said? That’s definitely not how that pad is supposed to be. My closest gaming buddy got a Gigantus V2, just the Large sized version that looks like a GSR. He came over for a few beers over the weekend and I asked him to bring it so I could sate my curiosity. The exact same thing happened with the Gigantus V2 except the other way around! My 3XL pad is not oriented correctly. Whether it’s a production issue or the way the pads are stamped out on a production line? (I don't know how these are made) But the XL pads need to be flipped 90 degrees. Their XY is all borked. This is potentially a problem for a lot of people who like pads with XY difference for competitive shooters. I'm sure at the end of the day our brains will eventually compensate, but that's a direct 180 from how pads normally work. If I flip my desk mat vertically and hang it off the back of my desk it feels like a great pad. I’d probably use it. Horizontal glide feels amazing, great stopping power. It's almost perfect, like a mat sized GSR I've been waiting for! ...But having it the right way around the pad was too muddy. I couldn’t make micro adjustments very well unless they were jumping over a box in CS or something. Maybe this was an issue with just my pad? Maybe it's intentional? If it is which one is correct? The 3XL I have with slower Horizontal? or the Large my friend has with slower vertical!? Maybe it was one of the first iterations and this problem was noticed and fixed later on? I don’t know. But you guys should be aware of this issue. You can easily feel for yourself if you rub your finger along in the same angle for X and Y. CONCLUSION: Well constructed cloth pad that screams quality and consistency if you wash it once every 6-8 weeks under heavy use. I would most certainly use this pad as it looks great on my desk, feels great, and provides stable aim for the games I play. However, I can’t use the one I was given because the X Y difference is flipped, and too muddy to use realistically. The price point of this pad, and the availability of it make this a serious contender to the GSR, and especially the QCK. I think it's higher quality than the QCK, and better suited for high skill ceiling competitive shooters. I'd tie this with the GSR. I bet in the next 1-2 years we'll see a big list of Pro Valorant / CS players using the Gigantus v2. (Hopefully one of those people is me LOL) I’d buy one if I knew the one I’d receive wouldn’t have this problem. It would completely replace my GSR. -- As always, I can answer questions about how it relates to different mousepads. For all the people that don't like Pathfinders, let me explain why this nerf is so much more than a nerf.
tldr: The grapple is the hardest skill I had to learn in any game I have ever played. That's it, that's the reason. I am going to start by letting you know that I am not strictly a Pathfinder main, with PF I have around 1.5K kills, with Wraith 3K, Lifeline 1.5K, Bloodhound 1K, Mirage, Bangalore, Octane around 500 kills each, and currently I enjoy playing Loba, so as you can see I have variety and have used a lot of the Legends, even those who were considered useless. And I even hated PF at the beginning because he was so tall, I don't like tall legends, as you can see, I don't really play Gibby, Caustic or Revenant. Now, let me tell you why PF is so much different than all the rest. The grapple is the hardest skill I had to learn in any game I have ever played. That's it, that's the reason. Forget about bunnyhopping and healing, KZ maps on CSGO, skillfull jump, all of that, nothing compares to PF grapple. People keep compairing his grapple to other abilities. "But wraith has the same cooldown!". Yeah she does, because all you need to do is press Q and hold W, that's all it takes. Do you know what happens when you press Q and hold W with PF? You die. Pathfinders grapple is so hard to use correctly, you need so much practice and trial and error. Sometimes I would just go into Firing Range, put on some music, grab a golden helmet, and just grapple around. That's how I learned how to get from the bottom of the big building in Train Yard to the levitating cart, and I have never seen anybody do that except for TSM Albralrlie. All the time, every game, I would use the grapple every 15 seconds, to jump over a rock, to get on a small height, literally anything, just to practice it, because trust me, it's not easy to master. For all of you that never experianced PF the way he was meant to be played, let me give you a few examples: -Most people know that when you are on flat ground, and grapple on that same ground, you need to jump the moment your grapple connects to the ground so you can get some air and not just drag on the ground. But did you know that if you start walking backwards the moment you press Q and then jump after it connects you get a speed boost? Did you know that if you hold S and D while the grapple is flying and jump when it connects you fly sideways in an arch? Did you know that while you do that, if you keep holding D and move your mouse to the right, you fly much closer to the ground for a longer distance on a looser arch? -Did you know that if you grapple at your feet and immediately jump you get boosted 5 meters in the air? -Did you know that if you stand next to a tall building and grapple at the top and do nothing else, you probably won't make it to the top? But if you took two steps back while the grapple is deployed, look to the side, parallel to the building and hold W the moment the grapple is connected, then look towards the building, hold D and move your mouse to the right, you can jump over the whole building and land on the other side? Did you know that? Did you know that if you do those exact steps but jump BEFORE you hit Q, you will land perfectly on top of the building? -Did you know that when you grapple at a point that is higher than you character all you need to do is look to the right, hold D and move your mouse to the right without jumping, you will get slingshoted a looong distance. -Did you know that if you bunny hop at the end of a long low grapple, you can get another 50 even 100 meters of distance covered? -And many many more... Most people don't know. And you bet your ass new players won't learn, because they can't just practice whenever they want, they need to keep that grapple charged and ready just in case, because once you use it, for the next 35 seconds, you are just a robot with Low Profile the size of Caustic, without any combat abilities. That's why the grapple nerf (it was much more than a simple nerf) is such a big deal, and that's why many people are glad it happened, because they never took the time to learn it and never experianced it the way it was meant to be used. Don't make fun Legends unfun to play by nerfing them, instead, buff unfun Legends. This is a game, we play to have fun. Edit: As u/the_disillusi0nist mentioned, I agree that he should have been nerfed for sure, but not 35 seconds. Also, unlimited tacticals in Firing Range?

An actual guide to Apex legends positioning and Game optimization (In depth PC guide part II)
The complete guide on maximising your Apex legends experience.
Welcome (again) to another apex legends guide, due to the success of my first post "How to actually get better at aiming" I decided to create a follow-up guide for all of you out there looking to get better at the game, and willing to take the necessary steps to actually improve. I'm sure you're wondering why I made a second guide since the first one seemed to cover every aspect necessary to excel at the game, and I'm also sure a lot of you are thinking about skipping this guide as it may be unnecessary, well, that's not the case. My first guide did indeed cover multiple aspects which are crucial to comprehend in order to improve, but it wasn't as analytical as it could've been, it was aimed mainly towards beginners and I wasn't sure if it would get positive feedback to begin with, so I kept it simple. This guide is for those of you wanting to take that extra step in order to differentiate yourselves from your opponents and finally climb up in the ranked ladder. In this guide I will be covering in detail: 1) finding the right mouse 2) optimal program settings for increased visibility + fps 3) Advanced aim training 4) In-depth positioning explanation + guide. As you probably already noticed, certain topics of discussion overlap those of my initial guide, but in this guide each of the topics will be analysed to their cores so that you can follow the steps which will be provided and see guaranteed improvement within two weeks of consistent gameplay. I am 100% certain that your in-game performance and Kovaak's scores will increase significantly if you follow my guide, with visible combat performance in Apex legends and a minimum of 5-10% increase for Kovaak's scores if you are closer to beginner level. For those of you questioning what qualifies me to be putting out information in the context about skill-improvement, I have played CSGO competitively with approximately 7k hours in the game, I was ranked in the top 30 McCree players in S6 of overwatch, I am predator in Apex, and I have top 100 scores in multiple 'Kovaak's FPS aim trainer' scenarios and general top 5% scores. If you haven't read through my first guide, you can do that here. Having said all that, let's get started.
Section 1) Finding the right mouse.
