[Game Preview] Playoff Edition Divisional Round - New Orleans Saints (13-3) vs Philadelphia Eagles(10-7)
Philadelphia Eagles (10-7) at New Orleans Saints (13-3)
The skin of a Treyvon Hester’s pinky saved the Eagles’ season last week as it altered the flight of the Cody Parkey field goal attempt just enough to cause the double doink and send the Eagles to the divisional game against the number 1 seed New Orleans’ Saints. On the Eagles last trip to the Superdome earlier in the season they took a beating of lifetime as the Saints rolled 48-7 running up the score and going for it on 4th down in the fourth when they were already in field goal range and up 3 scores. The Eagles will be looking for revenge and a win to send them back to the NFCCG and a chance to go back to the Super Bowl and defend their title. The task won’t be easy, the high powered offense run by Drew Brees and architected by Sean Payton have put up points at will this season averaging 31.5 points per game. The Eagles defense will need to play better this time around if they have any hope of pulling up the upset in New Orleans. The eagles will have some help Avonte Maddox who missed a majority of the first meeting with an injury has returned and played well of late and the Eagles got some reinforcements on the DL getting DT Timmy Jernigan back from the NFI list. The Eagles patchwork secondary has also become more in sync the past few games which should help. On the other side of the ball the Eagles will look a little different from their first meeting with Nick Foles under a healthy Jason Kelce who missed majority of the first game and healthy Lane Johnson. The Eagles have also returned Darren Sproles since their first meeting who has looked spry in his return to action adding another dimension to the Eagles offense. Both these teams are hungry to add another Super Bowl trophy to the collection. While Pederson said being in the divisional round was motivation enough, which may be true as many of the players on this team already have a ring from last season and know what is at stake. Payton took a different route wheeling in the trophy and 200K in cash presumably taken from the leftover Bounty Fund to motivate his team to win the next three games. No matter how they motivate their players though, the two coaches will be in a chess match Sunday with the winner moving on to the NFC Championship and a step closer to the Super Bowl. Go Birds!
Record VS. Spread: Philadelphia 7-9-1, New Orleans 10-6

Saints 48 - Eagles 7
The Eagles went into New Orleans beat up and left worse off as Jason Kelce, Avonte Maddox and Sidney Jones all left the game due to injury. The beat up Eagles were no match for the Saints who had their way with them all day long. Brees passed for 363 yards and four touchdowns, and the Saints won their ninth straight with a 48-7 demolition of Philadelphia on Sunday that marked the Eagles' worst loss by far since they won last season's Super Bowl.
Eagles - Video – In the battle of Reid’s Bastards, Pederson’s team struck first as the Eagles scored on a Jake Elliott field goal on the opening possession. The scoring went silent until a Nick Foles INT set up a FG for the Bears to bring the score to a tie, the Bears added another field to take the Bears into halftime up 6-3. The Eagles took the lead on their first possession of the second half with a Dallas Goedert TD before the Bears answered with a TD and FG of their own to take a 15-10 lead. The Philadelphia Eagles needed help to get into the playoffs, and Chicago provided it. The Eagles repaid them by knocking off the number defense for the second year in a row in the playoffs to send the Bears home. Foles lead the Eagles offense down field and scored a Golden Tate TD with under a minute to go in the game. The Bears marched down the field with a chance to answer and come away with the win on a last second field. Pederson iced Parkey on his first attempt when he lined up for his second shot. He lined up and kicked it with a slightly low trajectory, just low enough for the pinky of Trayvon Hester alter the flight and cause a double doink off the upright and cross bar. The Philadelphia Eagles needed help to get into the playoffs, and Chicago provided it. The Eagles repaid them by sending them home in the wildcare round as Pederson came out victorious in the Battle of Reid’s bastards.
Saints - Saints had a first round bye.

The Philadelphia Eagles finished with the top ranked front seven in football according to Pro Football Focus.
Avonte Maddox has allowed the second lowest passer rating in the NFL this season.
The Eagles have gone the most consecutive playoff game without a 100 yard rusher (nine games). The last time they had one Brian Westbrook against the Saints in 2006.
Eagles Defensive Line have the 4th best pass rush win rate within 2.5 seconds at 57% according to ESPN NextGen Stats.
No team has repeated as Super Bowl champion since New England in 2004, and the Eagles are a sixth seed. The last sixth seed to win the NFL title was Green Bay in the 2010 season; the Packers won the NFC championship at Soldier Field that season.
Nick Foles has thrown multiple TDs in three consecutive playoff games, which is tied with Donovan McNabb (Jan. 16-Feb. 6, 2005) for the longest streak in Eagles postseason history. Overall, Foles has recorded two-or-more passing TDs in four of his five career playoff games.
Nick Foles has beaten the No. 1 scoring defense in consecutive postseasons (2018 Bears, 2017 Vikings). John Elway (1997-98) and Joe Montana (1988-89) are the only other QBs since the 1970 merger to do that.

Tackling
Eagles fans have been loving the physicality of the Eagles defense, lately, and especially the comeuppance of LB Nigel Bradham and CB Rasul Douglas. Both have been indispensable and tackling machines, lately. Looking at the CBs - Of the 8 teams remaining in the playoffs, New Orleans features 3 CBs in the top 6 in terms of tackling efficiency (weighted by snaps), when looking at the 2018 regular season (Lattimore, Crawley, Williams. If you narrow that to the second half of the season, Rasul Douglas rises to #8. Looking at the LBs - Hicks and Grugier-Hill were the 4th and 9th-best in tackling efficiency, with Anzalone at 11th, Davis at 16th, and Bradham at 18th. If you're going to look at the 2nd half of the season to see who was on the rise, well Bradham didn't actually rise. That distinction falls to Craig Robertson, who was 5th, Anzalone at 10th, and Grugier-Hill at 11th. Hicks was 16th, Gerry 17th, and Bradham 18th. Run Stopping was Bradham's bigger strength, neck-and-neck with AJ Klein and Davis (9th, 8th, 10th, respectively for the regular season).
Pro Football Focus Matchup Charts courtesy of PFF Edge (join.profootballfocus.com/edge/)
More Eagles running backs have had 100-yard postseason rushing games at the Superdome in New Orleans than in any other stadium. Including their own stadiums! Wilbert Montgomery had the only Eagles 100-yard rushing game at the Vet (194 yards in the 1980 NFC Championship Game) and Brian Westbrook has the only one so far at the Linc (141 yards against the Giants in a 2006 wild-card game). But both Heath Sherman (105 yards in 1992 wild-card game) and Westbrook (116 yards in 2006 conference semifinals) have done it at the Superdome.
Matchups to Watch
Eagles Passing Attack vs. Saints Pass Defense
Thanks to Eagles great Cody Parkey, the Eagles have a chance for revenge Sunday in New Orleans. The Saints are a complete team and even if the Eagles were at full strength this would be a significant test for them. Both sides of the ball are playing and coaching well of late with some stability added to the Eagles back end. Despite that, the biggest matchup the Eagles need to win will be with their passing offense. The Eagles defense does have the ability to make some plays that can change the game but it will be a tall task given injury and Brees. Basically, the Saints should be able to score and the Eagles are going to need to keep up. The Saints enter the contest with a top flight run defense by yardage surrendered and yards per carry which plays into the Eagles hands since they aren't an effective run offense. The simple truth is you throw to score points and get a lead then rush to keep the lead and bleed the clock. The Eagles will need Foles to play a much cleaner game than he did outside of the final drive last week. Fortunately, he'll have the benefit of facing a worse, but solid, pass defense. The Saints do have talented pieces in their secondary with second year pros Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams. After those two the matchups become more intriguing for the Eagles. It's no secret the Eagles struggled mightily to incorporate Golden Tate into the offense but it appears that the coaches have finally made him a useful part of the offense. The shift to 12 personnel to close and save the season was a breath of fresh air but the Eagles beat the Bears with heavy 11 personnel. This was smart as it allowed the Eagles to best attack where the Bears defense was relatively weak. Since the Beatdown on Bourbon, the Saints have allowed an opponent passer rating of 80.3 with 5.6 yards per attempt and an average of 8.3 Air Yards per attempt against 11 personnel. Compare that to a passer rating allowed of 107.2 with 8.2 yards per attempt and an average of 13.3 Air Yards per attempt out of 12 personnel and you can see where the cracks in the pass defense are. Given the depth of receiving options for the Eagles and the questionable players on the back end for the Saints, it's possible we'd see an uptick in 12 personnel to take advantage of weak safety play from players not named Marcus Williams and questionable coverage LBs. But the Eagles are multiple out of every personnel grouping and can really give the Saints defense fits with what they do. Furthermore, the short passing game serves as an extension of the running game so we'll see a diverse attack against the Saints. New Orleans is very likely to score in the contest so the Eagles offense needs to be the one to carry the defense in this showdown. They have the opportunity, coaching, and talent to do so.
