Edit: Sorry for the terribly crowded formatting. Figured out that 2 spaces = 1 after posting. But editing didn't really help much because 4 spaces doesn't = 2.
Edit #2: Also, I understand that this was probably a lot longer than it needed to be and I never explain what it is that you're even doing until you've suffered through it all and probably leaving people wondering how Android could have anything to do with anything unless I stumbled here on my way to the Fallout Shelter subforum. So I'll briefly go over what makes this worth posting/ reading. There's a known method of gaining quick XP by buying Shipments of Copper until you have 5-20 stacks then duping them via workshop until you have 30k-60k copper and it only takes a few minutes to do this. Then you use all that copper by spamming scrap/ build with a statue at a max sized settlement for the XP with two buttons. It apparently only takes ~30 min to get from 1-50 using this method, but if you want all the perks you'd need to be doing this for about 12 hours. You can read all about it below step by step or save your eyes/ time and just watch one of the dozen short videos explaining it perfectly, like this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Nh8zaAsCtY You need an Android because it has PS4 Remote Play. It's an exclusive app for only for Xperia devices, but of course an APK was made available for any Android user to download. If you don't know, the app allows you to connect to the PS4 and use the phone as a monitor and then you could play with a controller or use the phone as something like a gameboy emulator or an actual handheld and use controls on screen + view the display. "It just works." The reason we even want it for the leveling is because I realized that once I moved controls from analog to a phone I could automate the process. Didn't take me long to find a decent app to do that with either. If you've ever heard of or used an auto-clicker, it's basically the same thing. You can record screen presses then play them back.. infinitely. So with the Remote Play app open I recorded the screen touches of me spamming X and Square for a few seconds then played it back looped. Then you can walk away and your phone will keep building and scrapping statues until you run out of copper or you stop it.
/edit
I'm sure anyone who's looked into infinite XP on this game has already seen the basic method, but Idiot Savant proced IRL and my rare surge of brilliance lead me to invent a Rank 4 science mod making the whole process hands free. (Well not the whole process, but the part that matters. The long, repetitive, mind-numbing part.)
WAYYYYYY TL;Definitely Won't Ever Read We're using the Statue method, so if you already know about it, or have been using it, just skip down looking for some dashed lines "-----" and I'll throw them down there with the info relevant to you just below that. Edit: Turns out it's not a dashed line. It's like a normal line, feint, and brown, except I bolded it added a bunch of "."'s and an "X" under it to make it more eye catching. Requirements: Make sure you have Picket Fences #3 Essential Upgrades! It's a magazine that allows you to build the item we're using with this method. Read this page for location info if you don't already have it:
http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Picket_Fences For you fast leveling virgins, here we go. I'll try and make this as clear as possible for you guys.
[Step 1: Get you hands on Shipment(s) of Copper] Just throw on your handy CHR clothes, maybe indulge in a little game day buzz via Grape Mentats, and head on over to KLEO @ Good Neighbor and/or Arturo @ Diamond City Market to pick up the goods.
(Shipment vendor info courtesy of Reddit user sgtpepper901 who's made a nice and easy to read list of all, or nearly all, shipment vendors over here:
https://www.reddit.com/fo4/comments/3sx1ot/im_making_a_list_of_shipments_of_resources_that/)
I'll explain why in the relevant step, but you will need at least 2 to make it work.
Sidenotes:
1) Have a water purifier farm? If you didn't know, you can "trade" with vendors instead of using caps. For example, the game says I only have 14k caps, but I have 2731 Purified Waters saved and that's worth 43,696 "caps" I can barter with. I just buy what I need and before closing the deal I trade water = to the sum of what I need + what the vendor's buying capacity is at. Basically, to me, water is money and caps are a collectable that I might shell out 10 or so to little girls at Bunker Hill for a shitty tour and and get my charity hard on for the day.
2) We're duping the materials that the Shipments produce so if there's something other than copper that you would like to never worry about again then grab shipments for those too. Think screws, aluminum, oil, and leather. Pick up as many shipments as you'd like while getting the copper ones, but don't have more than 5 unique shipments in your inventory when proceeding further with this method. And by 5 I mean the Shipment of Copper + 4 optional ones you might have chosen, but stack count doesn't matter.
