Release

As of 5:15 EST, the update has released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
  • 3.4GB on PS4
  • 3.2GB on Xbox One
  • 2.9GB on Steam
  • 2.6GB on Social Club.
On the note of releases... Some countries will not be able to access certain content from this update due to gambling laws. Thankfully though, players from these countries will still be allowed to download the update in general.

Money for Diamond Casino

For ways to make money to afford the new DLC content, along with methods to make an empty lobby to do CEO/MC work, check the Mega Guide.
Tips
  • You only need $50,000 to register as a VIP! If you have at least that much, you can register as a VIP for 4 hours and get access to VIP missions (which can be done in an invite only session), giving you a lucrative way to save up.
  • If you own both a crate warehouse and vehicle warehouse, you could use them together to make more money overtime than you could by using either exclusively. Use your sourcing/exports between crate pickups and sales, and you'll be getting the best of both worlds, gaining from the postive money-making aspects of both.

Gambling

As this is a Casino-centric update, there's plenty of ways to gamble away your hard-grinded money.
The gambling in this game centers around a new form of currency, called Chips. These chips are pretty much like real-world gambling chips, with a one-to-one dollar value, except you keep your chips when you leave the casino. Chips are an actual currency in GTA Online, as they can be used to purchase exclusive items from a shop inside the casino, along with being used to bet with when playing the Gambling Games, listed below
  • Slot Machines: There's plenty of options to choose from, but they all perform the same way. Spend some chips, and let the RNG decide whether or not you earn anything from it.
  • Blackjack: Casino style blackjack with up to four simultaneous players, all of which play against the dealer. Anyone who beats the dealer individually wins, anyone who the dealer beats individually loses, and if the dealer gets Blackjack (an Ace and 10/face-card), everyone immediately loses. Assuming your initial hand isn't a Blackjack, you have the option of doubling-down, which doubles your initial bet with the caveat of only being able to hit once.
  • Poker: Three-card poker. You make your bets, check your hand, and similar to Blackjack, each player wins if their hand is better than the dealer's, and the dealer beats whoever has a worse hand than him. While there is no option to double-down, how much you win does depend on how good of a hand you have. The better your hand, the more you win. Also, while you can fold your hand, you lose your initial bet anyway.
  • Horse Racing: Pretty much standard horse racing bettering. You choose a horse, you put your money down, and if you bet correctly, you get double the amount you bet in return. Otherwise, you just lose the amount you bet.
To gain more chips, there is a counter inside the casino where you can buy them, however you are limited in how many you can buy per day (real-world 24 hours). As standard, you can buy a maximum of 20,000 chips per day, but if you own a penthouse of any tier, you can buy up to 50,000 chips per day. Chips can also be traded in for money, but there does not appear to be a limit on this. No matter how many chips you win from gambling, it appears that you can trade them all in at once for the equivalent dollar value.
Lastly, there is the Wheel. It's a roulette wheel that you can only spin once per day, which costs $500 per spin. There are twenty reward slots, and since some rewards are in multiple slots, they have greater chances of being selected. The biggest note about this wheel however is that there is one slot in which you can win a free car! What makes this so significant is that since the car takes a 1/20 slot on the wheel, that means you still have a 5% chance of winning a free high-value vehicle! Compared to most online games, that's pretty much the most generous RNG you can get.

FAQ

Are there any differences between the penthouses
For once, yes! Well, technically... they're the same basic property layout, but each option gives you different addon options.
  • The Cash Pad: The basic Penthouse with no property addons available . You cannot purchase a garage, extra bedroom, lounge, etc. with the Cash Pad. You can, however, purchase penthouse customizations (colour and wall patterns).
  • The Party Penthouse: Gives you certain of the addon options: the main Penthouse, the Extra Bedroom, the Lounge Area, the Spa, and the Bar and Party Hub. You are locked to these options, no more, no less.
  • The High Roller: Gives you all of the property addons as standard, and the most expensive penthouse customization options... this means that you cannot choose your own colour and wall patterns with this version.
  • The "Design Your Own": ...What should be the standard option. It gives you the basic penthouse and allows you to choose which addons and customizations you want, with an extra cost for each one, of course. Just get this one. You can also renovate this option later, allowing you to purchase more addons and change your customizations later.
What do the Penthouse Addons do?
  • Lounge Area: Allows you to purchase the other Penthouse Addons (except for the Extra Bedroom and Garage, which are the only items addons that can be purchased without a Lounge).
  • Media Room: You know the cinemas around Los Santos? The ones that play a few 5 minute animated films on repeat? That, but in a Penthouse.
  • Spa: Gives you access to a hot tub and a Personal Stylist. The Stylist's services are the same as the ones spread around Los Santos (hair, contacts, and make up), but they're all free.
  • Bar and Party Hub: Allows you to consume drinks that instantly intoxicate your character, along with access to special arcade games that aren't available anywhere else in the game.
  • Private Dealer: Allows you to play gambling games in your penthouse.
  • Office: Adds a standard computer, a Gun Locker, and a money vault (don't get excited, it's just aesthetic).
  • Extra Bedroom: Bedrooms in owned properties in GTA Online are used as spawn points, so why can you pay to have an extra one? Because you can now allow a friend of yours to claim it! The Extra Bedroom allows a friend of yours to use your penthouse as a spawn apparently, though the exact implementation of this is not completely clear.
  • Garage: Access to the Penthouse's garage bay.
How do I get the armored car?
  • To recieve the Enus Paragon R (Armoured), you have to complete the Diamond Casino's mission series, which you must own a penthouse to access. Once of the missions are complete, you'll be given the vehicle for free! But remember, it's uninsured and you only get it once, so immediately go into passive mode and take it to the nearest Los Santos Customs to insure it, or else you could lose the vehicle permanently.

Passive Mode

Good news, passive mode has been fixed!
  • Passive Mode can now no longer be active when using a weaponized vehicle
  • A Passive Mode cooldown of 2 minutes is now in place for players who have just killed another player
  • Players now must wait 5 minutes before they can activate Passive Mode again after disabling it
  • Players now must wait 30 seconds before they can disable Passive Mode after activating it
These changes make is so that grievers can no longer abuse passive mode, or at least no where near as easily. If you start to get the upper-hand on a griefer and destroy whatever death-machine they're using to troll you, or if you confront them in a death-machine of your own, they can't abuse Passive Mode to try to get the upper-hand on you!

Solo Session

Check the Mega Guide for ways to push yourself into a public Online session with no one else in it. Keep in mind that some missions and abilities are unavailable if there's no one else with you though!

Bugs and Glitches

  • Apparently on PS4 and Xbox One, you must have full size of GTA V available to download the update, so if you have less than ~60GB free, you may have trouble downloading the update. This does not mean that the entire game is re-downloaded, it just means that the update may not download if you don't have that much space available.

My top 10 trashiest games of all time,

  1. Terminator angel of darkness. Clunky controls, horrible voice acting, bad missions, hard as hell.. this game was just so so so awful I bet if this came out today though all the nerds would be pumped. I mean it’s no surprise most of you don’t have any taste in gaming anyway.
  2. Guitar hero. Wow a timing game.. so great I mean so boring.. this game provides nothing yet idiots with no taste in gaming want to call this game one of the best of all time.
  3. Cat in the hat ps1. It doesn’t get more boring then this cat in the hat game, thank god no one talks about it and it’s rare, but all you do is go around and collect stuff literally that’s it you just collect items.
  4. James Bond agent under fire. I played James Bond from Russia with love it was a damn good game for the ps2. but when I played agent under fire it sucked so badly who wants to play as James Bond in first person? The missions sucked the voice acting sucked ass... just an awful game.
  5. terminator 3 rise of the machines the game.. nowhere to go nothing to do, just fighting robots all day.. that’s boring.. and the graphics suck so bad.
  6. Madden games 2009 present- Madden games since 2009 have been complete garbage ever since they stopped making them for the ps2. Madden 10 was complete garbage so was madden 11 and all other maddens after that.
  7. Tiger woods pga games. Golf is so boring man I swear.. and these games just take the cake I mean seriously golf requires no skill all you do is hit a ball and see how far it will go.

Damn Scottish company’s like rockstar think they are the king when they aren’t jack shit. That’s why they are stuck in Brexit,

Comprehensive Future Role Ideas (and expansions of existing roles)