When it comes to FPS games, having a mouse which can accurately translate your arm movements into mouse movements in your game is of extreme importance, and as I mentioned in my previous guide, is constantly undervalued by the casual gaming community. There is a common gaming myth that I am certain everyone regardless of the genre of games they play has heard which is that if your mouse works without blatant issues then it does it's job. Such misconceptions are usually passed on by casual gamers that don't support spending $60+ for a quality gaming mouse, but unfortunately such statements are false, which is why you will never see any streamer or competitive player using a 10$ laptop mouse. It would be pretty useless and unfair for me to tell you to go out and spend $60+ on a mouse without providing a logical explanation as to why you should, so let's go over the reasons you need a quality mouse, as well as what makes a good gaming mouse good, and how to find the mouse that suits you best. First things first, why do you need a good gaming mouse? It's pretty simple, when playing PC games, but FPS games in particular, you want your mouse movements to be fast and accurate, and in order to achieve that you need to have a quality mouse, if you try a 180 degree flick on an outdated laptop mouse you will quickly realise the mouse loses track through the movement and is therefore inaccurate and even if it didn't lose track, the built in acceleration would make the movement of the mouse inaccurate relative to the movement of your arm. If you tried something similar as the previous example with tracking a target you will quickly realise the movement isn't perfectly smooth, along with the fact that such mice have delay, which means your reaction time will be slower as a result. Gaming mice offer precision sensors which will track your movement accurately with no delay or acceleration, this is very important as it will maximise your in-game precision by properly mirroring your arm movements as opposed to a generic mouse, not only that, but training with a mouse that is inconsistent in movement will hinder your ability to train your aim as it will mess with your muscle (procedural) memory. Gaming mice also tend to offer much more comfortable ergonomic shapes which will give you a better grip, fit your hand better, and also allow you to go on extended gaming sessions without your hand feeling cramped / tired. It is important that you choose a mouse that has a flawless optical sensor (laser sensors are inaccurate), most modern gaming mice offer flawless sensors, but be sure to check before you buy your gaming mouse; Any 33XX sensor will work flawlessly, with the best sensors in the category being the 3360 and the 3366 along with the Logitech HERO sensor which is a low-power version of the 3360. Now, while precise sensors may be important what is even more important is finding a mouse that fits your hand well, this will depend on two things, one being your hand size, and the other being your grip style. I have created a guide (guide within a guide, nice) to help you measure your hand correctly, as well as understand grip styles.
Hand measurement guide:
In order to measure your hands for the purpose of finding a mouse you will want to measure two things, one is the length of your hand, like so: https://preview.redd.it/2dbuoebzwlv31.jpg?width=316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1b5b4653a5cc9a9ea8b284c99db765ee432767b The other is the width of your hand, like so: not my hands btw Once you have figure out the dimensions of your hand, the format in which mice are presented is L x W. I personally have large hands at 21.5x11 cm, I've been using the Zowie EC2-B Divina for the past year and I am very pleased with it as the shape and texture is ideal for me, being an improved DA shape with a 3360 sensor. The most important aspect of the dimensions in terms of determining which mouse is ideal is the length of your hand. After you have determined your hand size, you need to find out what grip style you use. There are three types of mouse grips, first we have the palm grip, then the claw grip, and finally the fingertip grip. Here is an image showing each grip. https://preview.redd.it/jytnxkf10mv31.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a57cb40687603a844aadd2cda9f436413a558ad5 Once you have the 'L x W' of your hand and have figured out what grip style you use, go to this link and you will be presented with a range of options for mice depending on your hand size and grip style. The recommendations have been put together by RocketJumpNinja himself, for those of you unfamiliar with who he is, he is a Quake player and marginally the best competitive mouse reviewer out there and I would trust him blindly for anything mouse related. Once you have found 1-2 mice you are interested in you can check his mouse reviews on YT for more detailed information on each mouse. Having tested a multitude of mice myself, I would say my favourites have been the Deathadder Elite, Zowie EC2-A and EC2-B series due to their ergonomic designs, and the G305 and GPW due to their flawless wireless capabilities. Other Important Peripherals: As i mentioned in my last guide, while your mouse is by far the most important piece of gaming equipment in your setup, it is also highly recommended that you have 1) A 144hz+ monitor (makes a huge difference and you can get one as cheap as $200) 2) an extra large mousepad 3) A decent mechanical keyboard (membrane keyboards are trash).
Section 2) optimal program settings for increased visibility + fps
This section will be shorter as everything mentioned here will be a technical step by step guide to insure that you are getting the best performance possible in Apex legends. For myself and many others, Apex legends runs smoothly but suffers from certain technical hiccups, such as: lag spikes, stuttering, fps drops, and input lag. I am playing on a 2080ti and yet I used to have these issues affect my gameplay constantly, to a point where I had stopped playing apex for months and only returned towards the end of S2. If you are experiencing any of the aforementioned issues, this step by step process will ensure that you get rid of them and have your game run smoothly. Note that if you have cheap PC components and you are getting low FPS due to that, this guide will not get you to that consistent 144fps goal, but will still improve your current FPS to some extent. There are multiple steps you need to take in order to squeeze every bit of performance out of your game, we'll start with application / file settings, and move on to optimal launch options and in-game settings. For the first optimisation you will want to go through is set the game to run on exclusive fullscreen permanently. To do this you will want to launch the Registry Editor. Once in the Registry Editor you want to navigate to: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\system\GameConfigStore\Children. You will see a bunch of series of numbers / letters here, what you will want to do is hit Ctrl + F which will open up 'Search' and search for "r5apex.exe", you'll find a folder called r5apex.exe or something similar, and you will delete that folder. What this step will do is enable your game to run at exclusive fullscreen mode, which the newer windows versions don't allow you to do for some idiotic reason, and this is far simpler and more convenient than a windows rollback. https://preview.redd.it/qbmzsm4bbmv31.png?width=1425&format=png&auto=webp&s=50e1dbc0da484036a708b1425b5d71911276d126 The next step you want to proceed with is creating an autoexec configuration file for Apex Legends. What an autoexec file does for those of you unfamiliar with the topic (csgo players will know this) is that it will enable you to set certain commands which will automatically be ran in the console every time you run the application corresponding to the file. First, you want to locate the install location for Apex on your PC. For me this is This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Origin Games > Apex. Click on the file called "cfg" and inside you will find a cfg file called "config_default_pc" make a 2nd copy of this file, open it, delete everything inside it, rename the file to "autoexec" and save it. Within this file you want to type in the following commands: hud_setting_minimapRotate 1 This will enable your minimap to rotate in game depending on the position you're facing relative to the map r_shadows 0 This will disable shadows for increased FPS r_fullscreen 1 This isn't fully necessary taking into consideration the previous step. Ensures fullscreen mode. mat_screen_blur_enabled 0 This will remove the blur effect from when you open up your inventory etc. mat_compressedtextures 1 Compresses textures / FPS increase cl_ragdoll_collide 0 Alters collisions possible in ragdoll physics / FPS increase m_rawinput 1 This enables raw input for your mouse, uncertain about if it was enabled on default so I included it optional commands: mat_letterbox_aspect_goal 1.33 mat_letterbox_aspect_threshold 1.33 These two commands in your autoexec will enable you to play on 4:3 resolutions without having black bars https://preview.redd.it/n10sy6vidmv31.png?width=1807&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6b16fb40813cc8079364cd314f490a74f3976f3 Next we will be setting the necessary launch options to enable our autoexec to run when we launch Apex, and to add some more optimisations to our game. In order to get to your launch options launch origin, go to "My Game Library", click on Apex, click on the gear icon below and to the left of 'Play', choose "Game Properties", and finally "Advanced Launch Options". In the text area which says "Command line arguments" add the following: +exec autoexec This will run your autoexec file when you launch the game +cl_showfps 4 This will provide an FPS counter in-game -fullscreen Self explanatory and once again unecessary but better safe than sorry -forcenovsync Disables V-Sync (vsync is horrible and causes mass input lag) -fps_max 190 I cap my fps because I feel like anything above 200 FPS in this game leads to screen tearing, could be wrong but once again, better safe than sorry. https://preview.redd.it/io7ixpd7fmv31.png?width=895&format=png&auto=webp&s=f63156ad487a56c1a280f5b7db59796abfd40337 Finally we have our in-game settings. This part is very simple, you basically want everything on low. Other than your texture streaming budget which should be on "High (4GB VRAM)" if you have a decent GPU, if you're on more of a budget GPU then you can lower this setting as well. https://preview.redd.it/xyynko1wfmv31.png?width=1238&format=png&auto=webp&s=10d7c6783f4098a86c56a7b75d913b0aa9ae663d
Section 3) Advanced Aim Training.
If you read my previous guide, you remember how greatly I emphasised training your aim consistently through "Kovaak's FPS aim trainer" for at least 30 - 60 minutes a day in order to see improvement in that aspect. This is a follow up to that for the people that have taken aim training seriously and want something a bit more advanced to allow their muscle memory to develop for a wider range of arm movements and scenarios. If you consider yourself to be a beginner / intermediate aimer you are better off following the warmup / training routine that I have posted in my first guide, if not, this is a routine which for those of you dedicated to improving your aim.