Eagles Defensive Line vs. Saints Offensive Line
t all starts up front for the Eagles in this contest as it does for the Saints as well. This is a strength v. strength matchup that the Saints won with ease last time surrendering only 1 QB hit and a handful of pressures. That cannot happen to the Eagles again this week. The pass rush will have to have some impact in order to throw off the Saints pass rush. Drew Brees will go down as one of the best QBs in the history of the sport but like every QB in the NFL his production dips against pressure. Brees is one of the best QBs under pressure but pressure forces fewer successful plays and even negative plays. Unfortunately for the Eagles they face a Saints OL that should have all of their starters ready for contest. Armstead is an elite tackle and Ramczyk is a very good right tackle; both are very good in run and pass protection. PFF LVP Andrus Peat is a good LG and Center Max Unger had an All Pro caliber season. It's a good group that is well coached. There have been some cracks in production lately for the offensive line as they suffered some injury so it'll be wise to pay attention to how they all play coming out of the bye. Depth along the DL for the Eagles isn't as great as it normally is but the unit is playing as well as it could be at the most important time. They'll need to be active and disciplined to defend the air and ground attacks of the Saints. The greater impact must come against the pass in order to throw the Saints offense out of rhythm.
Eagles Pass Defense vs Saints Passing Offense
If the Eagles are going to pull off the upset they are going to need to have one of their stronger performances of the year on the back end which is a tall task. In their first meeting, Schwartz elected to double team Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara repeatedly. This lead to predictable man to man across the board and forcing everyone else to win their 1v1 matchups. Yeah. This week that won't happen again since we do have warm bodies to build a game plan after learning a valuable lesson. Michael Thomas is fresh off of 1st Team AP honors with an 85% catch rate; the Eagles don't have a CB on the roster that can limit him and give him fits like Byron Jones did. Ted Ginn will return to action for this game. And Alvin Kamara is still Alvin Kamara. Most importantly, Drew Brees is still stupid good. The Eagles will likely have to come up with a game plan to take away/limit Michael Thomas but mix up a lot of coverages elsewhere. Either way, they need to add some variety in what they do while playing disciplined enough to take away the big play. Despite the increasingly positive play from the secondary as a whole it is still not a good enough unit to shut down the Saints offense. They'll need to work off the pass rush and play smart football to try and force the Saints into mistakes. And frankly, it'll come down to guys like Nigel Bradham not getting worked by lesser talents like Dan Arnold again.
Eagles Offensive Line vs Saints Pass Rush
This is another fun matchup for those interested in trench warfare as the elite Eagles offensive line battles the Saints fun pass rush. The Saints group is led by All Pro Cameron Jordan and budding star Sheldon Rankins. This is as formidable a pass rush duo as you'll find in the NFL. Both have the ability to generate a lot of heat on the QB and make big plays against opposing offenses. You'll see defensive coordinator Dennis Allen be very creative with both rushers - especially Jordan - by lining them up all over the formation. The rest of the Saints defensive front features a number of quality pass rushers the Eagles offensive line will face. Common perception after the Bears game was that the offensive line completely shut down Khalil Mack; while Mack didn't make any impact plays in pass rush he was still a factor. The Eagles OL rose to the occasion against a talented Bears front and limited them from making a huge impact even though they made some plays elsewhere. That's what the Eagles offensive line needs to do again and they are very capable of doing that. Additionally, the quicker time to throw as an offensive philosophical shift will help slow down the impact of the Saints pass rush group. Allowing the QB to think and play fast also protects the OL. When you have an OL as talented as the Eagles that can go a long way to having success. I would expect the Eagles to continue with what they have been doing while ensuring they eliminate Cameron Jordan from the equation. He's their best defensive player and pass rusher; minimizing his impact can help control the game. It won't be an easy task but it is the smart one. The OL just needs to make sure it accounts for the other rushers as well.
[Game Preview] Week 11 - Philadelphia Eagles(4-5) at New Orleans Saints(8-1)
Philadelphia Eagles (4-5) at New Orleans Saints 8-1)
Even a bye week and trade deadline move wasn’t enough to cure the Eagles Super Bowl hangover. The Eagles came out flat against their division rival in a must win game in a performance that was just unacceptable. The Eagles luck doesn’t look like it will improve this week as they travel to New Orleans to take on the red hot Saints who just blew out the 5-4 Bengals. The Eagles lost number one CB Ronald Darby last week, which could be huge as they take on one of, if not the best QB/WR combo in the league in Drew Brees and Michael Thomas. Sidney Jones practiced fully this week and looks to make his return to help try to contain Thomas. That reinforcement along with the return of Timmy Jernigan from the NFI list should help bolster the defense, but the job is still a tough one. The Saints’ offense is ranked top 10 in nearly every category and hold the number one scoring offense averaging 36.7 points per game, that's over 2 TDs what the Eagles are averaging this season. The Eagles defense will need to be better this week especially against the run where they have struggled of late, they will have their hands full though with the 1-2 punch of Kamara and Ingram. While the Saints offense is running on all cylinders, the wheels fell of a defense that was dominant a year ago. The Saints give up 296.1 yards through the air this seasons which is good for 2nd worse just ahead of the Bengals. Wentz should be able to move the ball against the Saints secondary, especially with Tate having another week to learn the offense getting in sync with the team. If the Eagles defense can slow down the Saints a little, the Eagles may have a chance in a shootout.

Eagles 39 - Saints 17
The Saints took an early 7-0 in the 1st quarter as Drew Brees connected with Ben Watson in endzone for a 6 yard TD on a drive that started after Sam Bradford threw an INT in the redzone. The Eagles answered on the following possession with a 41 yard TD pass from Bradford to Huff. The Eagles would add 3 more TDs and 4 FGs to the Saints 10 points to seal the victory in a game Sam Bradford was able to overcome not one, but two redzone INTs to throw for 333 yards and 2 TDs. Both Demarco Murray and Ryan Mathews added touchdowns on the ground as the Eagles won in a route 39-17.
The Eagles (3-5) lost their fourth straight, which is sure to keep the heat on Vick and embattled coach Andy Reid. Vick threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to DeSean Jackson in the third quarter, but that was about the only highlight for the visiting team. Vick took a beating and was sacked 7 times while also throwing an INT that was returned 99 yards for a TD to start off the scoring for the Saints who won 28-13 with Drew Brees extending his record TD streak to 51 games.