Introduction
This is going to be a very long post detailing rough ideas for 4 future roles that I would like to see in future expansions and how they could possibly be implemented into the game. The very nature of this post means that I can't realistically do a tl;dr at the bottom. But tl;dr: ranger, rancher, lawman, outlaw.
Ranger
Logical progression...ish, for the trader role, based on the fact that your character would naturally get pretty good at hunting for materials for Cripps. It would revolve around nature, wildlife and hunting. Would require a certain level in Trader; after which a hunter would meet you at your camp and offer to induct you into the Ranger's Guild.
The "Big Thing" for the Role
Role benefits could be hunting companions. At level 5 you can take your camp dog hunting with you! The dog can hunt and kill moderate-small animals on your command. At higher levels it could even fetch and bring them to you. Another upgrade would be using your dog to kill moderate and small animals which does not degrade their carcass at all.
At level 15 you unlock a hunting falcon, which could hunt up to medium animals on your command. Large and Massive animals you'd have to hunt yourself, though if anybody in the hunting/falconry industry can confirm that a hunting dog or falcon could take down a deebuck, I'd be happy for it to be implemented.
Maybe the dog/falcon could have a bonding system similar to horses? So level 2 bonding, the dog can fetch what they kill and bring it to you, level 3 bonding, the carcass is preserved so a 3 star rabbit remains a 3 star rabbit. Level 4 bonding, unlocks the ability to use the companion in combat, for example, the dog will take down an enemy and rip their throat open, the falcon could do the same with its talons. This would be usable from stealth only, as an opener to combat. Throughout combat the dog/falcon could harass enemies but not kill them. I'm sort of thinking along the lines of Dogmeat from Fallout or the eagle from Assassin's Creed Origins here.
Other Role Benefits
Other benefits could be the ability to create a small campfire in the wilderness similar to story mode, being able to cook meat whenever and wherever would be a nice plus.
As far as clothing/outfits go, hoods are something lacking from the game so hooded coats or standalone hoods would be nice.
In terms of the mounts unlocked by the role, they would be specialised in that they wouldn't be particularly fast or have the greatest health/stamina, but they would have a remarkably large courage stat which increases with bonding. To the point where at level 4 bonding you're rarely bucked off at all.
Other little benefits could translate over from story mode, such as 2x herbs when you pick them, or obtain 2x the meat/animal parts. Maybe a nice bow skin for hunters to use.
And then perhaps the last unlock could be something akin to the legendary buck trinket from story mode, whereby you have a greater understanding of animal anatomy and can preserve the pelt of an animal regardless. So a 3 star animal would always be a 3 star pelt irrespective of what weapon you use to kill it (but within reason, no dynamite/explosives).
Money-Making with the Role
In terms of money making, I imagine the role would borrow from the bounty hunter system and story mode whereupon you could visit hunting boards/lodges and obtain a list of required pelts to be delivered. And there could be legendary animals, similar to legendary bounties; if I was to implement the role I'd have the hunting role focus primarily on pelts, as the trading role focuses primarily on full carcasses.
Rancher
This would sort of be the final form of the trader and moonshiner roles and draw heavy inspiration from the RDR2 epilogue. Would require a level investment in trader and moonshiner roles. Talk to Cripps and Maggie about establishing a more permanent presence and investing the profits of your escapades so far. Go to the bank, get a loan, buy some land and build a house.
The "Big Thing" for the Role
Owning a bloody house! And being able to customise it to a greater degree than the moonshine shack. Interactables throughout the house and ranch for the roleplayers. Shaving station, bed, wardrobe, gun locker, etc. The role would naturally feed into the trader role and as you level up the Ranch and purchase expansions, your Ranch would automatically generate goods for trader deliveries. Rockstar would have to appropriately balance the level of goods generated and you could always directly add to the goods by hunting in the normal fashion.
Perhaps there would be little chores throughout the ranch similar to RDR2 epilogue which would work sort of like the re-supply missions from the trader role and give a bonus to the goods being generated for one game day for example.
The Ranch would also have several expansions, including a stables (where it would physically show you all of your horses that you have purchased, maybe you could see them grazing, too), together with an actual legitimate tavern which Maggie runs for you. Basically the moonshine shack but on steroids. Maybe R* could give us some new minigames. Were darts and pool a thing in 1899? I'm not sure. But at the very least you could implement the minigames from story mode. Think a three floor tavern. Top floor for poker, blackjack, five finger fillet and dominos. Middle floor is the normal drinking area with a band. Bottom floor an underground fighting pit where you can engage in melee combat with NPCs and players (see further details of this idea in Lawman/Deputy role).
Other Role Benefits
One thing I have in mind for this role is once you unlock/purchase/build a stables, you would unlock "horse training". People have been requesting a way to not worry about horse stats and simply be able to pick the coats they liked without worrying about the stats. Well, I have two proposals.
The first would simply be that once you unlock a horse and coat, you can apply that horse and coat. So if you're a level 20 bounty hunter, when purchasing a horse you could purchase the level 20 horses, but select from any of the bounty hunter coats. This would be the simplest and probably easiest way of implementing my idea.
However, I would really like the idea of implementing an actual horse training mechanic whereby you could physically, in game, train your horse, and thus increase its stats. This wouldn't invalidate more expensive horses because they would start off with better base stats.
So for example, with the purchase of the stables you would obtain the stables, a paddock for your horses to graze, together with another paddock for training. You could select what type of training you wanted to do from a menu, set up targets for mounted shooting (which would increase your horses courage stat), a jumping course (which would increase your horses health and stamina) and a cross-country riding course/race (which would increase your horses speed and acceleration).
I feel like this would be a really good way to truly feel invested into your horse, without having to worry too much about stats as you could simply pick the horse and coat you wanted, and invest the time to train your horse to have the stats of the level 4 equivalents. Maybe each breed would have a theoretical max, or this would be left open.
Money Making with the Role
As an extension of the trader and moonshiner roles the money making would be the same, basically. The ranch would automatically generate a certain number of goods for trade deliveries and the tavern once unlocked would do the same for moonshine. The tavern would be a legitimate business but run a moonshine business on the side.
Lawman/Deputy
The logical progression of the Bounty Hunter role, would require level 20 Bounty Hunter, after which you receive an invitation from the Saint Denis Chief of Police. Now, RDR2 takes place across several states. Realistically I'm sure you would only be deputised in one state but I don't think that would benefit the role at all and would artificially limit the role. So there'd be some handwaving. Maybe the Chief has noted how effective you have been as a bounty hunter and being able to cross state lines so all the sherrif's have agreed to trial out almost something akin to a federal service, giving you jurisdiction across the RDR2 map. Or hell, have the role be for the Pinkertons.
The "Big Thing" for the Role
This is a role which I feel would benefit from a comprehensive story with multiple story missions to complete in a similar vein to the Moonshiner business. I'm not asking for LA Noire meets RDR2 but...
One of my ideas for the story missions would be going undercover to investigate underground fighting rings. This story arc in itself would benefit from the great hand-to-hand combat seen in the game thus far, and perhaps would introduce the fighting clubs for non-Lawmen as well, allowing you to unlock new fighting animations/counter attacks.
Alongside the story missions would be the option to go "on duty" at your local sheriff's office/police department. This would essentially be the free-roam random crime type situation from the True Crime Street's of LA/New York City games. RDR2 already has plenty of random and ambient events which could be adapted and one would hope Rockstar would develop new ones for this role as well.
Other Role Benefits
New weapons/kit including a truncheon/baton and shackles. I don't believe that handcuffs as we know them today would have been around in 1899 but rudimentary shackles could be available sort of as an 'upgrade' to hog-tieing people with the lasso, making it very difficult, if not impossible, to escape from. Role outfits could be police/lawman inspired, perhaps with specific accessories for a badge to be worn on the hip or lapel. A new emote to flash said badge.
Money-Making with the Role
I'd expect the pay to be on par with the bounty hunter role. The story missions would give a flat cash reward on completion, with various difficulty levels in a similar vein to the land of opportunity/moonshiner missions. Going "on duty" for True Crime: RDR2 style would give you a daily wage for each day spent on duty. I'll leave it to R* to appropriately balance it. Once the fighting pits are unlocked, the ability to bet on yourself or on other players to win.
Outlaw
The role that should have been in RDR2 from the beginning. Now, of course, with the implementation of the Lawman/Deputy role this could cause some conflict as we don't want to prevent players from experiencing both roles. So the Outlaw role would have a variety of masks and bandanas etc and the game would necessitate you wearing identity-concealing outfits to engage in Outlaw activities; again, borrowing quite heavily from the story mode.
The "Big Thing" for this Role
Heists. Bank/train robberies. Holding up NPCs. All the good stuff that should have been in the game from the very bloody beginning. I won't go too much into detail on the mechanics thereof because they're pretty self explanatory and prevalent in the story mode.
This is also where the underground fighting pits (briefly mentioned in Rancher and Lawman role) would come into play. I would really love to see an expansion of the already brilliant hand-to-hand combat system that we have in Red Dead already, with rank ups in this role awarding you new fighting animations and moves. Perhaps it could even be something similar to the emote system or in San Andreas where you had distinct "sets" of animations. Maybe the Outlaw animations would differ from the vanilla animations which again would differ from the Lawman animations.
Rumour has it that Rockstar are working on an open world medieval game so this would be the perfect testing ground for future hand-to-hand mechanics. There could even be Legendary Fighters giving better rewards. Get rewards for fighting, place bets on yourself to increase payouts.
Summary
I hope this post has given an idea of the sort of roles and expansions we could see in the future of Red Dead Online. Feel free to suggest your own or tweaks to the above. And if anybody from Rockstar is reading this and can match my current benefit package in my current job, make me your ideas man.

Daily Hiatus Journal: Day 18/19/20

April 27th, 2018 Approx. 163 days of Tomstar remaining canon hiatus remaining
Hello everyone! Welcome to the long awaited next installment of the Hiatus Journal! Before anyone says it, yes, I know, I failed you, I gave in to temptation and trod the alcohol laden path to inebriated black outs and sleep deprivation. However, on the plus side, that means due to my lack of posts, I have plenty to choose from when it comes to mentions! So look on the bright side... If you don't I'll release u/jeepdave and he can show what the dark side really looks like (I'll give you a clue, it's a close up of a moss covered gravestone with the letters MRC_ DZ still able to be discerned, an epitaph that reads "died as he lived, an asshole", a wide angle cut to a procession of skeleton horse drawn carriages on the path nearby and wedding bells ringing from the picturesque church in the distance. Yes, it actually physically pained me to write that, thank god it's never going to happen in a million years just make believe)
One day I may sit down with a bottle of something strong and set myself the goal of writing a drunken analysis of something, that ought to be fun. Although, fair warning to you my friends, it'll be laden with expletives, and so Starco heavy it'll likely be measurable on the Richter scale, possibly even cause the San Andreas fault line to shift... Could be 2012 style catastrophic. I do however, have an analysis or theory planned for the weekend, as of this moment I can't decide which one to sit down and write. Would people prefer a theory or an analysis? Let's make it subs choice for once, instead of me just bombarding you with whatever I choose!
I'd like to say that I'm genuinely honored at the overall response to not having my journals for a few days, I expected a couple of people to say something, but having a few posts dedicated to it entirely was something of a surprise. My date laughed and said I'm like the "dad of the sub"... Not particularly fond of that description! I have enough problems without having to worry about you lot as well. I was delighted to see this post by u/vaultjumper, as a fellow 40k fan it's always a pleasure to have someone recognise my handles origins, fun fact, I chose Alpharius as my handle for just about everything many years ago, I was drawn to the idea that the Alpha Legion utilised traits seen as "not becoming of an honorable warrior" but relied strongly on out-thinking the opponent, i.e. stealth, cunning, a "the end justifies the means" mind set, and if chess were the game, the ability to plan so far in advance they'd won before you even moved your first piece. As you can imagine for someone like myself who takes great pride in their cognitive functions, it was a pretty good analogue.
So as some of you may or may not be aware, myself, Jeep, u/theonewhosaysmeep and u/kotsthepro are currently on some sort of overly cryptic adventure. Frankly after this post I'm betting heavily on Meep being the one behind all this, considering his already cipher like nature and the fact he talks in bloody riddles half the time it would suit him down to the ground. So far our little group has been working hard to decipher the codes we've been given but it appears to be absolute nonsense, I decoded one that was a youtube video about fucking bees. Bees of all things! Still, anything to pass the hiatus eh. Saying that Meep has been suspiciously absent as of late too... I'm on to you you human equivalent of the enigma machine!
Now, as far as discussion and theory posts go... even with nigh on 3 days of journal to catch up on there is still a distinct lack of these posts, which I guess considering the lack of new content isn't a huge surprise really. When I look for a discussion post for example, the premise doesn't have to be amazing or insightful, it just has to actually generate discussion, anything below 20 comments in my opinion is woefully lacking from that point of view! I did however find this one which was not only a discussion I hadn't seen before, but did also generate the appropriate levels of debate to be included, so thanks to u/darthkaleighnaz for that one.
u/dayoldbaguette just posted this Starco discussion, if you fancy reminiscing about when exactly you started shipping the one true ship our two lovable dorks, and you can put up with the inevitable cheeky comments from people who's names don't need mentioning here, then do take part! I've thrown my moment in, as have several other high profile Starco fans.
u/redlkas is trying out a social experiment, seems to have garnered a fair bit of attention so it's worth checking out, it's not hard to see the direction it was going to take considering the subject matter, but hey, throw down and see if we can get him what he's after.
We have a sub wide competition taking place from u/nerdman01 which can be found here, it's split into 3 categories, and with meta being one of them... well who wants to bet how many submissions will have me and Jeep in them? Guesses on a postcard! But do take a look see, especially if you've got a cracking shitpost idea, could well net you some Reddit privileges for the next year.
Okay I'll get on to honorable mentions before I lose quality trying to find sub par posts to fill this out.
u/malthus graced us with 2 pieces over the last few days! Poetically damning here and this epic battle piece. As always, I love the style, it's so different to everything else, really stands out. Another fan piece (because I missed several days!) that stood out was this malevolent looking piece, because after all, we all miss monster arm don't we. Not.
Shitpost wise.. well, I've got a right job choosing here haven't I, 90% shitpost 100% of the time at the moment! Still.. I loved this offering by u/servbot52, as a 40k fan it spoke to me deep down you see, I could almost see someone screaming "ships for the ship god". Then we have controversy by u/dinodude66, when I say controversy what I mean is 5 people hissed at it, the rest of us all nodded our heads sagely.
Quote of the day! (or several days... but shush) in the spirit of the wait for Starco for this post! And once again, thanks for the support!