10 minutes - Tile Frenzy 180 - good warmup
10 minutes - 1wall6targets TE - good point & click training
10 minutes - 1wall 6targets small - same as above but more precise due to significantly smaller targets
10 minutes - 1wall5targets_pasu - (tracking mode) - good tracking training for moving targets
4 runs - Air - one of the most difficult large movement tracking scenarios
5 minutes - Thin Aiming Long Invincible - smooth tracking / arm movement training
5 minutes - Popcorn - tough training for learning how to properly "click heads"
10 minutes - McCoy 1v1 - good single fire training vs. strafing targets / good wingman training
In addition to having more difficult scenarios as part of your training routine, there is an extra step necessary in order to push yourself to improve your aiming mechanics, that is, instead of playing 'Free Play' on these aim training scenarios, play the "challenge" modes. Initially you want to aim for scores above the 'median', as you continue training aim to break your own record as many times within a week as you can. Don't be demotivated if the general 'median' scores are high in Kovaak's, as the average aimer doesn't play challenge mode in Kovaak's to begin with, so the scores you're seeing are above average to begin with. All you should aim for initially as I said is "above average", and within 2 weeks you will see improvement to your scores. If you reach the top 100 ranking in any challenge scenario you know you're doing something very right. https://preview.redd.it/gptgsd1ojmv31.png?width=266&format=png&auto=webp&s=1f5c7a2f78416a718c5cc7cc5fde1c1eccaa0495 Alternatives to Kovaak's FPS aim trainer: If you cannot afford Kovaak's for whatever reason (It's worth the $10 just buy it), you can use 3DAimTrainer or AimLabs instead, or even simply play FFA DM in community csgo servers with your apex ADS sens (HSDM even better for aim training) and monitor your score there, as CSGO sens scaling is the same as apex. Keep note that these alternatives are sub-optimal and I wouldn't recommend them for aim training as I don't have any training routines to offer for those, although if they are your only option it's better than nothing. Note: Don't spend over an hour or two (max) a day on aim training itself as you need a combination of aim training and in-game experience in order to properly improve. If you only play aim trainers you will develop bad habits as you are simply training vs targets in very specific scenarios and not actual players that can think for themselves.
Section 4) Positioning yourself to win in ranked.
I have said on multiple occasions that Apex is 90% about aim, and while this may be true in my case as someone with over 10k hours in FPS games, it may not be the same for everyone. Aim is definitely the dominant factor in distinguishing a good player from a bad player in apex, but there is one certain very important thing which is just as transferable as aim from one FPS game to another, and that is positioning. Positioning is everything in BR games, and people fail to understand this. As many great players will tell you, positioning and general gamesense are many times more important than aim in determining the outcome of a fight. The way you move, the angles you hold, and your position on the map relative to the enemy can sometimes turn the best players into bots if they choose to engage with you. The problem with "learning" to position yourself is that you effectively can't, all you can do is take note of the mistakes you make in this context while playing, and try to consciously avoid those bad habits during your games. Let's break down the three points I mentioned initially.
Active movement / Keyboard input
First off we have individual movement, which means the active movement as an outcome of your keyboard input, one of the first things you need to learn in this context is strafing. Strafing is the action of moving from left to right while engaging in combat / shooting at your opponent, this may sound as simple as spamming your A and D keys while shooting, and technically it is, but there are many other factors to consider. Luckily the accuracy factor while moving in Apex is still 100% during ADS, so you don't need to worry about that while strafing in comparison to e.g. games like csgo, but you will still need to learn how to keep accurate while strafing, and how to strafe in relation to your opponents movement so that you can be as hard as possible to hit. The solution to my first presented dilemma would be to either start up Kovaak's and run some scenarios while strafing instead of standing still to get used to the crosshair / aim adjustment while moving so you can learn to compensate for the repositioning, while the solution to the second dilemma is more complex. Imagine a scenario where you and your opponent are standing 5m away from each other on open ground in train yard ADS'ing each other with a wingman (wingman has 100% ADS move speed) you are both on level ground and strafing from left to right, if you don't actively adjust your strafing to counteract his, you may find yourself in a situation where you're simply mirroring his strafes. In that situation you're effectively making yourself a static target relative to your opponent and you are incredibly easy to hit, you need to practice strafing as an active behavior before it can become subconscious, otherwise you will just be nonsensically spamming your "A" / "D" keys and not effectively hindering the shooter's accuracy onto you. Since apex legends has other movement mechanics such as climbing, sliding, and abilities you should also learn to utilise those aspects of the game in order to make yourself as hard to hit as possible, it doesn't matter what the action is, just never stand still, the harder you make yourself to hit, the higher the chances are that you win the fight, the reason this is harder to do than it sounds as mentioned before, is that you need to learn to move around while in combat while also maintaining the same accuracy, having great movement but effectively sacrificing 50% of your accuracy won't do much to win you a fight. Shortly climbing walls / wall jumping can also be good ways of making yourself harder to hit while in fights, if you don't know how to wall jump it's pretty simple, all you need to do is run for 1.5 seconds minimum, slide towards a wall, jump at the end of your slide while releasing your forward move key (W) and then jump again when you hit the wall and look toward the direction you want to "bounce" in.
Situational awareness
Another aspect of positioning which is crucial in order to get you to win more fights is playing the right angles. You need to be able to assume the outcome of a scenario before engaging in a fight, if the enemy team has highground in trainyard, and has fenced off the windows / entrances as wattson, and you choose to engage the team, you are forced to fight them from lowground while simultaneously allowing them to maintain their position. You will lose this fight 100% of the time because: 1) The enemy can force you to trade fire in the angle they choose since they don't need to reposition and you can only hit them if they peek you. 2) The enemy can stop and heal safely whenever they want 3) It is much more difficult to accurately hit targets partially peeking from an elevated position in relation to you. In this scenario you should know not to engage the team as is, as that will lead to a wipe. Let's discuss potential DPS here, Potential DPS is the amount of DPS possible on a target in the current instance if every single shot hits the target. The potential DPS you have on a Pathfinder behind a wall is 0, The potential DPS you have on a pathfinder full body peeking you for 10 seconds straight = The amount of damage the weapon you're holding can output in 10 seconds, and the potential DPS on a pathfinder jigglepeeking behind a wall depends on the effectiveness of his movement. In the Wattson / Trainyard scenario the enemy has a much higher potential DPS on you if you choose to engage in a fight, therefore it is wiser to avoid it until they reposition, or force them to reposition. When holding angles you want to force your enemies to reposition to your liking so you can maximize your potential DPS, if you are peeking a 90 degree angle from behind a tree, and you know an enemy is going to push you within the next second, you are already pre-aiming the enemy and therefore maximizing your potential DPS, while he has to turn the corner, locate your exact position, move his crosshair onto you, and start firing. In such situations you should always win the DPS trade unless your weapon doesn't allow you to due to the damage cap, e.g. a p2020 vs. a wingman.
Map rotations
Finally the last aspect of positioning that you need to take into account in order to win your games (this is especially important in ranked) is learning when and how to rotate. This is not a topic that I can go too in detail about since you need to experience team rotations on your own, and me covering this entire aspect of movement would effectively mean that I create a graph of every single potential rotation on the map relative to drop zones. Rotations in apex are the group movement of a team from point 'a' to point 'b', in contrast with individual / active movement this is a different issue you have to tackle which relates much more to experience and gamesense than your mechanical input. When you play ranked games keep an eye out for common drops and where people choose to move to once they have dropped, e.g. Teams that drop refinery and survive tend to move to epicenter after the initial looting phase, or teams that skyhook tend to move to drill site and then train yard, etc. etc. In terms of rotations you need to be roughly aware of where the teams currently are on the map, obviously you won't be able to know 100% of the time the exact location of other players, but it is useful to be able to tell "Oh we're in trainyard right now and we just finished looting, I know there's a team over at Depot, and a couple in capitol city, and the ring is closing out Capitol therefore the teams there will be moving towards us". This awareness skill is something which will save you from wiping many times, especially in higher ranks, knowing not to take a route when zone is closing because a team will be gatekeeping the zone is crucial.
Stop running away!