Eagles - Video The bye week was not able to help the struggling Eagles who failed to show up again, this time against the division rival Cowboys. The Eagles offense failed to execute until late in the 3rd quarter, which is around the same time the wheels fell off on the defense which collapsed again in the 4th quarter giving up two TDs as the Eagles fell to their division rival. Zeke Elliott had 151 yards rushing and his go-ahead 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter helped the Dallas Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-20 on Sunday night
Saints - Video – Brees led the Saints to touchdowns on all five first-half possessions with a nearly perfect performance. His 17-yard TD to Michael Thomas with 2 seconds left in the half gave him 509 career touchdown passes, one more than Brett Favre on the all-time list. Brees had his way with the Bengals' historically bad defense, which became first team in the Super Bowl era to give up 500 yards in three consecutive games. Saints’ defense which has struggled held the Bengals in check who were missing All-Pro WR AJ Green with a toe injury.

Eagles DE Fletcher Cox (38 - 7th) needs 1.5 sacks to move into a tie for 6th all-time on the Eagles sack list with DE Brandon Graham and DT Andy Harmon.
Eagles S Malcolm Jenkins's (4) needs 1 more Interception for a TD to tie CB Eric Allen (5) for most Interceptions for a TD by an Eagles player.
Saints DE Cameron Jordan (65.5) needs 2 sacks to move into a tie for 4th on the Staints all-time sack list with LB Will Smith.
Saints WR Michael Thomas (21) to move up to 10th on the Saints all-time receiving TD list tying WR Donte Stallworth.
Saints RB Alvin Kamara (19) needs 2 rushing TDs to move up 9th on the Saints all-time rushing TD list tying RB Mario Bates.
Saints RB Alvin Kamara (1274) needs 34 rushing yards to move 20th on the Saints all-time rushing list moving ahead of RB Chris Ivory, with 78 yards he will pass RB Ray Zellers to move up to 19th, with 85 yards he will move up to 18th passing RB **Hokie Gajan with 110 yards he will move up to 17th passing RB Derek Brown and with 137 yards he will move up to 16th passing QB Aaron Brooks.

Let's face facts here: the Eagles backs are against the wall and the defense is too banged up to have a lot of faith in at the moment. Given the Saints have one of the best offenses in football with Drew Brees at the helm, the Eagles offense is going to have to score some points and return to 2017 form to have their best chance to win. It always starts up front with the Eagles good offensive line that is banged up against the relatively underrated Saints defensive front. Fortunately for the Eagles, the Saints will be without rookie Marcus Davenport in this game as he is nursing an injury. He's been pretty good in his rookie season and helps Cameron Jordan. Oh, that's right, the Saints have an elite edge rusher in Cameron Jordan. Jordan is versatile and will line up all over the formation; the Saints defensive staff has to be drooling with the chance to line him up across from Big V if Lane is unable to go. Jordan is extremely disruptive and will give all 5 members of the Eagles offensive line a run for the money. Be careful not to overlook IDL Sheldon Rankins. The 2016 1st round pick of the Saints is healthy and kicking ass along the interior for the Saints. He's a very formidable interior rusher and will give the IOL of the Eagles a significant challenge. The Saints are very good against the run which is irrelevant since the Eagles struggle to run with their practice squad RBs. However, if the Eagles can control the Saints pass rush opportunities should be open for them through the air as the Saints have a very suspect pass defense.
Eagles Passing Game vs. Saints Pass Defense
The "Run the Ball, Doug" crowd will be triggered at this matchup listing but the fact is the Eagles best chance to keep up with the Saints and possibly win is to execute their passing offense at the level we expect but haven't consistently seen this season. The Saints do have two very good young players in their secondary in Marcus Williams and Marcus Lattimore. Neither are perfect and will occasionally blow plays down the sidelines against the Vikings shattering their hopes and dreams but they are very formidable. Lattimore is an excellent athlete and will line up in press with regularity. It'll be up to the Eagles receivers to win their 1v1 matchups when they present themselves. Eagles hero Patrick Robinson is on IR for the Saints leaving a big hole for PJ Williams to struggle to fill; Nelson Agholor and Saints killer Golden Tate should be able to make plays against Williams. The Saints traded for Eli Apple at the deadline and he's an upgrade over Ken Crawley which is still insignificant since Crawley ain't good. Zach Ertz has proven he can get open versus anyone and the Eagles still have Dallas Goedert to throw in as well. Point being: the Eagles have the weapons to shred the Saints through the air. They also have the QB to pick them apart as well. Lastly, they still have the coaching to maximize the talent they have on the field to pick the Saints apart. The Eagles cannot afford to have yet another game where they putz around on offense or else they will get buried with their ass facing the sky. The opportunity is ripe for the Eagles despite some of the players the Saints have on defense.
Eagles Defensive Line vs Saints Offensive Line
Assuming perfect health for both teams this matchup would be one of the marquee matchups you'll see in the NFL along the trenches. Under Sean Payton, the Saints have always had a great offensive line and this year they've played best in the NFL. All 5 members of the OL are very good in pass protection which allows Drew Brees to do whatever he wants when he is on the field. Second year pro Ryan Ramczyk is having an All-Pro caliber season at RT and they'll need him to maintain that level of play in this contest without likely All-Pro LT Terron Armstead. Armstead will be out the next couple of games for the Saints as he nurses yet another injury. He has been the best tackle in football regardless of side and one of the best offensive linemen in general in 2018 so his loss should be felt. Max Unger captains the Center position for the Saints; he's a lot like Jason Kelce in that he is good in space and a good pass blocker. Andrus Peat is rated as the worst OG in the NFL per PFF which shows you how many grains of salt you should put in PFFs rankings. Larry Warford mans the other OG position for the Saints. Jermon Bushrod will play LT in Armstead's place. Bushrod is a solid depth tackle but is a big step down from Armstead so the opportunity will be present for the Eagles DL in this contest. The Eagles DL as a unit is still one of the best in the NFL this year but isn't as deep as it was due to injury which limits how much of a force they can be without the rotation. Additionally, the Eagles have been getting next to nothing out of their second DT position next to Fletcher Cox. Ngata is solid as a role player but doesn't have the juice as a rusher in the role the Eagles need from him. The Eagles have yet to activate Timmy Jernigan from NFI; it would be a big boost for the DL if Jernigan is able to play.
Eagles Secondary vs Saints Passing Offense
What's there to say about this matchup? The Saints have always had one of the best offenses in the NFL with Drew Brees and Sean Payton around and they've somehow managed to be even better this season. Michael Thomas is an elite WR that's almost impossible for even the best DBs to cover. Alvin Kamara is an elite play-making weapon who is great as a runner and receiver with some of the best contact balance you'll ever see in a player. Mark Ingram is a very good running back and provides the Saints with a very formidable 1-2 punch out of the backfield. Throw in Drew Brees and the Saints are able to do whatever they want on offense - which isn't an exaggeration. The Eagles enter this contest depleted with injury with the secondary bearing the brunt of that pain. Second year CB Sidney Jones is expected to make his return for the Eagles this week and that is welcome news. Jones has been manning the slot for the Eagles this year but with Darby now on IR and Mills out for this game, will the Eagles give Jones a shot to play outside CB? Rasul Douglas was pretty ineffective in his first start this season against Dallas and will get the start again. Rookie Avonte Maddox seems to have played every position in the secondary for the Eagles this year and is a very good young player. However he is still a rookie; the Eagles are asking a lot from him out of necessity. Can he continue to be an effective player? Malcolm Jenkins is nursing a hand injury now too. And who the hell will be the 3rd CB for the Eagles? Corey Graham is so freaking useless but the Eagles are so depleted they need to play him and hope he doesn't suck - which he will because he does in fact suck. Eagles fans that want Schwartz fired now are dumb despite some relevant criticisms at times. What is he supposed to do with the circus he has available on the back end? Last week’s game plan against Dallas was very creative and effective but the wheels feel off once Darby exited the game. That's not too surprising when you have to lean on rookie UDFA Chandon Sullivan. Jim Schwartz is going to have to call the game of his life on Sunday and hope that for once his players find a way not to fail in executing concepts that have set them up for success. It's a tall order against this Saints offense. Somehow, the Eagles defense has not let up more than 30 points this season; if they can miraculously do that this Sunday the Eagles will have a shot.