Additions I Want to see to Online

-Ability to fly passenger jets like in campaign -Ability to purchase huge cargo jet from missions -more WW2 planes ( maybe even WW1 planes too) -Purchasable Railgun and Stun Gun from singleplayer -Animals and Hunting missions from single player (seriously why no animals still? Afraid of PETA backlash ? Can the servers not handle any more AI?) Red Dead multiplayer has animals! -Ability to operate trains (speed up, slow down, hijack, derail) -Add 1890s/early 1900s clothing after RDR2 launch like new cowboy hat types, Spurs, holsters . Etc -RDR2's fishing mechanics. (Seriously there's already NPC's fishing ) -Reintroduction of Stock Market (If possible) -Pet stores and adoption/grooming -some military submarines like Uboats -more weapons like throwbacks from San Andreas such as the chainsaw , Katana, Dildo, shovel, spray paint A third RDR2-related treasure hunt to supplement the pistol and hatchet.. maybe a lever action rifle or shotgun - new treasure hunts that involve using Submarines or scuba gear to search the oceans for sunken vehicles to unlock new cars , planes etc.. -Functioning Snowplows and sleds during LS snowfall - New sports like baseball, soccer Etc. -add the baseball from single player that Franklin can throw -new missions featuring Franklin , Trevor, and Michael (since that story DLC mysteriously got swept away after 2014) - Open the freaking casino already !! Blackjack , Hold Em, Gambling like in red dead multiplayer. Slot machines , roulette wheels etc. Have horse races you can watch and bet on in that unused horse track in the back. (BTW it has a "Opening Soon " sign on the front of the casino. Has that always been there?) -bring back more single player characters for missions like Devon Weston, Steve Haines etc. Or from GTA 4 like Packie and Yusuf -BRING BACK THE TOW TRUCK! It's been almost 5 years since you took it away! -a month ago I would've said put blimps in like I've said for years now but they fixed that.. -more weapons like the ones that were cut from the final game like the Scar H, Steyr Aug, hunting rifle, tear gas launcher, glock, m9, colt m1911 etc.
That s about all I can think of right now . Got any more ideas? Add to the list !!

GTA San Andreas Easy Money (and how ridiculously easy the game becomes if you use this technique.)

Anyone here still play GTA San Andreas? I still do to this day. I must have played the story at least a dozen times combined from my PS2 and my PC. I'm in the middle of beating it again on my PS2 and I finally decided to cave in and use the betting shop in Los Santos to try and earn some fast money once I got around $1,000.
To those of you who don't know, if you save the game beforehand, you can keep driving to the betting shop and bet on the horse with lowest odds (usually 1/11 or 1/12.) until you win, and believe me, you eventually will. Every time you lose just reload and drive back. It's very simple.
Using this technique I amassed over $2,000,000 before Wrong Side of the Tracks. Went back after Reuniting the Families and got about $6,000,000. Using my grand total of over 8 Mil I bought every safe house in Los Santos and literally armed myself to the teeth and began systematically seizing every piece of gang territory I could find. Since then I have paid no visits to the hospital, I've only been busted once that I can remember, and I just finished 555-WE-TIP.
Oh, and during the Catalina Arc, I made an additional 12M due to the betting shop in Montgomery.
This game becomes pretty easy when money is no longer a concern...

Email sent to rockstars as ideas and suggestion back in 2014!

Hi guys and girls,
Below you can see what i had sent to rockstar as ideas and suggestions. I am making it public now since i am very proud and 99% sure that i gabe them a lot of help for the content they released after this email:
GTA V IDEAS PM
To: .; Wed 10/8/2014, 12:14 AM Dear Rockstar,
Firstly your game is awesome i love it and gives me plenty of fun. I am a bit disappointed on heist and bugs which i am sure your are doing your best to overcome. I will still support you anyways cause you have been doing a very nice job so far. Here are some of my ideas i can understand from programing perspective that some will not even be feasible. But i know you have the best that can do everything so here are my ideas:
Armor for cars upgradeable to 150% which will give semi bulletproof windows and 200 % bulletproof windows and explosion resistant (2 grenades/ rpgs and so on). Unlockable at lvl 200 and 400….. Based on these modifications if its possible to add 300% armor which will replace glass windows to steel….
Ability to modify large trucks!! Decide on a large hangar where trucks custom will be located in the game map where you will be able to modify Pegasus vehicles and larger vehicles. Such as heavy duty machinery. Take a trailer truck and put turbo for example. Or take the garbage truck or any other truck and put 200 % armor and also remove the back cabin with a custom truck bedding where you will be able to have passengers shooting from reinforced holes like fib armored trucks for example... Even making them really fast. Imagine as a formula one trailer truck I have seen such in YouTube. Or even add to your current purchased tank the ability of second passenger for the machine gun. If this is feasible there numerous ideas that can be done such that add more armor to your tank. Make it last more shots from a fighter jet. Make them costly in order for someone to work hard for them and being unlockable in higher lvls for example lvl 400 or 500.
Variety of utility vehicles. Add second or even third monster truck/ fighter jet/ tank/ attack heli which will have different pros and cons. One not that is fasteslower but better suspension/ fire rate/ damage/ and so on… if you get my point.
You ought to reward higher lvl players with crazy unlockable in both vehicles and hardware.
Hovercraft. Go kart. Single and double player jet packs: P
Ability to own 2 apartments and one extra garage not apartment in total of 2 apartments and 3 garages. (Total 30 cars or even more. I personally have two garages full. And I really need 2 more. I had to sell like 10 cars in total until I decide which to keep …….. So frustrating. The worst thing is that I really miss them….. REALLY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!! 40 cars total would be awesome. 2 apartments and 2 garages.
Ban god mode exploits and people that cannot be seen on map using exploits not lester ability!!!!
Remember the San Andreas arena with nascar, sanchez and monster truck races? Bring it back to the arena in Los Santos!!!!
Make SUVs and off road cars ability to increase the height of the suspension for hill climbing!!!! Sport suspension increases handling. Higher suspension increases hill climb and decreases the handling!!!
Open casinos and national lottery tickets. We need the money….. J I personally would love to buys a bunch of lottery tickets. Based on the money sum gathered give big prizes please.
Utilize the horse racing club where someone could even bet on horse races and also make players being able to own and race their own horse money subtracted for owing and caring the horse, and money gained from wining horse races!
If it’s possible add the gym ability as in san andeas!!!
More side missions in gta o like lester kill the target or simeon vehicle or armored trucks
Hope you can fulfill my dreams :)
Thanks in advance

Which minigames would you like to see in any sequel?

The minigames for me were a huge part of what made RDR so atmospheric. I spent many happy hours playing Liar's Dice in in Thieves' Landing ("I heard another train got robbed on Butter Bridge last night"), and used to enjoy parting rich Blackwater citizens from their dollars in the hotel. I'd love to see some kind of horse-racing incorporated into the sequel (maybe even betting on it, San Andreas style). I never did get the hang of five-finger fillet though...

ANTM - Where Are They Now? (Cycle 3)

Hi guys! Here are the girls from Cycle 3. If you guys know any of the missing girls’ social media handles, please let me know so I can add it to this post!