Now that you've gotten 1 or 2 of these copper shipments you have a choice to make.
1) Find a place to sleep for a day and do it again. (Probably the fastest)
2) Caps don't grow on trees and you're going to going to dupe your shipment with Dogmeat. (Could honestly be just as fast)
3) I don't have an extra 5 min to spend right now and would rather spend an extra hour in Step 2. (Proceed to the bolded Step 2 and not the Dogmeat Step 2)
I suggest getting around 15-20 Shipments of Copper. The more you have the faster the next step will be.
The Dogmeat Dupe Method:
I'm probably wasting my time with this part, but for the uninitiated, this is how it works. Basically you drop something and tell Dogmeat to pick it up and you try to take it at the same time he does. If you succeed you will have a version of the item in your inventory and Dogmeat will drop another copy down in front of you. This does not dupe stacks. If you drop an item with a stack of 10 then you will take a stack of 10 and Dogmeat will bring you 1 of that item, if that makes sense. (Shipment of Copper - 25 is not a stack, but Shipment of Copper - 25 (20) is.)
Tip!: Crouch before doing this and it will make it a lot easier. Helps with both picking up the item you're copying by extending the your pickup range and also for seeing when Dogmeat is coming. And save before doing this, I've dropped an item before and watched it fall through the world into the abyss.
Step 1: Drop the the item you intended to duplicate on the ground.
Step 2: Choose a difficulty.
[Normal] - Command Dogmeat to move away ~10 yards from you and move slightly away from the item until it says "Get Shipment of Copper". If it says "Take" then you just pick it up and it goes in your inv. Tell Dogmeat to get it and he will begin to walk towards it. People say to pick it up when he starts putting his head down, but I found that is often too late. When he comes to a stop he will place his right foot forward again, this is when you should take the item and hopefully he drops a copy.
[Hard] - Command Dogmeat to move far away. He will sprint 50 yards away and back faster than he walks 5 yards. When he sprints back to pick it up he will stop for less than a second before grabbing the item, as soon as he stops pick it up. Could make duping a lot faster, but you probably won't get it every time.
[Survival] - With Dogmeat already at your side drop the shipment move away far enough to command him to get it and then move back to it immediately in order to take it. I did it once... maybe. If you think you have fast reaction timing then you could go for it, but I wouldn't recommend it.
If it "isn't working" you just have to get the timing right. It 100% works though.
[Step 2: Turning your shipments into a LOT of resources.] Go to a settlement's workbench and remove everything from it. Preferably, you should fast travel to a place where there is an empty or nearly empty work, build a container next to it and store any junk you have in you inventory + any junk in the workbench, except for the maximum of 5 shipment types you have to do this method with.
[!] You 100% need to save before doing this next part. Hard save, not quick. I quick saved and a reload didn't return what I lost after fucking this up. Hard saves always work.
Open the workbench and press "Store all junk" (Triangle) and IMMEDIATELY press Square to "Take all"
The workbench should close automatically and you will have the materials your shipments were worth + still have all your shipments. So why can't you do it will more than 5 shipment types? Well, what shipments do (normally) is convert themselves into materials once inside the workbench. Since we are reusing them without giving them time to convert you keep your Shipment of Copper + Copper. If you have more than 10 separate items in your workbench, again stacks don't matter, then you will be asked "Are you sure you want to take all." and within that brief second before clicking "yes", you watch all your shipments convert you have to reload a save. If you still don't get it, 5 shipments will become 10 items in your workbench. The 5 shipments plus the 5 items they were supposed to turn into, but we're doing it so fast that they won't have time to convert and we will easily get into the 10's of thousands in materials by repeating this. If you have over 10 items you will get a pop up which adds a delay, which means shipments do what they are supposed to and you have to reload a save state.