As we approach the Super Bowl let's make fun of the teams that didn't make the playoffs Dolphins: This has got to be the most memorable 5-11 team in NFL history. Name me another 5-11 team that has been mentioned more often. Giving away every player worth a damn and watching them do much better on their new teams, looking like an FCS team playing against Clemson every week for the first few weeks, looking like 1 win was your ceiling only to mess up your tank and get 5 wins include somehow spoiling the Pats 1st round bye hopes in New England (which was so enjoyable btw). Jets: A soft-schedule aided 6-2 finish down the stretch can't cover up what a stench you were. Adam Gase being a disaster, paying well above market price for Le'Veon Bell then watching him waste away, Sam Darnold seeing ghosts, the Keleche Osemele disaster, 7-9 doesn't adequately describe what a disaster this team was. Do yourselves a favor and fire Adam Gase and replace him with a real head coach Bengals: You saw the Browns be the worst team in football for a long while, now watch as their cross-state rivals become the worst. Yes, somehow your new head coach you hired for being in the same room was worse than Marvin Lewis. Hey at least you get the 1st overall pick and the opportunity to destroy Joe Burrow's career Browns: Look at all that talent, now look at all that talent get completely wasted on an incompetent franchise. They assembled an all-star cast yet somehow they are still one of the biggest laughing stocks in sports. Freddie Kitchens was beyond incompetent, OBJ likely wants out, Baker spends more time talking than playing, and Myles Garrett decided to be a complete idiot and is indefinitely suspended. Congratulations on being a total trainwreck Steelers: That defense that was utter garbage finally returned to an elite unit with stars such as TJ Watt and newly acquired Minkah Fitzpatrick right from the Dolphins fire sale, right in time for the offense to become a trainwreck. AB forces his way out and the receiving corp becomes a college level corp, Munchak leaves and the offensive line decays into shambles, then Big Ben suffers a shoulder injury leaving them with 2 young backup quality QBs and for his puppet to actually be an offensive coordinator and not say yes to Ben. Let's just say it was hard to watch. Their 3 best offensive players ended up being TJ, Minkah and Devin Bush and the team paid the price. At least Le'Veon sitting out 2018 backfired, right? Colts: Your season ended when Andrew Luck retired and Jacoby Brisset is not a franchise QB. Those close wins were just cockteasing Jaguars: Turns out Big Dick Nick is a below average QB without Doug Pederson. The Gardner Minshew hype train was fun for about 2 months but unsurprisingly turns out he isn't the answer either Broncos: Since Peyton retired, this team has just been one indistinguishable continuation of forgettable seasons, boring offenses, poor QBs, and the wasting of the rest of Von Miller's career. It's hard to tell where one season ends and the next begins at this point. Seriously this team is so uninteresting they're not worth talking about Raiders: You got Antonio Brown, then he used you guys to bitch his way onto New England. You got Vontaze and he finally got his deserving punishment. You got Richie Incognito and he surprisingly wasn't an idiot. You had a farewell season in Oakland before moving to the Sin City. Oh and there was a football season where you rode a series of close wins to 6-4 before collapsing. Chargers: Injuries and a rapidly decaying Phillip Rivers torpedoed this team from 12-4 and the divisional round to 5-11. Oh and your soccer stadium is still being filled with other teams' fanbases. Phillip Rivers looks like he is on his way out, at this point your best bet is trying to convince the decaying Tom Brady to join in hopes of filling the stadium seats with something other than the other teams fans. Cowboys: They went 8-8 and missed the playoffs, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS! Giants: Do us all a favor and trade Saquon before you waste his career and he retires Redskins: You guys are a disgrace to football. Snyder may be the worst owner in sports, this team is a trainwreck, no one wants to see this team, and then there is that whole thing with Trent Williams. At least you fired Bruce Allen, the culture still damn good Bruce? Bears: What a shame. One of the best defenses in the league wasted on one of the worst QBs in the league. Conglaturations on passing on a potential dynasty by taking Mitch Trubisky instead of Mahomes. And you gave away 4 picks to trade up 1 spot to do it. And you gave those picks to the 49ers who are in Super Bowl right now. Lions: Congratulations, you've gone from being thoroughly forgettable under Jim Caldwell to being a trainwreck under Matt Patricia. You also had your worst season since 2009. You may have been boned by the refs a couple times but you did yourselves on favors. At this point bargain bin version of the Patriots would be an improvement. Falcons: What a failure of a season this was. Going 1-7 with that much talent and then with a potential top 5 draft pick in sight they then decide to show off their talent going 6-2 and pissing away a top pick. I tell you this team can't do anything right. Enjoy watching Kyle Shanahan in the Super Bowl Panthers: Remember when this team was 5-3 and in wildcard contention? Of course you don't, no one does. And now Luke Keuchly has retired. Congratulations, you wasted the entire career of the best ILB of this decade. Can't wait for Run CMC to retire after the 2024 season with barely any team success. Bucs: The story of this season was Jameis Winston. Over 5,000 yards and over 30 TDs, only to negate it with 30 INTs, the last of which ended their season in an OT loss to the Falcons. Also doesn't help that even with the NFL's sack leader your defense is still a black hole that can be moved upon without resistance Cardinals: At least Kyler Murray made you somewhat watchable this year Rams: What a trainwreck. This team never recovered from 13-3, Jared Goff returned to 2016 form, Todd Gurley is declining, Sean McVay looked ordinary, you gave away Marcus Peters so you could give up a king's ransom to get Jalen Ramsey and then watched Peters outperform Ramsey dramatically, you wasted another year of Aaron Donald's prime, you surrendered 55 points at home to the Bucs, oh and to say you were entering cap hell would be considered sugar coating. At least you didn't go 7-9 am I right?

The facility is the oldest football stadium in the Big 12 Conference and one of the oldest on-campus college football stadiums in the country, but was neglected and enjoyed few renovations throughout its existence. Then a wealthy alumnus aided in an effort to revamp the rusting stadium. The renovated stadium reopened in 2009 for the Cowboy’s game against Georgia. Fiesta Bowl 2012: This was the first (and only) BCS game the Cowboys have ever made it to. It was a back and forth battle between stars Andrew Luck and the Brandon Weeden/Justin Blackmon duo. However it was on the last drive of the game by Stanford where the game was seemingly going to be decided. Luck could not be stopped and led them down the field, but was stopped with around fifty seconds left and only twenty or so yards to go. They then run the clock down to three seconds and send their kicker, a freshman, to seal the deal. However after he is iced (by our one remaining timeout) he shanks the kick, sending the game into overtime. In overtime Stanford is shut down offensively and sends the freshman kicker out for a small shot at redemption. He misses yet again. Only needing a field goal to win the game, the Cowboys send the offense out to win it. The offense sputters to a third and long, but an unlikely hero steps up on that next play. Former walk-on Brandon Weeden throws a bullet to former walk-on Colton Chelf (brother of the backup QB), coming up a half-yard short of a touchdown. Quinn Sharp kicks in the short field goal and the Cowboys win their first ever BCS bowl game. Brandon Weeden also scored his only rushing touchdown of his career in this game.
2001 Bedlam: This game probably helped set forth all of the changes made in OSU Football in recent years. The Sooners came into the game undefeated and attempting to make it back to the National Championship game (which they won the year prior). OSU however was a measly 3-7 on the season. It was a back and forth game for a while, but with OU leading OSU 13-9, OSU dialed up a play to the best OSU receiver, Rashaun Woods. With 1:36 left on the clock OSU QB Josh Fields chucked it to Woods at the side of the end zone, Woods caught it and had two feet in bounds vaulting OSU into the lead. OU attempts a shot at the end zone afterwards, but OSU comes up with the interception to seal the victory.