Name: Magdalena Rivas Placed: 14th Age: 36/37 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 0 Bottom 2: 0 (eliminated outside of panel) Twitter Followers: N/A Instagram Followers: 412 (@magdarivas) Magdalena Rivas on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 Joining America’s Next Top Model Cycle 3 did not necessarily put Rivas’ modeling career into high gear as she was the first one eliminated from the 14 finalists. She did get a little taste of what professional models go through everyday when they were flown from New York to Jamaica to do their very first photo shoot. She was eliminated on the spot, the morning after the photo shoot.
POST-TOP MODEL Magdalena has kept a low profile since the show. She’s done some modeling work, but is not currently being represented by an agency. Magdalena has done print work for Vibe Magazine, ELLEGirl, and The Lab Uptown. She currently (according to her facebook) works for Children’s Health, a Nonprofit Organization based in Dallas, Texas. She has 2 beautiful girls, Nyla and Fiona.
Name: Leah Darrow Placed: 13th Age: 36/37 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 0 Bottom 2: 1 Twitter Followers: 23.7k (@leahdarrow) Instagram Followers: 27.3k (@leah.darrow) Leah Darrow on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 Although it’s clear that Leah possesses the physical attributes of a model, she was the second to be cut on America’s Next Top Model on Cycle 3. Her removal from the show was brought upon by Leah’s plain and unimpressive photo shoot. The photographer remarked that Leah did not make eye contact with the camera and Tyra Banks commented that she did not position herself well in the pictures. After being eliminated, she walked away from the room without bidding the others farewell, but vowed to keep on pursuing her dream to become a professional model.
POST-TOP MODEL After appearing on the show, Leah appeared in FHM Magazine. Since then, she is now an advocate for the Roman Catholic Church and Catholic modeling, doing print work for publications for The St. Louis Review, The Catholic Weekly, Lighthouse Catholic Media, YFE.org, as well as the cover and a spread in Family Foundation Magazine. Some of Leah’s speeches cover topics such as modesty, chastity, the pro-life message (including the death penalty), “catholic” fashion, conversion from sin, and living your life for Christ.
Since the show, Leah has a regular podcast entitled Do Something Beautiful (now on it’s fourth season) where she regularly discusses a variety of topics. She has also come out with her own book, The Other Side of Beauty, based on the lies we are told about our worth being tied to our appearance and instead invites us to look again at the real meaning of beauty. She has also appeared in TV series such as The Journey Home and Beloved. In 2012, she married her boyfriend Ricky, who serves in the US Military. Leah has 3 beautiful children: Agnes (born 2013), Ambrose (born 2015), and Violet (born 2016). In May 2017, Leah graduated with Magna cum Laude honors with her Masters in Theology from the Augustine Institute.
Name: Julie Titus Placed: 12th Age: 31/32 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 0 Bottom 2: 1 Twitter Followers: 214 (@JustifiedJulie) Instagram Followers: 632 (@ninewestjewel) Julie Titus on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 Julie seemed to have a promising start, but during the third photo shoot in America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3, her performance fell short of being excellent to the judges. Furthermore, at the panel, Julie admitted that the reason why she joined the show was to gain more exposure as a clothes designer rather than a model. The revelation ultimately led to her elimination.
POST-TOP MODEL Julie is another one of those girls has kept a low profile since the show. She doesn’t have a big online foot print, except for her twitter and her instagram. She has done print work for Republic of Brown, and has appeared the Ray Billion Look Book. Sometime after the show, she worked as a North American sales manager for the Thursday Island clothing line. She has also mentored models for The Model Experience. In July 2015 (I think), she married her boyfriend, Bill Clifford, in California.
Name: Kristi Grommet Placed: 11th Age: 31/32 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 0 Bottom 2: 1 Twitter Followers: N/A Instagram Followers: N/A Kristi Grommet on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 Kristi was memorable for coming into initial auditions wearing her senior prom dress, which was made from an American Flag. The fourth week in America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3 had the models posing for Lee Jeans ads with hair extensions braided into their hair. Kristi Grommet may have had the looks and the body, but her lack of confidence during the challenge was what made Tyra and her fellow judges cut Kristi from the competition.
POST-TOP MODEL After her stint on America’s Next Top Model, Kristi went on to model for In Touch Magazine, where she portrayed Miranda from the HBO series Sex and the City. She has done some test shots, but hasn’t really pursued modelling. In 2014, she directed a freshman/sophomore production of Arabian Nights. She is not currently represented by an agency. She doesn’t have a big footprint on the internet, since there was very little about her online. In 2006, her boyfriend Gunther proposed to her in Times Square in New York City. She currently has 2 sons and 1 daughter. Aside from that, not much is known about what she’s up to these days.
Name: Jennipher Uralcher, née Frost Placed: 10th Age: 35 First Call Outs: 0 Bottom 2: 2 Twitter Followers: 1,420 (@Jennipherfrost) Instagram Followers: 945 (@j.urlacher) Jennipher Frost on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 Her time on America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3 didn’t last very long as she was the fourth contestant eliminated by the judges. During her short stay in the competition, Jennipher frequently had confrontations with Eva Pigford because of the latter’s attitude. She also did not mix well with Ann Markley, with whom she almost engaged in a fight. Part of the makeover that Jennipher received from the show was a haircut, which she did not enjoy, as she was even seen crying after the hairstylist gave her a shoulder-length hairstyle. The fifth challenge for the season was to pose with roller skates on for a Dooney & Bourke accessories ad. The photos that were taken of her did not impress the judges at all, cutting her journey to the top short.
POST-TOP MODEL Jennipher has done some print work, but is currently not represented by an agency. She had modeled for Magic Power Boats, Sex Symbol Jeans, Hot Boat, and Fiu Fiu. Sometime after the show, Jennipher became the food and beverage director of the SLS Beverly Hills. In 2012, Jennipher was the marketing manager at Andrea's in Las Vegas. On March 2016, Jennipher married Brian Urlacher, a former NFL linebacker. Their wedding was featured on the cover of Sports Entertainment Today. She is a step-mom to 3 children (from Brian’s former relationship): 2 daughters (Pam and Riley) and a son (Kennedy). Aside from this, not much is known regarding what else she does.
Name: Kelle Jacob Placed: 9th Age: 32/33 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 0 Bottom 2: 3 Twitter Followers: 190 (@KelleJ) Instagram Followers: 682 (@kellejacob) Kelle Jacob on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 Kelle was sent to the bottom two with Ann Markley during the sixth week of America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3. Although Tyra criticized them both for not bringing their great personalities into their pictures, the judges decided to take out Kelle, believing that she had less potential as a model. After being eliminated, Kelle remarked that she’ll try hard to build her career on her own, but did not seem overly optimistic. During the show, she won one challenge where the girls had to pose as mannequins in a La Perla store window.
POST-TOP MODEL After her appearance on the show, Kelle Jacob was in Source Magazine and had a cover of Eminence Magazine. Kelle has modeled for designers and brands such as College Fashionista. After the show, she attended Hunter College in NYC where she pursued her bachelor’s degree in media (with a minor in english). She has been featured in a series of documentaries about undecided voters in the 2008 presidential democrat primaries for the NY Times. She is currently not represented by an agency. She is currently a member of the Global Marketing and Millennial Innovation Team at Estée Lauder.
Name: Cassie James, née Grisham (Bottom left) Placed: 8th Age: 31/32 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 1 Bottom 2: 1 Twitter Followers: N/A Instagram Followers: 7 (@cassiegjames) Cassie Grisham on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 On America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3, it was revealed that Cassie was suffering from bulimia. Tyra offered to give her counseling, but she refused it, choosing to deal with the condition on her own. However, it was not Cassie’s condition that made her the sixth person to be eliminated from the competition. Rather it was the lack of “fierceness” in her photos and her apparent disinterest that drove the judges to send Cassie home.
POST-TOP MODEL Since the show, Cassie has graduated college in Oklahoma and has done some modeling work including a bridal shot. She was married in February of 2009.Not much else is known about Cassie after Top Model. She has no twitter, her instagram is private and most likely unused, and her fan page on facebook hasn’t been updated in years. Luckily, I found her husband’s facebook and it looks like the couple has 2 children, a boy and a girl.
Name: Toccara Jones Placed: 7th Age: 36 First Call Outs: 1 Bottom 2: 2 Twitter Followers:124k (@iamTOCCARA) Instagram Followers: 139k (@iamtoccarajones) Toccara Jones on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 She was the twelfth finalist selected for Cycle 3, she won "Covergirl of the Week" four consecutive times though was never placed above fourth and was the eighth contestant eliminated. She was voted as one of the most memorable contestants by AOL Entertainment.
POST-TOP MODEL She has been on the covers of Be, Essence, The Next Level Magazine (November 2005), Black Men Magazine, Black Hair Magazine, Braids & Beauty Magazine, King Magazine (February/March 2006, March/April 2006, and May 2008), Queen Sized Magazine, the October 2011 issue of Plus Model Magazine, Evolve Magazine, Rolling Out Magazine, and Sheen Magazine. She also appeared in the December 2008 issue of Ebony Magazine, Jet Magazine, Fashizblack Magazine, Kontrol Magazine, PrimeTyme Magazine, and HypeHair Magazine. She was photographed by Steven Meisel for the July 2008, All black issue of Vogue Italia and had a 14-page spread in the Magazine. The “Black Issue” featured significant past and current black models in response to the “black out” of black models preventing them from getting hired for print and runway jobs.
Toccara has modeled for Ashley Stewart, Star Collection, Avon, Torrid, New York and Company, JCPenny, Target, Essence Magazine, Vibe Magazine, Lady Hennessey, Traci Lynn Jewelry, Evans, Qristyl Frazier Designs, The First Impression Collection, Ashley Stewart's Urban Chic Collection Fall 2010, and Smooth Magazine. Her runway shows include Hot 97’s Third Annual Full Frontal Hip hop Fashion Show, Luxe & Romance Fall 2005, BET Presents: Rip The Runway 2, Elle Girl presents Dare To Be You: Wal-Mart Meets America’s Next Top Models 2005 and Alice & Olivia Fall 2006. She was also selected to be part of the 2007 Rocawear “I Will Not Lose” campaign, representing the Rocawear plus-size line for full-figured females.
Like other ANTM alum, Toccara has ventured into both hosting and acting. She has co-hosted an episode of 106 & Park. She was a correspondent for The Black Carpet and a co-host on the game show Take the Cake, both for the BET network. In 2006, Jones appeared in another reality show for VH1, Celebrity Paranormal Project. In 2008, Jones was a competitor on the second season of the VH1 series Celebrity Fit Club. Jones later appeared on Celebrity Fit Club: Boot Camp, which pitted celebrities from past seasons up against new celebrities. She ended the show weighing in at 166 pounds, surpassing her weight-loss goal by 7 pounds. She has released her own workout DVD called Toccara's Fabulous Work-Out for Real Size Women. In 2011, Jones starred in the second season of the reality series The Ultimate Merger. She made an appearance in Trina's music video for the song "I Got a Thang for You". She participated in a 2009 national tour of The Vagina Monologues with an all-black cast. She also made an appearance in the 2012 movie Think Like A Man. Recently, Toccara has just launched her new lingerie line, Toccara Jones Intimate Apparel.
Name: Nicole Borud Placed: 6th Age: 33/34 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 1 Bottom 2: 1 Twitter Followers: 134 (@EcoBunny) Instagram Followers: 363 (@elocinjay) Nicole Borud on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 For the ninth week of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 3, the remaining girls, including Nicole, were flown to Tokyo in order to shoot a Japanese commercial for Campbell’s Soup. Although all the girls had a difficult time, most especially with learning their lines (which were in Japanese), it was Nicole whom the judges felt did not come through the commercial enough, thus making her the eight contestant to be sent home.
POST-TOP MODEL Some time after being eliminated from the show, Nicole decided to relocate to San Clemente, California. Nicole did not pursue modeling; instead, she has pursued acting. However, I haven’t found anything from her (acting or modeling wise). Her instagram, which is her most active social media platform, doesn’t show us much about her. Her feed has a lot of selfies, her dog, and some of her other interests. It seems she has moved back home to North Dakota. A quick LinkedIn search shows that she works as an Assistant Manager for The Buckle Inc. Previous job experiences post-ANTM show that she worked for Victoria’s Secret as a Visual Merchandising Manager and Sears as Assistant Manager - Softlines.
Name: Norelle Griffith, née Van Herk Placed: 5th Age: 33 (Estimate only; birthday isn’t online) First Call Outs: 0 Bottom 2: 1 Twitter Followers: 36 (@NorelleGriffith) Instagram Followers: 509 (@norelle_griffith) Norelle Van Herk on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 As a finalist on America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3, Norelle was the only competitor among the fourteen girls who came into the competition with braces on her teeth. Her braces were removed as a part of her makeover for the show. Although her overall performance was impressive, her blunders in the Tokyo photo shoot and her difficulty walking on the runway were what compelled the judges to make Norelle the ninth contestant to be eliminated. Her photo shoot for T-Mobile went well, but was not well enough to keep her on the show for another week. During her stint on ANTM, Norelle won a make-up challenge featured during the show’s third episode.
POST-TOP MODEL Norelle was able to attain considerable success as a model after her appearance on America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3. She received contracts from NOUS models and Dream Models in Asia, and working with these agencies were beneficial as she was able to book numerous advertisements. She has done print work for Sisters Magazine, Yes! Magazine, Sudden Weekly, and Goat Boutique. Norelle has also appeared on the TV show One on One. However, Norelle eventually decided to leave the fashion industry temporarily in order to pursue her education.
Sometime after the show, Norelle got married to Dave Griffith and now has 2 beautiful kids; 2 sons and a daughter. Not much is know about what happened to her after she left the industry.
Name: Ann Branca, née Markley Placed: 4th Age:34 First Call Outs: 1 Bottom 2: 4 Twitter Followers: 995 (@annalainamarks) Instagram Followers: 11.8k (@annalainamarks) Ann Markley on IMDB
ANTM CYCLE 3 Ann came close to making it to the Top 3 of America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 3, but was the tenth contestant eliminated from the show. During her stay in the competition, her athletic build prompted supermodel judge Janice Dickinson to bless her with the nickname, “Ann, The Man.” The judges finally gave in to Ann’s inability to produce strong and impressive photographs after the tenth photo shoot, despite Ann’s consistently strong performances on the runway.
POST-TOP MODEL After her appearance on the show, Ann became highly successful as a model in the fashion industry. Going by the name Annalaina Marks, she was able to get a contract from three divisions of Elite Model Management, one of which is in Milan.
She also obtained a contract from MC2, and has done extensive modeling work for Cover, Ford Fusion, ElleGirl Magazine, Gioia Magazine, Joie, Rojas, Heatherette, Nuala, ShopCaravan.com, Glamour Italia Magazine, the October and November 2005 editions of GQ Magazine, Accessories Magazine, Knit ‘N Style, First Magazine, Fashion Washington, Eyecare Business, Manhattan Bride, InStyle, Health Magazine, Marie Claire U.K., Shape Magazine, O: The Oprah Magazine, I Am Water Polo, Charleston Magazine, Fitness Magazine, Women’s Health, Burt’s Bees, Clairol, Beyond Beyond Magazine, Jay Manuel Beauty, Charleston Weddings, Rafaella Fit Your Shape campaign, Vogue Knitting, Pregnancy & Newborn Magazine, Walgreens, Bravado Designs, Target, L’Oreal, Dutch Cosmopolitan Magazine, Free People Magazine, Ray Ban, People Tree, Jimmy Bruch, The John Frieda Collection, Athleta, Champion, Miraclebody, Jones New York, Red Hearts Yarn, Adrianna Papell, LIJA Style, Spring 2014 Collection, Land's End Holiday 2014 Catalogue, Thyme Maternity, Target Maternity, Old Navy Maternity, Capezio 2014 catalogue, Sophia Tolli 2011 Bridal Collection, Lafayette 148 New York, SiO Beauty, KN Karen Neuburger, Lord & Taylor, and Zink Magazine.