The final aspect I wanted to briefly mention is the whole ranked playstyle which seems to be engrained in the brains of mid-lower rank players in gold and platinum, which is that they play in a way which involves camping buildings and running from fights the entirety of the game in order to get placement RP. This is not something that will help you improve in the game, nor something that will get you RP the fastest, and will ultimately lead to you being hardstuck in a rank you can't mechanically compete in even if this works for you, nobody likes having that one teammate that can't fend for themselves in a gunfight, or that teammate that drops alone and camps the edge of the zone for the entire game. Instead of running away, utilise the aspects of positioning and movement that I mentioned above, learn to reposition yourself in fights rather than to run away from them. If you don't feel confident in going all out on an enemy squad you can simply position yourself to have an advantageous angle and simply poke away at the enemy for any damage you can put in, this is highly effective in the new meta to begin with due to the larger open map. All you do by running from squads is effectively reduce your potential DPS to 0, and your kill potential to 0. Your best bet if you are not an agressive player is to beat your enemy in the positioning game, and then try to break their shields as often as possible, this will end up in three ways. 1) You manage to break the shields often enough that they can't afford to stay in the same position and reposition / run, effectively eliminating the threat of that squad. 2) You force the enemy to push, in which case you have the advantageous angle to begin with and should win the fight due to marginally higher potential DPS. 3) You knock an enemy and open up an opportunity for a 3v2 push, in which case you should win 90% of those fights, especially in cases like this where you have full control of your position in relation to the enemies. I hope this guide was of any help to you, I will be replying to comments actively. Feel free to PM me about any Kovaak's inquiries. As a side note, make sure to keep on top of your sleeping schedule, training 10 hours a day means nothing if you are sleeping 2 hours a day, as your brain can't actively process the information it has stored during the day if your sleeping patterns are inconsistent and incomplete, and a lot of that procedural memory goes to waste. Have fun, and good luck in your games.
No ultrawide support for no "competitive advantage"
I'd like to take a minute to talk about this previously common (but now dated) response to ultrawide requests. Blizzard argued the same thing, and they eventually implemented a stretched screen option to compromise. I might disagree, but this was at the very least a fair compromise, and far better than having black bars. Not to mention that if we're being honest, this game essentially mimics CS, and CS has ultrawide support. More and more people are getting wider monitors, and not supporting them is rather hurtful for the game. At least allowing stretching makes sense, no? I'd rather not risk some sort of ban for using alternative programs, and we ALL know that people WILL do so. Not to mention it sucks paying $800 for a monitor to have a big game rarely go "haha no here are some black bars instead." This is less common now though, as more and more games have had ultrawide support now, as it becomes more popular. I understand the logic, I really do, but I firmly believe that if we're going to apply such logic, it must be equally distributed among areas that will provide a (noticeable) advantage to players. I should also remind everyone again, that you could still stretch the screen and remove the bars with no advantage, as has been done in Overwatch. But regardless, with their argument at hand of competitive advantage, let's look at areas where one could have a marginal advantage.
Higher refresh rate- As many of us know, a higher refresh rate is incredibly useful for flick shooters of this genre, being able to have that higher hz can make a night and day difference. You'll see many who go from 60hz to 144hz that say they can't go back to 60hz, understandably so, as it makes things much smoother, and in a game where you have to react to the slightest movements, seems rather useful to have, no? By this logic, we must cap the framerate maximum, as to not provide a noticeable advantage to users. This would be unfortunate for those with higher framerates, and impact them negatively, but we cannot have players with lower framerates at a disadvantage, can we?
Screen brightness- Sometimes it's hard to find targets, especially in dark areas or cramped locations. Changing your brightness can really help with that! I know some people who raised their brightness settings in games specifically so they can better find targets in the dark! So we must restrict the brightness settings. This may hurt users who have differing brightness settings, but we cannot have players gaining a competitive advantage by changing their brightness to see things easier.
LOWER resolutions- I remember back when I played CSS people would debate about lowering their resolution to make targets easier to hit. I remember it being a popular topic to argue, but considering there are those who are trying to lower their resolutions to make targets easier to hit, would that not be a competitive advantage? Seems like one to me. With that in mind, I guess we will need to restrict the resolutions to be whatever the monitor is set to, so that we don't have anyone getting that "competitive advantage."
Color settings built in for monitors- Some of you may know this, some of you may not, but many monitors allow you to change the color settings to make the colors stand out more (or less). So with that in mind, we must also ensure that players cannot utilize their monitor settings to change colors and provide a visual advantage via making characters or abilities stand out more.
HDR displays- We also will need to put a limit on HDR displays, as they create deeper levels of black and white contrast. As explained in my other examples, these visual cues are vital for competitive FPS games! We can't have anyone holding an advantage over others, so this must be stopped.
I could go on, genuinely, but I hope that my point has been made. For any game, there will be those that go out of their way to get every inch of an advantage over others. If you google "competitive advantage CSGO" for example, there are numerous videos on every nook and cranny towards their advantages. And you know what? I bet a large majority of those players still didn't get enough of an advantage for even a single higher rank. Because what really matters in these games is reaction time, muscle memory, map knowledge, gun knowledge, econ knowledge, ability to be calm under pressure, teamwork, item strategy, etc. Changing your monitor, your resolution, your colors, your mouse, your keyboard, etc, they aren't going to truly impact on a level compared to the player themselves. And for those that do get that percentile change to their "advantage," is it truly worth hindering all the other players? Let's just presume you'll say "yes" for some reason, then why not stretch the screen so I can at least fully utilize the monitor I paid for. And if you say yes, can you explain why the other areas I listed are not addressed? And as a (rather huge) side note: 21:9 is supported in League of Legends. And let's be real here, that's a pretty huge deal. The game is literally a top down game with the camera being INCREDIBLY integral for vision and what you see on your screen being (in my opinion) VASTLY more important. The game is pretty neat btw. Though I'll admit I can't enjoy the game using the black bars, and wont play it unless it gets some sort of UW support. I know I'm not the only one either. EDIT: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-gives-you-the-edge-in-battle-royale/?cjevent=c76b3cef7dbd11ea817900580a24060c Here is a link to statistics done by Nvidia based on GPU, Refresh rate and more, and their impact on K/D ratio. Note that they use BR games such as Pubg and Fortnite as reference here though. Regardless, as seen in the charts provided:
As your graphics card increased, as did your K/D ratio. To a rather large margin. You may note that those with an RTX 20xx series saw a +53% over it's 63x counterpart. We should note the game pubg isn't very optimized though, perhaps that's to play a part? So let's compare it with the 10xx series which can definitely run both games well enough. Notice there's still a 16% increase between the 10xx series and 20xx series. This means that, from the limited statistics we do have, changing your GPU can *potentially* increase your K/D.
A counter argument would be "well they could play more" or "yeah but those with better GPU's would definitely be likely bigger "gamers" than the lower GPU users. Well, Nvidia also tracked the GPU stats along with game time. The graph below the ratio and GPU tracker notes that "What’s interesting here is that having a better graphics card helped at all levels of play time, whether you only play a few hours a week, or are a Battle Royale veteran. In fact, in the chart we see that the gap between GeForce GTX 1050/Ti users and GeForce GTX 1080/Ti users expands as hours played per week increase, which means that players with more hours played appear to benefit even more from having a better GPU. This data aligned with what we observed in our lab research -- the higher the skill level, the more that players are attuned to the game and can benefit from differences in hardware. "
Now we go to the refresh rate. The next graph analyzed the different in K/D compared to refresh rates, being 60hz, 144hz and 240hz respectively. They compared them to a median player with the 10 and 20 series of GPU's. They also limited it to 1080p, since "higher resolutions can impact FPS"
The results from the above graph summarized by nvidia "The data showed that gamers that take full advantage of their graphics card by using a high refresh monitor (144 Hz or above) have significantly higher K/D ratios. And as we’ve seen before, that performance increases significantly as you work your way up to the GeForce RTX-20 Series GPUs.
