Top 5 Breakout Rookies of 2018 (Opinion Piece)

Edit: I Did not include Rookies that were not consistently` at Larger events for 2018 they will be featured in an Upcoming piece Dedicated to the Future Stars of 2019

I should start by what i considered a Rookie. I defined a Rookie as a CSGO player who had yet to play a CSGO Major prior to 2018. Players who played in the Top 16 of a Major prior to 2018 were excluded from this list. Players were eligible for this list however if they only attended a Minor Or the Majors Main Qualifier.

#5 Tyloo's Bntet
HLTV Rating | Majors: 1.16 | Big Events 1.14 | LAN 1.22 | Online 1.26
LAN Titles: Starladder Invitational Chongqing
Finals: 5
Top 4’s: 8
Major Playoffs: None
Coming in at number 5 i have Bntet from Tyloo, Bntet established himself this year as a premier player within the Asian Scene and a dominate aim star & reliable IGL for the Tyloo squad. Bntet picked up the IGL mantel for Tyloo in the middle of 2018 to allow Xcurrate to focus on his AWP play style in order to help his team succeed further. Bntet had an HLTV rating of 1.16 at Majors and finishing with a 1.22 LAN rating at the end of 2018. Bntet was able to capture one LAN title this year with that being the Starladder Invitational Chongqing appearing in 5 Finals most of which being smaller LAN events location in Asian. Unfortunately Bntet was unable to advance to the Playoff stage of a Major this year but lead the Charge for Tyloo’s great improvements this year which is why he comes in at my number 5.

#4 HellRaisers ISSA
HLTV Rating | Majors: 1.14 | Big Events 1.10 | LAN 1.14 | Online 1.08
LAN Titles: Bets.net Masters, CIS Minor, Epic Center WildCard
Finals: 5
Top 4’s: 7
Major Playoffs: Faceit Major London
Sliding in at Number 4 is ISSA from Hellraisers. It was quite an impressive year from ISSA alongside being the first Jordan born player to both play & exit the Group stage of a Major. Finishing the year with a 1.14 Rating at Majors and a 1.14 Rating on LAN events in 2018. ISSA picked up a few titles to his name including the Bets Masters, CIS Minor & the Epi Center Wildcard. ISSA his team from Hellraisers was given the opportunity to fight for the change to attend Epi Center after Mousesports withdrew from the event forcing them to play against both Swole Patrol & Virtus.Pro for the final spot in the event. ISSA Appeared in 5 LAN finals & 7 Top 4 finishes over the Year. Was able to enter the Playoff Stage of the Faceit London Major. Finishing off ISSA Resume for 2018 is the DreamHack Tours MVP.

#3 HellRaisers Woxic
HLTV Rating | Majors: 1.16 | Big Events 1.14 | LAN 1.22 | Online 1.26
LAN Titles: Bets.net Masters, CIS Minor, Epic Center WildCard
Top 4’s: 7
Major Playoffs: Faceit Major London
Coming in to Number 3 on this list is Another Hellraisers player in Woxic. Like his teammate on this list Woxic had a very impressive year Woxic with Hellraisers results was able to hold a Major rating of 1.16 and a LAN Rating of 1.22 Like his teammate Woxic was able to Place first in the Bets Masters, CIS Minor & Epi Center Wildcard events and exit the group stage of the Faceit London Major. Unfortunately for Woxic he was plagued by VISA issues preventing him from attending some larger events like the ESL Pro League Season 7 LAN finals & Dreamhack Stockholm. Given his progress this year he quite easily fit on number 3 on my list.

#2 BIG Clans Smooya
HLTV Rating | Majors: 1.24 | Big Events 0.99 | LAN 1.14 | Online 1.23
LAN Titles: UK Spring 2018 Finals | Epsilon
Finals: 2 (ESL One Cologne 2018)
Top 4’s: 4
Major Playoffs: Faceit Major London
Rounding out the Top 2 is Smooya from Big Clan, this loudmouth UK player that has brought fresh air and the possibility of player made rivalries quickly back into the scene has made a splash and has quickly become a fan favorite with the now iconic Smooya chants at the Faceit London Major. Smooya’s 2018 started out in the Top UK team Epsilon. Smooya quickly caught the attention of Gob B’s Big CLAN where they picked up the UK Awper and quickly started to show they were not a team to take lightly. Smooya Finished 2018 with a Major Rating of 1.24 and a LAN Rating of 1.14. While Smooya was only able to lift one trophy this year in the UK Spring Finals he made a large impact in the 2018 Year as asserting himself as a Top Awper for the German Side. Making the Finals in ESL One Cologne alongside four top 4’s and a Playoff appearance in the Faceit London Major has him Finishing number 2 on my list.

#1 Team Liquid Twistzz
HLTV Rating | Majors: 1.16 | Big Events 1.14 | LAN 1.22 | Online 1.26
LAN Titles: cs_summit 2, SuperNova Malta
Finals: 7
Top 4s: 13
Major Playoffs: Faceit Major
Played Astralis in 5 Finals
ESL NY MVP
Finishing on the Top of my list with no Rookie at the same level whatsoever is Twistzz from Team Liquid. Twistzz & his Squad of North American brethren dominated at all the North American Scene at all parts of the year & helped the team be a team to be feared internationally . Twistzz attended both Majors of 2018 making the Top 4 in the Faceit London Major where they were knocked out by eventual winners Astralis. Twistzz finished with an Impressive Major Rating of 1.16 and a LAN rating of 1.22. Twistzz helped his team capture two Titles this year with the CS Summit 2 and the Supernova Malta Trophies. Appearing in 7 Finals in which 5 of those were against Astralis only bolsters his Resume as the best Rookie of 2018. Even if don't include the 13 Top 4 places Twist had with Liquid he would still finish this list in first place. Twistzz was able to pick up the MVP Trophy in ESL New York further adding to impressive 2018 season this future superstar plans continue into 2019 Twistzz will be a household name as a Top player in North America if hes not already. Twistzz was able to continuously produce these impressive achievements with Team Liquid even while fighting medical issues throughout the year and for these reasons are why Twistzz tops this impressive list.

TLDR;
#1 Team Liquid Twistzz
#2 BIG Clans Smooya
#3 HellRaisers Woxic
#4 HellRaisers ISSA
#5 Tyloo's Bntet