Since the show, Ann graced the cover of Bruce J. Nadler, M.D.’s novel, “The Nip Tuck Workout: Exercise through the Eyes of a Plastic Surgeon.” Like other ANTM alumni, Ann has branched into acting. Throughout the years, Ann has appeared in a number of acting projects including Project Runway, Sex, Love & Secrets, Made of Honor, Gossip Girl, Kings, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Bang, Choose, Lights Out, Blue Bloods, The Courier, Person of Interest, The Ones You Love, Delusions of Guinevere, The Good Wife, Club Life, and The Breaks.Ann has also appeared in a commercial for Wheat Thins and Travelocity.   ANTM CYCLE 3 During Cycle 3, the judges were amazed by her photos, especially the un-retouched beauty shot that she took during the third week of the competition. When she went on her go sees in Japan, she was told that she was too old by one of the designers. She participated in the finale along with winner Eva Pigford and Yaya Da Costa, but Amanda was eliminated when she and Eva were in the bottom 2. The judges had a difficult time deciding whom to send home, as all three contestants had strong CoverGirl photos, and all 3 were considered strong contenders, but in the end, it was Amanda. One of the judges, Janice Dickinson, was a dissenting voice on the judging panel, saying, “I love you!” to Swafford when she was eliminated.
POST-TOP MODEL Amanda has appeared on the covers of Felt It! Stitch It! Fabulous! Magazine, Bliss for Bride Magazine, and Access Magazine, and has modeled for Levi’s Jeans, Lacy Little Knits, The Austin Chronicle, Verve Magazine, ELLEmemoir, Shutterbug Magazine, Grove Arcade, Recyclone Designs, Royal Peasantry, Serenity + Scott 2013, The Beading Butterfly, Liz White Designs/Custom Couture, Serenity + Scott Spring 2015 collection, and WEBS. Amanda has walked the runway for ELLEgirl Presents: Dare To Be You. She has also appeared in shorts such as Worst-Case Scenario (which she co-wrote) and Lullaby.
Since the show, Amanda has signed with Storm Model Management in New York City and Acclaim Talent Agency. Her FMD page lists Storm Models London as her current agency. According to a close friend, her retinitis pigmentosa has caused extreme difficulty to see in low lighting, contrary rumors that she has since gone completely blind. Amanda currently works as an aesthetic/style guru for Royal Peasantry. On the show, she was married but has since separate from the man. She has a son, Eli (who is a current high school freshman), with her previous husband. She is currently in a relationship with a new man. In October 25, she came out on her facebook to say she was drugged the night before, while she was attending one of her husband’s show.

ANTM CYCLE 3 Yaya DaCosta was a contestant on Cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model, where she came in second to Eva Pigford. On the show, Yaya showed insecurity regarding her skin, as she was still experiencing breakouts past puberty. While on the show, Yaya won 5 straight challenges (The race up the flight of stairs, the Go-Sees, The Red Carpet interview, The Acting challenge, and The Tea Ceremony. On the eigth episode (“The Girl Who Is Panic-Stricken”), the models were asked to choose a hat as part of their judging test. Yaya chose the cowboy hat, which surprised everyone since Yaya was the model who was proud of her african heritage. When asked why she did not choose the African hat, she claimed that she does not want to be a cliché. She claimed that the hat was made of a very artificial, very cheap kente. During the ninth episode (“The Girls Meet Taye Diggs”), during the judging session, the girls were set a test in which they had to read a commercial and eat umeboshi. Yaya chose to spit her umeboshi almost immediately after putting it in her mouth, which the judges said came across as very disrespectful to the client (if this were to happen in the real world).

Our Very First Ever 'Game Of The Week - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas!'

We wanted to start the Game of the Week Series off with something big, so we thought "What's bigger than GTA:SA on PS2?" The answer of course, is: nothing. This is one of the biggest game worlds on the system, and at the time it was the biggest, greatest, most expansive, detailed, explorable game on any system in the world. And it started out on our beloved PS2 as an exclusive.
So give us your memories of the game! What did you love. What was life like when it came out? What is your favorite part. Were you able to "just follow the damn train?." Let us know, because I know that for me, whole weekends were lost to this game when it came out. It was one of the few games that my whole group of friends were playing, and we all played through it at the same time. It connected us more than any other game ever had up until that point. It was wonderful. Anyway, that's enough about my memories. Here is a little bit about the game:
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is an open world action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 26 October 2004 for the PlayStation 2 console. It is the seventh title in the Grand Theft Auto series, and was the first main entry since Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002. It was released on the same day as the handheld game Grand Theft Auto Advance.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is played from a third-person perspective in an open world environment, allowing the player to interact with the game world at their leisure. The game is set within the fictional state of San Andreas, which is heavily based on California and Nevada.[a] The state of San Andreas consists of three metropolitan cities: Los Santos, based on Los Angeles; San Fierro, based on San Francisco; and Las Venturas, based on Las Vegas. The single-player story follows Carl "CJ" Johnson, who returns home to Los Santos after learning of his mother's murder. CJ finds his old friends and family in disarray, and over the course of the game he attempts to re-establish his old gang, clashes with corrupt cops, and gradually unravels the truth behind his mother's murder. The plot is based on multiple real-life events in Los Angeles, including the rivalry between the Bloods and Crips street gangs, the crack epidemic, the Rampart scandal, and the 1992 Los Angeles riots.
Upon its release, the game was acclaimed by many reviewers who praised the music, story and gameplay. It became the best-selling video game of 2004, and has sold over 27 million copies as of 2011; it remains the best-selling PlayStation 2 game of all time. The game, like it's predecessors, is cited as a landmark in video games for its far-reaching influence within the industry. The violence and sexual content of San Andreas has been the source of public concern and controversy. In particular, a player-made software patch, dubbed the "Hot Coffee mod", unlocked a previously hidden sexual mini-game. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas takes place in 1992 within the state of San Andreas, which is based on sections of California and Nevada. It comprises three major fictional cities: Los Santos corresponds to Los Angeles, San Fierro corresponds to San Francisco, and Las Venturas corresponds to Las Vegas.[8] The environments around these cities are also based on settings within the Southwestern region of the United States. Players can drive up the half-mile (800 m) tall Mount Chiliad (based on Mount Diablo), parachute from various peaks and skyscrapers, and visit 12 rural towns and villages located in three counties: Red, Flint, and Bone counties.
Other new features and changes from previous Grand Theft Auto games include:
• Gang wars: Battles with enemy gangs are prompted whenever the player ventures into enemy territory and kills at least three gang members. If the player then survives three waves of enemies, the territory will be won and fellow gang members will begin wandering the streets of these areas. The more territory owned by the player, the more money that will be generated. Occasionally, the player's territory will come under attack from enemy gangs and defeating them will be necessary to retain these areas. Once all marked territories are claimed from one of the two other gangs for the Grove Street Families, that gang can no longer attack. Once the player takes control of all the territories, none can come under attack.
• Car modification: Most automobiles in the game can be modified and upgraded at various garages. All car mods are strictly visual apart from the stereo and nitrous oxide upgrade which increases bass and gives the car a speed boost when activated respectively; and hydraulics, which lowers the car's height by default and allows the player to control various aspects of the car's suspension. Other common modifications include paintjobs, rims, body kits, side skirts, bumpers and stereo system upgrades.
• Burglary: Continuing the series' tradition of controversy, home invasion is included as a potential money-making activity.[12] By stealing a burglary van, CJ is able to sneak into a residence at night, and cart off valuables or shake down the occupants.
• Minigames: Numerous minigames are also available for play in San Andreas, including basketball, pool, rhythm-based challenges (dancing and 'bouncing' lowriders with hydraulics), and video game machines that pay homage to classic arcade games. In addition, there are the aforementioned casino games and methods of gambling, such as betting on virtual horse races.[13]
• Money: The money system has been expanded upon, compared to previous titles. Players can spend their cash on gambling, tattoos, meals, etc. Excessive gambling loss can force the player to sink into debt, which is shown in red negative numbers. When the player leaves a safehouse, CJ gets an unexpected call and a mysterious person tells him about his debts. Four gang members suddenly appear and shoot Carl on sight if he does not erase the debt when the mysterious person calls him a second time.
• Multiplayer: Rampages have been modified to allow two players to complete them. The players are both shown simultaneously on the screen, meaning they must stay within close proximity of each other. The multiplayer rampages provide such functionality.
Never Played It? Not In Your Collection? Go And Buy It!
Let's kick the "Game Of The Week Series" off with a bang. Let's hear it!

