Interesting articles and Reddit thread on the original Bitcoin wizard magic internet money ad - similarities to Nano's Batcoif ad

Some in the community have been appalled by the recent Nano ad(s). I encourage them to check out the following articles and reddit thread on how effective the Bitcoin wizard ad was. I'm not saying the circumstances are all the same, but it's food for thought.

Hi! We're MtSocks and as a tribute to r/bitcoin, we've created the Bitcoin Wizard (Magic Internet Money) sock!

Hi! We're MtSocks and as a tribute to bitcoin, we've created the Bitcoin Wizard (Magic Internet Money) sock!
Hi bitcoin, we're MtSocks and we're excited to announce the launch of our new site MtSocks.com (which coincides with Bitcoin's 11th Birthday... well-timed or what?)
MtSocks (a play on the name MtGox) is a new, fun way to teach people about Bitcoin!
Bitcoin Education - Every pair of socks comes with an information card that will teach you something amazing about the design’s history within the Bitcoin industry.
Finite supply - One of the qualities that makes Bitcoin so desirable is its finite supply and we thought it would be cool to bring this detail into MtSocks.
Buy With Bitcoin - We believe in Bitcoin as the future of payments, so we’re asking you to help build this future by paying with Bitcoin only.
Proof of Sock - With education in mind, we decided to show off one of Bitcoin’s often overlooked, but incredible features: signing a message with your private key to prove you own a Bitcoin address. We’ve included a unique signature with our socks to prove that each pair you buy has been sold exclusively by MtSocks.
Supporting the Bitcoin Core Foundation - We donate 5% of all sock profits to the Bitcoin Core development team.
We'll be releasing a new sock every month, so stay tuned for our upcoming announcements! For now, we're kicking off the launch (pun intended) with 3 exclusive designs:
Bitcoin Wizard
Bitcoin Roller Coaster Guy
Bitcoin Not Blockchain
Enjoy! :)

For new years 2014, I ran a Bitcoin Wizard art contest for 1 BTC (~$700) and got a variety of amazing art (see inside). I want to do something similar, this time for a public domain bitcoin moon/wizard calendar. 1 first-place winner + 11 second-place winners = 12 images for a 12-month calendar.

(As always, tipping for feedback!)
First of all, these are the images the first contest produced. As you can see, there's a pretty dazzling variety of style, they're all fun to look at, and many of them are very high quality.
I spent about $900 all told, most of which went to 1st place and some of which went to 2nd place and scattered tips. In terms of what I paid for and what I got, essentially, I paid a commission of about $37 for each peice of art, all of which are now public domain. If you assume I'm living somewhat above the poverty line, it was totally worth it.
I think the first contest was successful in large part due to my creative use of tipping within the thread (read through the comments here to see what I mean). I tipped bits for commenters who brought exposure and I tipped bits for any entry and any progress on any entry. Everyone left the contest satisfied, everyone had fun, and we ended up with a pretty cool, fun, public-domain gift to the Bitcoin community.
The idea is to run a contest similar to that one, using what I learned the first time to do a better job. This time, artists will be able to see art from the previous contest and imagine their own in the context of a calendar--this will provide a much clearer picture of what I'm looking for, and what a "good entry" might look like. The last contest didn't have these benefits, but still turned out really well--it's exciting to think of the potential this one might have.
I'd like to ask for your help this time. If you assume I'm living on less than first-world middle-class salary, this kind of contest isn't cheap to run ;)
If there's sufficient interest, I'll supply the first ~$750 chunk (3 btc these days) of the first-place prize. This will go to my favorite entry. As with the last contest, this will necessarily be a subjective judgement, but the community's opinion will weigh in quite a bit. I'll also tip commenters throughout the contest, as I did with the last one, to generate buzz and to reward any participation or assistance with the contest in general.
I'd also like to award prizes to 11 more entries. This way, we'll have a 1st place winner, but everyone who gets an image in the set of 12 gets a commission. This is where I'd like the community's help. To get a substantial prize to 11 more people is going to take another chunk of change. If you want to help, consider doing either one of these things:
As the contest is running, I'll run a crowdfunding campaign aimed at funding and printing the first round of calendars. This should be pretty cheap. There are several options for actually funding/printing the calendar after the contest, but crowdfunding seems to make the most sense to me.
The calendar should be created and purchasable for new year 2016, so I wanted to throw this out there now so we have time to do this. If there's enough interest, I'll probably launch the contest sometime late July or early August. I'm thinking it should last somewhere between 2-6 weeks, which gives us a good 3-4 months after the contest is concluded to produce and ship the calendars.
What do you guys think? Is this something you'd be into? Let me know! Tipping for good feedback, as always :D