Now you have to be fast with this part! Triangle and then Square immediately after or your shipments convert. If you only have 1 stack of a Shipment it will sometimes convert instantly and you won't have time to get it back, that's why I said you need at LEAST 2. But having more is better anyways and makes it 1000x faster. I had 20 when I did this and it dwindled down to 17 by the time I was done. Your call if you want to get back 1 or 2 lost by reloading or keep going. Keep saving though! It's never 100% safe no matter how fast you are. But don't the threatened into thinking it's hard by the length of this, I'm just trying to save you time in the long run. In reality this could take a minute or less to complete with 20 shipments of copper and a goal of 60k. Took me 10 min with reload times, but I get cocky fast and think I keep the Triangle, Square, Square flow going (You'll know what I mean) while putting my attention somewhere else.
Sometimes you will be very fast and still lose a few shipments in the process. Keep checking your junk tab occasionally to make sure all or most of your shipments are still available. And save after every 10k-20k copper you produce (depending on how great of a gambler you are), because eventually you will miss the timing and loose all your shipments to the workbench.
I noticed after reaching mid 60k coppers I'd loose all the copper I had. It would go from like 65k to 4k every time. I don't know what caused this and it might not happen for you (Edit: I learned in the comments that it will happen to you. "An unsigned (cannot be negative) integer in many programming languages has a maximum value of 65535 because that's a 16 bit binary number that's all ones. You're rolling the count past its max and it starts over at zero." - Astramancer), but what I did to counter it was drop all my copper in the container I built earlier and continue duping. Yes, you can combine stacks to equal an integer over the limit, but when duping you can't reach higher than 65,535. Depending on how much XP you want 60k might be enough. That's probably around 50 levels if you are on a new game and 10-20 levels if you're 50+. But don't take that as serious math, I don't have any real data for any of you numberfiles out there. Get as much as you can before getting bored of looking are reload screens and then see how far it gets you before deciding. Usually I'd say just get 30k and come back later for more, but since we're doing this on autopilot, why not get what you want in one trip.
[Step 3: Building your XP] Go to the smallest settlement you have available because you are going to need to max out the size, or alternatively just go somewhere that is already almost maxed out. People in YouTube comments keep asking what's the best way to hit max size for this method and the response is always "Build a wall and spam signs on it". But that's dumb, we are going to be building statues anyways for XP so just hit max size with them first. Use the Baseball statue (10 copper) because it's smaller and gives more XP per Copper spent than the bigger statutes requiring 20 copper. It should take less than 2 min to scrap them all when you're done. I had alot built and the clean up task was a lot faster than it appeared, like ~100 statues in a straight line as far as the eye can see (as far as my PS4 could render to be more exact) took like 30 seconds to put them up and 1 min to take them down.
The reason we need a maxed out settlement first is because it reduced the steps of rebuilding to two buttons (X and Square). Otherwise you won't be able to scrap while still hovering over a statue. You'd have to press Circle first to cancel out of the statue menu, then Square to scrap, then X to confirm, then D-pad up or X to get back to the Statue menu, and then X again to rebuild. Once your maxed out you just spam X and Square to build and scrap over and over and over again and watch your XP rise. You can press them both at the same time, it doesn't matter in a max settlement because there's no way to do anything other than build or scrap without moving away or pressing Circle.
When you hit max size scrap the last one and reposition it in an area that will be easy to spam scrap and rebuild without needing to move your character. Should be easy, but if it keeps moving further away every time you scrap then try placing it on an incline. Once you get it test it out a few times. Just spam X and Square to build and scrap for a second. If it's staying still and you're able to keep spam then you're golden.
This is where the "normal" guide ends. Usually you would be left here. Nothing to do but sit for hours and hours spamming buttons until your controler broke your you died of boredom. And I'm placing my bets on the controler outliving you. Now if you were just trying to get from 1-50 or just up yourself a few levels you could do just that. Just spam away for 15-20 min and get the levels you wanted. But if you're going for perks. Like... all the perks. Or even just the ones that would benefit you, like ALMOST ALL the perks. Then look no further, because I discovered the way to cheat even though you're already cheating. Well look a little further, because honestly everything before this point is old news, the reason I took the time to write it all out was purely out of the excitement I had to set you up with everything you need to know before sharing the pretty incredible thing I put to together earlier tonight.
............................................ X <-- That's what you're looking for if you didn't read.