Horse Betting

One of my favorite things to do in San Andreas was going to the horse betting shop and blowing my money on the races.
II'm guessing that horses are going to be in the game, and I thought it would be awesome if you were able to go to the track and bet or even compete in the races yourself.
What do you guys think?

'Let's see if we can clear some stuff out, son': a small clarification post on OpenIV and all that other stuff.

Now, first and foremost, I've written out a post that may prove somewhat informative regarding the concept of OpenIV to those who simply don't know, and aren't informed. I've made this exact post on GTAV's Steam Discussion forums, and I assume that it's always a good thing to spread out this sort of stuff. Feel free to correct me on anything I may have missed, forgotten, or have gotten wrong.
The post is as follows.
-----//-----
Long ago, way before GTAV was a thing, OpenIV already existed... for Grand Theft Auto IV. It's the one with the bowling meme, since you blokes are having issues remembering.
In its existence, it was always about the simple stuff. Player model swaps. Vehicle replacement. Eventually, CLEO mods became a thing. That's the stuff you see when you're on a YouTube video and Niko becomes Superman, because yes. Or, y'know, the Parkour stuff. Complete map replacements went on later; potentially even a total conversion because of that. That's the projects that based themselves on bringing past games onto the RAGE engine - San Andreas, Vice City, III... so on.
Now, OpenIV was not strictly for GTAIV. As time passed and more RAGE-engine games were released, OpenIV adapted itself to modify those games as well. And then along came GTAV, a critically-acclaimed game that had glowing reviews all around. And the PC crowd was wild, 'cause holy s♥♥t best HD-era GTA on PC with the at-the-time next-gen enhancements... like cats.
Don't f♥♥k with cats.
Anyway, double-dipping aside, it was good. GTAV opened up a can of worms in terms of modding. Everything was pristine, it worked flawlessly - you had mods for just about anything you can think of, like with IV and others, but polished - fine-tuned, even, to match the grandiose stage that GTAV set. And it was good.
Now, I'm going to nip it in the bud (and get people to do what the GTAV's engine namesake is) OpenIV is an offline-only modding tool for PC.
Let me repeat that: OpenIV is an offline-only modding tool for PC. If you have a hard time swallowing that, allow me to reminisce about the .IMG editor people use for San Andreas' .IMG files to get the models (DFFs) and textures (TXDs) in. If you don't know what an .IMG file is, it essentially works as San Andreas' own 'rpf' filetype, but... y'know, obviously RenderWare-specific (the engine used for GTA3/VC/SA).
Now, I know what some of you are thinking:
Anyway, I hope this clears some s♥♥t out for everyone involved. I want to say that we’re not going to throw stones at each other over this, but that’d be horribly optimistic. Thank you for your time.

What is wrong with Witcher 3? From the point of view of hardcore fan of Witcher and hardcore RPG.

Note: Since some people seem not to understand the purpose of the thread: I want people, who either like hard, demanding, but also satisfying games, or who are big fans of Witcher books, to share their feeling and opinions on what is not hardcore enough, or not "Witcher enough" in Witcher 3? So, if you think monster fights should be harder, or some game mechanisms are making it too easy, or you find something that does not work in game the way Sapkowski determined it should - please share your thoughts, supporting them with explanation of: how does it work in the game, why it is not as good as it could, and how it would have been made better. This thread's purpose is not to criticize the game as a whole - I think we all agree that it's (the game) great. It's purpose is to discuss what could be improved, from the point of view of hardcore Witcher fans and hardcore video game players. Please do not argue that the game is great (we know that), or show your holy rage that someone criticizes some aspects of your beloved game, or discuss whether this thread makes sense. Instead, please tell us what, in your opinion, could have been realized better than it have (where better means harder - as the title suggest). Thank you
My original message starts here: I haven't played Witcher 3, and I want to know what features may not meet hardcore (and I really mean hardcore) RPG and Witcher fan's expectations. Those that I know of: - witcher senses - you can see the tracks without using senses, but you can't complete a quest this way, since your diary won't update unless you "investigate" tracks with senses. I'd like to be forced to look for tracks hidden in high grass and analyse them on my own without Geralt helping me (I mean, I don't want him to tell me these tracks are old. I want to be forced to deduce it from that they're faded or something) - fast travel (at least it's not obligatory) - my favorite mission in GTA San Andreas was the one in which you drive TT's Mothership from his weed farm to a city, because it was about 15-20 minutes of driving and listening to TT's jabber, which was climatic as fuck. I want to be forced to spend 2 hours travelling between cities, even if there would not be anything there along the way, that would make it more fun, just riding the horse. I want to immerse, even if it requires sacrifice. I want to get bored sometimes. I want to feel like a real Witcher who travels long distances to fight dangerous monsters, get fucked up bad and spend most of the money to get healed and only have enough money to make it to another city.
Those from Witcher 1 or 2, that may be in Witcher 3 without me knowing it: - I heard that in Witcher 2 (which I didn't play too, I only played first game) one Sign (don't remember which one) had different effect than in books. There was even a mod that changes it, as far as I know. - Witcher 1 - recycling of motives Spoiler, dialogues Spoiler or characters (Professor was the second best character in W1. The problem is, he was a copy of... Professor from the saga, where Spoiler - Hack and Slash - if I was to bet on how many monsters did book Geralt kill in his life, I's say 200 would be a maximum, but maybe it's just my impression. But anyway, it wouldn't be too much - every monster in books was a deadly threat, they weren't as many as dangerous. Geralt became a legend by defeating ONE monster - Striga - because it was such a deadly motherfucker. Meanwhile in W1's swamps I killed a few thousands of drowners. I'd like Witcher to be a game where player kills fewer monsters than in other games. Like, about 30-50 monsters during 200 hours of gameplay, where each of them would be able to kill me with one blow and require two in-game days of preparations and investigating (like in "The Witcher" short story, where Geralt Spoiler - Witcher 1 - commonness of Witcher potions and sword oils - in books Geralt had a small chest with a limited number of potions (my bet is 1 of each type), because he did not make them himself (if I'm not mistaken - been a long time since I've read whole saga), but took them from Kaer Morhen - and he used them only when necessary, for monsters that he wouldn't stand a chance against without potions. Even with Geralt brewing his potions himself, they shouldn't be so common. It should be hard to get the ingredients, and the process of making potions should be animated and consume in-game time (for example, we could have to wait two days for potions to ripe)
What are other "problems" of Witcher 3 (and 2, but 3 is my main concern) where it's whether not Witcher enough, not hardcore enough, or not non-repetitive enough?
I know that what I described as bad, for some people may be good. If you think that CDPR did good changing some stuff, or copying some stuff, or not making some stuff too hardcore, this thread is not for you. Please do not argue that it's actually good - I know that your tastes may be different and that's perfectly okay, but I created this thread to learn what is NOT hardcore in this game. This thread is for people who like it canon and hardcore as hell.