2008 Mizzou: I consider this one of our greater games because it was one of our best road wins ever. Missouri was ranked as one of the top 3 teams in the country. Jeremy Maclin and Chase Daniel hadn’t been held to a three and out all season to that point. But OSU held them to one on their first drive. Another back and forth game, OSU took the lead for good with two touchdowns to rarely used WR Damian Davis. OSU won 28-23.
Greatest Plays:
Brodrick Brown/Sean Lewis INT: This interception occurred during the Bedlam game of 2010. Essentially it was the Big 12 South division championship game. It determined who went to the Conference Championship game. OU ended up winning, but there were some crazy things that happened in the game. One of which was this interception by Sean Lewis. As you can see in the video Landry Jones is attempting to throw the ball out of bounds and Brodrick Brown, a 5’9” (that’s being generous) cornerback leaps into the air and knocks the ball back in bounds to the unsuspecting, but still waiting arms of linebacker Shaun Lewis. One of the better parts of the play (for me) was seeing a stunned Ryan Broyles get demolished at the end of the play by a defensive lineman. Interception
Colton Chelf: Walk-on to Fiesta Bowl hero. It looked to everyone like he had scored the touchdown sealing the win, but was ruled half a yard short of the endzone. Still this is one of the biggest plays in OSU history. Honorable mention could go to Justin Blackmon’s catch on fourth and five in the fourth quarter to set up a touchdown that was necessary to tie the game. The Catch
Bedlam 2001: Josh Fields to Rashaun Woods: The beginning
Greatest Players:
Bob Fenimore: Known as the "Blond Bomber," Fenimore led Oklahoma State, known as Oklahoma A&M during his playing days, to new heights. His accomplishments included an undefeated season and a final AP ranking of No. 5. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1972. Fenimore was also recently inducted into the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame.
Barry Sanders: Sanders, whose 1988 season remains the greatest in NCAA history, rewrote school, conference and NCAA record books in his three-year career at OSU. ESPN recently selected Sanders as the second-best player in college football history. Sanders finished the season with 373 rushes for 2,850 yards (7.6 yards per carry) and 44 total touchdowns. Four games with 4 touchdowns and three games with 5. In addition to total rushing yards, Sanders set 33 other NCAA record in 1988, including Most TDs (39) and most rushing TDs (37), Most points scored (234), Most 300+ yard games in a season/career (4), Most all-purpose yards in a season (3,249), and per-game (295.5; this record was 50 years old) NOTE: His 5 rushing TDs in the bowl game are not counted by the NCAA.
Thurman Thomas: The all-time leading rusher in Cowboy history and one of OSU's all-time fan favorites. A two-time Big Eight Conference player of the year, Thomas is also a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Thomas led Oklahoma State in rushing for four-straight seasons and ended his career with 44 touchdowns and 4,595 rushing yards. He was ahead of Barry Sanders for two years. Supposedly Sooner coach Barry Switzer told his players in a game against OSU, whatever they did not to injure the starting running back for OSU because he didn’t want to face the backup (Barry Sanders).
Justin Blackmon: Blackmon was one of the most dominating receivers in his three years at OSU. Two of those seasons he won the Biletnikoff award for being the best receiver in the nation.
Greatest Coaches:
Mike Gundy: Gundy has won the most games at OSU than any other football coach. With a 67-35 record he can easily be considered the best coach in OSU history. Despite an 18-19 start his teams have become a part of the upper echelon of the Big 12 and a staple of the Top 25 in all of college football. He has led OSU to its only Big 12 championship, its only BCS game/win, and a 5-2 record in bowl games. He is best known for his rant. While the media bashed him for this, many recruits and their families have said this aided in their decision to play for him.
Jim Lookabaugh: Head football coach at Oklahoma A & M from 1939-1949, led his teams to three bowl championships (1945 Cotton Bowl, 1946 Sugar Bowl and 1948 Delta Bowl) and produced All-Americans such as Bob Fenimore and Neill Armstrong. Under his guidance, his 1945 team was the only undefeated team in the school’s history. He won 58 games, only being surpassed recently by Mike Gundy, and in the late eighties by Pat Jones.
Pappy Waldorf: During his five years in Stillwater, OSU claimed four conference championships and carved out a 3-0-2 record against state rival Oklahoma. Waldorf would end his career at the University of California with multiple Rose Bowl appearances. Waldorf is the only coach in OSU history to be undefeated against the Sooners.
Greatest Rivalries:
Oklahoma: The first Bedlam game was held at Island Park in Guthrie, Oklahoma. It was a cold and very windy day with the temperatures well below the freezing mark. At one moment in the game when the Oklahoma A&M Aggies were punting, the wind carried the ball backwards behind the kicker. If the Oklahoma A&M squad recovered the ball it would be a touchback and if the University of Oklahoma squad recovered it, it would be a touchdown. The ball kept going backwards and rolled down a hill into the half-frozen creek. Since a touchdown was at stake, members of both teams dove into the icy waters to recover the ball. A member of the OU team came out with the ball and downed it for a touchdown, eventually winning the game 75–0. Thus was the beginning of the Bedlam series. Author Steve Budin, whose father was a New York bookie, has recently publicized the claim that the 1954 "Bedlam" game against rival OU was fixed by mobsters in his book Bets, Drugs, and Rock & Roll. Allegedly, the mobsters threatened and paid off a cook to slip laxatives into a soup eaten by many OU Sooner starting players, causing them to fall violently ill in the days leading up to the game. OU was victorious in the end, but their 14–0 win did not cover the 20-point spread they had in their favor. However, many people involved in the 1954 contest do not recall any incident like the one purported by Budin to have occurred. The University of Oklahoma leads the Bedlam Series in football 83–17–7. Despite the series record, Bedlam in recent years has become an important game in the national scene. But the games in recent years have also been fairly close and highly entertaining games to watch.
Tulsa: The all-time series has Oklahoma State leading 40–27-5, winning the most recent match up in 2011, 59-33. Since 1990 Tulsa is 3-9 versus Oklahoma State with the Cowboys scoring at least 36 points in each of the last four contests. The Cowboys have a twenty game home winning streak against Tulsa. The last time Tulsa won in Stillwater was 1951.
The Walk - The night before the football game the team stays at the Atherton Hotel at the Student Union. On game day 2 hours before kickoff the team walks to Boone Pickens Stadium surrounded by 10,000 plus fans.
Bullet and the Spirit Rider - Bullet leads the spirit walk before ever football game and runs the length of the field after ever touchdown
OSU Alma Mater Hymn - After every game at Boone Pickens Stadium, OSU players and coaches gather in front of the student section in the northwest corner of the stadium and sing the alma mater. All fans, students and non-students are encouraged to remain in the stands after OSU victories and join the Cowboys for the Alma Mater hymn.
America’s Greatest Homecoming - Greater than 50,000 alumni visit Stillwater every year for weekend long festivities.
Paddle People - In the student section, students on the front row carry big, black and orange paddles which they slap against the padding on the walls to make noise at the games.

Eskimo Joe’s: The restaurant, also called "Stillwater's Jumpin' Little Juke Joint," occupies a two story building with a unique atrium dubbed the "Joe Dome" featuring a retractable glass roof, built in 1992. Eskimo Joe's is a popular hang-out for OSU students and is located across the street from the main campus. It is an extended part of "The Strip," a hang-out zone of bars centered around Washington Street, and often features concerts and other late-night attractions for the college drinking scene, such as Ladies Night or Coin Beer. In 2005, Sports Illustrated's on-line magazine, SI on Campus, named Eskimo Joe's the third best collegiate sports bar in the U.S. In 1990, during his commencement speech, President George H. W. Bush endorsed Eskimo Joe's cheese fries. In 2006, during his commencement speech, President George W. Bush followed his father's footsteps and also mentioned both the restaurant and the cheese fries. The restaurant was mentioned by Jimmy Fallon on October 6, 2009 after visiting the establishment for Orange Peel 2009.