One might think that this counters my point before, as it proves that these things do have a percentage based impact. I would argue that with this in mind, the idea of limiting our monitor is absolutely asinine. We allow better GPUs, We allow better refresh rates, and this data SHOWS that they can have a clear impact. But they get no change, no restriction, nothing. Instead, we get a restriction for ultrawide. Now let's look deeper into that as a whole. Ultrawide monitors are harder to run, this is a fact. The nvidia study even clarified they were only using the average 1080p monitor as larger resolutions or wide screens would impact FPS. With that in mind, consider that those with an ultrawide monitor would need to compensate for their new monitor with a good GPU to run it well, and the average refresh rate for an ultrawide user is 60hz, as the price skyrockets even further for ultrawide monitors with higher refresh rates. What I'm getting at, is that the average ultrawide user will have that beefy graphics card, but not be capable of utilizing it as much as the 1080p equivalent due to more power being required for the resolution provided, so our frames will be lower. With that in mind, our refresh rate will be lower typically. That means we are at two DISADVANTAGES by using ultrawide. If we are at two disadvantages, the only thing that would make an ultrawide screen better is if our "better vision" outweighed the average user on 1080p with 144hz refresh rate and better FPS. We don't have that data, but I doubt that's the case. So tell me why this is a competitive advantage again?
I am seeing many posts about cheating. Please read.
Yall go back in my posts. And read my other posts I have made. I tried to make a post saying the anticheat had to be very strong. I would honestly love to play COD on my PC I have a great PC but whats the point ya know? PC is full of cheaters. In my time of gaming I have met many ppl on PC who I thought was truly legit players that was just very skilled. But then only to come find out that they are straight cheating. Now I am gonna say it in this post this is what I bet Activision will do. Come the next update they will most likely bring a report button to report cheaters. But I have talked to ppl at Activision that truthfully I have much respect for that said the reporting cheating actually does nothing that it used to be where if a player got many reports from the same day from different people it would flag the players account and autoban them. But they had to remove that due to ppl who was abusing the feature. Sooo here is my prediction. Warzone on PC will have more cheaters next week playing the game than it does now. I am sorry to predict that but we all know it is true. The cheating does not get better it gets worse because more more players are wanting to break records/ get known/cheat their way. I would like to add the way it works on PC when it comes to cheats game devs/anticheat devs they ban in waves they dont stop the player instantly as they should because they want to ban in waves but this has been proven to not work look at PUBG look at CSGO and you will see that banning in waves does not work. There is only 1 PC game that truly bans cheaters instantly and that is League Of Legends if a person uses a script of any kind they get insta perma/GG to that cheater he gone. This is why I game on console now. The only thing you run into on console is modded controllers or teamers in solos thats about it. You never see no bigtime cheats like aimbot or walling/esp. You dont see that on Xbox or PS4 and the thing is if you do see that on PS4 or Xbox they get perma after like 2 hours of playing because a console system scans for any changes to the hardware and if anything is changed bam perma and you gotta buy a new console and make a new account. And this is what scared me back 6 months ago when I heard we was going to crossplay! Because no game devs no game company has ever completely stopped cheats when it comes to PC. Back in the day on PS2 Xbox 360 yes there was the ability for players to use the kind of cheats that are on PC now in 2020. But that literally got stopped once PS4 and Xbox One upped their security of their consoles. This is why we must give Xbox One the ability to turn crossplay off. Console players must have that option. Devs please make an option for cross platform meaning xbox vs PS4 this is the way to go. Keep the crossplay option for those that do want to play with their friends on PC. But bring out another option called Cross Platform meaning console vs console PS4 vs Xbox One. Again this is the way to go. Also the way crossplay was supposed to work is it goes by input. The only way a console player would get put vs mouse and keyboarder is if they were playing with a friend who was on PC or using a keyboard/mouse but there is 0 reason for any console player getting put vs mouse and keyboards if they are just using controllers with no PC playekeyboard mouse player in their party. It was also said that most the time the crossplay system would put xbox vs ps4 even if PC players are using a controller. The only ones that had to worry about getting matched vs PC pool of players using a mouse and keyboard is the ones on PC using a controlleor PS4 player who is using mouse and keyboard/have a person in their party from PC so crossplay itself has came out to be broken. It needs some serious looking at and it should be one main major concern. Edit: Plz ignore the downvotes on my post most of this reddit is PC players not PS4. Most players from the PC side does not like hearing the truth. The true PC players know the truth and respect the truth. Thank you for reading.
**1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
Gaming and light browsing. I only intend to play dota 2 on steam exclusively. As for resolution,FPS, and settings, the average would do just fine
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
500 pre-tax would be my maximum.
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
*within 2 weeks or so, maybe a month depending on how this goes
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: toweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
everything excluding the mouse
5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.
I’m starting off from scratch so I will not be reasing parts
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
I’m most likely only going to use it for 8/week seeing as I have a busy school and work schedule so most likely I will not be over clocking but pls consider that I will on some occasions? Would it be safer for me to get what’s required? If so, pls adjust to what’s best in the long run and the price range, preferably the price range.
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I’m not really going to use a lot of storage since I’ll most likely only be playing dota 2 on it and maybe csGo occasionally. for the rest, I’m really not knowledgeable as to what I’ll need but feel free to consider what’s nesccesary
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-towefull-tower sizes, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
I don’t have a specific case in my but I guess something that fits my price range. Sacrificing the price for the other components would be good for me.
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free.
No, Im post secondary and I’ll probably get it myself
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
I will be upgrading but a year or two would be ideal
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc)
Don’t really care that much wether it’s one or the other. I’ll trust your better judgement on what I’ll get I guess
12. Extra info or particulars:
It’s my first time building a pc and an entry level pc would suffice my gaming needs and casual web browsing. I really don’t know anything so trusting your advice and suggestion would be my best bet! I’ll greatly appreciate it and thank you in advance!
I have a co-worker of mine who plays a lot of battlefield, he's ranked 90th or something the world in some game mode or something I don't know the exact details. Today one thing led to another and he claimed that he could beat me on an aim map 1v1 with a controller having never touched the game, just from his experience with Battlefield (I'm MGII for reference). I've tried multiple times to try and explain the mechanics of the game and how it is vastly different from an FPS like Battlefield. I know this is post is going to get roasted on here but I'm hoping for one person to logically tell me some good points to explain to someone who thinks they are always right as to how the games are different and why this require some practice or knowledge and that they can't just pick up the game. TL;DR: Can a person who's exceptional at a console game like Battlefield, plug their controller into Counterstirke and be on par or better than a Master Guardian? Normally I wouldn't give at a shit but it's a $50 bet. Edit: Looks like I'll have $50 extra to waste on skins now, thanks Reddit! Edit 2: Half tempted to show this guy the roast. He's cocky so he'll still try and play me regardless. I'm really just trying to prove a point because he thinks he's right plus who doesn't want to make someone cry and steal their money for skins.