Questions Answers
Hi all! I was wondering, what do you think it would take to get bitcoin from a niche currency used mainly by internet denizens to go mainstraim? I know the slow creep of more small companies accepting bitcoin helps, but what do you think that final cusp will be, and will it ever come to that? Thanks for taking the time to do this! There are several potential tipping points, but my favorite one is a large corporation accepting Bitcoin.
Amazon has an incredibly small operating margin, less than 1% - They have more than that in transaction costs, so if they were to accept Bitcoins for product and offer Bitcoins as payment to their affiliates it would cause a rush of other companies to jump onboard for the same reasons.
Once that happens with one large company, it sets a precedent. Doing something new is scary, and when the regulatory environment is uncertain like it is with Bitcoin the choice to accept could potentially cost you a lot of money later if it's retroactively made not OK and the value of the currency plummets.
But once a company like Amazon or Google jumps in, they have enough political swing and momentum that attacking Bitcoin becomes attacking them, and they'll fight that tooth and nail if it's saving them money.
Another example of a tipping point would be a country, ANY country, adopting it as their formal currency OR issuing a new currency with Bitcoins as the transparent backing of it. With bitcoin you can have a functional gold standard, because the gold doesn't need to be hidden from sight.
It is the hiding that makes gold standards dangerous - The people who issue currency with the gold as backing have no reason to issue the correct amount when only they know how much is out there, and how much gold they have.
I guess the Supreme Court has decided this does not apply to taxes, which is crap. Or are you talking about other countries? Thank you :) I actually mean something along the lines of "It is illegal to trade dollars for any cryptocurrency that does not have a real name and social security associated with it"
Will bitcoins ever be able to be traded like other recognized currencies in similar ways to Forex? More specifically, will there ever be retail brokers offering margin trading accounts that allow you to buy and sell bitcoin with leverage? There are already really small niche sites you can trade Bitcoin at leverage with, but it's just a bad idea. With a "normal" commodity market, like say chickens, if you think chickens are undervalued and want to profit from them you can buy forward production of say, a million chickens. Then when the option comes due, if you're on the profitable side of the trade you can essentially sell it for cash and the chickens never need to be delivered. In that way, it almost doesn't matter if the chickens ever existed to begin with because you never intended to take posession. With Bitcoin, it's different - Converting a bitcoin options contract into US dollars, yen, whatever actually is more expensive and time consuming than just "accepting delivery" of the bitcoins themselves. You can still sell them for whatever currency you want, but it is at the time of your choosing rather than at the point of settlement. What that means is that if you sell an option and the Bitcoins don't really exist, you could be screwed. You either default or buy them at market price which can be very painful given how volatile the pricing is right now. It is a bad idea to play with leverage in Bitcoin because if you lose, you potentially lose very big. Additionally, it's bad to buy an option because you introduce the possibility of the counterparty (supply) not being able to deliver, whereas if you just bought Bitcoins you have the Bitcoins.
Do you believe bitcoin is important locally as well as on the internet? If so, how are you promoting bitcoin in your local communities? Cryptocurrencies (of which Bitcoin is the most prominent) are the first real competition to the types of money we've used all our lives. With Dollars, Yen, Whatever - Ultimately there are a handful of people who get to decide how and why the currency should be managed.
If they did a good job, it might be fine - But the reality is the decision made affecting all users of the currency are to the benefit of a very few , at the cost of the many.
Bitcoin is different - The rules that govern it, are the rules that govern it. Nobody can break them, and if they're ever broken it's because more than 51% of the distributed power in the system (anyone can buy a mining rig and join this group). For me, that's incredibly important. Rules should apply evenly to everyone because otherwise they're not rules at all.
Local communities can benefit because it removes payment processors from merchant relationships, removes chargeback risk, and basically acts like Cash on the internet.
What are some of the more exciting things you (each of you?) envision for Bitcoin in the short to medium term? Discounts :) We've been talking about the deflationary business model, and during this period where the value is going to go up pretty fast (over the next several years) as adoption ramps up, businesses are going to be giving major discounts to those who choose to spend them.
From the merchants perspective, this is actually a huge win - They get to have lower prices than their US Dollar (or local currency) competitors, and the value of the Bitcoins they receive goes up over time instead of going down with printed currencies. Once this becomes pervasive in the Bitcoin economy, it will mean that even at those discounted prices they are STILL profitable because their suppliers are also offering them discounts to pay in Bitcoin.
Right now we're at the beginning of this cycle, you can see BitcoinStore.com is attempting it (Disclosure - They have sponsored us in the past, we run a 30s advertisement for them per show) but it's hard to be the first one doing it because it looks like you're sacrificing yourself when really it's just the model that makes the most sense.
Not to be the doom and gloom person but in the future what do you think will/would be the "last nail in the coffin" for Bitcoin? It depends what you mean by "last nail in the coffin"
How did you meet/find Andreas and Stephanie and how did you persuade them to be part of your show? I put out a call for staff several months ago, Andreas found me through that and joined the team initially as a correspondent providing expertise and commentary while Mt.Gox was having a lot of problems. Once we re-started the show as a twice-weekly, he graciously offered to join the hosting staff and gladly took him up on it.
I found Stephanie through her show Porc therapy, and a listener named Justus - He mentioned she did voicework, and I hired her to do some of our early introductions and advertising spots. When we went through the re-organization I offered her an occasional hosting role, and never bothered finding other hosts because I was so happy with our dynamic and varied viewpoints.
Both of the other hosts on the show are real professionals, and it's been my distinct pleasure to work with them.
Thanks for responding! Andreas is my fave (though I enjoy yours and Stephanie's comments too). Everybody has their favorite :) I think the fact that we all have people disagreeing with us at times means we're doing the job, and providing multiple and varied perspectives.
What recording tools are you using? We started off using Skype, Virtual Audio Cables (VAC) and Adobe Audition (creative suite)
Now we use Mumble instead of Skype, but the rest is the same.
I edit the host segments for content (sometimes we go on and on and on) and I edit the interviews for presentation, rarely removing any content. Many times the skillset that enables you to have a really smart idea is not the same skillset that lets you present that idea, perfectly, the first time. Our interview subjects tell me all the time "I love how smart I sound" and I get to say "You are smart, I just removed the brain processing noises"
Assuming bitcoin reaches critical mass, how does bitcoin cope with the criticism of rewarding early adopters? Do you see a potential uproar about inequity? Is there outrage against people who bought Apple stock at $30? Bitcoin is a currency that right now, and for the next few years, acting like an IPO. People who got in early got in cheap, but there was a whole lot of risk because people weren't using it much, there wern't vendors accepting it, so the use case is much more speculative.
We're very much still in the early adoption phase right now - Less than %.01 of internet users are Bitcoin users, as that number grows while the number of coins being added to the total pool grows at a much slower rate, the price per coin has to go up. If Bitcoin fails and everybody abandons it, this works the opposite way - but it actually solves a number of problems (microtransactions, fees, international money transfers, automated payment systems) so I'm not super concerned about that.
One of my favorite quotes, by Douglas Adams.
>It is a rare mind indeed that can render the hitherto non-existent >blindingly obvious. The cry 'I could have thought of that' is a very >popular and misleading one, for the fact is that they didn't, and a very >significant and revealing fact it is too.
What do you make of the download trend of the bitcoin client software in China? Isn't this a big story? China has lots of restrictive controls on their local currency, so Bitcoin has a real use case there. This is one of many scenarios where given even 1% adoption, the price must go very much above where it is now.
You commented on a recent episode about how Satochi Dice was going to block US traffic to the site due to uncertain regulations. Can't bitcoin work around that? If you send bitcoin to the addresses of the various bets - it still works right? Thanks for your show - I await each new podcast. Yes, if you already have the specific betting addresses it doesn't matter where you are in the world. It is only the website that does not allow US IPs, they did this to be very clear they were trying to respect the US gambling laws.
I spoke with Erik Voorhees about this among other things at the conference, you can find that interview here Link to letstalkbitcoin.com
I'd like to thank all three of you for doing this podcast, it's always thought provoking and fun to listen to. Plus, Stephanie does have a very sexy voice... But I do have a question, Right now, I don't know the answer to that question.
How do miners determine which transactions will be confirmed first and which get put to the back of the line? Shouldn't they be confirmed in a 'first come, first serve' basis? But the development team has made it clear they're moving towards a market-based mechanism where Miners set the minimum transaction fee they will accept, and process on a first-come/highest-fee model. People who want their transaction to process fast will put a higher fee and it will be prioritized, while people who don't care about delivery time will be able to send no fee and be subsidized by those paying higher fees.
*edit: As well, do you still plan on using some time on the show to go into more detail about mining? I think it was mentioned a few weeks ago that the topic might be explored in further detail. There will be fewer miners who accept free or very low fee transactions, so there you go.
How would Bitcoin change our financial system as we know it? In the same way the automobile changed the horse-and-buggy system as they knew it. If you play out the logic, one functionally obsoletes the other. I was talking with a financial reporter the other day who has been coming around to bitcoin, and he said to me "You know, if they were building the banking system from scratch today I think this is pretty close to what it would look like"
Andreas answered a question below about bitcoin and self driving cars, fixing spam on the internet by using Bitcoin addresses with tiny amounts of BTC in them to prove you're a real person and not a single-use bot, there are so many crazy and impossible things that become actually probable when you're talking in the context of a world built on decentralized, rules-based, cryptographically secured, instantly transmittable, person to person internet cash.
I have never been so hopeful for our future as I am now that I've thrown my days into bitcoin. Bitcoin 2013 was a fine conference and a wonderful experiance, so many very smart people have quit their jobs or left their studies to do the same thing I have.
We know we're building the future, and it's a better one than we have today.
Have any of you heard about how in Africa much of the exchange in value is done with mobile phone minutes? It seems to me - whatever the US attempts to do with Bitcoin - there will be other places that it will bubble up in. What about Argentina and other places where they actually understand what damage a desperate government can do to a currency? I would agree with you. Until recently it's been impossible to use Bitcoins on a "dumb cell phone" - That changed recently with Link to phoneacoin.com and others.
Bitcoin solves problems that the world has had for decades, it takes the power to destroy the currency away from government so they cannot do it no matter how much they want to, or how desperately they think they need to.
No government wants to destroy a currency, they just don't want to acknowledge they've trapped themselves with debt and have no way out.
Who invented Bitcoin? What is to stop whoever did so initially issuing themselves the equivalent of $79 zillion in Bitcoin currency prior to it taking off? Is there commission charged on each transaction that occurs? If so, how much, and who receives this? The true creator is not known, he went by a false name "Satoshi".
He actually holds about 250,000 coins if I recall correctly because he was the first miner. Bitcoin is a protocol, a set of rules. It's open source, and anyone who wants to look at it can see that there is not a mechanism to just create more coins by typing in a magic word. There are no commissions, although there are fees that go to the miners who process and verify transactions.
Great podcast, can't wait for the next one! It depends on the mesh. If the mesh was never connected to the internet, it would be a parralel Bitcoin network able to transact with itself but if it was ever connected to the larger network any conflicting transactions would be "lost" as the two ledgers (the big one, and the disconnected one) try to reckon their differences. Only one winner, so that means there is a loser.
You discussed mesh networks in 3rd world countries and how bitcoin could be used in such a scenario. If the [mesh] network is disconnected from the internet, how would transactions on the blockchain be verified? Couldn't the time the mesh network was disconnected make it vulnerable to hacking the [mesh network's] blockchain? More interesting might be disconnected communities running their own fork or version of Bitcoin, that way if they're ever connected it can be an exchange process (trading their coins for "bitcoins" rather than a reckoning (Seeing who has a bigger network and canceling out transactions on the smaller one that conflict)