Hideaway: Hideaway Pizza started in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1957. Hideaway’s Big Country (named after Bryant Reeves, a former OSU and NBA player) was chosen by the food network to represent Oklahoma in their fifty pizzas in fifty states article.
The Stonewall Tavern: Named after Stonewall Jackson, this bar is one of the best bars to go to in Stillwater. I should mention that every bar in Stillwater except Finnegan’s and Eskimo Joe’s are smoker friendly.
Other bars: JR Murphy’s, Willie’s Saloon, College Bar, Finnegan’s, The Copper Penny, Outlaws, and the Crosseyed Cricket Saloon.

What Is and What is to Come An incredible amount of hype brought us into the 2012 season following what was the greatest season in Oklahoma State history following an 11-1 record, a Big 12 Championship, and a Fiesta Bowl win over Stanford The departure of quarterback Brandon Weedon and wide receiver Justin Blackmon to the NFL draft left large shoes to fill. The initial loss to Arizona in the second game of the season brought everybody back to reality in a rather sobering fashion. We had a rather significant quarterback battle between sophomore Clint Chelf, and two highly touted freshmen in JW Walsh and Wes Lunt. In the end coach Mike Gundy chose a rotation of the three leaving all three quarterbacks with over 1000 yards passing for the season. This also may have caused the quarterbacks to never really find a groove. The team finished 8-5 for the season with several very close losses against Texas, Kansas State, Baylor and Oklahoma. Three of their 5 losses were by less than a touchdown. The quarterback battle for this season has yet to be decided but it appears Wes Lunt was not chosen and has since decided to transfer out of the Oklahoma State football season. Returning two reasonably experienced quarterbacks and a large part of the receiving corps should leave Oklahoma State able to compete with the rest of its Big 12 competitors. The first game of the 2013 season is against Mississippi State, an SEC team, in the Texas Kickoff Classic. True freshman Devonte Fields stepped in to become the Big 12 defensive player of the year, finishing with 10 sacks. In a rainy game ongoing monsoon during TCU’s game against rival SMU, he posted 7 tackles, 4 for loss, and 2.5 sacks.
Redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin filled some big shoes when quarterback Casey Pachall was suspended for the season after being arrested on suspicion of DUI. At the time, Pachall had the highest QBR in football. Boykin was taking reps as a running back two days before start against Iowa State. He struggled at times, but managed to lead the team to wins against Baylor, West Virginia, and Texas (all on the road).
Josh Boyce seemed to be the only consistent offensive threat for the Frogs. The wide receiver was limited due to the quarterback situation, but the junior broke most of the career receiving records at TCU on his way to another great season. He would have broken more, but decided to declare for the NFL Draft. He was picked up in the 4th round by the New England Patriots and signed a 4 yea$2.6 million deal.
In the same game, Trevone Boykin secures his fame at TCU by going 13-13 in passing on third down plays, including four TDs, and rushes for one too.
Down a touchdown to WVU late in the 4th quarter, Trevone Boykin avoided a safety and connected with Josh Boyce, who went 94 yards to tie the game for the Horned Frogs.
Later in the game, after scoring in the second overtime, Coach Patterson decides to use his famous brass balls (if you ever wondered why he’s always adjusting his pants) and go for the 2-point conversion to win the game. On the same exact play that beat Boise State in 2011, Trevone Boykin scrambled right to find Josh Boyce for the win.
With 1:37 left against Texas and the Longhorns at midfield, Case McCoy made a poor throw into traffic and was intercepted by Sam Carter to seal a win in Austin and make the Frogs bowl-eligible for the 14th time in 15 years. 2013 Season
Led by legendary quarterback Davey O'Brien (the guy the QB award is named after), TCU beat Carnegie Tech in the 1939 Sugar Bowl. It gave the Frogs their first consensus national championship (they also share claim to the 1935 title).
In the 1957 Cotton Bowl Classic, the underdog Horned Frogs blocked an extra point to beat the Jim Brown-led Syracuse Orange 28-27.
In a 52-24 rout of UTEP in 1999, LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for an NCAA record 406 yards and six touchdowns. His quote after the game: "All the credit goes to the offensive line. They've done a great job of creating holes all season," Tomlinson said. "I need to buy them a couple of steaks."
In 2010, BCS busters collided when No. 3 TCU traveled to Salt Lake City to take on the No. 5 Utah Utes. With a Mountain West Conference title and BCS dreams on the line, fans camping out for ESPN GameDay, and fans paying upwards of $200 for standing-room tickets, it was the biggest game in the conference's history. It turned out to be an embarrassment for the Utes. The Frogs dominated Utah in every way, snapping Utah's 21-game home winning streak in a 47-7 win on the road.
In Casey Pachall's first start, TCU traveled down to Waco for a Big 12 preview against Baylor in 2011. Robert Griffin III looked Heisman-worthy in jumping out to a huge 47-24 lead entering the 4th quarter. Pachall led the Frogs to an astonishing comeback, scoring 25 points in less than 11 minutes to give the Frogs the lead. With their back against the wall on a 3rd and 10, Baylor used a trick play and receiver Kendall Wright connected on a 15 yard pass to the quarterback. The Bears' drive continued and set up the go-ahead field goal with 1:04 left to play. Pachall wasn't done, either. The Frogs got the ball on their own 14, and marched down to the Baylor 40-yard line. Pachall's late interception on 3rd and 10 denied TCU's chance at a game-winning field goal.
After its first undefeated season in the BCS era, TCU made it to the 2011 Fiesta Bowl against fellow BCS buster Boise State. Trick plays would spell doom for the Frogs however, as TCU would fall 17-10 in the desert.
After an undefeated season, TCU was left out of the BCS Championship due to undefeated Auburn and Oregon teams and sent to the Rose Bowl against Wisconsin. The Badgers were averaging 67 points over their last three games, but the Frogs were coming in with the nation's top defense. Needing a 2-point conversion to tie with exactly 2:00 left, Tank Carder's immaculate deflection eventually gave the Horned Frogs its first BCS win and an undefeated season.