It's that time again, the Major cycle is in full swing once more, and 16 more teams hope to become challengers in one of the biggest tournaments in the calendar. As always, we have a mix of old faces and new blood, and this weekend's qualifier promises to be a wild one, with numerous teams in the mix that could shock and upset the veteran teams. There are very few sure locks here. The first round promises some interesting matchups already: Match 1: Vitality vs. Syman Vitality have turned out to be the number one contender to Team Liquid's dominance over the last few months. While the French side have never quite beaten the Americans, they sure have taken them close numerous times. Currently, Vitality have the main rival for the best player in the world in Zywoo, a surprisingly innovative and decent fragging IGL in Alex, all backed up by three experienced veterans of the game. On paper at least, Vitality is an exceptionally strong team, having a good mix of raw skill, experience and tactics. However, they have shown that against force buys and ecos, they falter time and time again, and they struggle if Zywoo isn't on top form. Syman, on the other hand, are a definite unknown quantity. Sitting at #39 on the HLTV rankings, they have never played a team even close to the calibre of Vitality. Infact, the CIS Minor here, and for Katowice have been their only LAN events to date. However, the unknown factor of this team, coupled with the CIS region's penchant for force buys and aggressive plays could play a role here; if Vitality haven't solved their weakness over the player break, Syman certainly have a way in. That said, I think you would have to be mental to pick Syman over Vitality here. The #1 contender should not be losing to a team attending their first ever international LAN. This should be a lock for Vitality, but there's a voice in the back of my head telling me that this isn't the sure win it should be. I wouldn't bet my house on Vitality to win, let's put it that way. Prediction: Vitality Upset Chance: Medium Match 2: NRG vs. Dreameaters After Liquid, NRG are the second best team in NA. I have high hopes for this team; after the removal of Daps from the lineup in exchange for Stan, NRG are looking pretty good for the Major. There's nobody in this roster that you can now point to as a weak link; Cerq is a solid AWPer, Ethan and Brehze have shown that they can pop off when they need to, Stan is a good fragging IGL and Tarik forms the reliable backbone, picking up as much slack as required. NRG have been in good form recently too, with a string of high finishes at most events they've attended in the last few months. Along than Vitality, I think NRG is the other team to leave the qualifiers 3-0. Dreameaters, like Syman, are another unknown coming into the tournament. Coming through the Play-In at the expense of MVP.PK, this team aren't quite as inexperienced on LAN as Syman is, but they haven't played any international tournaments either, instead having only attended CIS LANs. Unlike Vitality however, NRG are a lot more stable and less "streaky", and don't often make mistakes or misplays during anti-ecos, nor do they rely on one player to just destroy the opposing side. I'd be much more comfortable betting on NRG to win here than Vitality to win against Syman. Prediction: NRG Upset Chance: Low Match 3: G2 vs Tyloo Oh G2. Where do I even start with this team? The French team that defies expectations, in both directions. I find that it's extremely difficult to gauge where G2 is at; on one hand, they managed to take Dust 2 off of Liquid at IEM Chicago, and seriously gave them a run for their money on Overpass, but at the very same tournament on the very next day, they lose to a declining MIBR with zews standing in for Coldzera. This is a team that's impossible to predict, even during a tournament, they can look great one day and shocking the next. At least Tyloo is a little easier to analyse. The Chinese squad tends to dominate other teams from central Asia, but then drop the ball when it comes to international competition. They've always shown promise, and could be a good top 20 team if they can just push themselves over the final hurdle. This one is honestly a toss up, but I'm picking G2 to win here. That said, depending on what Tyloo we get, and even more importantly, what G2 we get, this could certainly go either way. Prediction: G2 Upset Chance: High Match 4: North vs INTZ I've always been upset watching North. On paper, they should be so much better than they actually are. They have a Major MVP in Kjaerbye, an excellent fragger in Valde, and if you asked anyone in 2014-2015 who the best Danish player was, Aizy would've certainly been in the conversation. However, they've just kinda... existed. Aizy has had some vintage flashes but he's mostly just been average to poor, Kjaerbye has been good, but he's not lighting up the scoreboards like he used to, and Gade and Jugi have been frankly pretty underwhelming. Valde has been the only one that's reliable. The fact that North had to come in through the Play-In, only having to play MVP.PK shows that there is something off about this team. I want this team to do well, I really do, and I'm excited to see what Valde does with it now that he's got control, but I'm yet to be convinced. Their opponents are another team that came in through the Play-In, and only barely. INTZ are lucky to be here, and I have a feeling this will be the last major qualifier they actually attend. With KNG likely moving to MIBR after the major, INTZ will lose their only solid player that's willing to kill people on and off the server. After that, where do they go from there? How will that affect their performance here? This is another toss up, but I think North takes this, unless INTZ shows up in a big way. Prediction: North Upset Chance: Medium Match 5: Furia vs Hellraisers This match has the potential to be just a straight up bloodbath brawl. Furia has been the stand-out, breakout team of the last few months, going from relative nobodies to proving that they can take it to international competition. Their aggressive playstyle has been fun to watch, and has brought them a lot of success, but teams have started to figure them out now, and they've began to slide a little since that shocking run at ECS Season 7. That said, there's still a lot of skill here, and over the player break, they might've developed a new, more tempered style. Hellraisers, on the other hand, have been... meh. ISSAA looked to be like an incredible find for the team at one point, but since then they've slid further and further down the rankings. Now that Oskar is back in the squad though, things get a whole lot more interesting. If ISSAA can find some form once again, and if Oskar can continue his lights out AWPing, this match has the potential to get wild very, very quickly. I think Furia wins this one, but this could go either way. Prediction: Furia Upset Chance: High Match 6: Mousesports vs Forze Okay, I admit it. I'm a Mousesports fan. Karrigan, ChrisJ and the kids have been great to watch. Ropz has found that form again that made him so exciting when Mousesports first picked him up, the Frozen gamble has paid off incredibly well, and Woxic is fast becoming a Top 5 AWPer in the world. Hell, even ChrisJ has become a great player again. Coupled with the brains of Karrigan, Mousesports are fast becoming a mainstay in the Top 10, and could even become a Top 5 team with enough time. In my opinion, Mousesports is one of the most exciting teams to watch right now. Their first opponent, Forze, is another relatively unknown quantity, but they are statistically the best CIS team here. There's some hype around them, and I agree they could be another QBF (which is worrying considering Mousesport's history with QBF...). Out of all of the "unknowns" at this qualifier, Forze is probably the most likely to make it, but I haven't seen enough of them on LAN against good international competition to bet on them just yet. This is another exciting game to watch, and I'm a little upset that this and the Furia-HR game is on at the same time. I'm picking Mouse for this one, but Forze has a chance here, especially considering Mouse's history with majors and CIS teams. Prediction: Mousesports Upset Chance: Medium Match 7: Avangar vs Complexity From two exciting games to one that looks like it's going to be a bit shit. I've got nothing against Complexity or Avangar, but I've just never found either team particularly exciting. Shazam has had his moments for sure and I'm excited to see how the 16 year old oBo turns out, but Rickeh and Sick have been anything but sick. Being a Brit myself, I've got to back up my man Dephh, and him and Shaz have been the only two consistently decent pieces on this team. In my opinion, oBo is the piece that could make this team a rising star, or a falling one. We'll wait and see. Avangar on the flip side has none of these unknown quantities. Jame is a good AWPer but a notorious baiter, Buster and Qikert have been fairly solid, and Adren has been sadly absent in recent months, even in FaZe. It's a shame because I really enjoyed watching him during Gambit's incredible run at the PGL Major. Out of all the matches here, this one is the most even. It's a shame that it's, on paper, the most boring. Honestly, I don't know who to predict to win this one, but I'm going to go for Complexity, purely because oBo could be interesting here. Prediction: Complexity Upset Chance: Very High Match 8: Cr4zy vs Greyhound I've always thought people were sleeping on Valiance, now Cr4zy. Despite possibly the worst re-branding in CSGO history, this is a team that's never failed to impress me in recent months. They knocked Fnatic out of the Qualifier, they put North into the Play-Ins, and they even managed to beat Vitality in, admittedly, a close Best of 1 Online match. Cr4zy is the very definition of an upset team. They have the potential to beat everyone here, even teams like Vitality and NRG on a good day. The Serbian core of Hunter, LETN1 and Nexa have been remarkably lights out in almost every match they've played, otto is a solid AWPer and Espiranto has always had the potential to be a great player. Meanwhile, Big Dick Stacy and the Boys are, in my opinion, overachievers. Winners of the rather lackluster Asian Minor, I don't think they've got much further to go. Sico and Erkast have been good players, but against teams outside of their region, Greyhound have not really won all that much, whereas Cr4zy have gotten some serious scalps on their resumés. Cr4zy take this, and unless someone like Sico or Erkast goes nuclear, I don't even think it's gonna be that close. Prediction: Cr4zy Upset Chance: Low And that's the first round covered. It's a long one, but I'm looking forwards to this qualifier. I hope you enjoyed the read, and I hope you enjoy the matches even more. I'll see you soon for another write up. -Jester :) EDIT: Well don't I look like a right bellend...
Fingertip/Claw Ambi mouse recommendation similar to FK1
Hey so i wanna switch to a new mouse. So i really like FK1 shape and im looking for something similar to this, i use fingertip/claw on FK1 and im looking for something shorter, could be more bulky. My thoughts on some: XM1 - Propably my top1 bet at the moment Hati - really good dimensions but sadly its not available in my local shop Model O - Top 2 bet at the moment since i really liked fk1 shape but i wanna try something shorter like XM1 GPW - sadly its too expensive for me atm S2 - I really like zowie but scroll wheel is terrible, i know many love this shape. MM710 - cool shape but sadly after using O- i dont wanna go that low since it was giving me hand cramps So my question is: Which other mice should i consider? Hmu with some other proposition I mainly play CSGO.