This is the part where we put all that annoying setup to work for us. 100% autopilot. You could sleep, go the beach, hang out with your kids, make kids, or do what I did and just stare at the game for hours thinking about how amazing this method is. While using my hands to do... basically anything other than spamming buttons.
Quick reminder... take the Shipment of Copper out of your inv and put it in a box or something, obv not in the workbench. I made the mistake of leaving it in and when I ran out of copper from statue building it auto scrapped them all and ended up reloading a save. Thankfully I made one just 5 min prior.
Here's where it gets fun!
If you have Xperia Z-series from Z2 or newer you have it easy. Just navigate your phone to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.playstation.remoteplay&hl=en or lookup PS4 Remote Play on the Play Store and download it.
If you don't have an Xperia, which you don't, then you have it EQUALLY as easy. The Remote Play app is exclusive to the Xperia series and searching it in the store will result it either it not showing up or saying your device is not compatible. So... unfortunately for us that means basically nothing because we just download it somewhere else.
Here's a direct DL link: (Just click from your phone to auto-download the APK) http://wololo.net/downloads/index.php/download/8364
And here's the full page to check for updates or just to read about it. http://wololo.net/ps4-remote-play-pc-android-more-clients/
I admit it's a sketchy site, or at least I've never heard of it. But the XDA link is broken and it's the only version I could find compatible with the latest PS4 updates (3.0). It's not even the newest version of the app, it's an old one that was patched to work. Just click the first link on your phone, I did it and everything seems just dandy to me. It's probably not a virus.
The APK didn't open for me like it should by tapping the download from my notification bar or from the default app that shows downloaded content, but I just navigated to it under the My Files app and it installed right away.
You basically just open it up and click Next at the top and it will search for your PS4, a lot of people get an error at this point, even on the official version, but it's fine. Just do it again and click skip when it searches for your PS4 and you will get the option and directions on how to manually connect it via a little number in your PS menu under the Remote Play section. Takes like 30 seconds.
Next you will want to download this free app called HiroMacro (last steps I promise). https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prohiro.macro&hl=en It looks horrific and an annoying fullscreen ad pops up when you first open it, but it ended up being very easy to use and its only feature is exactly what we need for this method.
Go ahead and open it, check it out if you want, but all you need to do it press that fat START button. Can't miss it. It's going to say it's running, but it isn't doing anything yet.
Now make sure you're good to go on Fallout 4 as far as being in a spot where you can spam scrap and build without needing to move you character at all. Go to the Remote Play app again and connect. Once you're in game press volume down on your phone (that's the default keybind/hot key to make the second app we downloaded feature pop up.) And a pop up menu is what we NEED from an app like this! Because actually leaving the Remote Play app disconnects your phone from the PS4. Meaning, we're really lucky because, any other app no matter how much better or cleaner it looks probably wouldn't work if it required doing anything in the app itself after enabling it.
You will see a big red "Record" button. Just hit record and immediately spam X and Square on your phone repeatedly. As fast as you can for about 10 seconds and then try and hit volume down again while you're still spamming. If there is a gap of time between spamming X/ Square and stopping the recording then you will have a small delay when repeating what you recorded, it's not a big deal, but we just want to level as fast as we can. And a recorded 1 second delay every 10 seconds would mean slightly slower XP gains in the long run. Kind of intuitive, you probably would have attempted it even if I didn't say anything. By default the Hiro app has a 2 second start delay, so first 2 seconds aren't even recorded, you'll just want to end it fast. Now just hit volume down AGAIN to bring up the the same menu, this time showing the recording you made. Open it and you will get some options. You can set the amount of times it runs as high as you want, but I found out that setting it lower than 1 makes it infinite, which is a lot quicker than trying to raise it to the 2000+ you need to turn all that copper into pure XP. Set Interval to 0 sec (Whatever that means. The the quicker the better, right?) and Speed to 2.0x.
Hit play and you're done. Time belongs to you again. You can do anything! Go anywhere!! And when you get back you'll plan out the perfect build with all your sweet new perk points.
Have fun with it! I don't know what surprises me more, the fact I thought of all that or that it even works, but it definitely took 100x longer to write this post than to actually figure out how to do it. Best I can hope for is that at least one of you finds this helpful. I'll do my best to answer any questions.