Greatest Players: "Slingin'" Sammy Baugh: The Sweetwater six-shooter became the weapon of choice in the first primarily passing attack in college football. Teams had thrown the ball long before Baugh, but it was mostly used as a surprise. Coach Dutch Meyer and Baugh perfected the downfield pass, and Baugh would later be instrumental in making the forward pass part of the NFL playbook. He was also the team's starting punter and defensive back. Did I mention he also played baseball for TCU, and was in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system before being drafted by the Washington Redskins? When asked about being drafted he said: "I didn't know what they were talking about, because frankly, I had never heard of either the draft or the Washington Redskins." Oh yeah, he also took up acting in a 12-week series called "King of the Texas Rangers". In the NFL, he retired with the record for the most seasons leading the league in passing (6, which still stands, tied with Steve Young), and highest career punting average (45.1, which is second all-time behind Shane Lechler). Davey O'Brien: TCU's lone Heisman winner, first Heisman winner from the Southwest Conference and namesake to the award given to the best quarterback in collegiate football came to TCU as Baugh's backup in 1935. He still holds the NCAA record for most combined passing and rushing plays in a single season - 400. The 1938 O'Brien-led Horned Frogs outscored opponents 269-60, and held all but one of their 10 regular season opponents to seven points or less. In 1939, he went on to lead the NFL in passing his rookie year, breaking Sammy Baugh's standing single-season record. He did so again in 1940, then retired to become an FBI agent. Jim Swink: The Rusk Rambler was one of the best running backs in Southwest Conference history, leading the Frogs to consecutive conference championships in 1955 and 1956. His most memorable game came in a 47-20 win over the Texas Longhorns in Austin. He rushed for 235 yards and scored 26 points. Bob Lilly: Known more for his 11 Pro Bowl seasons with the Dallas Cowboys' "doomsday defense", Lilly was a dominant defensive lineman and consensus All-American for the Horned Frogs. He is now considered among the best defensive linemen in NFL history. LaDainian Tomlinson: Holds the NCAA single-game rushing record with 406 against UTEP in 1999. Didn't play running back until his senior year of high school. He won the 2000 Doak Walker Award and Jim Brown Trophy before being the 5th selection in the 2001 NFL Draft. Andy Dalton: Nicknamed the "Red Rifle" by Bengals fans (how did we never think of that?), Dalton took over the starting spot as a redshirt freshman and led the Frogs to an 8-5 season and 2007 Texas Bowl win. From then on, Dalton's Frogs went 34-3 with losses to then-No. 2 Oklahoma (eventual BCS runner up) and No. 10 Utah (13-0 with Sugar Bowl win over Bama) in 2008 and No. 3 Boise State in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl. He is the Mountain West Conference career leader in total offense and holds most TCU career passing records. High points include completing 21-23 passes in a 45-10 domination of then-junior Robert Griffin III's Baylor Bears in 2010, completing 21-26 for 355 yards and 3 TD in a 47-7 beating of then-No. 5 Utah in Salt Lake City, and in his final game, beat Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. Greatest Coaches:
Gary Patterson: GMFP, as he’s well-known as in Fort Worth, is a staunch advocate of the 4-2-5 defense and is regarded as one of the greatest defensive minds in modern college football. TCU has led the nation in total defense more times (5) than any team since the NCAA started tracking statistics in 1937 and last year led the Big 12 in defense, despite having only one senior in the starting lineup. All five seasons have come under Gary Patterson since 2000. He is winningest coach in school history with a 116-36 (72-23) record as head coach, and has only failed to make a bowl game once (2004). Thanks to the revolving conference door, he has coached the Frogs in bowl games as a member of four different conferences (WAC, CUSA, MWC and Big 12). Aside from coaching, he's also a pretty good guitar player!
Dutch Meyer: Dutch's famous quote, "Fight 'em until hell freezes over. Then fight 'em on the ice!", can be seen on locker room walls, t-shirts, and of course, above the entryway to the back dining room at Dutch's Hamburgers -- a mainstay across from TCU's campus named after the legendary coach and home of the best hamburger buns in the world. Both TCU national championships came under Dutch. He revolutionized football by incorporating the short pass as the primary play in the offense, and is one of the early inventors of the spread formation. He retired from football in 1952 to become athletic director. In 1956, without someone to fill the position, he decided to also coach the baseball team, leading the Frogs to a SWC championship that year. In 1934, "Old Iron Pants" served as TCU's football, baseball, and basketball coach.
Jim Pittman: More a fun trivial fact than “great coach,” Pittman coached only seven games for TCU before dying of a heart attack on the field during a game against Baylor in Waco in 1971.
Greatest Rivalries: SMU (45-40-7) The rivalry started in 1915 with a 43-0 TCU win, and has continued to this day for all but six years (two of which were SMU's death penalty years). According to legend, The "Battle for the Iron Skillet" name started when SMU fans were frying frog legs before a game. A TCU fan bet the frog legs -- and the skillet -- on the game. TCU would win the game. The trophy is currently at Amon G. Carter Stadium after last year's monsoon-ish 24-16 victory. The rivalry has gone through lopsided streaks, with TCU going 14-2-1 between 1949-1965, then SMU going 19-2 between 1966-1986. The Frogs have won every game since 1999 except for a painful 21-10 loss in 2005 (it was TCU's only loss of the season after beating Adrian Peterson's No. 5 Sooners) and a home overtime loss in 2011. Baylor (51-50-7) From 1899, when TCU was still located in Waco (until a "mysterious fire" burned down the campus in 1910) until the SWC disbanded in 1995, TCU and Baylor played each other 103 times. It is one of the oldest and most-played rivalries in football. Like the SMU rivalry, both teams enjoyed streaks, with TCU dominating most of the 50's and 60's, and Baylor taking most of the 70's and 80's. Now the only private schools in the Big 12, the rivalry is coming back to its form as TCU is 2-1 against Baylor in the past three years. Others Thanks to TCU's entrance in the Big 12, the Frogs have renewed old rivalries with SWC foes Texas and Texas Tech. TCU beat Texas 20-13 in front of the largest crowd the Frogs had ever played in front of (99,950 attended) and lost to Tech 56-53 in a triple OT thriller. TCU also had a number of minor rivalries in the Mountain West, including BYU and BCS busters Utah & Boise State. ESPN College Gameday came to the last two matchups between Utah and TCU, and Boise State has provided TCU with some great contests as well. If given the right amount of time, TCU could have developed into some serious hate with these three schools. Traditions
Riff Ram Bah Zoo -- shown in this video by some older alumni -- is one of the oldest cheers in football, unchanged since the early 1920's. * Frog Horn -- TCU has a large horn, painted in the form of a purple Horned Frog. A large train horn is mounted to it and blares whenever the Frogs enter the field or score.
Bleacher Creatures -- Before every game, kids can go onto the field and run out with the team at the team entrance. Founded in 2001 by Gary Patterson, DT David Johnson holds the distinction of becoming the first player to play for TCU after running with the Bleacher Creatures as a child.
I Won’t Back Down -- At the beginning of every fourth quarter, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 1989 classic plays over the loudspeakers with accompanying highlights. Tom Petty is one of Patterson’s all-time favorite performers.
Fear The Frog flag -- A new tradition made during TCU’s debut Big 12 season, a giant flag is waved after a substantial play.
Campus and Surrounding Area City Population: 777,992 (16th) City Skyline Iconic Campus Building:
Campus Commons. Nothing in this picture existed before 2007. It's part of a huge building and renovation phase for the university (TCU is often joked as Texas Construction University) - now totaling more than $1 billion since 2007.
Robert Carr Chapel. The tallest building on campus (just inches taller than the football stadium, the old joke going "Texas: Where God is just barely above football"). Tour guides tell visiting students to book their wedding then, as the chapel is a very popular place for Horned Frog nuptials (I believe the next wedding date available is in February of 2014, but that was a few months ago that I checked).
Local Dining:
Dutch's Hamburgers. Named after the legendary head coach (if you haven't been reading), Dutch's is home to the world's best hamburger buns. They also have 1/2 price burgers and $2 premium drafts on Tuesday and $5 pitchers of Shiner on Thursday. Hard to beat.
Buffalo Bros -- I linked to their Facebook because the site is under maintenance. Dozens of TV's with every sports package available, homemade pizza, homemade wings with sauce imported from Buffalo, a full service bar, and drink specials every day? Makes sense, right? My favorite -- whiskey and wings Wednesdays. Boneless or traditional wings for 50 cents and all whiskey is $4.
Fuzzy's. Yes, this is the original Fuzzy's. The one before they sold out to the man and started opening them everywhere. Hard to miss a trip to TCU without some fish tacos and a signature purple margarita.
Joe T. Garcia’s A bit away from the stadium, but widely regarded as the best Mexican food in the city. A must-have in the city of Fort Worth.
Salsa Limon. A sketchy food truck run by guys who disappear to Miami all the time. After hitting the local bars, it's hard to beat these tacos, though.

Random Trivia
Girls, girls, girls: TCU has been ranked by several organizations, including The Onion, MyPlan, and College Prowler has having the hottest girls of any university. Anyone in disagreement may consult any Google results of “TCU Showgirls”.