Epic´s solution to cater to casuals is in creative [Long post]
To this day, there´s no doubt epic´s number one priority are casuals, after reading (and having some common sense) Ex Blizzard dev take on the topic i completely undertand them yet i don´t think they are aproaching this in the right way. Mostly because we all now that being annihilated by the mech isn´t fun for anyone (low tier, medium tier, high tier, pro tier players). I honestly think the answer is in creative, having public lobbies and reward the time spent on Creative with stats, xp reward and BP stars. Most casuals feel like a waste of time spending 1 hour in creative so this would help to make them feel they are achieving something. To give a little perpective on why i think this would work: 1.- There´s a video of Bugha playing with a girl, he asked her if she watched the world cup and about Fortnite Comp scene she literally said she didn´t care, she played only to "grind" challenges for the BP, i think we all have friends that play fortnite only for this reason, they care more for the Renegade Raider, Dark Bomber or Ultima Knight rather than Patch Notes, Comp Scene etc.., to be fair, we all once were like this, i remember fearing getting pushed by Dark knights, Skull Troopers, Jhon Wicks, Omegas back in the day, and the highlight it was to eliminate them. So in few words casuals main reason to play fortnite are BP skins, v-bucks and keep track of the item shop. 2.- Yesterday i played some Paladins with my GF (I chose Paladins cause i knew Fortnite would be so alienating for her), she never played videogames before so she doesn´t even know how to use a mouse for gaming neither a keyboard, but Paladins have this bot training mode which you can play, have fun, get kills and still have rewards for your champ, BP and level, she actually felt like she was achieving something, she loved that and wanted to keep playing till she feels ready for normal lobbies, something you don´t have in Fortnite (I think she practising builds and pvp against me in creative would only make her unmotivated, TR is an option but for someone who can´t even aim properly is still a tough experience, Paladins has some easier champs that need little to none aim (Ash, seris)). With that being said, Creative should have more stuff added, give xp, bp stars and overall having stats so people won´t feel they are wasting their time, weekly public lobbies (i imagine being one for PVP, One edit course, One aim training, One King Of The Hill, One FFA with no building, One zone wars and one random map, could be mini BR, Prop Hunt etc..,) which will have their own challenges some examples would: Pvp lobby: - Do 500 damage with a shotgun weapon (2000xp) - Win three rounds (5BP stars) (imagine it being best of three or something like that) - Place 100 builds in one round (5000xp) (Quick mention that we all would love a ranked pvp, you could have your stats and having a SBMM, this always motivates people to improve) Edit/building Course: - Spend 1 hour on an edit/building course (10 BP stars) - Finish an edit/building course (2000xp) - Achieve bronze medal in any edit/building course (10 BP stars) (the ones that have this option) (This would be even more helpful because of how dumb the actual missions/prestiege are) Aim training map: - Spend 30 minutes on an aim training map (1000xp) - 1.- Hit 50 targets with an assault Rifle (2BP stars) 2.- Hit 50 targets with a smg (2BP stars) 3.- hit 50 targets with a shotgun wapon (2BP stars) - Hit a moving target with a sniper (5 BP stars) King Of The Hill: - Be the King of the hill (10BP stars) - Play 10 KOTH matches (5BP stars) - Do damage (0/500) (2000xp) (Would love to see these, i actually love these lbbies on MVC 3, would work with the spectating sistem) FFA/TDM no builds: - Eliminate 10 opponents (5Bp stars) - Do 500 damage (2000 xp) -Win a match (5BP stars) (Casuals heaven, no need for tilted town it could even go further and be an actual LTM with mini BR maps) Zone wars: - WIn a match (10BP stars) - Eliminate 3 opponents with a shotgun weapon (5BP stars) - Play 10 matches (5000xp) (More practice for the all time forgotten mid tier players but still would be nice to have it) So i think you might got the point by now, most of this would be either fun (FFA/TDM/PH/Deathruns) or good practice (Pvp/courses) for casuals and the fact that there would no longer be a "losing time" feeling for them, bet they would be grinding without even noticing. You would help medium tier aswell, and pros could have their ranked modes. There´s no need for mechs, swords and all that stuff when you have creative. Love the game but lately been having more fun playing other games (Apex, Paladins, TF2, CSGO) and my mental health is better, we as a comunity want to keep playing Fortnite, almost everybody here is trying to voice their opinion in order to save the game, feels harsh to get ignored, after a week not playing this, coming back was fun, but i understood Fortnite is not an 5/8 hours a day game for me anymore, no need to grind with the devs treating us how they are doing, no need to get better, no need and no fun (mechs, proximity grenades, traps doing150, heavy sniper) at least playing it once a week you don´t get that triggered, unmotivated.
How to improve: Personal accountability and the white belt mentality.
Even 2 years into this game being released there are still a lot of posts asking how to climb and why the individual is stuck in a given rating. Often, these posts are met with some straight-forward and proven methods to climbing. Practice more. Tilt less. Expand hero pool. Play the meta. Review your games. Watch pro game play. Play more. Positioning. Communicate. Practice, practice, practice. Then, in defense of themselves, the original poster will come back with something like, "What about my team..." Often, there will be people reciting rhetoric about how "It's different in Bronze" or "Maybe in High ratings it's like that, but down here." Before I break down why exactly this is wrong and how to remedy this mindset, a little personal anecdote for you: I played Quake II instagib at a high level. I played CS competitively for over 10 years. My team was one of the top 30 or so teams in America. We won LAN tournaments and scrimmed some of the best teams/players in America. I played CS:Source. Also a very good team. Was LEM in CSGO. I was top .5% in Age of Empires 3, a completely different genre of game. Then I was a Gladiator in WoW Arena with a rating in the 2400's, also top 1%, also a completely different genre than the others. I came to Overwatch during pre-release, and played in S1. I hit a rating of 67, which would be approximately low-masters. Then, I stopped playing with friends as much in Season 2, and due to some bad habits and a run of bad games, I was stuck in the low 3000's. I believe my rating even dipped down into mid Platinum at around 2700 at a few points. I was frustrated and I felt like I was better than everyone I was playing with. I knew I was a good FPS player, so it must be my teams fault, right? After all, I had been good in so many other games and even in Season 1 I had been rated higher, so why was it so difficult to win games? Why was I surrounded by so many idiots? It took me another season or 2 to really humble myself and start taking personal responsibility. Once I started treating my teammates like teammates, rather than an obstacle keeping me from reaching my goal, I was much happier to be playing the game and people were much happier to have me on their team. As a result, my SR shot up over 500 points. Within a few weeks of S4, I was at 3860 SR with high win percentages on all of my main heroes. I stopped trying to force it. I stopped auto-locking DPS and started filling. I stopped flaming my team and started communicating with them. I encouraged them and complimented them. I thanked them for help and I sought to help them. This leads me to the two key points in my topic: "Personal accountability" - You can only control yourself and your own actions. You cannot control your team. Your team does not care about your rating or playing the game you want to play or how you want to play it. They care about their own self-interests. Your team may be full of horrible players, but the players on the enemy team are equally horrible... If you are a Diamond player stuck in a Silver game, or a Top 500 player stuck in a Diamond game, you don't get anywhere by berating your teammates. You turn the game into a 1v11 instead of a 6v6. You turn your team into your enemy and you can't win like that. There are bad players in all skill brackets and there are toxic players. There are one trick ponies and there are auto-locking DPS. There are brain dead tanks and suicidal healers. There are horrible team comps and bad decision makers. You only have control over yourself. You can't change those people or those circumstances. You have to go with the flow and accept the teams you get and play with the hand you are dealt and no matter what your team did you have to analyze your own play and be critical. Ask yourself, "What could I have done better?", "What mistakes did I make?" Review your own play after every game. Every time you died, every time you lost a team fight, every time you failed to finish a kill.. What could you have done better? Every time your team tilts, how could you have prevented that or helped that situation? Sometimes you can't, and in those cases the best bet is to mute that person and pretend it's 5v6 and keep working with your team that is still receptive. It's often just 1 person being toxic, and the rest of the team will continue to cooperate once the toxic player is muted. Treat every player on either team as a group of your friends. You never know when the person on the other team is going to end up on your team. Say hi to them. Compliment them. "Hey man, you played a fantastic Genji against us last round." This will encourage them. In order to gain rating, you have to stop blaming others and take 100% personal accountability. Focus 100% on what you can do. Blame is toxic. It prevents you from learning and thus prevents you from climbing. This leads me to my second point: The white belt mentality. I am going to quote a martial arts page on this one:
I always assume my accomplishments mean nothing to the new people I meet and work with. It’s silly to assume they care; especially if you are seeking them out. Part of the white belt mentality is to serve the one you hope will serve you with their knowledge. You don't do this by filling their time with what’s in your head. Be the most open sponge you can be. Filter the things they teach you internally not externally. Expect their way to contradict what you know. The goal is not to have your current knowledge validated, it’s to break down old perceptions and build new wisdom. Do as you’re told. Do exactly as you’re told without variation or adjustment. Do it their way until you’re wise enough and experienced enough to do it your way. Be happy and ready to fail. Expect to take it on the chin and do this with a passionate mentality. Joyfully leap toward the sword, the opportunity to learn and embrace what happens in order to grow. Your teacher's opinion is all that matters. Until your teacher is of the opinion that you have an opinion, you don't have an opinion. Empty your cup! It may sound unorthodox to put yourself completely out of the way like this but it is the way to learn and advance quickly. After a time you will have enough of a grasp in what your teacher has shown you to test it. "Does it work" is the only valuable criteria. Nothing else matters at the most fundamental level. If it works and you can prove this to yourself, you have found a very valuable tool for improving your life. Your teacher teaches for his or her own reasons. They were teaching before you were their student. This means you have nothing to do with what they know and what they are teaching. You are not a part of their equation until you can see what they have to offer without yourself in the mix. They have already seen the value in what they are teaching. They have seen this before you. By earning the same vision your teacher already has, you and your teacher's mutual respect for what you are learning will help you both grow. First, find a good teacher. Then get out of the way. The above are a few keys for rapid advancement in whatever you study or seek to achieve. We are lucky to have people who will show us the way. We owe it to ourselves to be the best possible student we can be. -Caleb Spears, Instructor
Whether you're coming here to ask questions about how to improve, or you're just reading the threads in question, or you're in a Quickplay game, or DM game, or in a comp game at any level, you should be asking yourself: "What can I learn from this?" Do not assume yourself to be above learning. Do not delude yourself into thinking you "Know more" or "Know better" than the next guy. Don't think that just because you're "X" rating and someone else is "Y" rating that you can't learn something from them. "The White Belt Mentality" means that you approach life with a thirst for knowledge and growth and learning. NOT an assumption that you already "know". In OW and in all online games, there's (virtually) no physical limitations beyond your hardware and your ability to manipulate a mouse and keyboard (or controller as the case may be.) The game is 90% mental, and therefor improvement is 90% mental. You can have the best aim in the world but if you're a brain-dead moron who can't learn from his/her mistakes, you will never get out of Platinum. There are plenty of players in GM/Top500 with mediocre aim, or who play off-meta heroes, or who play tank, healer, or whatever. Furthermore, everyone from the lowliest low bottom of the barrel bronze player to the top players in the world are "only human". That is to say, what separates you from the top 1% players in the world is just time, practice, dedication, and mindset. So, whatever rating you're stuck in or whatever problem you're having with the game, it comes back to you and your mindset. You're capable of hitting the next level, it's just a matter of time and practice and having the right mentality. Now go forth and improve, and stop complaining about your "shitter team". ;)
Hey, im looking forward to replacing my FK1 with Model O- when its gonna be available but the main reason im creating this post is to gain some information from people that have similar hand size, grip & preferences as me. Hand size: My hand size is 18.5x10cm and following the 3-finger rule from RJN my fingers are under 5.5cm (something about 5.39-5.46cm) which would be in range of Model O- width. And my middle finger to the back knuckle measurments are 11cm Grip style: i use fingertip grip on FK1 but bottom side of my thumb near the palm is touching the mouse (not always). The thing is that i've had a few of mices before (FK1/FK2/EC1/EC2/G303/G305/G403/DA Chroma & others that i cant remember rn.) and i want to focus mainly about FK1 & FK2 as they are going to be closest to the Model O- Im using FK1 as my main right now but i find it too long, i dont have any hand cramps with it and i can aim really well with this one. I've been using fk2 in the past and i remember i had better flickshots with it but the problem was my ring finger near the nail was hurting a lot after playing csgo for few hours(no hand cramps either). The problem is i can use both FK1&FK2 and i think they doesnt affect my aim to the point where i choose which one im better with. I adjust to the mouse really quick and i think my aim would be better with smaller mouse like the Model O- as its gonna be pure fingertip mouse for me and low weight would be a really good addition to it but i dont know if its gonna be in range of a safe bet. I've been using G305 in the past and its really small but the reason why i switched was that something in my aim was feeling off, 100% sure it wasnt grip style or the mouse itself being small but i felt it had to do be something about the sensor&latency idk, thats just my opinion. Feel free to comment and im really curious about people that have similar hand sizes & switched from FK1 to the Model O and how they feel about it. I know the best way to deal with all of things that i wrote here is to get Model O- but im really curious if you can advice me choosing based on informations that i wrote. TL;DR The big question is: Would you think going for the Model O- with my hand size (18.5x10cm) is going to be a pretty safe bet? My hand adjust to the mouse really quick and i dont mind using small mices (had g305 before& no troubles grip-wise) but im really wondering if Model O- is gonna turn out too small for me.
I got scammed out of 1,700 dollars worth of Rust Skins. I'm devastated and I'm not sure what to do.
I was recently scammed for 1,700 dollars worth of Rust Skins due to a data breach of my information. I have been actively collecting skins mostly all unique since the game started releasing them in around 2015. Unfortunately, I was added and messaged by someone who I had added for a short time and they went and asked me this question red or black? Which was interesting thing to hear from a scammer, they said they wanted to ask cause they were betting on some site. So I said red, black esc and he kept saying he was winning. Then he said hey man here's this site let me send you some of my credits since you've helped me out. It was a phishing site. So I logged into the site which began the single worst code raid of 1,700 dollar I have ever experienced. Nothing happened at that moment it was just the beginning, he had logged my information, then he said that he could also toss me a CSGO Knife since the site wasn't working but, he had friends who only did it to poor people. So he said send it to someone you trust, friend or family. Well I said this is to much work trading 500 items and it's probably a scam so I should just walk away, I had my mouse on the remove button of this persons profile. Unfortunately, I had told my younger brother beforehand twelve years old that I was about to get him a knife. Which convinced me to stay and continue this "deal" as the red flags poured in. I couldn't send it to my brothers account for some reason, which turned out to him denying the trades through my account. So after making two trade attempts to my brother which were declined by him. I had bought all those skins and didn't know how to really trade, I said enough is enough. Still my brother wanted to trade and once again convinced me to trade it to him, I said I'm going to do somethings just transfer the items to your account. So he figures it out and apparently i just needed to confirm the trade through my phone, I went on my phone which doesn't have the interface for that stuff and since the scammer had access to my account he was declining the trades and adding a trade that was his own from a fake account which he made look like my brothers because he saw the previous trade attempts. I accepted it and the collection of 1,700$ Rust skins was gone. What continued to follow was my reaction of disgust and shock for what happened as my brother busted into tears crying telling me he was so sorry. I have learned two things to have caution whenever your dealing with any money especially 1,700 dollars regardless of what form it is and your ultimately responsible for whatever happens. I've read the Policy's steam has set up and it seems very unlikely they will return any items no matter what the circumstances are. I'm not sure if there is any other way to reverse the trade at this point it's been over twenty four hours. I really just need advice on what I can do to successfully regain my items and if that's not option how to cope with this lost and move on. I played rust for less then five minutes today and turned it off because the only permanent progression I've always had in this game, the skins... they were gone and the chances are in the favor of that. I role-played with them or showed them off as my trophy's to my friends for the past three years and now they were stolen from me. Any Advice is greatly appreciated, Otherwise I hope people can become more aware from what happened to me. Over the three years I've been easily able to dismiss scammers but, it only takes one time to lose it all. Unforgettably it can happen to anyone, even you. So If I'm not able to regain the skins hopefully someone else can learn from the mistake I've made and save their money and memories.
I spent new years eve creating a somewhat narcissistic, yet comprehensive list of my life experiences
- I once had a tennis ball roll to me on the school court yard. I panicked and completely missed the ball with my foot, from that day I've had an irrational fear of tennis balls. - There was this one time, that I attempted to subliminally message my uncle into giving up smoking. - I once visited my friends house for the first time in secondary school, this friend of mine was telling me about his theory, that if two intelligent people play tic tac toe, it will always be a draw.