1) The price for one Bitcoin seems to fluctuate quite a bit. The most successful currencies remain relatively stable over time (e.g. the Dollar). Will Bitcoin ever need to reach a certain level of stability to be a successful unit of trade? and if so, what do you think needs to happen before then? 1 - Yes! Once everyone who has purchased Bitcoin has purchased them, the price will stabilize. In practice this will start happening long before absolute stability, and as soon as people start thinking about prices in terms of BTC instead of their local currency it almost doesn't matter.
2) If Bitcoin ever becomes a widely accepted form of payment (seems a lot of businesses already accept it), how do you think the US government will proceed/react/regulate/etc. considering that technically only the feds can issue currency? 2 - "The Feds" are not the only ones who can issue currency - They have legal tender laws which mean people MUST accept their money, but nothing prevents you from circulating a voluntary currency like Bitcoin.
Do you foresee companies like paypal incorporating bitcoin into their businesses in the future as a more credible exchange than these ones that are currently running? No. Paypal again is the proverbial horse-drawn-buggy manufacturer- Sure they might go to the worlds faire and while observing the new fangled automobiles say to themselves 'we might integrate this into our existing machines!' when the fact is that it obsoletes those existing machines.
Paypal makes their money by standing in the middle of transactions collecting fees, Bitcoin serves its function by connecting people who want to do commerce directly to one-another, and what fees are paid are a tiny fraction of what Paypal does. If paypal accepted Bitcoin, it would not be Bitcoin any more because they would have mechanisms to freeze accounts at the very least to mitigate risk. That is not possible with Bitcoin by itself.
Thanks for the well thought out response, I genuinely appreciated that you took the time for this! I do have a follow up question, how does one get bit coin in an easy way? Lets say I have 300$ that I want in bit coin.. whats the best way to approach this? Probably a company like bitinstant.com, bitstamp.com, or btcquick.com - For larger amounts they don't make too much sense but at that level its your best bet.
Not to be rude, but how do you expect for a currency without a standard like gold silver etc. to not crash down in a blaze of glory? What standard is your currency backed by?
Hi There. I was at the San Jose convention hall last weekend attending Big Wow Comicfest and that's where I saw Bitcoin2013! Mostly Bitcoin 2013 was an opportunity for people building the future of Bitcoin to meet each other and network. There were speakers talking about a wide variety of issues, and vendors of Bitcoin services who were showing their latest innovations and systems.
What information was presented at this event that couldn't be done justice disseminated over the internet? The information will eventually be online, but the probably 200 people I got to meet in real life will not (in real life)
What resources do you think I should review as a total newbie to bitcoin? Or if possible, what's the one sentence pitch to get a newb involved? For people brand new, www.weusecoins.com is a good place to start For people who want to learn how it works, www.letstalkbitcoin.com/learn will direct you to the Bitcoin Education Project, which is a series of free and very high quality lectures that will tell you everything you ever wanted to know and more about Bitcoin, How it works, and all the little sub-topics that you'll eventually want to learn about.
The pitch is "It's like cash that lives on the internet, and is as easy to spend on the internet as buying a candybar in a store with a dollar"
Would any of you hazard a guess at the bitcoin exchange rate at the end of 2013? Sure, i'll make a wild guess.
$1000.
If and when a large user comes onboard, I think thats the next price at which we'll bounce around for a while, just like 100 became the sticky point after the last major bout of adoption.
How do bitcoins relate to the law? For example, what would be the crime if somone hacked your account and stole your bitcoins? It's not exactly theft of money, or is it? Bitcoins are your property, it's illegal for someone to steal your property whether it is money or not. Right now there is little that can be done about theft, but eventually I expect a class of "Blockchain Forensic Investigators" to emerge who will track down your stolen coins for a % based fee.
On your last show you mentioned the diversity of the Bitcoiners who attended BitCoin2013 - which nation was most represented in your opinion? Were there any Chinese nationals present (we've heard that they've suddenly gotten the bitcoin bug in the last month)? Did the other nations talk about regulatory problems or is that just a US concern? I met the gentleman from BTC-China, but other than that I actually didn't see any obvious chinese nationals. We saw lots of eastern europeans and south americans.
Other nations are not talking about the regulatory issue as far as I can tell, it seems like everyone is waiting to see what the US does, which is not abnormal in a very new situation like this.
Isn't having an inherently deflationary currency a terrible idea? How is bitcoin different from geeky goldbuggery? Because you can't divide a gold coin into .0001 without incurring cost and expense. That's not the case with Bitcoin, so the deflationary aspect of it is largely moot.
There is a tendency to listen to modern "economics" which makes this arguement, saying that the money supply must expand because otherwise it drives down profitability in a race to the bottom.
I think in practice we'll find that people don't work against their own best interest, and while during the initial adoptions stages of Bitcoin there will be significant discounts offered to those who pay with Bitcoin vs. legacy currency, once the market becomes saturated and the price levels out those discounts will be scaled way back.
Right now it makes sense to heavily discount, because the expectation is that the value of the Bitcoins will go up during this period of adoption, that won't always be true and the discount is a reflection of anticipated future returns.
Was it bad when people saved money in banks that paid 10% interest? No, that's called capital formation. There is a thought that given a deflationary currency nobody will spend any money, that's nonsense. Just because your currency gains value over time doesn't mean that you no longer have costs that must be paid for. What Deflationary currencies do is say "Ok, you could spend it on that, but is it worth it relative to what you'll gain by not?"
That's a good thing. Our system right now works on the opposite theory - Spend money NOW because if you're dumb enough to keep it in the bank it will actually lose value over time between the couple points of "official" inflation and less than 1% artifical interest rates. The situation is like this now because the fed is trying to make people spend as much money as possible with the hope that the flows will "restart the economic engine"
Too bad this isn't how things work, not that it'll stop us from trying it over and over again.
In the 2008 financial crash, govts bailed out the banks because there was no other way to maintain the whole financial ecosystems of payrolls, invoices and trade, all of which go through the banking system. Honestly? No. Bitcoin would be great in this role, but governments around the world rely on their ability to expand the money supply (print money, or sell debt) in order to fund their deficits. They also manipulate interest rates to be low so that debt is very inexpensive.
Can you envisage another financial crash in the future where govt says, "We don't need to do a bailout, as we've got this alternative payment system" and then instructs businesses and employees to just get themselves a bitcoin address and work through the Bitcoin system? Bitcoin doesn't have a central control mechanism, so there is no group or person who can say "OK - the interest rate is 1%" - If that's really what the interest rate wants to be based on market forces, it'll be that - But if not, there isn't much anyone can do to stop it.
What type of notes and agenda does the team coordinate on before a show? We use Basecamp, and it really depends. Right now we have a show prep thread that has 30+ posts in it for episode 11, we'll probably use 5 of those.
The agenda is really basic - As we get near recording time topics are selected (generally by me, but I like to get the other hosts to do it since they provide most of the commentary in Host segments) and I form a schedule, then we run through the recording session hitting each topic.
Over the last weeks we've brought two researchers onto the team, so that has helped a TON.
I first learned about Bitcoins on an episode of The Good Wife. The one with Jason Biggs as the creator of BitCoin. Have you watched that episode and how accurate does that episode portray what's happening with Bitcoin in terms of legal stuff? Not having seen it but knowing TV, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "not very well" Satoshi has not been identified, was a throw-away identity that was cryptographically secured, so probably never will.
Are there any conferences in Chicago anytime soon? I think a Q&A in public would be helpful for your show as well as bitcoin. I'll be speaking at an event in NYC on July 30, there will be one or two meetups while I'm there. There is also an event in October in Atlanta. I remember talking with a guy at Bitcoin2013 wearing a shirt that said "BitcoinChicago" so I'd suggest looking for a user-group.
We're planning on doing Q&As often, but none of us are really near Chicago so it's tough. Happy to do virtual Q&As over skype, live or recorded.
Oh dear. You're not all perfectly grammatical orators on the first try? I'm crushed! I really value my own time, and I know other people out there do too. I try to make the show as information dense as possible, thats the criteria we've been operating under from really day one.
We're actually talking about cutting the show in half and releasing it more often (still recording the same amount) because people can get tired of listening to such dense content for an hour or more.
US Treasury recently issued a directive stating they would be monitoring any entity attempting to exchange virtual currency for USD (or any other currency, goods, or services), indicating that federal authorities take a dim view of what amounts to private coinage. Do you anticipate a Supreme Court case here defining what is and is not private coinage? 2.And given bitcoin's noted extra-legal uses, do you have any indication it is being decrypted by NSA? 3.Taking it a step further, do you think it could be a national security-sponsored international sieve for money laundering? It may eventually go to Supreme Court.
I think the market has done fine for bitcoin so far. I think the market will continue to take care of bitcoin. The idea of giving in willingly to regulation makes me cringe. There are two camps. Some people think that regulation is inevitable, and since it's going to happen anyways it's better to participate in the process and try to make it less bad. The other side thinks that by participating, you accept their authority to regulate it when really they have no right to regulate money and have proven to do a very bad job at it now for quite a number of years.
Thanks so much for doing this, I love the Bitcoin system, but hate the volatility. How do you recommend dealing with that? I've heard to convert it quickly to the currency of choice after any exchange has been made to avoid any more changes to the price. The easy solution is just buy and hold - If you need to buy something, do it when you need to and not before. Do not pre-order anything.
What is your prediction of the price for 1 btc in USD, exactly one year from now? Just for fun, since I know it is impossible to even guess the day to day price swings. As a wild guess number I'd say $1000 or less than a dollar. Very little middleground because if it's regulated out of existence it will still exist, but be hard to find and cheap - If adoption continues to path the price should accelerate with wild spikes up and down.
My partner is buying into bitcoin as well as litecoin. Any advice for him? (I personally don't understand it) Don't panic, invest for the long term, and don't buy any more than you can afford to lose 100% of because there are still things that could dramatically reduce the price of bitcoin (mostly regulatory stuff, I answered this elsewhere in the thread)
Hello, I just wrote a long post about the functions of using BTC to facilitate a 'free bank' using the principals of free money, similar to the WIR bank. Link to en.wikipedia.org Do you think that something like this would be possible using Bitcoin? Probably. Not really my area of expertise.
Why did bits take a dive at the same time gold took a tank? I don't pay attention to price, sorry.
We take full credit for any rise and blame others for any decline. Feel free to tip us from your gains! Lol.
Just wanted to say I love your show. I encourage you to please continue making high-quality podcast episodes. Thank you. I'm really excited to be able to be a journalist in such an exciting field in a time when journalism is under attack. Not sure if you've been following the so-called "AP scandal" but now is a weird time to be trying to report the truth in this world, and we couldn't have picked a more controversial topic to the global macro picture.
Bitcoins are the stupidest investment anyone could ever make. Pass. Link to static.quickmeme.com

Yes, but they started being worth a set value. bitcoin was never backed by anything so its value was kind of made up. how do you expect to make a non goverment currency anybody with a computer can print to retain value? Because the pie is only so large, the more people who have computers devoted to the work just each get a smaller and smaller piece.
The rate of issuance for Bitcoin is currently 25 bitcoins every 10 minutes. Only one person or pool gets the whole 25 bitcoins, it's a race to find them. If there are 10 people looking, chances are pretty good you'll find some. If there are 100,000,000 people looking, chances are much less good that you'll find them first, but if there are that many people looking those 25 coins are probably worth a whole lot more.
The system is self balancing in this way, unlike the government currency system where they create 65 billion USD worth of new value every month to buy mortgage backed securities for face value to try and prop up the market. With more than a trillion USD being added in this way each year, how can a government currency retain its value?
Because the governments "pie" does infact have limits to making it, and only dropped gold standard after over 150 years of the doller having a defined worth, unlike bitcoin, where a random hacker can just print endless money. I'd direct you to security researcher Dan Kaminsky. Link to www.businessinsider.com
You'll find it's a little harder than you're describing. Like, impossible.