David and Goliath: Other than Wake Forest, TCU is the smallest school in the BCS. It is also the smallest school to ever win a BCS game. Not everything is small at TCU, though. Next to UT (with 55,000 students), TCU has the largest endowment in the Big 12 ($1.4 billion).
With added exposure thanks to its athletic programs, the academic profile has increased significantly. With a 2012 acceptance rate of 37%, TCU is the most selective school in Texas behind Rice. Its business, nursing, and pre-med programs rank among some of the elite in the nation.
While many focus on the "C" in TCU, the university is actually mostly secular (meaning separate from religion). TCU has no religious requirements, other than for students to take one religious class (of their choosing) as part of the University Core Curriculum. This can be anything from The Bible to Scriptures of Islam to Religous Sects and Cults. TCU is the largest university affiliated with the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which still has an affiliation to the school through scholarships, programs, and members of the board. TCU is often jokingly referred to by students as “Texas Construction University” for the constant construction.
TCU was one of the first schools in the southwest to allow women and African-Americans. The university nearly folded because of people pulling funding because of these reasons.
TCU was the first major university to offer a Bachelor's Degree in ballet. The joke being -- TCU had ballet before it was legal to dance at Baylor. This is actually true. When dancing was finally allowed at Baylor, the president warned against anything "obscene or provocative. No pelvic gyrations, no excessive closeness, and no dirty dancing." Oh, by the way... This was in 1996.
What Is and What is to Come The 2013 season has a lot of potential for the Horned Frogs. The season opener against LSU will be a good measuring stick for a squad returning nine starts from the conference's best team defense, but they will be without star DE Devonte Fields due to a two-game suspension. More importantly, it will be a welcome-back for reinstated quarterback Casey Pachall. Coach Patterson is still mum on who the starting quarterback will be, but any and all speculation leads to Pachall taking the reigns back from Trevone Boykin. Pachall didn't throw at all during his stint in an alcohol rehab clinic, but looked sharp during spring practices. He has packed on all the weight he lost, and even beefed up a little bit (about 6'5", 230 pounds). He also took the majority of first-team reps during spring practice. Due to scheduling entering the Big 12, the Frogs will play at OSU for the second consecutive year, and an odd Thursday night game/away game in Lubbock against Texas Tech will be great tests for the Frogs. This year's schedule is much easier on the Frogs than last year, and after years of traveling the globe in different conferences, TCU plays eight of their 12 games in Texas and two in Oklahoma. This season will rise or fall based on the return of Casey Pachall, and if the team can stay away from off-the-field issues and injuries that plagued them last year. Consensus in Fort Worth media seems to be that the Frogs will improve on their 7-6 opening season in the Big 12 and go anywhere between 9-3 and 11-1 in the regular season. Sneaking out of Cowboys Stadium with a win over a young LSU team would be huge for the Frogs' momentum. Winning even a share of a Big 12 Championship would go a long way for a team looking to boost its goal of dominating the recruiting within Dallas-Fort Worth. Stats and Game Highlights from LSU vs. Alabama, 2007-2013
This week is #BamaHateWeek so let’s take a look at a statistical breakdown and highlights of the LSU v. Alabama games since Saban’s first year at Alabama (as that’s all Alabama fans remember these days). The link below will show you a stat breakdown of each game: Game-by-game stats with overall average There’s a couple of interesting things these numbers show: 1) Turnovers aren’t the biggest factor in this series, 2008 notwithstanding. The team with fewer turnovers has only won 50% of the games. 2) This game is all about running the ball. The team with the most rushing yards has won 7 of 8 games (87.5%). The only game that broke that trend was the 2008 Interception Festival of Incompetence put on by LSU. LSU outperformed Alabama in almost every aspect from a numbers perspective but Jarrett Lee threw 4 INTs, the most egregious being in overtime that cost LSU the game and preserved Alabama’s undefeated regular season. Alabama went on to lose to the Fightin’ Tebows in the SEC Championship game a few weeks later. After their dream season was ended by Urban and Tim, Alabama went on to play the Utah Utes in the Sugar Bowl, losing 17-31 because they were disappointed about not being the NCG and it totally, 100% was not because Utah was the better team that night and dominated the line of scrimmage. 3) LSU is penalized 152% more in terms of number of penalties and 119% in terms of penalty yards when playing Alabama since 2007. Against all other SEC opponents, LSU is penalized 7.8% and 14.1% more in terms of number of penalties and penalty yardage, respectively, over this same time span. Side note: this is one more reason we fucking hate you and are convinced the SEC office is in your pocket. The REC is real and is out to buy success. I don’t have the numbers of Alabama vs. other SEC teams because that would take forever but I’m willing to bet it’s similar, you cheating sons of bitches. 4) These games are usually close with Alabama averaging 6 more points per game and 3.86 more if we exclude the farce of the mulligan game, because why not. They didn’t deserve to be there and everyone but the Bammers knows it. cfb voted their 2011 “national championship” the worst one ever. In fact, they took the top two spots with 1941 coming in second. 5) When the turnovers happen, it’s usually LSU throwing INTs and Alabama fumbling the ball. Makes sense due to our tag team of Jefferswag/Lee for four seasons and the fact that Alabama is a bunch of pussies. Let’s also take the time to review some of the more memorable moments from each of the games: 2007: John Parker Wilson’s fumble that led to Jacob Hester’s go ahead TD. If LSU had lost this game, there was no way they would have made it to the NCG that year. Thanks, Bama! 2008: Apparently nobody wanted to post any one play’s highlights to youtube so here’s rnolan’s condensed game highlights. It’s 11 minutes long and showcases about 392 LSU INTs. Enjoy, bammers. 2009: A fine demonstration of what happens when you let an Alabama fan review Patrick Peterson’s interception. 2010: DeAngelo Peterson’ TE reverse on 4th down to help seal Alabama’s fate. This game also led to one of Les Miles’ greatest post game interviews. 2011, pt I: Eric Reid’s interception at the goal line that saved #1 LSU’s victory over #2 Alabama. You can clearly tell how upset Verne was about this whole debacle. He hides his crush on Alabama about as well as Gary hides his for Tebow. Bonus pic of crying Alabama frat boy and date! 2011, pt II: THERE WAS NO PART TWO. But if there was, Jordan Jefferson probably would’ve thrown the most retarded INT of all time. That one's for you, bobosaurs2. 2012: We all know what this one is. Tiger fans, I want you to watch this one in case you’ve forgotten that these are the worst motherfuckers on Earth. Treat the visiting fans well at the game this weekend but don’t forget that Alabama is Evil Incarnate. Channel that rage into constant, deafening noise so that Blake Sims’ fragile mind breaks and we ruin another team’s dreams while we continue to creep up the SEC West and poll standings. I expect this play to be the embodiment of Saturday’s game. Be loud, talk some shit, but don’t be an asshole. Don’t forget the Saban flyers, nataliieportman. 2013: JC Copeland’s fumble on Alabama’s 1 yard line, as well as other big plays...mainly by Alabama. No, I’m not going to post Mett getting sacked. Go fuck yourselves. This game has become one of the best games in the country every single season. It is an absolute war on the field…and in the stands these past two years. I highly encourage everyone to watch this game, or at least record it, because Death Valley is going to literally be shaking Saturday night in an unparalleled game atmosphere. If LSU has improved as much as we think they have, this one should be an epic nail biter. I ask all those who watch to don something purple and gold Saturday night and help LSU destroy that which must be destroyed--an elitist, over ranked, wretched amalgamation of scum and villainy fueled by nothing more than superiority and persecution complexes…and coach-to-player “loans” and free suits. Join us in what will be the sweetest schadenfreude of the season and watch as the Harbinger of Chaos works his magic. And, as always, STTDB. Edit: One more time, courtesy of lateatnight.
